  1. Kania had just walked off the lift and was walking down the medical corridor carrying Schawana, and with every step she took a small toot sound would come sneaking out from behind her. It had been going on for so long now that Schawana was able to ignore it. Joe, on the other hand, had just arrived in the sick bay after doing some extra rounds around the ship, vaccinating the few people that remained infected with the virus. He was going into the lab to start his work on synthesizing the vaccine in hopes that it would be as effective for all the ill that were on New Bajor, but he was not entirely sure that it would work. The vaccine had very unique chemical properties that would make the synthesizing process quite difficult, and the byproduct of all that work may not even work at all to cure the poor souls on New Bajor, but Joe knew he had to try. He stepped into the lab, asking his head nurse, Ms. Hardarse, to keep an eye on everything in sickbay while he worked. A few minutes after he had entered the medical lab, Captain Kawalas and her daughter Schawana came walking in. As Kania walked, the sound of a toot could be distinctly heard with every step she took, almost as if her digestive tract was heralding her arrival into the room. Nurse Hardarse approached the Captain, unaware of her problem. "Do you require..." she paused for a moment as she took a quick sniff, the smell finally reaching her noise, "...um...assistance Captain?" Hardarse finished. "I'm afraid so." she replied. "Dr Maxwell also wished to see Schawnana here." she later added. "Yes...Of course...One moment please." Hardarse replied as she scurried off to the Medical lab, in a relative hurry. She then pressed the door chime and Dr. Maxwell came to door. "Yes? What is it?" he asked Hardarse. "Captain Kawalas and her daughter are here to see you, sir." she said as she motioned over to the biobed that Kania was placing Schawana on. "Ahh yes. I've been expecting them." he replied as he looked back into the lab, seeing if anything needed to secured before he exited." "The Doctor will be here in a minute.. He's going to be so happy to see you awake." said Kania to her to daughter, while they waited for Dr Maxwell. Schawana then leaned over and gave her mother a big hug. "Otay mommy" Schawana replied Shortly afterwards, Dr Maxwell stepped out of the lab, noting a strange smell as he sniffed the air. Joe then grabbed Nurse Hardarse by the arm and whispered her in ear "What is that smell??" he asked, wondering if there had been some sort of spill or something along those lines that made the room smell peculiar. "It's Captain Kawalas, sir...she's having a bit of a *problem*..." Hardarse replied. "Oh...OOOHHHHH..." as if he understood now what the problem was. "Okay...After she leaves, be sure to bring some matches Ms. Hardarse." he told her. Hardarse then gave Joe a nod and ran off to the nurses office, a hand over her nose, and a look of almost horror on her face. As Joe stepped out of the office he could tell that Captain Kawalas did not look to well. She looked very flushed and feverish, almost as if the vaccine was having adverse effect on her. Captain Kawalas turned as she heard a door opened and noticed that it was the doctor. "Hello Doctor Maxwell" she said, as Joe walked up to her "Hello Captain, I see you brought little Schawana for her check up." he replied. "That I did, and after we are finished with her I need your attention as well." she told him. "Yes, of course, Captain" replied Joe with a nod, trying his best to breathe out of his mouth. Kania then backed away slightly from Schawana so that Dr Maxwell could do his work. Schawana then waved at Joe and said "hi doctor." "Hello Schawana, how do you feel today, sweetheart?" Joe asked the little girl, leaning forward slightly so that he could get a good look at her face. "Im hungry but mommy said you had to see me before I could eat good stuff instead of waterey stuff" Schawana replied. Joe smiled slightly at her response. "I want a nutter and jewey samwish" she added. Joe grinned. "Of course sweetheart. This only take a minuter or two and then you can have your sandwhich." he told her, as Schawana swung her legs over the end of the biobed. "Mommy say I haf to wait til you say it ok" she replied. "We have to follow doctors orders Schawana." Kawalas added. "Yes, you do darling. Now, you have to stay nice and still for me okay." Joe said as a reached over to one of the nearby trays, grabbing a medical tricorder. "otay" Schawana replied. Joe then ran the tricorder over Schawana, doing the check up on her respiratory systems. He pecked a few buttons on the tricorder, and then closed the tricorder. Schawana continued to swing her legs during the medical scans. Joe smiled once again and looked Schawana in the eye "Alright. Now we have one more thing to do." Joe said. "what tat" she replied as Joe loaded up a hypospray. "I just have to give you an injection and then you should be all better, okay darling?" he said. "otay" Schawana responded with a nod. "will it huwt?" she asked as Joe put the hypo against her arm. "No, you should hardly even feel a thing." he said as Schawana looked at her mother. He then pressed the button, releasing the contents of the hypo. "Alright, all done." he told her. Schawana looked up at the doctor and said "Tat fast and no huwt. Mommy he do it so no huet" she said to Kania "See, there you go. Now, what do you like better, grape or cherry?" Joe asked the little girl with a smile. Schawana looked between Kania and the Doc, waiting for her mom to say it was okay. Kania then gave her a nod. "Chewrry" she replied to Joe. Joe dug into his coat pocket, taking out a cherry lollipop, handing it to Schawana. "Here you go darling, for being a good girl." he said with a wink. Her eyes got big and she yelled out "TAnkyou!!" as she took the lollipop. "Can I get down now?" she asked. "Yes of course." said Joe. And with that Kania came over to help Schawana down, a small toot sneaking out while she helped her daughter again. Joe coughed a bit; his attempt at stifling a laugh. "Ahem...Excuse me." he said. Kania shook her head, almost as if she knew why Joe was coughing. "OK Schawana, Jenny is outside waiting for you. You go with her and let the tribble out to play for a while " she told her daughter. "Otay mommy" she told her mother. She than ran out to meet up with Jenna. "Im sorry Doc but thats what I need to see you about" said Kawalas. "So what's the problem?" he asked, his attempt at being sure what the problem is. "As if you didn't just hear..." she said, in tone that said she knew that he knew what the problem was. She than sat down on the same biobed that Schawana was on. "I have never had this sort of trouble before. After you gave me the injection the other day, I have not been able to hold anything down but toast and then started I started with this..." she added. Joe smirked a bit, trying to hide a smile. He just couldn't believe that this was really happening. "So. Is that the...um...only problem?" he asked. "I'm slightly dehydrated from not being able to hold water down, so besides that I'm okay." she said. "It did stop me from sneezing." she added. "I see...well...the vaccine must of had an adverse effect on you." Joe said as he reached over for the same tricorder that he had used on Schawana, running it over Kawalas. "I haven't felt this bad in a long time... There is pain here." Kawalas said, pointing to her abdomen, as Joe continued to run the tricorder over her. Joe then closed the tricorder and put it off to the side. "Well, it's just your body, in the digestive tract, creating an extreme amount of methane, due to a bacterial infection, that has made you nauseated and has caused your extreme...flatulence." he said. "Doc I need to get fixed up. I Need to go on the away team. I'm hoping to talk them out of killing BluRox." she said, as she labored to breathe, due to the pain in her abdomen. "Don't worry Captain, everything will be fine" Joe said, as he pecked at the hypospray and placed it up against Kawalas's neck, giving her the injection. She closed her eyes for a moment. "How long will it take to take effect?" she asked Joe decided to explain what he had just given her. "This drug is related to what was once know as exlax combined with a Penicillin type drug. It should clear out your digestive tract in a few hours, but it won't be fun...You'll feel sudden urges to go to bathroom over the next 4 hours, but afterwards, you should be okay. This will also take care of the nausea that you've been experiencing." Joe explained. "But be warned, do not be surprised if you suddenly feel constipated or feel stomach pains." Joe added. "Im already feeling stomach pains" she replied "Well...Stronger stomach pains." Joe said. "Ok" she responded with a nod. "Will this re occur?" she added. "No, it shouldn't after the four hours are over." he said. She gave Joe another nod. "Anything else Doc?" she asked. "Nothing else, no. And I'd recommend that you clear out your quarters for the four hours, it probably won't be pleasant time for Schawana and Jenna. She nodded once again as she stepped down from the biobed. "Thanks Doc" she said. "No problem, Captain." he replied. "And Thank you for treating Schawana with such pardon the pun but kid gloves" Kawalas said. Joe grinned a bit. "Don't worry about, sir. It's my job to make everyone feel welcomed here in sickbay." he said. "She seems to like you and That I like to see." she said as Joe continued to grinned. "Thank you Doc" she added. "You are welcome, Captain." he said. Captain Kawalas then stepped out of sickbay. Once she left, Nurse Hardarse came out of the nurses office with a mask on and some candles in one hand and matches in the other. She had a look of worry on her face as she spoke to Joe. "Is she gone, sir?" she asked, a sound of hope her voice, as if she had just gone through the most traumatic experience of her life... <END LOG>
  2. "How did this happen??" was the only thing that Joe was able to think during his time in the Medical Lab. He was looking at one of the displays as it showed this mysterious virus that had infected so many people on the ship. He watched the computer's visual 3D rendition of how the virus operated in one of the samples he had taken from an ill crew member. He watched as the crew members immune system attempted to fight back the virus to no avail. Joe sat in the lab, with vials and test tubes here and there, rubbing his temples. Over the last few hours he had developed a slight headache, sure it wasn't anything major, but it was starting to become a nuisance. He thought it would be probably wise to give himself a check-up, so he did. Joe ran the tricorder over himself, and to his surprise, found that he was in the early stages of the viral infection. He looked over the results from the tricorder and found that the vaccine, that he himself created, had done nothing to impede the progress of the virus, in fact, had he not know what to look for, he would have completely passed over the virus. He then thought it would be wise to look over Commander Seiben and Commander Kwai's status. He saw that they were progressing, but when he looked into it, he found that all the vaccine had done was slow the virus down, it was still multiply and growing, but not at the rate it would in a non-infected crew member. "The vaccine is a failure...", he thought, "...all it's done is mask the virus...I've done all that I can, this thing is out of my hands now. We have to get back to New Bajor and find a way to cure everyone, befpre this 'thing' kills us." He knew that if they didn't move immediately that it would result in the deaths of several crew members, and the way it was going Commander Kwai would be first casualty. Captain Kwalas was still on her away mission to Yaderna II, so he knew he'd have to report his findings directly to Admiral BluRox. He quickly dodged out of sickbay and ran off to a turbolift and quickly proceeded to the bridge. Time was of the essence, but the moment he stepped off the bridge he saw that Lieutenant Ki'rok was talking to someone, a Dr. Moreau, the head of the Medical facilities on New Bajor. Joe tried to interrupt Ki'rok, as he understood the problem that was happening on New Bajor, but Ki'rok ignored him and simply carried on with the Doctor. When Doctor Moreau told them of there problem, Joe knew that Admiral BluRox should be informed immediately, and Joe even told Dr. Moreau that they would proceed back to Bajor as quickly as they possibly could, but Ki'rok closed down the communication. Joe couldn't help but look at Ki'rok, he wanted to know what the hell was behind his irrational behavior, especially towards Dr. Moreau's call for help, which the Republic should probably respond to soon, if not there is going to be a lot of dead people all over the place...

  4. Here Joe sat, in his quarters. Admiral BluRox had just given him his news orders. He was simply shocked and amazed. A Chief Medical Officer on board a Starship, a Galaxy class one none the less too. This was what Joe had dreamed of, but it had caught him off guard. He had only been out of the Academy for about a month now. The most he had done since he had left the academy was to help out during a famine that broke out on some of the farms on New Bajor. And then Blu came out of the...well out of the blue and assigned him aboard the Republic. Doctor Ian Kavork was not even phased by the fact one of his few assistants was re-assigned to a Starship, but he knew that his boss was probably elated for him. Nurse Betty had been ringing to door chime multiple times for the last 5 mins, she was trying to get into Joe's quarters, but he wasn't really paying attention. It wasn't until she started shouting over the comm "JOE! Open the door! I know your in there!!" that he finally snapped out of his zoned state and said "Enter". Nurse Betty came barging into his quarters and started yelling. "Are you trying to give me heart attack! I rang the door chime like twenty times!! What in the world is the matter with you!" she screamed. "Betty, Betty, calm down. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare you like that. It's just I was a bit in shock." he replied. "Is this because of your new posting??" she asked as she toned down a bit. "It is actually. I was just caught off guard. I know you can't tell, but I'm ecstatic over it. This has been my dream, to be the Chief Medical Officer aboard an immense Starship" he said. Nurse Betty smiled "I know! I'm excited too! Cause your taking me with you...right??" she said with a glare. "Ummm...about that. I don't know if you can come along. I don't want to leave Dr. Kavork without any staff. I think it would be best if you stayed here." he replied. "But Joe. I want to go! I've been at this outpost since it was re-established. I wanna get off of this place and go out and explore the galaxy. Please take me with you." she said with the look of a sad Puppy. "Betty...You shouldn't lie to me. You forget I'm half Betazoid which means I'm empathic. I know the reason you want to come is because you love me, and because of this it would interfere with out Doctor/Nurse relationship. That's why I can let you come." he said. Betty stood there, with tears welling up in her eyes "Oh Joe....I'm sorry. I've wanted to tell you...but I couldn't..please Joe you have to take me with you." she replied. Joe went over and held her by the hand "Betty, if you want to come you have to swear to me that you will not let your feelings interfere with your duties. The second you come aboard the Republic any hope of any relationship will be gone. Do you understand?" Joe said. She nodded as the tears slipped from her eyes "Yes...I do..." she said. "Alright. I'll talk with Doctor Kavork and set everything up." he replied. Nurse Betty nodded and then added before she left "We're having a going away party for you before you leave. Talk with Ian". And with that she went running out his quarters weeping down the corridor. He knew she had her feelings hurt, but it was necessary. He knew that there relationship was going to have to be strictly professional. Now it was time for the arduous task of packing, and then he would be heading out to his new home amongst the stars. The Republic....
  5. =/\= Accessing LCARS =/\= Classified Personnel File: Dr. Joseph Maxwell Name: Joseph Richard Maxwell Race: 1/2 Terran, 1/2 Betazoid Sex: Male P.O.B: Betazed Age: 28 Height: 6ft. 2in. Weight: 185 Ibs. Hair: Light Brown Eyes: Black Martial Status: Single Father: Commander Richard Maxwell. Professor at Starfleet Academy. Mother: Jestra Maxwell-Troi. Deceased. Siblings: Lieutenant Jonathan Maxwell. Brother. Operations Officer - USS Lexington. Personal History: Joe was the second son born to Jestra and Richard Maxwell. His birth was on Betazed in his mothers childhood home by Lake Al-Nar. He was named after his grandfather on his father's side of the family; Jestra followed Richard's wishes on naming the boy. His father was away at the time of his birth, he was serving on a tour of duty aboard the USS Nautilus; on which he served aboard for another 10 years. Joe was born into the Fifth House of Betazed and his mother was niece to the famed Lwaxana Troi, and cousin to Deanna Troi. During Joe's childhood he was raised mostly by his mother on Betazed. Though he was born into a very privileged life he was never one to look down on people. He also believed that many of the Betazoid traditions were a little silly and foolish, but he would never think of voicing his opinions. His mother, being a full Betazoid, knew of his feelings and understood them, but she also knew that he should not speak his mind and asked him to set his feelings aside, for the good of the family. He loved and respected his mother so he obeyed her wishes. When Joe reached the age of 10, his father, who visited Betazed every once in a while, transfered aboard Starbase G-6. The base was only a shuttle ride away so Joe and his brother Jon went over to live on the base with his father, while his mother remained on Betazed to tend her sickly mother. Joe stayed with his father for a few years till he hit his pubescent years, when his empathic abilities started to kick in. He was forced to return to Betazed and commence training to control his abilities. Through rigorous training he managed to gain remarkable control over his empathic abilities, and like most half Betazoids, his basic telepathic abilities were absent, but strangely enough he was capable of using them amongst close family and friends. During this time his father would commute as much as he could between Betazed and Starbase G-6 to provide support for Joe during his training. Once Joe turned eighteen he applied to enter Starfleet Academy and passed the entrance exam with flying colors. During the time he attended the Academy the Dominion War had erupted in the Alpha Quadrant. His father was a senior officer aboard Starbase G-6 at the time, and the G-6 was turned into one of the chief bases during the war, but suffered a major blow when the Dominion took Betazed in the final year of the war. Joe's mother was still on the planet when it was taken, caring for her mother who had passed away by the time Dominion forces had gained control of Betazed. During the year that Betazed was under the control of the Dominion, Joe's mother decided to infiltrate the temporary provisional government that the Dominion had set up and play the mole. During the months she served in the provisional government she leaked classified and sensitive information to Klingon/Romulan/Federation Alliance, such as Dominion fleet movements and the attack strategies the Dominion had planned to use against the Alliance. Once the war had entered its final months, Dominion forces on Betazed found out that Jestra was a mole and was leaking information to the Alliance. She was tried for high treason and was executed by the Dominion for her acts. Word of her death did not reach anyone till the end of war and the peace treaty was signed. Joe was halfway through his studies at the Academy when he found out and it hit him really hard. He was excused from his classes for a few weeks to mourn. He thought of dropping out of the Academy while he was away, but he knew his mother would be extremely disappointed in him if he did. So he continued his studies in the Academy and later on in Medical school. He completed his studies and graduated third in his class and was assigned to the Federation outpost on New Bajor in the Gamma Quadrant, before being transfered aboard the USS Republic, by order of Rear Admiral Errrika BluRox, to fill the Chief Medical Officer position. Medical Profile: Specializations: Internal Medicine, Neurology, and Forensics Medicine. Secondary: Intensive studies in Psychological Behaviors and Conditioning's. Psychological Profile: Joe is a quiet and restrained person. Since he has remarkable control over his emphatic abilities he rarely uses them. He also has rarely had any sort of problem. It's been remarkable how he's been able to cope with the death of his mother. We suspect it might be due to the ability for Betazoids to contain traumatic experiences and forcibly repress them from within there mind. We feel confident that the doctors repressed memories should not interrupt with his regular duties, and give him a clean bill of mental health. -Counselor Telnorri, Bajoran Sector. END FILE
