Curious

Greetings,

I am so completely new at this, I do not know where to start. I am reading through various posts,  but am curious as to how I can become more involved. It seems like a lot of fun and is very interesting. Any willing advice would be excellent, and thank you.

Okay...this is gonna take a while...

How to sim in STSF in 10 easy steps.

1) Check out the "How to sim", or "Help" sections.

2) Check the schedule to find an academy you can attend regularly.(ones in the Holodeck are usually academies.)

3)Be sure to experiment with different species and posts in the academies.

4)Graduate!

5) Join an advanced sim!

(dont worry about steps 4 and 5, focus on 1,2 and 3.)]

If you need anything else I can help. Also, check with Garnoopy or LoAmi. They know more about STSF than me!

Welcome!

First and foremost, STSF.net is a lot of fun.

Second of all, to figure out how to play, and how to get more involved, click on Help in the menu. You'll find information on how to play, rules, and other general info there. That should help you get on your way to simming.

As stated in the Help section, to join a sim and play in one, just go to the Academy at the specified Academy sim time, and the GM's who are hosting the game will give you information on how to get involved in that sim.

:: smiles :: It's good to have you, and I can say, I know that feeling of newness. If you have any questions what so ever, you can post them to the forum or PM someone. Everyone is willing to help out someone who is new.

Once again, welcome!

Yes, Ensign Smith got it right!

Read through the "How to Sim" materials, find a convenient Academy, set up an account with STARTREK.COM and use it to go into the Holodeck chat room (I'd aim for 5-10 minutes prior to the start of the Acad).  Ask the GMs running the sim for a post, then relax and enjoy the sim.  No one is looking for the perfect role-player when you start, so don't worry about "doing it right."  Also, remember to ask the GMs questions as they come up, that's why they're there!

WELCOME!!

Welcome to STSF!

All the advice that's been given above pretty much covers it.  As Ensign Smith said, the best way to start out is to read the basics in the help/getting started section (there's a link to it from the www.stsf.net main page), find an academy by the schedule (there's a link to that right under the STSF logo at the top of this page) and then jump into the academy (at the appropriate time, hit the "Chat Rooms" button on this page and click on "Chat Lobby," then find the link to the "Holodeck").  If you have any questions once you get there, you can PM (private message) the GM's (game masters), or pretty much any other player...

If you have any other before-game startup questions, just post on these boards, and you'll probably get an answer pretty quickly.  Also, you can check out previous posts in the "Questions and Comments" and "STSF Academy" boards.

Simming is a lot of fun, and STSF is a great community (word carefully chosen!) to do it in!

The bigest things you can do id read the how to sim, and attend the same sim, so you can get good advice. It might seam like a lot to read, but not as much as you get if you join the RES Talon. ::hopes his Enarrain(Captain) doesnt read this.:: And most people wound yy'a (kill) you except dac.

Actually, I would go to Dac's academies, as long as they dont involve away missions to underwater colonies!

:: chuckles ::

Pheonix, you'll find that here, on the STSF.net forum board, that it's a running joke that the GM's ( Game Masters ) like to kill off Cadets who play in Academy sims at the very ending of the sim. No reason to worry, everyone here has died in an Academy sim at least twice, I myself have been killed off more times than I can count! And yet, I still come back time and time again... :: grins ::

Make sure to enjoy yourself, and have fun. After all, thats why we are all here!

I'm reading it Erein....remember...I have people watching.  ::evil grin::

Seriously though Phoenix, for those new to the simming, as well as those of you that have been around for a little bit...Never be afraid to ask for help, it's how you learn.  Any of the hosts and players are more than happy to drop you a reply here on the boards when we get a chance.  And if you're not really comfortable just dropping in to play right away, come on by and watch a sim or two. I often suggest to cadets, that they drop by an academy and an advanced room, taking care to not disrupt it, and watch out the interaction amongst the players flows as people become more familiar with the system and each other.

But, remember....never ask to graduate, that only gets you sucked out an airlock!  LOL.

Sheesh.... it's always "sucked out the airlock". How come we never have people killed by a meteor shower, or send them on a shuttle 10 minutes into a sim, and have them die 5 minutes later? But, no. It has always got to be the airlock.

::shruggs, mumbling:: Why does it always look like a scene from Moonraker...... :)
