A9 is cleaning out his quarters and Sovak is pulling together an honor guard to receive a Fleet officer who beamed directly to the Bridge - a Klingon warrior, dressed in a Starfleet uniform. = /\ = END USS MANTICORE BRIEFING #955, STARDATE 51706.19 = /\ =
  2. Welcome, Matt (oh dear - welcome mat... I won't say it) Glad you found us and it's interesting that you were involved in SFOL. STSF is a direct offshoot of SFOL, as all of our sims were once a part of that group. Just as you commented on Paramount's demands about our Trek name usages, it became even more interesting with AOL. So, we reached out to StarTrek.com and found a new home with them. We built this site to support our chat rooms on StarTrek.com and, over time (and the shut down of their gaming chat rooms), we fully migrated all STSF operations to our website - and here we are. So it's not just "glad you found us," it's also "welcome back!"

  11. = /\ = USS MANTICORE BRIEFING #950, STARDATE 51705.01 = /\ = Mayday, Mayday! (I couldn't resist, sorry) Happy 19th birthday to Manticore!! With the "help" of the USS Obsidian (Section 31), the Manticore responded to and ultimately stood by while the freighter Tawa was destroyed after a Section 31 experiment got out of hand and the spores they were carrying infected and killed the entire crew. We were able to keep the Manticore crew safe, who responded to the initial distress call, but the Tawa crew was too far along in the infection. A9 took command of the Obsidian to keep Section 31 from going too far into skunkworks world, but he couldn't keep the command himself. Hence his demotion of the original captain and the field promotion of Commander McFly to Captain McFly. 16. First and foremost, a huge THANK YOU to Webbie for all the work he put into the new layout/design/back-end support!!! And now, to play "bad cop," let me clue you in to a few small "gotcha"s: We would like to think we thought of everything, but... we haven't. If you find something isn't working correctly, please let me know (on the Boards or to [email protected]). Please keep in mind that some things you may think are "broken" just cannot or will not be supported in the new version. We will do all we can to provide answers for all questions, but please remember that you have two people - the Brains (Webbie) and the Huckster (me) - and a free website that is supporting chat, message boards, schedule, mobile support, automated chat logs, etc. If you had a saved URL that took you directly to a sub-page from the main page, you will probably have to update that, as a number of the page URLs has changed. If you are a GM and had previously been set up as a chat room moderator in the new chat rooms, those settings were lost during the conversion. I should still have all of your e-mails designating your Mod account name but, just in case, feel free to let me know again. The new chat rooms will not be able to support some of the tweaks we had in the old Java version - no sounds, no colored text, no pop-out window for IMs/PMs Last reminder for GMs on the automated chat logs- if you have not yet told me what sims you need the chat log for (and confirm the e-mail address when it comes to you from GMail), please do this right away. We will be automatically providing chat logs to the command team for each sim - if you have let me know the sim and address to receive the log. If you are a GM and wish for a chat log for a sim where you are *NOT* on the command team, I will contact that team for approval. As a reminder, every chat log will come out in two flavors, one with line-by-line timestamps and one without.
  17. The site will be undergoing an upgrade to a stronger/better back-end to be able to support and integrate the new chat rooms. This means that starting right after Republic, next Monday, 4/17 at 12:30 AM ET (yeah, that means Tuesday, I know, I know), the chat rooms, the Boards and THE ENTIRE SITE will go down and stay down until Thursday evening, 4/20 at 9:00 PM ET. If you try to get in during the Tue-Thu period and see weird screens/views or you just cannot connect, don't panic, that just means it is in mid-conversion. There is nothing we can do to speed up the process, so please bear with us and enjoy Netflix or Hulu for a couple of nights!

  22. Folks, we are painfully aware of the Java issues that are plaguing our chat rooms. At this point, the only way we know of loading the rooms is through Internet Explorer (not Edge) and Firefox - most of the time. Some people are at a point where their Firefox/Java combo aren't working either. Webbie is just about ready to roll out new chat rooms that use HTML5 and no Java. Please try and hold on (and suffer through IE) and we should have a better option for you all soon. Thank you. -A9
  23. Latest update to the new rooms: Update on how to enter a chat room. When you go to www.stsf.net/community you will get right into the chat rooms, if you are logged in to your accounts. If not logged in, you will see the option to log in and then you will see the chat rooms. There is no longer a need to go to the Browse menu. This means the steps are now: Go to www.stsf.net/community and log in with your account Under the "Messenger heading on the left, you can click on the "Chat Rooms" heading and select your room to enter That's it, you're in! The plan is to try these new rooms for 1-2 weeks and get your feedback before we go live. At the time of "Go Live," the entire site will be down for an evening. After that, the chat rooms will be integrated with all the rest and the Boards will also be updated to the latest version. *** PLEASE NOTE *** Since the Chat Rooms are not yet integrated with the Boards, if you need to update your password, you will need to do it in both places (or send me a note and I can update password for the room) How to make the chat room adjustable in size or "float" If you are having an issue with the chat room being too tall (i.e. too much space between the top of the scrolling typing and the bottom with the tabs and where you enter your own text), there's a fix for that! When you are in the chat rooms, you can use the Browse menu on the left and choose "Float Chat." This will give you another browser tab and as you adjust the browser window, the chat window will re-size as well. With most browsers you can even click on the browser tab and drag it out of the browser for a "floating" chat window, like we had in Java-land.
  24. UPDATED!! HTML5 Chat Rooms are here, they can be run from any browser! They are still being tweaked a bit but they are up and running (thankyouthankyou, Rob!) Go to www.stsf.net/community and log in with your account From the Browse menu on the left, double-click on "Chat Rooms" Under the "Messenger" heading on the left, you can click on "Chat Rooms" and select your room to enter That's it, you're in! FAQ-ish stuff Your text is in a colored balloon and right-justified, everyone else's text is left justified and starts with their own name. No text colors available at this point I'm not clear on how I get chat logs, so until I figure that out, no daily logs coming to the GMs No pop-out or floating room or private message windows, they are all on tabs across the bottom of the screen. Click on another player's name to get a drop-down menu that would allow a private message Next Steps Webbie is still working on the linking and menus, etc., but I would recommend the sims switch to the new rooms as soon as possible. Look out for an email from your GMs about when your sim will switch to the new rooms. Please be patient with the new system, as we are still getting it all worked out. Below is a picture showing Admiral Atragon-9 in a chat with Atragon9. You can see the user list on the right and the room list on the left - both lists can be hidden. Note how Admiral Atragon-9's text is on the right side with no tag in front of it (because it is "me"), but the text by Atragon9 is at the left and starts with an identifier.
