A haven to all species -- if they possess enough latinum, as 98% of all business are owned and operated by the Ferengi.
  2. =/\= MANTICORE BRIEFING #258, STARDATE 50305.19 =/\= The Manticore has reached the Special Ops deep space research and docking platform known as Maturin Station. Every year, the ship links up with Maturin for upgrades and new equipment. The entire crew waits with eagerness and fear for the latest technology to be installed onboard, even if it's not really ready to be in production yet. =/\= END MANTICORE BRIEFING #258, STARDATE 50305.19 =/\=
  3. ::Sitting in his Ready Room, looking out the window:: Gads, I'll never get used to Maturin Station. No matter how many times I see the monstrosity! ::Turns back to his desk and a reflection catches his eye and he fingers his collar, pausing for a moment:: Computer, Open Personal Log, Admiral Atragon-9, Commanding Officer, USS Manticore, NCC-5852, password ********* [whirr, click] I don't know where to start. Melville's legacy is gone, Megan's ghost is gone. Lincoln is gone. Proxima Centuri is gone!! ... and Melville LIVES??? Can it be true? I have to speak to CG Jaffe, I have to get the data they have. They better release all of their classified data to me about this project, Damn It! After all ::hand reaches up to his collar again:: they went ahead and made me an Admiral! There MUST be something in what I sent them that makes all the pieces fit together. I know that they've always wondered if I killed Melville or not and now my reality fits with the facts if they bring in the sleeve concept. He MUST be alive somewhere, he must have just used me to dispose of the original vessel and nail my career dead once and for all. Why else would the promote me now? ::sigh:: Sometimes I hate working for Black Ops. The PADD is your friend, Trust no one, keep your phaser handy - I used to wonder about that joke slogan. Not anymore. Well, time to get the ship restocked and see what new goodies they have for us - we really ARE the kids in the candy store when we get to Maturin. I better make sure the crew doesn't go TOO crazy. Computer, EOM, EOT [whirr, click]
  4. Well, DUH! With your destructive reputation, who in their right mind WOULD let you near the controls of a... oh, you're Moose's XO. Hmm, okay, then I guess I was wrong... oh wait, I said "in their right mind." Right, yup, I stand by that.
  5. Well, okay - I only have one thing to say about Manticore... last week, we blew up a planet. We didn't destroy a building or a city or poisoned an atmosphere - we BLEW UP A PLANET. Thank you, that is all.
  6. Yes, we've been waiting for the "extension" to be completed here in the DC area for years. It will actually be an annex of Dulles International Airport, not National (National is right across the river from DC and there's no room, Dulles is about 20 minutes away and there's LOTS of space). If anyone is in town before then and wants to see a COOL tour - they should go to the Paul Garber Facility in Silver Hill, MD. This is the NASM's "attic" with acres and acres of warehouses filled to the brim with aircraft and spacecraft that isn't on current display. That's where the Enola Gay is housed now, it's where you can see them working on restoration projects (WWII Bombers, etc.) You need to make an appointment for a tour ahead of time, but it's well worth it for air and space nuts!
  7. ::Sitting in his Ready Room, finishing his report to Consul General Jaffe about their mission to Proxima Centuri and the Lincoln Outpost:: ... so you can see, from the collected internal sensor data and the analysis from Science and Medical on the LSDS swarm on the planet we ::pauses:: I had no choice but to destroy the Planet and the evil that had spawned there. This is why you gave Manticore the Planet Killer and why you gave me the Manticore. I always wonder if I truly have such a superficial personality that these sorts of moral downpours just roll off me - most of the time. Actually, this time it was not a problem for me. I was able to come back to a piece of my history, close a chapter. I feel so much better finding a last note from Megan, being able to tell myself that she's gone now, Really gone. ::pauses:: But that's okay now - I really think it is. Ohhh, ooops, I'll edit this bit out of the report. Ahem - Consul General, I now direct you to the data references to what looks like completion of the old "Altered Carbon" project. Please note the way the Lincoln research seems to be directly applicable to it, how Melville took personal control of all research, how it accelerated as his own health problems increased. All the pieces are there, Madam Consul. I request permission to seek out more information, follow the trail. I have to know if he's still "alive" - still his old evil self, in a new body/sleeve. This would also lend more credence to my conviction that he killed himself on my knife - he had already done a needlecast download, he was about to "rise" in a new sleeve. Damn it, it all fits! Excuse me, ma'am - I didn't mean to get so emotional. Our warp drive will soon be operational following the deploying of the PK, but we will need to get a restock from Matarin Station. I'll submit my formal request for that next. I can't remember how many of my current crew has even seen Matarin - it's always fun to watch their reaction. Well, that's it for the report on Proxima Centuri and the Lincoln Mission. Submitted by Commodore Atragon-9, Commanding Officer, USS Manticore, on Stardate 50305.09 EOM, EOT {whirr, click}
  8. =/\= MANTICORE BRIEFING #257, STARDATE 50305.12 =/\= The Manticore has just pulverized Proxima Centuri in order to destroy a nanotechnology-based "viral" swarm that is deadly to all organic life. The use of the classified Planet Killer ordnance so close to the planet has put considerable strain on the ship's systems. The dual Warp cores are being repaired by Engineering and many bruises and lacerations are being repaired by Medical. As for the psychic wounds of witnessing a planet's destruction, the crew will have to mend itself, with the aid of Counselor Crito. =/\= END MANTICORE BRIEFING #257, STARDATE 50305.12 =/\=
  9. That's no way to talk about Atragon! :) LOL ::pulls out the PADD again...:: H-y-p-e-r...
  10. But my mural is almost complete!!!
  11. Naaaah, just follow Martha Stewart's lead and wear the mis-matched socks deliberately, proudly, start a new trend! Then, when the hiding socks realize you don't care, realize that they are not being missed, they will willingly show themselves in their plea to be taken back and forgiven!! Trust me, this works - how often do you try to recall an event or fact or person and fail miserably - then, after you move on to something else, the memory pops into your head all by itself! It stopped hiding, since you weren't looking for it anymore.
  12. Yes, they are, especially if you marinate them overnight before cooking. {It's a joke, A JOKE!!!}
  13. HyperDrive: Woo hoo! Thanks,Webbie. Garnoopy: Yay! Three cheers for the Webby! Yvon Hawke: ::does a happy dance jig:: Okay, you guys have REALLY gotta get out of the basement more.
  14. =/\= MANTICORE BRIEFING #256, STARDATE 50305.05 =/\= The Manticore is in orbit around Proxima Centuri, above the Former Lincoln Outpost. Lincoln was quarantined 10 years ago, after a staged Black Ops "attack by the Romulans" by the USS Aries, with a young Atragon-9 as the XO. A landing party returned with data from the outpost and a mutated version of the bio-agent that killed all of the outpost's staff, that has been named LSDS, for Lincoln Sodium Depletion Syndrome. There are theories that this is related to an entity encountered a century ago by the Enterprise, NCC-1701 and another thinking that this is some sort of swarm of nano-tech devices. No matter what it is, the ship may soon succumb to it. =/\= END MANTICORE BRIEFING #256, STARDATE 50305.05 =/\=

A landing party returned with data from the outpost and a mutated version of the bio-agent that killed all of the outpost's staff. Two crewmen have died from familiar symptoms, 4 decks apart, even after quarantining both the landing party and a large "clump" of the virus. Dr. Mele has named our enemy, LSDS for Lincoln Sodium Depletion Syndrome.   19. ::sitting in Sickbay, he presses a button on the arm casing of his exo:: Suit Recorder On, Personal Log, Atragon-9, Commanding Officer, USS Manticore, NCC-5852, password ********* {whirr, click} Melville... he plagues me from beyond the grave still! At first, we have been quarantined in the Sickbay because the virus/agent came back from the surface with us and we didn't want to infect the rest of the ship. Now, the alien thing is out there and NOT in here, so it's become a safe haven From the virus. Still I feel so helpless here. And who directed the development of this agent? This thing that has run unchecked on the planet's surface for 10 years? this entity that we tried to destroy a decade ago with the Aries? This Evil that has now attacked my ship !!! ?? MELVILLE Having little to do in directing the efforts out on the decks, I dug deeper into Melville's private files that had survived the attack - hmm, they were among Megan's office materials, too - why was that? Did he put them there? Did she collect them from him? Is that where they were always stored?? No, no, stay on track here, sheesh. So, I was reading his papers and realized that he had been dying slowly for over 10 years. He knew of it back then, on Proxima Centuri, and it was part of what was driving his research. What I never knew is that he seems to have perfected the process, the procedure. He spoke as if he was about to test it on himself! Frak!! Did he really do it? Did he install the cortical stack in his own skull? Did he develop the needlecast technology for updates? Did he find himself a new Sleeve!!? That last part is easy, unfortunately, he could find any number of bodies, fresh bodies, and keep them on ice for the "just in case." But if that is true, then is he really plaguing me from beyond the grave or just beyond the body? Is he, in many senses of the word, still alive, but just not in the same... skin??? Alright, alright, first we have to defeat his creation - or what his creation has become, here on the ship. All of my wondering and guessing about Melville won't matter if the ship becomes the Fleet's Flying Dutchman. Yet I'm stuck in here, what can I do from Sickbay besides annoy the Medical staff??? ::heavy sigh:: I'm going stir crazy, that's for sure! ::flings an empty tray across the room with his TK:: gaaaaach Suit Recorder off, EOM, EOT {whirr, click}
  20. No problem, Lightning. I hurried over with my keys and opened up the place for ya. Then again, I couldn't stay the whole night so I let the regulars stay there on their own. They PROMISED that they wouldn't wreck the place or drink TOO MUCH of your stock. So, uhhh, it should be fine. Yeah, that's the ticket, it will be just Fine!
  21. ::starts to tap dance in, looks up at the looks of horror on everyone's face:: What!? You were expecting someone else?? HAPPY BIRTHDAY, FRED ::gives him "the look"::
  22. yeah, rhymes with Toad, that's what I figured.
  23. Hmm, okay, You, threaten her with the stiletto heels to move her this way. You, lure her closer with the donuts. Then, I'll hit her with my walker!
  24. Oh, I definitely see you, Dumbass, as Moe! WhyIOughtta...
  25. You mean "Atragon", the 1960's Japanese Science Fiction movie about a disgraced WWII submarine commander and crew (who ran from a battle rather than die, hence the disgrace) who went off to a secret island and worked on developing their submarine into an amazing fighting machine so that they could redeem themselves? And the world (i.e. Tokyo), now threatened by the people of the underwater society of Mü, with no one to save the surface people from this threat except... Atragon! (which has now become a flying submarine with a huge spinning drill bit on the front of it)? It was playing on television in the NYC area and I recall reading the NY Times television page that day and the entire description of the movie was, "Nice models." Naah, no story behind the name at all! (or were you referring to the "9"?)
