  1. Thats a shame...but since we have our own chat rooms (ST.com has been 'upgrading' their for how long now? hehe) why not just switch to a provider that actually serves our needs, namely allowing us to record chatlogs in an efficient manner.
  2. Thats good to know Moose. My only question is...if hosts are not extracting logs for every sim, why not? Now of course Im bias because I believe chat logs are what make up a sims real documented history...but it is also my opinion that hosts should be required to log chats and submit those to a database, public or private to their crew. And if its too difficult, maybe the chatroom needs to be changed to make this easier on the hosts. I can just imagine all the history being lost if you are not saving these precious logs.
  3. Actually, if your private messages are being logged by GMs..thats an incredible breach of privacy and I'm personally concerned that Ive never heard of it before. Now of course your chat room is your chat room...but there are situations where players may be using your room during a sim and having a private conversation, and the very idea that the GM, Webby, or anyone can have access to it is offensive. There needs to be a clear statement on the access page that NO privacy exists in the chatroom, period. Even if the GMs don't bother to look at it, if they have access to it then no privacy exists. It has nothing to do with safety, or preventing 'illicit' content...it has to do with GMs, who are just ordinary people like all the players, having access to private conversations. Its wrong and unethical. If you record your PMs in any way, make sure everyone knows it. People's private messages are none of your business, period. PS: I may have misinterpreted what was said...but I'd be curious to know if this is true or not. To answer Huffs question, I personally have used chatlogs to review a previous sim and I feel they are the essense to a sims history.
  4. That would have been a good 'nemesis'. I thought the clone idea was kinda lame.
  5. I loved B&B when they were writers...just coming up with unusual stories for the show amongst the 'normality'. Then everything became so weird...I dunno. I didnt like the DS9 never-ending-story, the singular plot that lasted 4 seasons, nor did I like Enterprise's 3-season voyage in the expanse. Id rather not have a movie, having not been very excited about the last ones. Wait 10 years, then I'll be pumped. They're just milking the franchise to death.
  6. Nova Class, hands down...I think its just a pretty little ship. Too bad they made it so tiny and weak ;)
  7. I dont watch enough TV to be annoyed by any commercial, let alone a cell phone one thats just making fun of all the holidays and combining them into one ridiculous one.
  8. The vacuum tubes must have been loose. Try a different punchcard.
  9. Making up stuff works :P Nothing like curing some brain disease or ridding your crew of an infectious organism with your trusty alphawaveguide clockinator.
  10. Vixis and Korlak...Korvak? I dunno his SN is Gov Kovax or something :P Korlag...hmm. Vixis and Virago is the same person :D For a bonus point they weren't current-incarnation GMs, they were SFOL America Online hosts, who for a period had the Capt/Cdr prefixes and later changed to OGF.
  11. Yeah but now i own the shorter version DVD :P And I have to buy a new one now? I hate it when companies pull stunts like this! Anyway...yes the RTK was long and just watching it alone at the end I feel "geez when is this thing going to be over"...but if you watch all 3 movies in succession (have lots of popcorn ready) you really feel like the ending brings closure to all the characters that you need.
  12. Wait I'm confused...the RTK has been extended? It's a longer movie now?
  13. I'll just guess Star Trek Sim Group, because its an answer that hasnt been guessed yet and theres no way for me to know without having been involved in the forming of STSF or know someone who was forming it...LOL I call for a new trivia master, hehe.
  14. Good job, Fred...most don't remember it anymore.
  15. Well I'd give it a shot but both possible answers have already been given so it would be impossible for me to win either way
  16. I certainly respect your opinion and your right to disagree. I think if people did do some research on the subject they would understand what I'm talking about, but I can't expect people to take time out of their lives to really do serious research. So I understand your opinion and we may just have to disagree and move on. Consider this, however. When looking at other cultures who were relatively isolated and their growth and resource-consumption outweighed the ability for the population to survive, they died (well, they moved on to another region). Put more simply, if you're on a small patch of land with 50 trees, and you use 1 tree a year for 100 years, and trees only grow back every 2 years, you run out of trees. Factor in the complexities of our various resources, our planet's ability to renew them at different rates depending on region, etc (and our newfound ability to import massive amounts of resources from other regions), and our exponentially-growing consumption...even someone without any background in this field should see a problem. There is one interesting phenomena when an environment becomes no longer able to support its population...the population itself never notices. It happens gradually, over generations...so back to our tree example, I may have known that we had lots of trees to build huts in my day, but my great grandson will look around and think "we dont have many trees? sure we have enough, since I also use this stacked mud to make my hut walls"...does that make any sense? Successive generations adapt to the lack of surplus resources, dimishing the ability to recognize a rapid fall in ecological sustainability within-generations.
  17. Well Im guessing those knobs and gauges are for tuning the computer rather than everyday use of it...just a guess. But heck they said no one would be able to afford one. Maybe they meant "it will be inexpensive, but only 5% of the people will afford one, and it will be easy to use, but only those with degrees in computer engineering will be able to understand it" hehe...why the heck couldnt they have been wrong about flying cars, too?
  18. Maybe A9 could give us some more info about this computer? It looks like it was supposed to interface through that keyboard there, and the actual data output might have been through that roll of paper going through it? I dont know what the monitor might have served (if any, its a safe bet they weren't thinking of GUI)...its in an awfully strange location.
  19. Personally, I'm sure this teacher was just trying to bring a little perspective to her students on the blatant over-consumption of industrial societies, IE America and Europe. The test you see is 'based' on a real scientific study...it is meant to emulate it (using generalized correlations), not replicate it exactly. I'm not exactly sure what you are trying to argue. The test isn't meant to be purely scientific and accurate, and you're criticizing it for being unscientific! It's an online quiz...good grief  But...if you don't think humans overconsume, and you think our population growth is just fine, and you are ignoring the message that this website is trying to send...well, thats just a shame :P
  20. Considering you first posted this back in June, I think its taken you far too long just to get rid of a few nosehairs Mr Dumbass
  21. Fact is, at our current population level...our humble little planet could only support everyone at a bread and water level (supposing all are equal). The 0% for 1 planet is not unrealistic...its simply emphasizing that our planets self-renewing resources cannot support a human population of our size. Do a little more research into this topic, you'll find some interesting information. Humans are dangerously overpopulated, and growing exponentially. Do some searches on species growth curves and environmental reproduction limitations. You'll find that we humans are reproducing at a rate similar to one self-destructive animal: the locust. And anyone interested in agriculture should know what the life cycle of a locust is like  PS: Really do some research more than a simple google search...I have a step ahead since I've been studying this kind of thing for about a year, but otherwise I suggest keeping the assumptive critiques of a scientific study (which you are basing on by looking at a brief Internet quiz that "emulates" the actual study) to a minimum, hehe. Don't expect a 2 minute quiz to accurately represent the complexities of environmental sustainability. And if you scoff and say that there is no basis for living at such a basic level for our entire population, tell that to the Rapa Nui :P
  22. Just a little background on this quiz :P This is a legitimate scientific survey, but you are getting the watered down internet 1-minute version  The actual quiz is extremely long and to truly take it takes lengthy research and recording of your daily activities at home. This is merely an approximation. But it is pretty accurate.
  23. I bet it crashes less than 98
  24. Ah rats I knew that one but was too late to answer
