  3. BluRox and I would like to congratulate Ensign Michael, who graduated the STSF Academy on Monday, Jan 21 at 10PM.
  4. BluRox and I would like to congratulate Tabor Nansk for graduating in the Monday 10PM Academy!
  5. Congratulations to Ensign Quintessa, the newest graduate of the Monday academy.
  6. Cmdr Lo'Ami continues his insane frenzy, firing at everything Dac-related, including her prized shoe collection. Marx, a security team, Sam, and Daena go to the captain's quarters to corner the commander. Daena finds that the subspace distortions occurred in that room. With the help of Dr Westler's approval, Cmdr Alces takes control of Arcadia's command codes and restores internal sensors and transporters. When Lo'Ami is cornered outside a weapons locker/shoe closet, he is contained in a forcefield with Daena. They are both put to sleep with anesthezine gas and taken to sickbay. Thoros makes sure the commander doesn't wake up by stunning him by phaser. When they arrive in sickbay, Swan treats Lo'Ami again with another hypo to suppress his mysterious brain-wave, and Daena for exposure to anesthezine. Eagle begins to guide Arcadia out of the void. Sensors begin to scan objects. Operations officer Doug T attempts external communication, eventually receiving a broken up signal from Starbase 133 as they approach the void's edge. Just then, the bridge crew realizes that Captain Dacotah is nowhere to be found, and must decide whether to go back into the void, or to exit, possibly leaving her somewhere unknown forever. 7. Arcadia's standoff with the Romulans continues. Cmdr Lo'Ami gives the Romulans a chance to leave and open negotiations diplomatically. It is rejected, with the Romulans giving Arcadia a one hour ultimatum to withdraw. Cmdr Alces' theory that the Romulans just wanted to test if Marx is dead is tested; he urges that Arcadia take the chance to leave. Marine shuttles are on standby. Lo'Ami and Daena go to stellar cartography to find if there is anything in the sector of space that the Romulans are claiming that is of strategic importance. A small explosion with no apparent cause takes place in stellar cartography. The Romulans use their transporters to rescue Daena and beam her to the bridge. They claim that Lo'Ami's pattern couldn't be separated from the explosion. Everyone's shields go up. ChatLog.070919to070920.txt
  8. Capt Dacotah and Cmdr Lo'Ami meet with the Romulans and the "ambassador" in the observation lounge. Dac tries to verify that the Romulan-"ambassador" really is the ambassador they were looking for. The bridge confirms multiple ways that Arcadia is in Federation space, raising the question of why the Romulans are pulling this border dispute ruse in the first place. Meanwhile, Lt. Marx decides it is time to leave sickbay, against doctors orders, going as far as to attempt escape by transporter... just in time to actually be discharged by a Dr. Tynte. Cmdr Alces tries to make sure that if the Romulans were actually aiming for Lt Marx (whom they had a long-time bounty on his head), they would think he was dead. Hence, Marx ended up getting put "under the wraps" in the brig. Dr Porter informs Dac in the observation lounge that Marx is dead. Dac dismisses the Romulans from the observation lounge, without examining the ambassador, and the Romulans are returned to their ship. Ens Stevens in engineering is puzzled by the intricate design of the android. Marine shuttles wait on standby. ChatLog.070912to070913.txt
  9. She tracked comets like the best of 'em, so, we promoted her. Congratulations, Ensign!
  10. Arcadia makes its way through the shortcut, while helm officer Sema'J battles his medical condition from the helm chair. Dr Porter stays on the bridge monitoring Sam's condition and wondering why he was allowed back at the helm in the first place. Arcadia catches up to the small ship, and sends a security team of two. They find what looks like the ambassador, his assistant and pilot bloodied on the ground. The redshirt hears a loud, high pitched noise, inaudible to Thoros. Thoros approaches the "ambassador," who turns out to be another exploding android. The security team is beamed to sickbay. Arcadia's new captain's yacht (piloted by Lt Col Quest) arrives at Arcadia's last known position to rendezvous, but finds that Arcadia went into the plasma storm debris field. She follows Arcadia into the field. ChatLog.070815to16.txt
  11. Welcome aboard! It was good to meet you in the academy. Hope to see you back soon.
  12. He may have had the iron in his blood about to be eaten by metal eating microbes, but he graduated anyway. Congratulations!
  13. This is the kind of question you might want to ask your academy GMs in private message after a sim, instead of on the public forum.
  14. One way to handle something like that is to use OOC (out of character) text or PMs to the people who are working with you to say: << just kidding >> Otherwise, once people start talking about it seriously, it could end up with a ridiculous situation going on. Misunderstandings happen all the time in sims. There is no tone of voice to catch on to. And, to make it worse, the English language can be ambiguous.
  15. Also, you might be interested in coming to an academy, watching and sending private messages to the hosts with questions. Being lost trying to follow a first sim is not an unusual experience. But, once you get the hang of it, it becomes second nature.
  16. Mission Briefing: The USS Medusa, on it's way to Risa for its first Shoreleave in months, has recieved a distress call from the Marcos Island Resort, just as they put into orbit. Marcos Island is an extremely isolated island in Risa's southern hemisphere, known for its private beaches and beautiful rainforest lagoons. == ROSTER == Command: Commanding Officer (CO) ----- STSF BluRox Executive Officer (XO) ----- STSF LoAmi Bridge Crew: Security: Chief Security Officer (CSEC) - Dumbass Engineering: Chief Engineering Officer (CENG) -- cdt.doug.t Science: Chief Science Officer (CSCI) --- Aaron_Westler Medical: Chief Medical Officer (CMO) --- will_marx ChatLog.061023.txt
  17. Congratulations!
  18. Mozilla is an all-in-one application (browser, email/newsreader, address book, etc.). Firefox is a standalone web browser, and Thunderbird is a standalone email client. Firefox has a much cleaner interface and is faster and more extensible than the browser in the suite. The Mozilla suite (aka Seamonkey) is no longer being actively developed. Firefox is continuing to improve. Both are based on the same original codebase and use the same rendering engine technology (Gecko). They are free software/open-source projects led by the Mozilla Foundation. Official Mozilla Foundation builds of Firefox are therefore known as "Mozilla Firefox." Unofficial builds with source code modifications don't carry the Mozilla name because of trademark issues.
  19. Mission Briefing: The USS Medusa has dispatched a shuttle to pick up the Captain and First officer at a conference held on Starbase 344. The conference topic of You and Stellar Matter was quite popular, and eveyrone was ready to return to the ship and try out the new theories at the next nebula encountered. == ROSTER == Command: Commanding Officer (CO) ----- STSF BluRox Executive Officer (XO) ----- STSF LoAmi Bridge Crew: Helm/Ops Manager (HOPS) ----- Joy Security: Engineering: Chief Engineering Officer (CENG) -- Dielle Science: Chief Science Officer (CSCI) --- curbro.48 ChatLog.060717.txt
  20. By the way, you can find out who is hosting what academies and when they are on the schedule page.
  21. Long, character-driven plots may be harder to get into, but they can also be quite rewarding. Long plots allow development of detail and resolution to a level that you don't see with shorter plots. When a new player first comes into a sim, they sometimes get dropped directly into the middle of a storyline. This is where department chiefs can make a big difference. They can direct a new player into having his/her own small part of a much larger plot, and bring in the details and backstory at a pace that's reasonable for a new player. Logs can also help a new player a lot, especially those that contain some plot summary. Sim chatlogs can also give an idea of plot, but, they're quite a bit more difficult to keep up with than a log.
  22. Arcadia also has Marines, although I'm not sure what their status is as an actual department for new players.
  23. In the category of "best log by a GM": Congratulations go to Cmdr. Jami Farrington of USS Manticore for the log Nede Prime Directive and to Col. C.E. Harper of USS Agincourt for Before and After. Each received 10 of the 32 votes cast. In the category "best log by a non-GM player": The winner is Black Widow, by Erein Sar'vek t'Jhiin of RES Talon with 11 votes of 43 votes cast (nearly 25%!). Coming in second was Mary's Last Will and Testament (USS Manticore), with 7 votes, and third What happens on Risa ... stays on Risa (USS Reaent), a joint log by eagle and Kawalas. In the category "Best writing style in a single player log": The winner is Col C.E. Harper's (USS Agincourt) Before and After, with a slim margin of victory over Cpt Huff's (USS Hood) What would a cockroach do? and Erein Sar'Vek's (RES Talon) Black Widow. A total of 44 votes were cast. In "best writing style in a joint log," the winner is An Unexpected Solution by Nicholas LePage and D.J. McKinny (Sky Harbor Aegis), with 21 of 27 votes. In the foreign logs category: The winner is Erein Sar'Vek's (RES Talon) Black Widow (14 votes) followed closely by Erei'Riov N'Dak's Power: Temptation, Corruption, Destruction (12 votes). 30 votes cast. In the category of best use of technology or technobabble: The winner is Proximity Alert by Lt. Admiran (USS Excalibur), with 9 of 26 votes. A close second was Mid. Contagion's (USS Agincourt) . . . And I Will Do No Harm, with 7 votes. In the special category, "Best attempt to find a loophole in the competition rules," Dumbass (Red Star Nightclub) won for Fall of the Champ. The final joke is on him, as he also lost 12 times over. All winners may now pat themselves on the back.
  24. Polls for the log competition are now closed. Thanks to everyone who submitted logs and who voted. The official results will be up shortly.
  25. One more day to vote in the log competition! If you haven't voted already, get your votes in while you still can!
