It is the entire room doing the Macarena during the Saturday night dance, but to the Star Wars tune. Many people are in costume (but not all), so you may have to witness the Imperial Macarena being danced by Storm Troopers, Browncoats, Buffy fanatics, Trek nerds and even some weird one-offs like Robin Hood ::notes the collective shudder by the folks who witnessed Robin Hood from about 7 years ago::

 

 

OH DEAR LORD, I DO remember that, ::sighs:: Gee thanks A9 that one I could have done without.

Update to the actor guest roster:

 

Adam Baldwin (Jayne of Firefly and numerous other appearances) pulled out due to professional commitments.

Jewel Saite (sp?) (Kaylee of Firefly and now on Atlantis) is now appearing.

Leah Cairns (currently Margaret "Racetrack" Edmonson of BSG re-imagined) also hopped on board to appear.

 

Racetrack is a great secondary character on BSG who has come a long way exposure wise. She is one of the shows Raptor pilots, which rocks because the Raptor utility shuttles are my favorite vehicles on the show (and of course, we all know it's the Raptor pilots who clean up after the hot shot Viper jocks and need to go fetch 'em when they blow up their fighter jet). So, guess we know which autograph and actor guest appearance I'll be interested in checking out!

If anyone in the NJ/NYC area is interested in carpooling/convoying down to Hunt Valley, let me know via PM so we can arrange a rendezvous location (After all, prior planning prevents poor performance). I plan on going down late Thursday night. And leaving Sunday some time after the con's over (and probably after dinner).

I'll be driving down Thursday morning to arrive mid-afternoon and leaving Sunday or Monday - haven't decided yet.

 

As for getting together - how about a Friday night meet-and-greet in the lobby of the Marriott (it's a small lobby) at about 5pm? We can do a Saturday one as well for those who will be arriving later than that.

 

If there are quite a few arriving on Thursday we can do one that evening as well. I'll be hanging around with an STSF tag on.

I *plan* on driving down mid to late morning Friday, hoping to get there say about mid afternoon (I'm about two hours away) depending on traffic. If there is a 5 PM Meet and Greet on Friday, I will shoot for that one first, with a possible Saturday one as backup. And I'll probably be leaving at some point on Sunday.

 

Otherwise, I'll just go into Kitteh stalk mode and hunt people down. :-D

Thought I wasn't going to be able to make this, for reasons of money and transportation, but I figure one day's admission won't kill me too much, and my mother (who has just won the awesomeness competition for the day) has agreed to drive me down in the early AM and pick me up in the late PM. So...I'll be there Saturday, fighting for my at-door registration! ::dances::

I'm not a member of STSF, but I was a longtime member and Host of SFOL back in the good old days, and remember quite a few of the names I see here. Currently I am a member of FSF (where the last remnants of SFOL now reside)and we too have a little traditional get together at Shore Leave in Maryland. We have about 10 people coming down this year, including a number of former SFOLers. In recent years we have met up with some of the folks from FKA and a couple of people from STSF (yes I am referring to YOU KBear!) as well, and had a great time. We even have plenty of pictures to prove it! Anyway, I'd like to extend an invitation to all of the STSF members that are coming down, to meet up and hang out if you like.

 

We're going to be staying at the Hilton Embassy Suites in Hunt Valley, about half of our group will be arriving Thursday, and the rest on Friday.

 

So if you guys are interested in hanging out with some fellow simmers, just let me know!

Okay, so that's FSF, STSF, FKA, (ABC, XYZ :-P) and I know of at least one local meeting chapter from the PA/Philly area (USS Sovereign - I have no idea if they are still active) that has gone to the MD East con in recent years, and whatever other on line or real life groups come to the MD East con. Diverse fan base, indeed.
