For the younger members of the crowd, let me explain our comments about age/adult. We bill this gathering as being an "Adult" one because we will not be responsible for anyone else but ourselves.

Anyone underage should not be out among adults by themselves unless they are related to those adults.

We will spend at least part of our weekend in places that sell alchohol and may have strict age limits.

We may spend part of our time doing things that cost a certain amount of money/admission to enjoy, so we each need our own source of funds.

Would you guys have fun showing up with one of your parents to this? That's up to you.

There, I hope that clarifies it. I am not trying to scare anyone away, but we do need to be clear on the expectations for any national gathering. If you have any other questions, please feel free to PM me.

In talking with NDak tonight, an idea came up which might be an interesting alternative. How about a cruise? While the price tags of some can be a tad hefty, others are reasonable, and include lodging, food, and some entertainment, making them only slightly more costly than paying for such things separately. There are plenty of shipboard activities to keep people busy, shore excursions, and a pool. (Sorry, Huff -- although cruise lines are adding more and more things you wouldn't expect to find on a boat, I haven't yet heard of any with a tube river.)

I don't yet have a concrete suggestion for a line, detination, or date, but I'm throwing the idea into the ether for your consideration.

Funny you should mention that, cause I almost linked the 2006 Cruise Trek on the boards. Last year was a Cruise of the Baltic's and tours in Europe and Russia. This year, it's actually a cruise from Montreal to Boston, spending a week in various ports in Nova Scotia, Bar Harbor - Maine, Boston-Massacussetts. (This should make our Canaidan contingent happy, eh?)

Information can be found at

Cruise Trek

A friend of mine did the 1996 Carribean Cruise and said she had a blast.

It's fairly reasonable for a weeklong cruise including

Premier Accommodations

· Meals & Entertainment

· T-Shirt & Program Book

· Bon voyage Cocktail Party

· Q&A Sessions with Actors

· Photo Session with Actors

· Breakfast with Guests/Actors

· Actor’s Entertainment Hour

· Continuous Movies

· Custom Cruise Trek Games

· Autographed Celebrity Pics

· Kid's Programs

Here are last years prices, 2005 prices have not been listed yet:

Category Double Triple

Inside $1049TS $ 949TS

Better Inside $1099

Outside $1199TS, PC $1049TS

Better Outside $1299PC

Suite & Verandah $2599

The 3rd and/or 4th passenger(s) occupying the same cabin are $699 each and are not discountable. Trek Share Program has “TS” rates above. TS and PC (Physically Challenged) are available in the category noted above.

Pre & Post Cruise Hotel $199.00 (including taxes) per night - add $20.00 for 3rd/4th

Bonvoyage Banquet Dinner $ 69.00 per person (including taxes & gratuities)

Actually, there was a relatively famous Star Trek-themed cruise about a year ago with a lot of the TOS actors.

Ohh "2006: Summer in New England".... yippieskippies... lol. Ick. Caribbean, yes, Hawaii, yes... Boston? I say we wait and see what the 2007 cruise destination is. (I dunno, I also have some basic fear about being confined in one space with hundereds of Star Trek nerds. You can get a cab away from conventions, but where do you go on a boat other than overboard? Oh I can just see me climbing over the railing and some delusional nerd thinking he's going to save me like Leonardo deCaprio...)

Hm, I'm looking at Orlando, but I'm having trouble finding hotels with tube rivers (other than Disney). There's some wicked cool water parks, but I can't seem to find an easy listing of hotels with rivers. (See, I just want to roll out of my room and walk to my tube, none of this having to get in a car and wait in an admission line, lol). Anyone feel like web searching?

Tubular!!

Tubes,Tubes, Tubes!!! But the Frosty Rum and Mango drinks were the bomb!!

I'm content with our happy happy place. Going through the pictures, had me dying last night.

Besides.... Kresh knows where to finds us there. He owes us a few drinks if I recall. Then again, he practically owned that one corner of the river. How many times did he dunk you under that waterfall Huff?

Yeah, and the staff at Quarks almost wouldn't give it to me! I had to pretend I was sharing it with Moose, while Blu wasn't even questioned. :P

I was in Boston this past summer for an accounting conference. Went to the original Cheers bar (The official name is Shark & Rose or something like that.), Legal Seafood, and a couple other places, and OD'd on clam chowder. However, I will NEVER go to Boston in the summer again. The weather was 75 degrees and people were complaining it was too hot!

I find it funny that our esteemed SLers went to Baltimore for so many years...I mean Baltimore? Baltimore isn't exactly what I'd consider to be a tropical paradise. :P How is Chicago or Orlando or any other place mentioned here any worse? :)

there's a reason we don't go to baltimore any more (and it was actually hunt's valley, MD).. and there's a reason we DO go to vegas. we already know what a non-fun city is like (driving around at midnight, looking for a wal-mart to have some fun .. i mean puh-LEAZE), so we're unwilling to go back to that!

Hey there,

I've suggested this one before...::glances at a few people::

In light of New Orleans, and not to make light of their situation....I'm thinking

Florida/Gulf coast during hurricane season isn't the best idea.

Besides...

Vegas = > 1% chance of rain/ 99% chance of sun

Florida = Tons of sun, but those occasional afternoon rain showers..

would soak our sunning by the pool...

This is your cruise director's weather report....

<Oh...and as a side note.....we've had people show up in the past, and after an hour or two at poolside, ask...."so, when are we going to do something?" " and "This is like going on vacation with my parents." Sunning is doing something..and..well, most of us "are" parents! LOL

In talking with NDak tonight, an idea came up which might be an interesting alternative. How about a cruise?

Ironically, while everyone has been posting the "idea" of a cruise, for about the past month I've been putting together a power point presentation supporting the idea of a cruise, including collecting data, prices, sail dates, events, ect. ect.

Until I finish the presentation, I don't want to spoil everything, but a cruise is one of the better ideas out there for several reasons.

1. A cruise does not have to be expensive. Although people are talking about $1,000 cruises here, they can go down to as low as $250 to $500 which is more than reasonable.

2. Cruises are great for large groups. You have the people who want to lay on the deck, the people who want to gamble, and the people who want to swim. A cruise has it all, and no one can get lost as it is a boat and there is no where you can go.

3. I'm still looking into the details... but a passport may/may not be required, pending on the cruise. There are many weekend cruises to "nowhere" which would be perfect.

I have been on cruises before and they are wonderful. Most trips are not relaxing, as you are still connected through computers, wireless internet, cell phones... the advantage of a cruise is your cell doesn't work, you have no internet, and in order to get any sort of comp/phone usage you have to spend money, so, you are officially cut off. You are literally forced to leave your other life behind and relax.

When I finish collecting data I'll post my full results here on the forum.

Gotta say, that's the price range I was thinking about! (well, more in the $400-600 range.) As much as I love you folks, I don't love ya enough to shell out a grand for one weekend. Now, a grand for the week-long one Blu mentioned is pretty reasonable. Besides which, most cruises are only that expensive if you care about where your room is. Seeing as I expect from past experience to spend a maximum of 8 hours in it, most of that utterly dead to the world, my room can be below the waterline, no problem.
