  1. There are a few AOL based groups, Commlink interviewed the leaders of several last month and the links to their groups can be found here. http://www.commlinkonline.org/ Mob, update your signature. We got the 'D' blowed up.
  2. There are a couple ways I could do this... I can manually assign a title/graphic for someone.... Or we could have a title based off the total number of posts made by a person (Ex: 0-20 posts = Cadet.... 21-50 = Ensign.... 51-100 = LtJg... 101-200 = Lt... 201-400 = LtCdr... 401-1000 = Cdr... 1001-2000 = Capt... 2001-4000 = Rear Adm, etc) But there are a couple of potential problems here that make me skeptical for using this: Irrevelent posting - I don't want people posting just to rack up a high post count to move to the next rank or whatever. Confusing - For newer people visiting the boards... to see someone with a title of "Rear Admiral" or "Commander" or whatever... they might be more confused about who is a GM or whatever. I'm not saying this is a bad idea... but it's just something I've held off on doing so far. If the rest of ya want this, I can easily set it up. Hi, Randy. Well, how about this. In the text part of the rank, you could put the member's position affiliation with STSF in brackets. For example: Lieutenant Commander [Non-GM] or... Captain [GM] Doing this would mean you'd have to have more than one set of ranks, kinda. But, since GMs are usually Commanders and up, you'd only have a small amount of ranks to do two sets of. It would probably take about a half hour + or - 10 minutes to set up. Would this help solve the confusion issue?
  3. Hi there. I just thought of something and I'm curious. How were your sims able to join up with paramount and what did you have to do to get in? Was the forum already in place but just empty? Or did you have to petition it with Paramount? I recognize all the sims here and was wondering how the transfer process is done. Don't mind my nosiness here. It's a genetic defect.
  4. I like all the additions that have been made thus far to the boards. I have a question though. Would it be possible to include board ranks? I just opened up a board on webranger, http://hawkeindustries.com/phpBB2 and it allows the use of ranks. The ranks are primarily based on the number of posts to indicate how involved someone is on the board. I've discovered you can set special ranks that don't have to be affected by postings. I've configured the ranks in such a way that will indicated a person's Starfleet Rank and show a rank insignia graphic I obtained from rpg-insignias.co.uk. I think a Starfleet rank included as well as the use of avatars would be very nice looking. Can you update this board to use Ranks in such a way? If so, I'd highly recommend it. Thanks. Yvon
  5. Well, ideally, I'd like a program I can load into my web space that runs in the same area like a messge board can.
  6. Hey, who's this Hawke character? ::smirk:: I hope he's giving my name a good reputation.
  7. I've simmed since January 3, 1993. I have some kind of gift remembering dates. I'm just wierd like that.
  8. Hi, everyone. I wanted to show everyone a 3D art picture I made using 3D Studio MAX and ask what you all thought. It's of my sim's ship we just switched to about a month and a half ago. I also wanted to let you guys know ahead of time that if you like it and wanted one for your ship, I can do it when I get some time. I don't intend a spam attack here; just trying to anticipate requests to have ships done. I'm usually open and don't mind requests. It doesn't take a real long time to do. To view the pic, go to http://members.aol.com/LtCmdrHawke/ranger-e_01.jpg
  9. I had sent some images, I believe. But, Adnrew's been out of thelook for months now. All of us at Scifi-Meshes and M-CGI thing he's dead or missing (jk). But, he has been away a while.
  10. Funny you should suggest that. I'm getting Ikonboard to install on WebRanger and I'm going to control the avatars for everyone. I'll certainly let people use images they want. But, I'm going to watermark the USS Ranger model with the WebRanger symbol inside the image along with the person's rank. It'll require a larger image. But, I think I can swing it ok. But, ship avatars would are a great idea. Put the name of the ship you like simming on the best as an avatar and it would help people know what ship you're from. It would be a problem for people who sim on multiple ships. But, something could be arranged to include all the ships they're part of.
  11. Huh? Not sure what you mean. :D
  12. Hmm. Let's see. I can cook a ship pretty well. I haven't tried modelling SIFs, so that wouldn't help. And as far as the duck tape goes, I won't ruin a good ship with that stuff. Sorry. You'll have to put some against your screen to get that effect. But, I can cook up a Galaxy for you. How bad do you want it? Light moderate or heavy?
  13. I'll contribute anything I happen to have some spare time to produce. :D
  14. Tell me which ship is which class and I'll throw one together of each except for the Steamrunner (I have to find a model of them) and Ambassador Classes along with the registry and I can throw a few images together for you.
  15. You won't believe this. But, the Nebula Class is one model I don't have a copy of. I'll check the sites I get meshes from and will get back to you.
  16. My vote ranking would go... First Contact - Because of the same points you all have made and the fact that I worked Lieutenant Hawk into my family line IC. Nemesis - More starship activity. That's about all and the fact that the Romulans were used. Insurrection - For the comedic aspect. Generations - Would have been better suited as a TV movie or series finale if All Good THings wasn't filmed.
  17. I can go along with that. But, you would think they could do better than a redressed Constitution Class TOS-Movie bridge module.
  18. I really like the TOS movie uniforms. Look at the intricate details into the Rank insignia designed, the tunics, jackets, etc. That design show's they put a lot of time and effort into making a very unique uniform. It sure beats tossing on pants and a shirt. The TNG series uniforms went back to that old approach but with a twist. I imagine that since the movie productions had the bigger budgets, they could elaborate on more detail. But, when they went a nd did the TNG series, they wanted to focus more on the characters and simplified the uniforms and insignias so we could better recognize them. When I'm simming, I image the current style (The Ranger being TNG movie based). But, to vote on what design I like the best overall, I'm all over the TOS movie design. It just looks like a more believable uniform than all the others.
  19. Greetings STSF and distinguished board members. For those of you who may rememebr me, I'm Yvon Hawke from ships of other origins. Pratt! Good to see ya, buddy! Mob, didn't know you hung around here. ::wink:: Just wanted to stop by and say hi to everyone! I've taken the liberty of checking out the homes of ships I've seen in the past. This is a very cozy home for all of you and the web site is tremendous! And, I love this message board program. I use similar ones from phpbb.com on the web sites www.scifi-meshes.com and www.m-cgi.com. These board programs are exellently put together and I must say, this one's configured very nicely. Keep up the good work. Must go. But, I'll stick my nose in from time to time to say hi. See ya!
  20. Thanks Much, Admiral. It's deeply appreciated!
