Cdr Miranda Hawthorne

USS Excalibur Sim Log - 05.06.18

MISSION BRIEF: The team continues deeper into the temple ruins, following a low-frequency beacon apparently left behind by the Captain. They have entered a room with several exits, but have determined the path follows one of the two exits in the "upstairs" part of the large, atrium-like room.

Cptn Swain: BEGIN SIM

Cptn Swain: BEGIN SIM

Cptn Swain: BEGIN SIM

William Chocox: ::looks around the room as they approach the upper level::

Indaura Ryssan: :: Looks all around ::

Hunter Matheson: ::hoping the rebreather holds up cause it sure would be sad to die here::

Cptn Swain: Arden> ::Making his way up the stairs. He was still considering if this were the worst place Asher had dragged him or not, but he felt pretty sure the sewers of Kalon VII were worse.::

Ens. Irene Mincine: :: Irene is making sure that we don't get killed/infected with the Shades of Gray virus by dangerous plants. ::

Hunter Matheson: ::with Arden, checking things as they move on::

Maryse Dubois: ::Following the group.::

Hakran K'hal: :: examining his tricorder on the way up, while letting the Marine use the eyeball tests ::

Hunter Matheson: ::letting his HUD do the work::

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: ::With the interior air a bit less swampy, Miranda had her rebreather off so she could concentrate on scanning.:: The signal is getting stronger up here. ::Following the others up the stairs to the upper level.::

Hunter Matheson: ::and the RB shows green so he shuts it down::

Cptn Swain: ACTION> Whoever is on point can see there are two distinct exits, one to the left where the door is flanked on either side by fetid waterfalls and the other more or less ahead of them with a large, person sized orb in the middle of the walkway, a few meters in front of the door.

Hunter Matheson: ::holds up a fist, to Arden:: Weirdness, sir. Probably need a tric to check out that... thing.

William Chocox: Weirdness?

Hakran K'hal: :: steps up :: Indeed. :: scans the orb ::

Hunter Matheson: ::cho, as he continues to watch the orb:: Yes, sir.

Cptn Swain: < Khal give me a number 1-20 >

Ens. Irene Mincine: "I don't think purifier tablets would even work on those..." :: Points to the gross waterfalls. ::

Hakran K'hal: (( 2 ))

Cptn Swain: (( Excellent ))

William Chocox: This is not the weirdest thing we have run across.

Indaura Ryssan: What do you see?

Hakran K'hal: (( oh dear :: checks to see how many K'hal siblings he's got left :: ))

Cptn Swain: ACTION> The orb reacts to the tricorder scan and a small circle lifts from the top for a moment, generating a golden pulse that quickly travels outwards from the orb, knocking everyone back and onto the ground.

Maryse Dubois: ::Is on her butt.:: The hell?

Hakran K'hal: Oof! :: on his keister ::

Cptn Swain: Arden> ::Oofs::

Indaura Ryssan: :: Hits the ground hard :: Oh!

Hakran K'hal: I guess I won't do active scans again.

Hunter Matheson: ::knocked::

Hunter Matheson: ::says a little more than oof::

William Chocox: Can you please not do that again?

Ens. Irene Mincine: :: Hits the ground and rolls back to her feet thanks to her athletic training. :: "What the hell was that?"

Hakran K'hal: I was able to determine that it doesn't like being scanned, sirs.

Cptn Swain: (( That was not the worst thing that could have happened to you ))

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: ::Knocked over, she hit the wall with a thud.:: What in the world... ?

Maryse Dubois: ::Gets back up, dusting herself off.::

Cptn Swain: ACTION> After a delay, it sends out a second wave. Luckily you're all out of the energy pulse range.

Indaura Ryssan: Anyone get a reading on that pulse?

Hakran K'hal: :: notices the second pulse :: And it's thorough.

Cptn Swain: Arden> Perhaps we should go the other way?

Hunter Matheson: ::slowly stands, moving back a little farther:: HUD registers it as a security trigger.

Hakran K'hal: Unless it accepts a polite "may we please pass?" I'm not quite sure I feel comfortable trying to decipher its other tendencies.

Hunter Matheson: Makes me want to find out what's behind it, though. What it's protecting.

Ens. Irene Mincine: "It only got pissed when you scanned it, right?" :: Picks up a rock from the ground and attempts to toss it past the orb. ::

Hunter Matheson: ::K'hal:: Think it might let someone pass if that someone has no advanced tech?

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: It could just be some form of security for this place. ::She crossed her arms, watching to see what it would do to the rock.::

Hunter Matheson: Guess we'll find out.

Hunter Matheson: ::takes a knee just in case::

Hakran K'hal: :: appreciates Irene's curiosity, but would prefer not to be the Cait that curiosity kills, so bravely stands behind cardboard Tandy ::

Cptn Swain: ACTION> A third wave pulsates back, this time a bit stronger, pushing Hunter back.

Hunter Matheson: ::thwap:::

Hunter Matheson: ::THUD against the wall:::

Hakran K'hal: It doesn't take a doctorate for me to determine that we really should stop doing anything more with that.

Cptn Swain: Arden> ::Begins making his way over to the other exit:: It looks like someone's been this way recently.

Hunter Matheson: ::neck twists:::

Ens. Irene Mincine: :: Runs over to Hunter. :: "Ack! Sorry, sir! Are you okay?"

Cptn Swain: Arden> ::Holds up a ration bar wrapper::

Hunter Matheson: :::pulling away from the wall:: Think so, ma'am. Been worse.

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: Okay, so everyone leave the orb alone.

Hunter Matheson: ::snaps his neck back into place:: Thanks. I'm good.

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: Let's head the other way. ::Gesturing to where Arden found the wrapper.::

Maryse Dubois: ::Steps over to Arden, curious, she scans the wrapper for DNA.;; Just to see if we know who it might be.

Hakran K'hal: Gladly. :: heads over to Arden :: Federation slash Starfleet issue?

Cptn Swain: Arden> ::Nods:: Though I don't know if these things are still in circulation. Andorian Blood-Beetle Pudding?

Cptn Swain: Arden> ::makes a face::

Hakran K'hal: :: curls his ears :: Let's hope not.

Indaura Ryssan: :: Studies her tricorder ::

William Chocox: I'm sure someone could replicate them if they wanted to.

Hunter Matheson: :::he checks his gear before moving back to the group::

Hakran K'hal: But they are significantly better than bread crumbs to follow.

Ens. Irene Mincine: :: Goes back to the group :: "No Klingon entrees, though..."

Maryse Dubois: You wouldn't want replicated Klingon food anyways.

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: ACTION> Maryse's scan picks up traces of Swain's DNA.

Hakran K'hal: I think our situation is complicated enough without having to duck under batleths.

Maryse Dubois: ::Gets a beep.:: Well good news. It definitely belonged to our long lost Captain. But I can't say much for his taste in food.

William Chocox: Would an Andorian even eat that thing?

Ens. Irene Mincine: :: Shrugs. :: "I think that's why they're out of circulation."

Hunter Matheson: ::still orb shy::::Cho:: If you're hungry enough you'll eat anything, sir.

Cptn Swain: Arden> I never knew he liked that flavor. Hmm. Well moving on.

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: He may not have had a choice in the matter. ::She moved through the door to scan the room beyond.::

Maryse Dubois: ::Following.::

Hakran K'hal: :: makes a face at the fetid waterfalls as they pass through the door :: Roman engineering this isn't.

Hunter Matheson: ::steps quickly to the fore, concerned about the cdr taking point::

Cptn Swain: ACTION> The room beyond is more straight forward, at least in practice. It opens into a long hallway with only a single exit at the end.

Ens. Irene Mincine: :: Eyes up the long hallway. :: "Okay, now I don't have much tactical training, but this has got to be a trap. I've learned my lesson from the orb."

William Chocox: Well then.

Hunter Matheson: ::as he moves on and checks the area:: I don't suppose anyone can contact the ship it we need it.

Hakran K'hal: :: Irene :: No more rock tossing unless we're playing bocce ball then, Ensign?

Cptn Swain: >> Traps, me? >>

Cptn Swain: (( Hunter, give me a number 1-20 ))

Hunter Matheson: (7)

Ens. Irene Mincine: :: Nods. :: "Bocce ball wasn't physical enough for me, sir."

Cptn Swain: (( God, I love my job. ))

Maryse Dubois: ((::facepalm::

Hunter Matheson: (yeah, cause you know what my answer is gonna be anyway)

Hunter Matheson: (anytime, cap. anytime)

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: (( You're the dummy that keeps picking the same number. ))

Hunter Matheson: (copy that, ma'am. I am not a fan of dice)

Cptn Swain: ACTION> As Hunter takes a step forward, he hears a very audible click and then a hiss. The walls on the sides of the hallway in front and behind the team drop to reveal several laser beams that fire towards each other.

Cptn Swain: (( I mean, it’s more fair than me just deciding when you're going to walk into trouble, and what kind ))

Hunter Matheson: (riiight)

William Chocox: Damnit Matheson!

Hakran K'hal: Oookay, I guess that was the official "This is a trap" warning.

Hunter Matheson: HIT THE DECK

Indaura Ryssan: :: does so ::

Maryse Dubois: Well... ::Drops down, looking back.:: This became a little more interesting...

Ens. Irene Mincine: :: Drops immediately to the ground! :: "Well now what!"

Cptn Swain: << I mean if you don't like having a chance at not the worse things that could happen, I am certainly willing to no roll the dice and just ACTION away >>

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: ::She ducked below the lasers, hoping they weren't the moving kind.::

William Chocox: ::drops down::

Maryse Dubois: ((No no. keep rolling. lol ))

Hunter Matheson: (up to you)

Hakran K'hal: :: notices the beams are in front of and behind them, but not immediately next to them, so doesn't panic and tries to gather some info about them, passively ::

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: ::On her belly, she glanced behind them, then ahead.:: Someone throw something and see if they react. I want to make sure they're stationary.

Maryse Dubois: ::Finds a rock and throws it away from the group.::

Hakran K'hal: :: definitely hits the deck now before Justin "Irene" Verlander winds up for a pitch back there ::

Ens. Irene Mincine: "Respectfully request someone ELSE throws the ro--nevermind."

Cptn Swain: ACTION> As I said, I like my job. The lasers appear to be stationary but the rock is vaporized.

William Chocox: Can we crawl under them?

Hakran K'hal: You wanna try seeing if there are any vertically oriented ones up ahead, Will?

William Chocox: ::looks ahead of them:: I'm trying.

Hunter Matheson: Can anyone take a reading on the weapon and see if it can be countered with anything we have?

Maryse Dubois: Try shooting it with a phaser?

Ens. Irene Mincine: "Like what, throwing a rock *at* the laser?" :: Carefully scans the laser emitters with her tricorder. ::

Cptn Swain: ACTION> The emitters for the lasers appear to be unshielded and only lightly armored.

Hunter Matheson: ::swings his rifle:: With your permission, ma'am. ::Cdr::

Hakran K'hal: :: is still a bit tricorder shy at the moment ::

Hunter Matheson: ::rolls into position, taking aim, waiting for the order:::

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: For Pete's sake, fire at the thing already. ::Miranda aimed her phaser at one on the opposite wall and fired.:: Just don't cross the streams.

Hakran K'hal: :: covers his head ::

Hunter Matheson: ::squeeze:::

Cptn Swain: Arden> ::covers best he can::

Maryse Dubois: ::Covers her head.::

Hunter Matheson: Right acquired. Firing.

William Chocox: ::helps with the firing::

Indaura Ryssan: :: Squints and scans ::

Cptn Swain: ACTION> The emitters go poof and the laser dies out.

Maryse Dubois: ::Doesn't want to be the first one to get up.::

Hakran K'hal: :: peeks out from under his arms :: Okay, now how many meters of hallway did that buy us?

Cptn Swain: ACTION> The way is open.

William Chocox: Apparently all of it.

Ens. Irene Mincine: "The whole thing?" :: Slowly, carefully, gets up... ::

Hakran K'hal: Unless there are vertically oriented ones in the ceiling that we haven't stepped on their triggers yet. :: pause :: Damn, I thought I was the optimistic one in the family.

Hakran K'hal: :: sighs ::

Cptn Swain: Arden> I mean.

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: ::Getting to her feet, she dusted herself off.::

Cptn Swain: Arden> Let's uh, keep moving.

Maryse Dubois: ::Seeing others get up, she slowly gets up.::

Cptn Swain: << Hakran, give me a number 1-20 >>

Hakran K'hal: Ensign Irene, I gladly will let you do all the away teaming on all future missions.

Hakran K'hal: (( 16 ))

William Chocox: ::K'hal:: Please stop talking sir.

Hakran K'hal: If you're not prepared, you're toast. And we already almost got served with eggs and bacon once today.

Cptn Swain: ACTION> Ole Eagle Eye Kitty catches, for the briefest of moments, a distortion running along the side of the hallway, but it quickly vanishes without a trace.

Hakran K'hal: :: ears flatten, then he starts moving his head this way and that, first squinting, then opening his eyes really wide, then turning sideways ::

Hakran K'hal: :: harrumphs ::

Ens. Irene Mincine: "Yes, s--" :: Picks up her tricorder again when Hakran's attention turns. :: "--something over there?"

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: ::Pulling off her pack, she flung it down the hallway, sending it skidding over the floor plates to see if the weight would trigger anything further on.::

Hakran K'hal: I saw something, just for a moment.

Cptn Swain: ACTION> It does not trigger any more traps, for now.

Hakran K'hal: :: attention diverted to the tumbling pack :: And this is why engineers are handy, even if they're wearing red now.

Cptn Swain: Arden> ::Notes Hakran mention seeing something, but shrugs it off::

Hakran K'hal: :: shakes head :: Anyway, I guess we can move out again. At least until we get to the door, before having to make sure there isn't a guillotine in it.

Cptn Swain: (( I hadn't considered one of those. QWhat do you think this place is, Sens' Fortress? ))

Hakran K'hal: Or spikes that jut out at high speed from the frame, impaling unsuspecting passers through...

William Chocox: ((I never put anything past you.))

Ens. Irene Mincine: "I don't think we're in a holonovel of Ancient Earth..."

Hakran K'hal: :: trails off, coughs, mutters something about holorpg's ::

Maryse Dubois: ::Sighs:: And I thought you said you were the optimistic one?

William Chocox: I think he was being sarcastic.

Cptn Swain: (( 5 Minute warning ))

Hunter Matheson: ::moves next to K'hal:: What did it look like, sir? What you saw.

Hakran K'hal: I didn't think my nerdy adolescent pastime was going to become a mission parameter.

Cptn Swain: Arden> ::Moves towards the door and, yet another room.::

William Chocox: So many rooms!

Hakran K'hal: :: Hunter :: Almost like a heat mirage, but more distorted. But it was so quick.

Hunter Matheson: ::nods::

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: What did you see? ::Taking K'hal's sighting seriously. She moved carefully down the hall to retrieve her pack.::

Hunter Matheson: I saw one earlier. Seemed to hug the wall, but it could have been an illusion. The wall part, that is.

Ens. Irene Mincine: "You should try a Klingon calisthenics holoprogram. I recommend 'The Battle of Carbohydrates.'" :: Shrugs, follows the group to the next room. :: "I haven't seen anything like that so far."

Hunter Matheson: ::wonders why we keep going deeper into this place:::

Hakran K'hal: :: Irene :: Battle of Carbohydrates? :: imagines fructose and sucrose battling out to the death in all their molecular glory ::

Ens. Irene Mincine: "Well, you know, everything's a battle to Klingons..." :: Irene laughs. :: "Slay the fat! Kill the bloodwine belly!"

Cptn Swain: ACTION> The next room has a set of stairs leading downward below ground. The lights here are flickering more and more, and there's standing water on the floor and flowing down the stairs.

Hakran K'hal: :: chuckles :: Has to be more effective than some of the fad diets out of Betazed.

Cptn Swain: ...and...

Cdr Miranda Hawthorne: ::Picks up her pack, slinging it on, heading to the other doorway.::

Hunter Matheson: Commander... not a good idea..
