  1. (m) "Old man" sheesh... Yes, I was clarifying that the Lounge will remain in the Holodeck, as will the Academy sims. Will this give us more open times during the week for more of them in the Holodeck, yes! Do we have the staff to expand beyond our currently scheduled four Academies, no. We want to be sure that we have them staffed and running regularly, so we will not put one on the Schedule unless we're sure it will run. This is why we've had a big focus on getting Sunday's stable and staffed (please note the change on the Schedule). Thanks
  2. Persistence is a wonderful trait. A group of GMs decided to create STSF and worked, in depth, with Paramount to use their Chat rooms and Board. That is how it all started.
  3. Starting with the USS Manticore sim tonight, February 3, 2003, all advanced simulations will take place in the new startrek.com room that Paramount set up for us, The Ready Room chatroom. There is a link to it on the startrek.com/community/chat.asp page right after the link to the Holodeck chatroom. The Starfleet Academy sims and The Lounge sim, on Saturday evening, will remain in the Holodeck. Thank you. 4. =/\= MANTICORE BRIEFING #243, STARDATE 50302.03 =/\= The Manticore has rescued it's away team and is holding station outside the orbit of Citadel 18. The Team, and the Assault force sent to rescue it, have almost all been released from Sickbay and are returning to their duties. Engineering staff is hard at work on the repairs to the Griffin, Wyvern AND Shuttle Bay 2. The senior staff has met and discussed the situation on the ground and now the Commodore must decide what the next step will be. =/\= END MANTICORE BRIEFING #243, STARDATE 50302.03 =/\=
  5. Yup, just like it says on the Schedule and in the e-mailed versions of the Briefing to you. See you in there!
  6. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers expressed here, this is truly an important topic for Star Trek fans (remember, the first shuttle was named "Enterprise" because of the letter-writing campaign of people like us). I recall, vividly, the numb feeling I had for days following the Challenger explosion. Now, to have that feeling back again is terrible, horrible. The world has lost 7 brave explorers, as we are all reminded of the fragility of life and the danger inherent in space exploration. Words cannot express the sorrow... We, who dream the reality of space flight in our gaming, salute those who live and die for the reality of that dream! 7. And that's the way it's supposed to work!! People have commented that the STSF simming room (hmm, now rooms) is the weakest part of our Forum. My response is that it's our strongest! Sure, the room could work better, mechanically, but it's a chat room *ON* STARTREK.COM!! This way, we are a presence right on the official website for all of Star Trek and people looking for a simming group will find us and join in the fun. ::gets off soap box:: Okay, I'm done, thanks ::D:
  8. :: raises eyebrows :: Dac and Atragon? I swear, the romances on STSF.net could be a soap opera... Oh, I duuno, I think she just wants to watch me die slowly, as she puts me in the shuttle's airlock, eh?
  9. Well, let me say first that I'm not aware of a CO or XO who would move someone down a promotion list for asking, unless that person were being exceedingly annoying and asking for a promotion every week (this is not the same as asking for feedback, this is "can I get promoted this week, PLEASE!!! I already asked last week and the week before and the...) But I digress... As I mentioned in an earlier posting, the GMs are discussing many ways to help new Ensigns feel comfortable on their Advanced sims. We do appreciate any and all thoughts and comments from any players. However, please keep in mind that the final decision will be with each CO and XO team of each sim and there will be no overriding rule mandated from STSF. This discussion is very interesting and I would like to see more comments, but it will not be leading us to a group vote on mentors and a system to be instituted. Thanks.
  10. Actually, I would hope that this is NOT the case. The CO and XO are there to move the plot forward and to insure that the crew is having a good time simming. This ABSOLUTELY includes helping out the newest players with questions. Having said that however, you will have many new players who will feel awkward asking the CO or XO questions (or even some other GM) and that's where a mentor on the ship can be a big help!
  11. Yes, there are many things that could jazz up the Holodeck room, but Paramount is somewhat limited by what their vendor, PeopleLink, can provide. I will let them know of the suggestions presented and ask them to keep them in mind if they decide to make any changes to their chat rooms. Thanks!
  12. ::looks around:: okay, who's been letting Garnoopy into the staff lounge ! ? Yes, it just so happens that the GMs have just started discussing the idea of mentors and/or greater documentation for the new Advanced sim player. I think that players in the Advanced sims will start seeing some of this starting up very sooon. Good observation, Garn.
  13. Why thank you, I agree....hmmm, on that first bit anyway {muttergrumblesigh} now I'm 67 and paling???? ugggh, I sound GROSS!!
  14. STSF is an offshoot of an AOL based Startrek Simming group called SFOL, which is itself in dissarray at the moment and struggling to reorganize. Even though there are many people involved in STSF who were or are still a part of SFOL, we are not an offshoot of that group (in fact, many here are also in yet other simming groups as well). STSF is a stand-alone entity and has no affiliation or connection with any other simming group or with America Online. Thanks. 15. Let me pose this question to our Paramount contact and I'll let you know if there is a solution offered (I had hoped the recent "work" on the room would have fixed this, but I see it didn't)
  16. Oh sure, NOW you try and take it all back!!!! Fred... Get 'im! (yes, I know it's all in jest)
  17. ::eyes narrow:: okay Fred, you better keep him happy on Reaent, because I won't be looking for him over on Manticore anytime soon. Hmmm, now that I think of it, make him miserable - then we could have some FUN!
  18. ... naaaah, that's just too easy. (so, let's review, shall we?? I'm bald, old, non-debonair and now cheesy?? Whadda resume!)
  19. Ahem, let's get back to the topic and off of the off-color expressions please. Thanks.
  20. I am very pleased to Welcome and Congratulate STSF_Dacotah. She has completed the GM training program and is the newest Gamemaster in STSF! Look for her name on the schedule soon in an Academy post near you. (By the way, don't worry about that bit where she had her ship fire on it's own Away Team the other night. I'm sure it won't happen again.... right?) Dac, CONGRATULATIONS!! Atragon-9Forum Leader - Star Trek™ Simulation Forum USS Manticore CO (Mon) Starfleet Academy XO (Wed)
  21. Well, what I do is to read the posts that were new from my last visit (the blue ST symbol at the Board name) and then, when I'm done, I will go back to the main screen for the Boards, scroll to the bottom and click the "Mark all topics as Old" link. This will set them all to be "read" by me and so the next time I come in, I'll know what I've read before and what I haven't. yes? no? Webmaster, am I doing this right?
  22. ALLRIGHT, ALLLLLLRIGHT!!!!! Jeesh! That's the last time I offer to let ANY of you sit on my lap!!! ::walks away, muttering::
  23. ::pulls out the well-worn PADD:: H - U - F... oh wait, she's already in here!
  24. If Cuban cigars are illegal, why do the finest humidors in the U.S. have a good supply??
