During an incident on the NX class Constitution in the 22nd Century, the original Luc Daren's (Sgt. Dec., MACO) genetic structure was altered. Further mutations in conception have caused the descendants to have mutated genetic structure from human norms. Increased height and weight capacity, stronger bone structure, and increased life span are some of the advantages. However, all descendants are born blind due to defective eyes. Daren IV is the first to have full artificial implants rather than visor or or technologies. Also, the brain structure is slightly altered, and the emotional impacts on the hypothalamus changes have caused significantly decreased emotional depth and a disrupted circadian cycle. The Daren's pain tolerance is also elevated, though Luc Daren II nearly bleed to death because he didn't realize he had been severely wounded. The skin pigmentation has also been altered, leaving the Darens with a coral shaded skin, with a slight luminescence in low light conditions. Other disadvantages of the mutations are susceptibility to viruses and other microbial infections, therefore all Darens are on constant immune deficiency treatments. Their sense of smell is also considerably diminished.

 

Considering that Luc Daren IV is a built like a tank, it was not much of a stretch for him to become interested in the more military aspects of Starfleet life. A well trained infantry soldier, Daren was asked to make the move to the IKC Qob-Lakota as he could stand being amongst Klingons, considering his steady emotional state, lack of olfactory distress, and his size. He has remained on the late shift until someone was required to fill the Chief Security position, which he accepted after one week's careful consideration.
