  1. "Chemical Emotions" Ensign Cameryn Azri, MD Stardate 0407.19 ___________________________ "What you are doing is screwing things up inside my head." ~ Maroon 5 Cameryn's body writhed beneath her covers. Little beads of perspiration seemed to envelop her body. Her mind was a whirl; hundreds of voices and emotions swirling around and causing a loud, distorted buzz that seemed to grow louder and louder. It was enough to wake her up with a start, sitting up straight in bed and heaving hard breaths. Her hand immediately went to her head, as it ached horribly and seem no less louder than it did in her slumber. It must be morning. She woke up like this everyday, a simple fact of life for her. The medication she took before bed was wearing off quickly. It always did after a night's sleep .. since the serratonin her body produced broke down it's properties rapidly. It was why she had to take it in the morning (so she could face the day) and at night so she didn't go completely crazy during the middle of the night. Sometimes she found it tiring, but it was how things were. There was a time she had desperately tried to learn how to control her own abilities, but was always overwhelmed by them to the point of insanity. The meds were simply easier. And no one had ever told her otherwise. Cringing, she leaned over to her bedside table and opened a drawer, pulling out the hypospray that contained the 20cc's of the enotherizine. It was the little 'cocktail' she would consume that would settle her for the rest of the day. It suppressed her abilities nearly 70%, though it tended to fluctuate depending on her body's chemistry that day. She lifted the hypospray to her neck and injected it, the hypospray making it's normal hissing sound as it entered her bloodstream. Within a few moments her cringing disappeared and the thundering noise in her head became a very low humming mumble. She exhaled a bit and fell back onto her pillow, wiping her forehead dry with her hand. Cameryn had to tell herself daily that this was worth it. Without the drugs she could easily change into a completely different person. The doctors at the institute told her so. And the Academy doctors didn't seem to argue much about it. As long as she behaved and excelled and followed the directions .. she was fine to them. But she had to wonder if this was really her .... or was she just a girl walking around with chemical emotions.
  2. Duty Log: Doctor Cameryn Azri, MD Patient Report: Lieutenant Apollo Link Begin Recording..... "Lieutenant Link came into Sickbay with a rather nasty sunburn on his back. From the first moment I spoke to him ..he seemed very uncomfortable. At first I thought it was a typical dislike for Sickbay, but I soon came to realize by his actions and my limited senses .. it was me. I tried to withhold my usual bedside manner; because I tend to be very interactive with my patients. The sunburn was located on the patients back, a very high 1st degree burn. And there were strange letters imprinted by the use of sunblock. N-E-R-D. I did a little research, because the word seemed familiar to me as an Earth slang, for someone who is unstylish, unattractive and socially inept. I cannot make a sure judgment on his social ineptness, but I did not view the Lieutenant as being unstylish or unattractive. I am assuming this was a practical joke played on him. I used the dermal regenerator and patched him up, good as new. He made a quick departure. There is no need for a follow up appointment. End report on Lieutenant Link. Duty Log: Doctor Cameryn Azri, MD Patient Report: Lieutenant (JG) Kirok Begin Recording ... Lieutenant Kirok came into Sickbay complaining of an intense headache. He had no reasonable explanation for his pain. There was no head trauma sustained prior and nothing really showed up at the scans. Though it did reveal he was part Betazoid. My theory is his Vulcan penchant for the unemotional and his Betazoid empathic abilities might be conflicting with each other. The Betazoid brain can sometimes be an erratic one, and those who are mixed with other races occasionally suffer physical pains. I gave him a 2o cc dose of farinderzine for the pain and it seemed to work quickly. I have to note that the Lieutenant seemed very troubled. I sense it, and he seemed to want to talk about it .. would bring it up and then recoil. I might request a follow up appointment with him and discuss possible counseling. I will run it by Doctor Maxwell in the near future. All I know is I ended the encounter feeling very troubled ... End report on Lieutenant Kirok. /End Duty Log. Send to: Doctor Maxewell Chief Medical Officer; USS Republic.
  3. "Ingredients for a New Life" Ensign Cameryn Azri, MD Stardate 0406.24 After the initial check in, Doctor Maxwell kindly helped carry Cameryn's bags to her quarters so she could get settled. She hoped that they could meet up later and look over the new Sickbay. Cameryn fumbled with her new security code but finally got it to open for her. The doors slid open and revealed the typical quarters for an Ensign fresh out of the Academy. Small and cozy. She tugged her bags inside and stood there for a moment. Inhaling deeply, she felt completely at ease. Her head wasn't bothering her at all .. there was a soft buzz instead. Nearly soothing. She always felt a soft buzz when among many new minds.. perhaps since it was leave the ship wasn't as filled to capacity. Cameryn knew it would get louder than a buzz eventually. "Computer, illumination to 73%, please." The computer clicked and beeped in response as the lights came up a bit. Cameryn moved straight over to the small desk in the corner. Pulling out the chair, she sat down and logged into the desktop computer panel. With a few taps of her fingers, her parents' smiling faces were staring back at her. "Cameryn! We didn't expect to hear from you so soon! Her mother, Liana exclaimed. Her father, Deacon, rolled his eyes slightly. He loved his wife dearly, but sometimes she drove him nuts. Cam held back a big grin, opting to look a bit more professional. "I told you I'd be checking in when I arrived .. I know how you worry needlessly about me." Cam knew they wanted to watch over her like a hawk, worried she would snap and go crazy. Liana began to open her mouth again, but Deacon managed to begin talking before she did (which was quite the feat), "Your mother and I know you can take care of yourself .. you have proven that, obviously, with this great step in your life." "Thank you, Father.. your confidence means a lot to me. I just wanted to call and let you know that I am on the Republic now ..and it's every bit as beautiful as I had envisioned it. I have yet to head down to Sickbay and check that out .. but I have my Chief and he seems to be a pleasant individual. Betazoid as well." Her mother put her hand over her husband's mouth, "OH! Reaaaallly? Is he cute?" Cam blinked, "Mother! He's my chief! I hadn't really noticed!" "But you should... you know, as you work closely with him..." "Mother, I promised myself I would not get involved with people I work closely with .. besides, I have too much to think about. My work, in fact. Being a doctor is all I really care about." Deacon pushed his wife's hand away, "See, Liana? Our daughter is responsible.. and not always thinking about who she is going marry. It's not really that important anyway..!" Liana sputtered, "Deacon Azri! Is it TOO important .. someone has to be around to take care of her when we are gone!" Here they go again, Cameryn thought to herself, "Oh .. oh, I think someone is calling me to Sickbay! Must be going.. talk to you soon! Love you!" She quickly cut the subspace connection. Her parents, they loved each other dearly .. but didn't like each other one bit. She stood from the desk and carefully pushed the chair back in. It was time to get settled .. because the sooner she did, the sooner she could see Sickbay. That was the perfect motivation. Cameryn opened her bags to unpack her things. She had a new place to live. A career she loved dearly. And her life completely under control. It was all she needed, the ingredients for a new life.
  4. "Heart Over Mind" Ensign Cameryn Azri, MD Stardate 0406.23 (occurs right after her graduation from the Academy) It was strange to see her dorm room empty. For so many years, it was filled with her trinkets and books and PADDs and clutter. Her own personal space, on her own .. without the watchful eyes of her parents looking over her. She would miss it, indeed, but she was moving onto bigger and better things in the end; a new assignment. She was a doctor, fresh out of the Academy and ready to take on the universe. "Cameryn?" a voice broke the silence of her inner monologue. Cameryn turned around and saw her mother, Liana Azri, standing there. A typical Betazoid mother, she wore a somewhat ornate outfit, even though she was just a local merchant back in their hometown. ("Hey, I OWN half that business! I'm a business woman!" she'd say to that.) "Yes, mother?" Liana walked up next to her, picking up the box in front of her, "You seemed a bit distant there .. going to miss this place, mm?" Cam smiled, "Of course .. I am sure you could sense that." "A mother always knows what her child is feeling ... you don't need to be Betazoid for that, my dear. But yes, I could sense it .. a little too clearly. You didn't forget to take your medication this morning did you?" Cameryn's experiences with her abilities had made her parents way too overprotective, "Mother, you know that empathic signals from me aren't the problem. But yes, I did take it. I know how to take care of myself you know." "I know, I know .. it's just, we can't have you destroying anything on your new assignment. A starship with a ripped up Sickbay .. that wouldn't be very good on your official record." Cameryn, with her uniquely strong empathic abilities, even with them suppressed, could still sense her mother wasn't being entirely open with her. Her eyes widened, "You KNOW something! How do you know it's a STARSHIP!" Her grinned, with a coy wink, "Oh, I read this little PADD's mind .." She held up a PADD, with an official Starfleet Emblem on it. Cameryn snatched it from her mother's hands and read it over carefully.. _________________________________ To Ensign Cameryn Azri, MD Starfleet Academy Dorms, Section 48D Ensign Azri, we are pleased to inform you that you have been assigned. You will report to the Federation outpost at New Bajor, where you will meet up with the USS Republic and join their crew as medical personnel. You will be meeting with a Doctor Maxwell there and proceeding to the ship. All your records and files will be sent to the Republic immediately and they will be anxiously awaiting your arrival. Congratulations on your graduation from the Academy and the School of Medicine and welcome to Starfleet! May you travel the stars in safety, Ensign! Sincerely, Admiral Jakub Foster Starfleet Academy Personnel Associate __________________________________ "How amazing! The Republic! I hear that is a fascinating ship.. and New Bajor! Oh, mother..this is exquisite. And I am finally starting the life I've always dreamed of!" Cameryn could barely contain her excitement. Liana smiled and then embraced her daughter. "I was hoping we'd have more time together before you shipped out .. but I suppose you are grown up .. and need to follow your path in life. It's been so rough .. and you've turned out more than anyone ever expected. You are so lucky.. " Cameryn pulled back and looked at her mother, "I know .. I know I am lucky I didn't end up rotting back in Mestarine .. and even though there are hard days where my head feels invaded by a million voices .. I get through it because I've been helped, I had medicine that has changed my life and I am strong ... everything will be allright. You must believe me." "I do .. you know I do. I can't help but worry." Liana let her daughter go and smiled at her. "I know you worry.. but don't. My mind's ability may have tried to drive me crazy, but heart's determination will make me prevail. Heart over mind, mother... heart over mind." They picked the rest of Cameryn's things and moved out, the doors shutting on her Academy years once and for all. Onward to the future. Heart over mind.
  5. STARFLEET PERSONNEL FILE: AZRI, CAMERYN HOPE Name: Cameryn Hope Azri Rank: Ensign Gender: Female Species: Betazoid Age: 23 yrs Birthplace: Lake Cataria, Betazed Birthdate: Stardate 8105.10 Height: 5 feet, 6 inches Weight: 117 lbs Eye Color: Dark Green w/ specks of light green Hair Color & Style: Black, long and somewhat wavy Complexion: Pale, with just a hint of creamy Special Abilities: As a full Betazoid she has her species telepathic abilities. But due to her condition (See Background for further details) those abilities are usually 50-70% suppressed. Medical Profile: Cameryn Azri is in top physical shape for a Betazoid woman of her age. Though very slim, her appetite is certainly healthy and she just enjoys the advantages of a fast metabolism. She needs no dietary supplementation at this time. Though she should lay off the sweets a bit. Cameryn only exhibits one scar, located on her left wrist, going across (See Psychological Profile for details). It was repaired, but very deep and could not be erased completely at the time. She has indicated no need for further aesthetic repair. Cameryn is also exhibiting no side effects of the medication she is currently prescribed. (See Psychological Profile for details) Psychological Profile: Cameryn is currently taking 20ccs of enotherizine, a drug used to suppress her Betazoid telepathic abilities by 50-70%, twice a day. (morning and night) She has been on this medication since age 3, when she began exhibiting mental instability due to being born with her full abilities. Most Betazoids gain their abilities during adolescence. She is very fortunate that therapy and her medication keeps this condition under control; most Betazoids born this way are unable to cope with it and are eventually locked away. As long as her medication regimen is strict, she can be a fully functional member of Starfleet. Her Starfleet psychological record is spotless. Do note that at age 16 she attempted to take her own life due to not remaining on her medication and succumbing to the overwhelming telepathic overload. Stafleet Academy Profile: Cadet Training School: Passed all required courses College of Medicine: Passed all required courses. Specialties in General Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Obstetrics, Medical Research. Continues correspondence courses on other subjects on new assignment. Family Background: Liana Renee Azri -- Mother, Local Merchant Deacon Marlowe Azri -- Father, Local Merchant Arina Fabienne Azri -- Sister (18yrs), Student Madsen Fredric Azri -- Brother (15yrs), Student Personal Background: Cameryn Hope Azri was born on Stardate 8205.10 in a small town on the shores of Lake Cataria, Betazed. The first child of Liana and Deacon Azri, she was the apple of her parents' eyes. She was a relatively normal baby and toddler until about age 3, when she began to exhibit troubling personality traits. Frequent violent outbursts upon her parents and family pets. She had horrible nightmares and panic attacks, causing her to scream, cry and usually curl up into a ball on the floor. Constant headaches and inflicting harm upon herself. Her parents sought medical help and it was discovered that Cameryn, among a very low percentile of Betazoid children, was born with her abilities fully developed. The overwhelming influx of this telepathic energy usually causes these poor children to become mentally unstable and unable to be rehabilitated into functioning members of society. Doctors saw hope in little Cameryn, and started her on a strict regimen of medication and therapy. This seemed to help her and she grew up like a normal child. During her teenage years, she became increasingly rebellious. The constant taking of medication, although decreased from 5 times a day to only 2, was a never-ending annoyance to her. Unable to really fathom the severity of her actions .. she secretly stopped taking her medication. Within only a few days it was clear that Cameryn was becoming unstable. Her parents and doctors tried to force her to take her medication yet again, but she would refuse, sometimes violently. Seeing no other choice, her parents had her locked up in the Mestarine Institute, a psychiatric facility that took care of people like her. Even there, she still refused her medication, though sometimes it was forced on her during sedation. She felt her spirit being crushed there and during one of her 'episodes', she used a knife that was given to her, accidentally, with her meal and slit her left wrist. At that moment someone came into her room to administer another sedative and found Cameryn on the floor, shaking and bleeding. It was in a moment of clarity, while they worked on repairing her injury, that she realized she did not want to live like this any longer. From that point on she took her medication voluntarily and entered therapy once again. Within a week, Cameryn was home with her family and thinking of the future. A year later, she approached her parents with the idea of joining Starfleet. At first they were apprehensive. They did not feel that she would be able to function away from them, without their supervision. Cameryn pleaded with them to give her a chance. In that years time she had turned her life around, was no longer needing therapy and completely aware of the risks of going off her medication. After finally gaining their blessing, she worked hard to prepare for the Starfleet Academy exam. Cameryn passed her exam with flying colours, and though there was questions about her history and the problems she had growing up, the Academy still gave her a chance. For the first year she was placed on a certain 'probation', having to attend therapy twice a week and check in with Medical weekly to make sure her medication was being taken. Though it irked her a bit, she realized why they were being so cautious, and was thankful they were discreet about it as well. The next year she was released from that probation, but continued to check in anyway, in good faith. It was because of her own experiences that she decided Medicine would be her field of choice. After completing her training school required courses, she entered the College of Medicine and began a heavy workload. But she loved every second of it. Even after her graduation, she decided to continue her studies via correspondence courses. Cameryn was assigned to the USS Republic, as a Medical Officer/MD. There she resides, starting another chapter in her life.
