  1. I say go for the big battleships like the Excalibur Class that's been created on many 3D art sites.

    Hey there,

Only problem I have here is the fact, again, Starfleet has never had "battleships." I mean, in the post-Dominion War era I could see it being justified. Heck, what is the Sovereign Class really listed as...an "Enhanced Deterance Explorer." I don't know...::shrugs::

Yep, I'll agree there. There were no battleships, persay.

There were battle-cruisers per the statement of Christopher Lloyd. And that's in Canon-Trek.

Not quite battleship power, but a battle capable starship.

  2. This message is for those of you who have requested 3D renderings for their ship(s).

I must apologize for the delay. RL events have been keeping me from producing the art you requested such as the baptism of my child, replacing floors in a few rooms and working a second job a couple nights a week.

Be assured I will get the art done for you sooner than later.

Just for the record, will those who've requested an image or to of their ship, please post a reply to this topic with your name, ship name and registry.

    Thanks.

  3. I was just thinking about something.

Last year in 'that other forum' I started accessing the message boards and readin them because in my whole simming career there I never really had posted nor read them. In an effort on becoming more involved with the USS Ranger sim to make it better than it already was, I figured the boards would be a good source of communication with others since I didn't have their screen names, nor knew most people outside of the Ranger. I also wanted to become more aware of my surroundings and goings-on in the forum. Well, take away the obvius that was occurring at the time and the boards were dirt inactive. I stayed out of what was going on because A) I had come into it in the middle of everything and had no place and ;) I didn't want to make any enemies. Choice words I had in mind at the time would probably have gotten me kicked right off the online service altogether. But, that's for another drunken stupor conversation.

But, since I only watched and never played that message board game, I never really got into boards in general.

As I started to learn a 3D art program and finding 3D models of starships, I came across two sites that helped me out a lot and I became active on their message boards and conversed occassionally. As time crept along, I found myself joiing up with numerous boards including this one most recently. And, with inevitable events one the way in 'other' places, I needed to prepare for the worst. I needed to begin setting up WebRanger so that the USS Ranger sim would have a home and not left without any money in Wakita. Plus, people on a Y! Group wanted to have a place to shoot the bull and I needed something for my friends.

I did some looking around, asked questions, blah blah and so on. I found myself creating a board for my own purposes.

And then, it kinda hits me. What' so cool about message boards? I mean, why is it I love them so much. All they are is a communicatin forum. Why am I always excited when I see a new mail that appears like, "[email protected] Reply to Topic Notification"?

Is it the functionality? The appearance? The fact I can have an avatar? I really don't know.

But, it makes me wonder. And, I put this out to all of you: What do you find fascinating about message boards? Why do they seem to act as a chocolate substitute?

  4. Hyperdrive's right on target with what my idea is.

Don't let the rank have anything to do with the number of posts. You set the rank as a Special Rank, insert a rank graphic that coincides with the rank title and leave the Minimum # of Posts field blank.

Then, it won't keep track of posts and you won't have the problem of being called a Cadet by the board system when you're actually a Commander. And I have a full set of premade rank insignia of multiple organizations and races and collar colors. I'd be more than happy to supply them.

I agree with Hyperdrive's idea about multiple character/sim-types and display their higher ranks.

Thanks, Hyper. You're right on the money with my idea.

Randy, I know this could work. I'd set it up myself if I had the capability and show you what I'm taking about.

As a quick example, go over to my board, WebRanger: Digital Dementia at http://hawkeindustries.com/phpBB2 and look at one of my posts. You'll see my rank and a 3rd Class Warrant Officer rank insignia (4 black pips). I set it up so that it's not post related.

I'm sure we can set this kind of thing up on I.B. since most open source board systems are simiar in functionality.

Are you still open to something like this? I'd be more than happy to do it myself if you'd like to keep the time free for other things. Just give the word......"Warp Speed."
