RES Wingfall

“Lloann'na Watch”

It was a typical duty cycle on the oira of the Wingfall.

The Rihan frigate was usually tasked with supply runs, ferrying diplomatic attaches to this political conference or that member world, showing the Galae colors at some subject world and the like, or providing an escort for one of the larger warships who felt the need to look all important with an escort ship.

Today, the Wingfall patrolled the southern section of the Rihan border, and they would maintain this current duty posting for the next two moon cycles. Honestly though, these days no one was stupid enough to take an unauthorized excursion into the Rihan protectorate. Some officers would consider border patrol on a mere frigate a thankless posting – but na tr’Nanclus.

Daise'Enarrain Sorvask tr’Nanclus stood on the upper deck of the main oira, his flat top gun-metal gray hair complimenting his black and silver metallic tunic nicely. If he were the vain type, he would have checked his reflection in his highly polished black boots. Serving for well over forty years in the Galae fleet, the man exuded power, was comfortable with power, and knew how to handle himself with that power. He gave na quarter, and expected none.

His gravel voice carried within the oira confines. “Helm officer. Status?”

“Na change rekkhai. Our course is steady, and all systems show normal. The cloak is at full power, and on standby, and the daise engineer reports that the AQS is at full power as well.”

The lad’s response was clean, neat, and efficient, which pleased tr’Nanclus to no end. At one time, command had thought it acceptable to send the dregs of the Retor Academy to the Wingfall. Eventually, after the second junior officer had ‘accidentally’ been injured in a kaleh challenge, the quality of recruits had improved dramatically. It did help to have a bit of clout…and one or two favors owed, did it not?

“Excellent. Maintain our course.”

The lift doors opened, admitting tr’Nanclus’s executive officer to the upper command well. The commodore allowed a smile to show in greeting.

Astrix Talis t’Varis had come to the Wingfall ten years ago as an Erei'Riov, assigned as the new chief of security. She had been forty years of age, and quite ambitious. Na ambitious in the ‘pardon me, may I sink my kaleh blade into your jugular so I can claim your command?’ sense, more so an uppity type of ambitious. t’Varis had at the time, looked down upon a posting such as the frigate, especially after having served her first deep space assignment on a D'Deridex class ship.

Two separate instances of a back hand to the jaw (in private – he was na a complete b’Astard) had cured her of her predilections, and over the years, the two officers had developed a very comfortable working relationship.

"Daise'Erei'Riov t’Varis. Au have a report to make?” His hawk-like eyes took in the ISD that Astrix held in one well manicured hand.

The short yet athletic woman offered a subdued smile in greeting. “Ie Daise'Enarrain. In aur Enarrain's Chambers if au do na mind?”

“Fvadt. I am na going to like this, am I? The last time au officially requested we confer in the chambers was to inform me that my REF flag shuttle blew a disruptor coil. And then there was that other time when we had that rogue Kll'inghann ship to deal with. Now that was a menkha party.”

Her guarded smile turned amused. “Apologies rek khai, but you are correct; you will na like what I am about to impart.”

The deihu ships commander turned slightly and extended his arm outward, indicating that t’Varis precede him, and as she moved, she threw a glance at the helm officer. “Erein tr’Selt, you have the oira.” The lad saluted crisply in acknowledgement as the two senior officers walked by him.

Once the chambers, tr’Nanclus settled behind his polished desk, while t’Varis sat in one of the guest chairs facing the desk.

“Now, what is it that you need to show me Astrix?”

The woman gently slid the ISD across the smooth desktop toward the Daise’Enarrain. “That information was decoded from the Lloann'na news feeds. We downloaded as much as we could, and then the relay signal routed to another listening post.”

tr’Nanclus quickly skimmed the contents of the ISD, and swore under his breath; his angered gaze then went to the large display window behind the desk. “I hate this, I always have. Every time the Lloann’na Command loses one of their ships, the whole incident causes a cascade effect across the sectors.” He turned his attention back to her. “And as of yet, there is still no sign of this Agincourt?”

“Ie rek khai. The Agincourt is one of the newer exploratory warships of the Prometheus class type according to our research. To be honest? All of our security intelligence shows the ship to be quite the handful if engaged in battle. Yet, the vessel disappears with all hands while engaging enemy ships of unknown design and origin.”

“Have aur people make some…discreet inquiries regarding the latest Rihannsu intelligence. Perhaps we have some record regarding these unknown attackers...perhaps in a past encounter from another Galae ship’s recorded logs and such. I have a feeling the Lloann’na ship would not have engaged them without a good reason. I will also make some inquires to my contacts; perhaps they will be able to further expand on what we have found.”

“We do na report this rek khai?”

“Na. We honestly have na solid evidence other then the civilian news feeds. I would rather we explore and study all available options and information before contacting our superiors at Galae command.”

Astrix saluted crisply, and then left to carry out the orders. tr’Nanclus merely picked up the two circular meditation chimes from the small, ornate box that held them and began to work them through his left palm and fingers, using the sound and movement to focus. His gaze sought out the star that indicated the main Lloann’na sector. “Ah, Areinnye.”
