  6. Hey there, Welcome to the forum.
  7. "The Ballet" Stardate 0710.03 It was a ballet that neither side had actually been prepared for. The moves, graceful and determined, had not been planned out days earlier. Atmosphere, setting and props had not been designed beforehand. Scripts had not been written, casting not performed. In fact, the entire encounter hadn't even been scheduled. No appointments had been made, no planning meetings held. Instead, pure improv had become the name of the game. It was a skill both were desperate to become proficient at...quickly. Thus far, both had managed to out maneuver the other unexpectedly. Their attempts to score points were successful. The match, appearing uneven by skill level, was in fact balanced by most standards. Reviews and critics would eventually come to call the tactics a "desperate attempt to keep from falling behind." In some ways, they would be correct. Yet most would agree that sometimes under pressure, one performs beyond their wildest expectations. The outcome uncertain, both knew what would happen if this delicate balance was upset. To fall out of line would lead to certain disaster and long term...issues. The issues themselves were an interesting point alone. This was a ballet that no spectators had been invited to witness, no seats sold at the local stands. Publicly, the event was not to become known until it was over. As with all competitions, the news headlines would declare the victor...in addition to announcing the fact the match had taken place. The judging would then commence, the critics and pundits would get their say. Everyone would have a chance to chime in. Everyone that is, except the loser. The story and competition half a decade in making was nearing conclusion. The delicate, almost choreographed, moves of the participants would soon come to an end. It was a match neither had actually expected, but secretly knew would eventually come. Everyone had known the end, when it came, would not be quick. No one thought the competition would be easy. Yet, surprisingly, both were shocked by their present situation. One, aged and experienced, sat against another of equal stature. Neither had known they would end up where they were. One sat silent. One sat searching. And another was about to bring the entire thing to a close faster than anyone could have expected. Only one question remained: Who would the headlines be about?
  8. Hey there, Four score and over a decade ago....you would find a player named Fred on a game called Odyssey or Hood that was such a noobie, it wasn't even funny. Couldn't write a log, could barely follow what was going on.... Don't worry about those things! Worry about having a good time and the rest will come. It always does.
  9. Okay....which group? :) Personally, I think it is a good idea. Memory Alpha is an amazing resource but it doesn't have roleplaying in mind. For example, it might tell you when a hypospray appeared but not specifically "when" it is appropriate to use one.
  10. Hey there, Not exactly certain why but I have not received anything.... :)
  11. Hey there, Presently, I do not have any applications that are pending. Therefore, resend your application and we'll get you assigned as soon as possible. :)

  13. Hey there, After careful review.... Both. :)
  14. Hey there all, Due to circumstances beyond anyone's control, there is a current hold on the processing of all applications, assignments and graduations. Furthermore, in the event you have a pending application that was sent in and have failed to receive a response, you will need to resend it to the personnel department once this situation has passed. Please watch this space for more information and updates.
  15. Hey there, In the event you have submitted an application, or recently graduated but failed to receive an application, please resubmit your requests to [email protected] at this time. GMs are also asked to resubmit appropriate material. It is hoped to have any backlog cleared by Sunday afternoon. Thank you in advance for your consideration!
  16. Hey there, I figured I might put my digital camera to use and post the first photos from what is going on this weekend. :)
  17. Hey there, There is a very good article on SFOL that can be found over at the Simming Encyclopedia. I'd suggest looking at the following articles for more information: Spacefleet Online - SimEnc Star Trek Simulation Forum - SimEnc Timeline of Simming: 2002-2004 From these two articles you can get some details about a few of the sims within STSF itself.
  18. Hey there, Youngling.... :) Normally there isn't anything special per say, though often sims may take some time out to do something individually. :)
  19. Hey there, While there are positives, let us not forget the negatives. Germany is also facing massive issues with employment concerns, where the practice of forcing retirement at 50 has become common in several industries to "make room" for younger workers. In addition, unemployment sits at about 7%. Due to social programs that the country is starting to have issues affording, at one point over 3/4 of every dollar earned went to the the government. On the other side, Japan's economy is starting to show signs of issues with cultural "employed for life" views clashing with modern day (or lack of) business ethics. And dealing with the assertion that the people know best, that gets back to the entire concept of the great "American" experiment. It is a Western view because honestly...this is where it was invented. At the core, this issue is...essentially...the basis for most modern conflicts.
  20. Hey there all, Just a notice that due to celebration and travel of many players for Independence Day within the United States (Wednesday, 4/July), the U.S.S. Reaent will not be simming this coming Thursday. Games will resume on Thursday, the 12th. :)
  21. At 12:23am I am bound to forget something. :)
  22. Hey there, A good recommendation as well is to read the FAQ located under the Help section of the website. It has quite a bit of information that you might find helpful. :) STSF.NET: Frequently Asked Questions
  23. Hey there, Welcome to the forum! I hope your stay is a long and enjoyable one. :)
  24. Hey there, Each piece of equipment on the network must have a unique identification number (aka: street address) for the proper "trafficking" of data. Now, if what you are saying is correct and the router and laptop both have the same IP, essentially your "mini-network" has the following problem: Mail is going to 3333 N.W. 3rd Street but no one knows for sure who it is for. Thus, slows down network performance and in the case of larger networks can simply result in no connectivity. Just to make sure, click on Start, type in cmd, press enter. Type in the command ipconfig and press enter. Results should appear something like this: IP Address..........192.168.1.2 Subnet Mask:......255.255.0.0 Default Gateway..192.168.1.1 If the IP address that is listed on the first line is the same as your router (in many cases, IP Address = Default Gateway), you indeed have two pieces of equipment sharing the same address. You may want to consider turning your router off, then back on after about 5/10 seconds. Then, try the following and see if this fixes the problem (may or may not depending on router settings). Click on Start, type cmd, press enter. Type in the command ipconfig /release and press enter. After the computer is finished (don't worry about any errors Windows generates), type in the command ipconfig /renew and press enter. This will tell Windows to "drop" the current address it has and then attempt to "lease" a new one from the router.
  25. Hey there, Welcome to STSF! I hope your stay is a long and enjoyable one. :)
