  1. .... I read that article twice and I still don't get it. ***SPOILER THOUGHT*** I bet "evil smarmy angsty" Kirk gets wiped out by the end of the film by a more upstanding Kirk like ShatnerKirk after the time line or whatever is restored.
  2. MISSION BRIEF: We will be moving on as discussed in that log to the site of the largest Soltan attack to date (barring Earth, of course) Tervan Four. Hopefully there we will find some... ::mysteriously:: ...interesting... things. Our data gathering and investigation continues at Tervan and we'll pick up just slightly out of the Tervan system, then. 081119_Agincourt_Chat_Log.doc
  3. 11.19.08 Agincourt Mission Update: TBS: Not Announced MISSION BRIEF: We will be moving on as discussed in that log to the site of the largest Soltan attack to date (barring Earth, of course) Tervan Four. Hopefully there we will find some... ::mysteriously:: ...interesting... things. Our data gathering and investigation continues at Tervan and we'll pick up just slightly out of the Tervan system, then. - The Agincourt is on approach to the newest Soltan data gathering site, Tervan Four; an Away Team will be beaming down to the planetary surface. - Away Team members: Karrigan and T’Lak from Engineering, Salir Julio from Sciences, Security and Marine officers for protective escort purposes, and Colonel Harper will be leading the away team. The landing party is concerned with locating and processing any data that can be used tactical or otherwise to further our knowledge of the Federations newest foe. - Shipboard: Commander JoNs and the remaining officers and crew will be taking the Agincourt off for some sector recon work in an attempt to trace the approach vector that the Soltans used to approach Tervan. Note from the Colonel:Next week we'll actually get the AT on the ground and do some serious digging.
  4. No children were harmed during the rant! :) I just go bat you-know-what when the canon stuff/argument/this is how they should do it is brought up. Conversely, it drives me out of my ever loving mind and yet other people totally get into it. I'm all for a good discussion about Trek, I just don't understand the whole nit picky thing, and who cares! ::go to the zen place and lay off the caffiene. Hamina w00t w00t::
  5. Happy late B-Day Mister Moose! Enjoy!
  6. The antique car in "A Piece" probably had a different (and alien, regardless if the Gangstas got the specs from that book) steering/clutch configuration then the 300 year old sports car - and Kirk was older in the TOS episode, so he could have forgot a thing here and there about stick shift since driving the race car. Then again, maybe that trailer sports car had some updated modifications? Heck, Kirk went airborne and flew out of the car when the vehicle spun out - it sure looked like he didn't know what he was doing just like the gangster car. Just my canon "argument" speculation. :-P With all the movies and TV shows ..... it's just such a large franchise, and I just don't see the logic of everything all the Trek incarnations put forward with their various adventures falling into place all orderly and all the time. Why doesn't anyone complain about First Contact, with the Borg ship going back in time, or any other time travel (we have plenty of them!) snafus throughout the movies and TV shows - you can't tell me those episodes and plots didn't mess with the "precious canon". I mean, if we do want to go that route - then I consider TOS canon. TNG, DS9, VOY, Enterprise, and the TNG movies are not canon because they all came after the Original Series and therefore messed with what was orginally put forward. Doesn't make much sense does it? I just want to have fun when I go and see the new film.
  7. Mister Images! Sir! Thank you! I'll have to defer to a runner up; over the weekend I went MIA with home PC issues and I'd rather not download/upload pics using work computers. ;-)
  8. The Muppet Gang finally decides to full on mobilize and take out the Sesame Street crew; Big Bird'll never know what hit him. This throw down has been coming for years.
  9. Well, the Original Series did use a lot of duct tape and tinfoil and plastic styrofoam rocks; I'd say that's keeping it classic with some duct tape on the console! :-D Hey Daryus! Nice to hear from you!
  10. I really don't know how this works, whether this is truly how Chris "Captain Kirk" Pine feels about the scenes or whether he was told to comment like this for the sake of PR. I assume it's for the sake of PR and getting the word out. Getting "sexed" up for a new generation that really isn't used to seeing Star Trek? I don't think so. Guys, we won't be seeing anything new. First off, censorship has changed dramatically over the years, and every other movie you see (and TV for that matter) has full on frontal nudity and sexual acts going on. So, really, if we do have crazed sex maniacs (Doctor McCoy better get some romantically boo yah screen time with that one cute nurse, that's all I have to say) running around on the new Enterprise, they really aren't doing anything new with the full on exposed steamy love scenes. I certainly won't be surprised, will you? Second, before we go into "it hurts the integrity of the Original Trek" - the Original Trek has already been there and done this sexual appeal stuff. Oh sure, we didn't see any full on nudity etc - the censors wouldnt leave it on the air, so we had a camera pan shot in "Bread and Circuses" go over to a red torch light to emphasize a romantic interlude between Kirk and a Slave Girl (who had practically nothing on) ::embraces her deep nerdly trivia self:: But, Kirk was stripping off his shirt every other episode, the female crewmembers wore mini skirts up to their necks, female guest stars had that see through dress and gossamer fabric thing going on, or in some cases an outfit that was barely there. This was considered pretty racy for the times, am I right? And the part about "the striptease will be famous?" .... what about that three breasted cat woman that was dancing on the pool table in 1989's Star Trek 5? That is sorta a striptease, she hardly had anything on other then her tabby stripes...and she had the three breasty things! I'm sure the new movie will ramp it up, but still we've been there and done that again. ::shrugs:: ..... I guess I just don't get the relevance of this PR article, what with the history of the TOS, what we did see with the see through or short leggy cosume designs and Kirks libido, and the current modern films and what they consider romance. TOS Kirk has already been pouncing the woman/alien leader woman/anything that moves and has a heartbeat before, the women were gorgeous, the costumes sexy, etc? Again, been there done that, the new film will just modernize it all with the current modern sci fi trends. Right?
  11. Happy B-Day Mister Eagle; have 54 more of 'em!
  12. Hi T'Kreen and welcome to STSF. This is a wicked cool site to RPG sim on. T'Kreen sounds like an okay Vulcan name to me; really, everyone here on STSF has all kinds of names, so it's totally up to you what you want to be called. Playing a Vulcan is one option, and a good one. But you really don't have to worry about this for right now (as Sam explained a few posts back). All academy cadets start out human, just to keep things simple. Once you graduate from the academy chat sims, and pick your first advanced game and then get posted on that, that's when you have the freedom to start playing your Vulcan character and get some sort of Bio together and all that jazz. A good Vulcan age? It's always been my understanding (TNGs "Unification" episode I think had Sarek near the 200 year old mark) that a vulcan can live to be well over 100 years of age, possibly 200. I'd say a Vulcan Fleeter Officer could be anywhere from fresh out of the academy (21 or 22) straight up to 150 years old. I'd think that the ages 150 to 200 would/could be a retirement age for the pointy ears, or at least they'd go into diplomacy or a teaching position after serving within the Starfleet. That's just my Vulcan age opinion though. ;-)
  13. He's your Dad too!? He met Mother during that one night at Mos Eisely! Vader sure gets around. And I agree with Ba'alyo on this as well; I like that freedom as well, to introduce new character development in the Bio based on what has happened during the sim adventures to my character and any resulting log writing. I've had quite a few things added to Bios just because something totally surprised me during the chat plots.
  14. Well, for the character dev I agree with the Man in Britian and Laarell - that's up to the Player and reading and writing your own character logs tends to help with that. Just enjoy playing on a sim and see where the character and the adventures takes you. But for your Biography TKAR, it usually goes something like this: General Information: Name: Age: Species: Birthplace: Height: Weight: Hair Color: Eye Color: Personal Background: (Family Life and background, any other family in the Starfleet, personality quirks, do they get along with others, do they have a temper, allergies, what did they major in at the Fleet Academy) Starfleet Career: (Other fictional postings besides the sim you are joining, if you want details. If a character is very young, then don't have a huge career section. If a character is in their 50's, then they are going to have more professional background) This is a basic biography, but it's the best way to go for someone just starting out on one of the sims; if someone tries to map out their entire character backstory in the Bio, that's more trouble then it's worth. Too much isn't necessarily a good thing. And, these characters aren't X-Men, so energy shooting out of your eyes is probably not a good idea. :-D
  15. Sci Fi action. This is a .... bad thing? The whole point of a trailer is to bring in an audience, so typically they go for the Boom factor. The other Trek films also had sci-fi Boom action (Enterprise A getting destroyed, Chekov running from the 20th century MPs, the Borg boarding the Enterprise in First Contact) that coincided with the plots (again, some of the Trek movie plots are better then others), with the exception of The Motion Picture that went more for the sweeping sci fi slow epic types - like 2001 A Space Odyssey? If there was no action, everyone would be saying "that trailer looks boring". Hey, at least we won't have to deal with chest bursting aliens.
  16. 11.16.08 Excalibur Mission Update: TBS: One Hour MISSION BRIEF: The Excalibur is on approach to the Miramo Archives. The planet itself is mostly in ancient ruins. The archive itself, a massively sprawling complex with thousands of terebytes of information stored digitally along with original records dating back before the founding of the Dominion. In sickbay, Patterson and Doug are recovering. Security has a few remaining prisoners that Corizon has to decide what to do with. We also took aboard some of the ruined fighters and a data core from one of the raiders. - Medical has quite a few patients recovering emotionally as well as physically thanks to the Blood Cult soldiers who boarded the ship - The Executive Officer discussed the discovery of the “Spider Mole” (a robotic infiltrator that had attached itself deep in a crawlway) with the Chief of Engineering Admiran and the new Engineering Provisional Officer Asyle (who discovered the little bugger). The Mole enabled the Cult Raiders to have a tactical advantage during the firefight. - The Bridge crew received clearance to enter into orbit above Miriamano; Second Officer Commander Laarell handled the bridge shift. - Captain Corizon visited the medical bay to get his broken jaw looked at and offer some comfort to Doctor Patterson on her loss. - Security maintains a few of the surviving Cult soldiers in the brig; the warriors are being questioned, and Lieutenants Victria and Garrison continue to watch them like hawks. I think Vic wants to bite ‘em again. Captains Note: Next week we’ll continue the uplink and have a look around

  18. I had visited the local comics/magazine shop (embrace the deep inner nerd), and the owner and a couple of the regulars had me check out the trailer via the internet on a computer at the front check out area; very cool. Seriously, I did like the trailer. And the general consensus of those of us present was that it looked awesome. **SPOILER** (Don't read any further if you don't want to know) The race car at the beginning? Yeah, I thought it was a James Bond thing at first. :-P
  19. What breed is your pick for White House Obama Puppy? Forget about global issues or the economy. We have serious business to poll here - the House Puppy. MSN polled popular and unpopular White House Puppy names that have been submitted. "Abrahound Lincoln" was my personal favorite. I went with the Boxer; IMO, I think this is the general up and coming breed as America's choice of pet.
  20. I couldn't agree more. And, I'm not biased or nuthin'. Nah. Now getting back to the smelly dog beasts - along the same lines of Will's Border Collie, any one have any input on Australia Sheep/Herd Dogs? At least, I'm assuming the breed I'm looking for is a herd dog. There is an Austrialian type dog feaured in the Tom Berenger film "Last of the Dogmen" (good movie btw), and I just love it. They have kind of a blue-ish tint to them? Just curious.
  21. Mission Brief: When we left off, we were getting repairs done on the Alpha section. Now we'll be heading back out to -- at long last -- finish our survey of former Soltan attack sites, in hopes of developing an early-warning system. 081112_Agincourt_Chat_Log.txt
  22. 11.12.08 Agincourt Mission Update: TBS: 6 Hours (travel time to Vorana Six) Mission Brief: When we left off, we were getting repairs done on the Alpha section. Now we'll be heading back out to -- at long last -- finish our survey of former Soltan attack sites, in hopes of developing an early-warning system. - The Beta/Gamma Sections re-connected with the now repaired Alpha section; the only repairs remaining are interior cosmetic repairs for Deck Two, and the Engineering dept. continues to work on this. - Chief Medical Officer Kara Aroya went on the New CMO Bi-Annual Physicals Reign of Terror; Engineering Lieutenant (Senior Grade) Saf Murray was the first victim. Patient. I mean patient. Commander JoNs assisted with the Murray herding after getting the okay from Lt. Commander Kairi. I haz XO command level transporter codes to transport wayward engineers. - Lieutenant Commander Condacin eventually dragged her sorry self to the bridge after sleeping off the hooch; Colonel Harper then attempted to convince the hung over Xenexian Sciences Chief that getting into a complete uniform and a medicinal hypo would be a good idea. - Resident Energy Being Shadow was thrown off kilter - adding to the earlier complications of being caught in the initial Deck 2 explosion - by the re-connection of the Alpha section. - Next sim, the Agincourt will again be in orbit over Vorana Six (search on the boards for any and all Vorana references) to begin the search for any more Soltan data or clues that may have been left behind from the first time the Soltan descended on the planetary lab. Note: Engineering Officer Karrigan received a Service Stripe.
  23. So, we have "Other" Breeds leading with 8 votes. The Boxer, Shepherd, Retriever are tied at 1, and Pit Bull, Mutt, and Husky are all hanging in with 2 votes. Now, the thing with the Pit Bull is this would be a controversial breed, what with the reputation as a fighting and attack dog. I *really* don't think the President elect would dare bring a puppy with that sort of rep into the White House (unless he wanted to send a bold and aggressive "message" and commit political suicide at the same time). As Commander Farrington and Captain Corizon mentioned - the Classic Mutt might be the breed to go for. No better dog is out there then the Classic Mutt. :-)
  24. Oh, the Historical Documents will contain the historical specifications on the 1701, and the Enterprise will be commanded by Captain Peter Quincy Taggart. By Grapthars Hammer and The Sons of Warbann!
  25. And we all know she's dead on correct with the Hallmark thing. I've been a Trek fan since I was in my early teens; the original cast hooked me with ST 5 when it was out in theaters (yes yes, I know Trek 5 is on the low end of popular, but I still love the film. It was my Conversion Factor. w00t!). I'd have to say (if Doctor Matthews allows a youngster into the category :-D) TOS is also "My" Trek, and I agree with the general "Go for it! Take a crack at the franchise!" sentiments expressed here in the thread and started by her and Shane.
