A Whole New World

"A Whole New World"

Log entry 04: 08 September 2154

The shrill beeping of Sergio's alarm clock loudy awoke him from his drunken slumber. Sergio groaned and rolled out of bed, and trudged over to his dresser. He then popped two of the hang over pills Eduardo gave him yesterday downing it with water. It was 0900 and the transport to pick him up was due to arrive at 1000. One hour until the transport shuttle would pick him up and take him to the Challenger. Sergio set the alarm clock 30 minutes earlier, to have time to eat his breakfast and get ready. He spent twenty minutes brushing his teeth, shaving and showering, ten minutes to dress up and fix his hair. The automated kitchen system was now at work making Sergio his breakfast.

French style crépes, a croissant and a glass of cappachino was the last meal he was going to enjoy on Earth. No sooner had Sergio finished his meal, the doorbell anounced the arrival of a new visitor. Sergio walked over and looked at the small LCD panel at his kitchen wall. It was the two Starfleet crewmen who were supposed to pick him up. Wow, was it 10:00 already? Sergio thought to himself. Yup. It most certainly was. Sergio thought after looking at a clock on his wall. Sergio opened the door, and helped the crewmen load his belongings onto the shuttle.

With expert timing on their part, the House keeping service arrived soon after. Sergio hands one of the maids the keys, and looks at his home and city one last time. Once Sergio is settled in, the transport lifts off to take Sergio to his new home. Monte Carlo gets smaller and smaller as Sergio leans forward to get one last look of his city. "Well, goodbye Monte Carlo" he mutters before leaning back into his seat. To pass the time, Sergio takes out his portable LG Holo-Vision unit and watches some improvised in-flight holo-movies. About half way into the second movie, Sergio feels the transport slow down its engines.

"Hey, why are we slowing down?" Sergio asked. "We approaching Mars, and the Challenger." the pilot said. "We should be docking in a few minutes, but do you want to take a look at the Challenger first?" the pilot asked. Sergio nodded. "Sure" As the transport got closer to the Challenger, the pilot made a slow bank along side the ship so Sergio could get a good look. It was unlike anything Sergio ever seen in his life. Sitting there in the drycock of the shipyard the new NX-Class vessel was a truly awe inspiring sight. It was a floating icon of just what the human spirit can achieve when it unites together for a worthwhile cause. From the confines of the tiny transport unit, the Challenger looked immense.

"Beautiful, isn't she?" the pilot asked breaking the silence. "Yes, truly" replied Sergio. "Hard to believe it was built in only three months. Wow, I feel lucky to call such a nice ship my home" The transport slowly cruises alongside the Challenger, giving Giovanni a chance to look at every inch of the Challenger's exterior. The transport vessel docks with the Challenger and the co-pilot opens the hatch leading into the ship. Like a hotel bell-boy, the co-pilot wheels Sergio's luggage on a hover cart and takes it over to his quarters. Sergio steps out of the transport vessel and for the first time steps into the Challenger.

Immediately, he is intercepted by two huge security guards who look as if they should be playing runningbacks for the Washnigton Red Skins. "Identification, please" one of them say. Immediately, Sergio produces his ID. "Lt. Giovanni, Chief Science Officer?" he asks. Sergio nods. "Okay. You're quarters are located at S-6, on E-Deck. Take this map of the ship and follow the arrows" the guard says handing him a map containing the ship's schematics on a PADD. (Or it's 22nd century equivilent). Inside the Challenger, Sergio can already see that the ship is already bustling with activity.

There are officers out and bout on the decks, testing stuff out, or just like him on their way to different parts of the ship. Sergio waited a few minutes for the lift to arrive, and went down to his quarters on E-Deck. Finding S-6 a few minutes later, Sergio enters what will serve as his new home. It was certainly better than he expected, and pretty big as well. well at least in Starfleet standards. Plus, he wouldn't even have to share it with anybody either.

One of the perks of being a Department Chief and Senior Officer. Inside, he finds the chest containing his uniform and data block with more information. It was just his size, Sergio thinks, and closes the chest back up again. Sergio smiles and lets Mittens out his carrier. Mittens meows and snuggles against Sergio's legs. He sets up a place for him to stay, putting the kitten's litterbox, cat bed and other things in the corner of the room..

"You must be hungry, eh little buddy?" Sergio asks. Mittens only meows in response. "I'll take that as a 'yes'" Sergio replies and pours some Cat Chow and water into Mittens' dishes. Sergio strokes the little cat and leaves him to his late lunch. Sergio leaves Mittens in peace and heads back to the lift. This time he heads back up to the bridge. As Chief Science Officer, Sergio is going to spending alot of time on the bridge. It's only logical he should familiarise himself with the bridge as well.

Only a few officers are here with him. "Bonjourno!" Sergio says politely, as he waves to the Officer sitting at the Tactical console to the right, who sounds like he's either British or Scottish. Sergio couldn't really tell accents apart that much. Anyways, Sergio walks past the Commications station, and sits down on the leather seat of his Science Station. He is flanked by several flat screen monitors and keyboards with every bit of Scientific information stored in it's harddrive. Sergio leans back in his chair and looks out at the viewscreen. He definately could get used to this. He thinks to himself.
