A new idea

:: The door closes behind him as Kas enters his quarter. He sees his pictures of his pet birds sitting in his cage, while he anticipates their arrival. He looks at his hands and thinks about how dirty he is from cleaning the probes after their return to Challenger. He looks again at his picture of his birds and thinks about the Dog the Challenger gave to the Klingons. The probes were so dirty, how could people OR pets survive for very long in air polluted with such radiation. ::

 

:: He’s got a few minutes for cleaning up in his quarters before returning to Engineering. He moves around to where he’s standing in front of the mirror above the sink. Splashing water into his face, he scrubs up with some soap. He rinses, then grabs a towel and dries off face. Looking intently in the mirror at himself, talking only to himself:: That’s it! Mirrors!
