  1. Hey there, Also, please be aware that the U.S.S. Reaent will not be running on the 7th of May.
  2. Aren't you dead yet?
  3. Hey there, Thank you all. Though I thought all janitors were still fired....
  4. Hey there, I know Reaent will not be simming on the 7th of May because of it. ;)
  5. Captain's Assessment Captain's Personal Log Stardate 0904.24 The last of the those claiming to be the missing had entered a turbolift. The transporter room was, now, empty. Normally the transporter chief would have remained on duty, but the engineer had other duties to attend to. After all, they had already been down to half a roster only to have another half of that vanish into thin air. The Reaent had in fact taken some major blows from the Romulans after their unexpected return to the Beta Quadrant. Yet good timing had allowed them to prevail. Or had it? In the midst of the initial processing of those aboard lifepods, several reports had been handed to Michaels. What they said made no sense but were the only facts available. First, what few science officers they had were able to confirm the wreckage sitting one hundred thousand kilometers off the starboard bow was that of a Federation starship. Fact. Second, the wreckage had markings that were suggesting the ship had the name Reaent. Fact. Third, what might be a log buoy had been detected floating near a debris field that clearly looked like the his ship's engineering hull. Fact. Fourth, Fleet Captain Steven Galen from Task Force 8 had indicated receipt of a distress call from the Reaent transmitted with all the proper identification codes and security frequencies about one hour earlier. Fact. Fifth, Task Force 8 had also detected evidence of a massive firefight and multiple detonations consistent with "the destruction of more than one starship of heavy cruiser size." Fact. Sixth, the Reaent currently had twenty-three escape pods sitting in cargo bays and on the fighter deck. They bore markings showing they were from his ship, had time stamps and computer logs to match. The problem was that these lifepods were also still sitting in their berths, showing no records and computer logs backing up the counts. Fact. And perhaps most importantly, the ninety or so officers who had simply vanished into thin air less than thirty minutes ago were the people they had just beamed aboard sitting in the lifepods that were but couldn't be from the Reaent. This left just one simple question: What in the hell was going on?
  6. Salvation & Redemption In the past, salvation had always come. Even in the darkest of days, life had always found a way to move on. To the casual observer, if such a thing really existed, the scene was a simple one. A life, no longer with a mission but only a singular purpose, was struggling. The goal could not be questioned, she simply had to accomplish it. After all, not? Even in the darkest of hours, a frantic plea into the abyss had brought redemption. It could happen again, as it had so many times in the past. At least, that was the hope and prayer. The reality was looking very different. The reality was taking its toll. To make it just one more moment, surviving for just the next second, is all it was about now. Everything else was a luxury. The hold onto and grasp life was fundamental. To watch it slip away was something nightmares were made of. Even as the effort was made, if the patient had been in a medical bay, the futility of=2 0the act would be clear. The path had been chosen, the outcome all but assured. Salvation would come but not in a way that featured a happy ending. Thirty seconds after the evacuation alarm had sounded, the starship bearing the name Reaent was a fraction of her former self. The fight for life within was monumental. She herself was struggling, and losing, as those around continued to push them all towards the abyss. As records would show, externally the ship was blaze of metallic blood. What remained of the starboard warp nacelle slowly vented plasma thru ruptured conduits. The other leg used for moving into faster than light speeds was dark, half of it simply missing and transformed into small chunks of debris. The lower decks of the drive section were also on fire. Plasma poured thru open hatches, ruptures and other breaches that almost made it look like she was walking on fire. The navigational deflector was still illuminated, narrowly missing the impact from two torpedoes that had sliced in from above. The rear section of the secondary drive where one would have found the impulse engines were instead greeted by a void. Such had been the result when Impulse Fusion Reactor Four had taken a direct impact from a disruptor. The resulting cascading explosion had ripped away over three percent of the ship’s hull. All that now remained was twisted metal, tritanium and the remains of thirty souls. For reasons that would actually be debated later, the illumination still declared brightly her name on the primary hull. The registry and all related information were still proclaimed, as it had been through all her previous missions. Absent was what had been the first four decks, now a void that left little debris to even indicate the ship’s nerve center had ever even existed. Fires ranged on the outside, windows darkened by an absence of power were instead illuminated by a glow of horror. The occasional firing of a thruster was the only sign of any real activity from this time, a futile attempt she was making herself to flee to a private place. Inside, the true horror of modern reality could be counted. When they had met their early return to the Beta Quadrant, approximately three hundred souls were capable of performing their jobs. Fifty had been released from medical over the previous weeks, with nearly another forty still under care. In total, over one hundred and seventy persons had seen their existence cut short. The number only dropped once they had returned home. When the starboard warp nacelle had been hit, a secondary explosion deep inside the ship had gone unnoticed at first. In the twenty seconds it had taken for her to alert the crew, the Reaent had ruptured a plasma conduit on the lower de cks of the drive section. Fifty people, mostly engineers, had been instantly vaporized when rupture filled three decks. The impulse engines had taken their lives as well, leaving another twenty souls catastrophically injured. Records would show a group of three desperately attempting to cut thru a bulkhead until recorded stopped. None of the twenty would survive. When one of several torpedoes reopened old wounds, one had sent shock waves throughout her very heart. Forty souls, mostly injured, had been killed instantly when half of the main sickbay was turned into a wreck. Another twenty had been killed in the surrounding areas due to automated airlock procedures designed to prevent a catastrophic hull breach. Surprisingly, no fatalities had been recorded in engineering itself. While there were thirty people seriously hurt, none were at the edge. Five had died on the fourth deck. Three had died on the bridge. By the time the first escape pod successfully engaged its engine, less than one quarter of her crew was still capable of performing their jobs. One minute after the evacuation order, thirty escape pods had launched. Three had been destroyed. Then, salvation and redemption met. 16:16:50 – ADS Grid Reference Check. 16:16:54 – ADS Integrity Update Failure. 16:17:00 – Marker Firing. 16:17:01 – ADS Engaged. Three torpedoes impacted as her containment system locked. The internal explosions had started half a second before, starting a chain of antimatter charges never intended to actually be used. Continued external firings expedited certain aspects, but the result was the same. In all, thirty-two people including those near the impulse engines had been unable to evacuate. Two escape pods had been vaporized in the resulting blasts. The toll was large. Of three hundred and forty that had arrived back in the Beta Quadrant, two hundred and thirty were no more. Of the over five hundred that had been assigned to the starship Reaent, eighty percent were…
  7. Hey there, I don't know how many people have yet seen the latest trailer for the upcoming Star Trek movie that was released Thursday (and is attached to the Watchman movie), but...honestly, I think it could classify as the best trailer in the entire history of the franchise. I am shocked to say it, but after seeing this thing (for 12+ times), I am more excited about this film than I have been in a very, very, very long time! In case you haven't seen it....click on Trailer 3 on the link below. Of course it is also at www.startrekmovie.com. http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/startrek/index.html
  8. Hey there, I would want to miss it...I've tried several times. However, the plane just seems to get redirected and I end up going. Stupid pilots...
  9. Personal Log, Stardate 0903.08 Captain Fred Michaels Recording U.S.S. Reaent, NCC-3345-G The damage has been done. What is worse is that I am beginning to question the futility of the entire endeavor. So focused on the mission that the ramifications of staying the course are growing too fast to comprehend. In the end, the concept is turning into a joke. Despite Doctor Matthews' and her band of mercenaries best attempts to keep me out of the loop since my bump on the head, it isn't too difficult to keep current on what is happening aboard my own ship. The medical staff is just trying to do their job, I know that and they are nothing but professionals for it. What they have been thru during this mission, and the fact they still report for duty the next day, is a testament to their character. The ship's last encounter with what everyone seems to believe were the Boganary only added further insult to the already injured Reaent. The engineers had done a quality job keeping her running but flat out couldn't really prepare things for another armed conflict. The holes in the hull are still there. The vaporized systems or melted metal has not magically been replaced. And it was all for what... According to the last report I have seen, the ship is down to a functional crew below 40%. For every four people still capable of doing their jobs, six are either dead or too hurt to do so. This isn't even looking at the physical mechanical issues we continue to have. She's done well, thanks to the engineers. Yet a good placed torpedo would probably put us over the edge...and it is still a month until Camelot Station. Even once we arrive home, what does the future hold? Half of the weapon systems are destroyed beyond repair. About ten to fifteen percent of the hull no longer exists, with engineering now spending large parts of the day trying to seal microfractures that have appeared. Some decks remain mostly uninhabitable, a situation that can't be rectified here. The power grid looks more like a Christmas tree and the long term damage I led engineering thru will also have long term consequences. In the past seven years, the Reaent has been thru so much that I honestly question what more can she take?
  10. U.S.S. Reaent Mission Briefing Stardate 0903.05 The Reaent is headed to Camelot Station, quite a bit of a journey away. Two weeks have passed since the ship successfully mined the Gamma Quadrant end of the Romulan wormhole. In the meantime, the ship's database(s) have been updated with information transferred from the Excalibur. In addition, questions linger in the minds of some about whether or not the ship is in good enough shape to be able to sustain speed for another month and a half. Database Updates: The area established to be the exit point of the Romulan wormhole, as well as the location of the battle involving the Reaent and Excalibur, is 'geometrically' below the explored regions of Dominion space. Most of the immediate sectors are controlled by a group known as the Cult of Iyves. Other species that also move throughout the trade routes includes a raider group known as the Boganary. At the edge of territory controlled by the Cult of Iyves is the planet HaVorante. According to records provided by the Excalibur, it is believed this planet is home to the race that were used as the basis for the 'modern day' Vorta. Despite their genetically modified offspring, the planet was not a happy member of the Dominion itself. It is located approximately one month's travel from Camelot Station at maximum warp (1.5 given the Reaent's current condition). Current Course: The projected course recommended by the Excalibur has the Reaent moving on the edge of Cult of Iyves claimed territory and narrowly intersecting known Boganary grounds. Satarami: An ancient race possibly dating back to the era of the Iconians in the Alpha Quadrant. They are long-eared, blue-skinned humanoids once controlling a large empire that would rival the modern day Dominion or all claimed Alpha Quadrant territory. Secretive and mildly Xenophobic, these extremely powerful telepaths are reported to rarely show themselves. Boganary: These are short, green creatures, are defined as crude, vicious and primitive. This being said, records show they should not be underestimated. They are considered cunning and creative, utilize a pack-like structure lead by a single female "auntie." This species are made up completely of raiders. They live for pranking and capturing vessels. Their technology varies depending on what they have been able to capture, similiar to the Pakled of the Alpha Quadrant. They have shown a strong ability to integrate components from various races together to make functional systems. Warnings show their vessels should never be approached lightly as they seem to store many weapon systems as possible. Cult of Iyves: This is a secretive group who control a large area of the space formerly belonging to the Satarimi. They cycle between active and dormant periods. Their technology is very advanced, with ships moving in packs of small raiders attached to a larger starship. Their primary activities involve capturing various aliens thru the use of highly sophisticated transporter technology. Reports indicate captured victims have blood drained for use ini scientific and possibly sacrificial rituals. Starships of this grup are sleek and very functional in design. Their weaponry is comparable to those aboard Federation vessels, though they have shown the ability to use directed transporter technology to forcibly beam through shields. Military personnel dress in a white armor and wear masks to conceal their faces. Deep appreciation to Captain Corizon for helping with much of the above information.
  11. Hey there, CBS has confirmed that Star Trek: The Experience is indeed coming back this may! http://trekmovie.com/2009/02/26/cbs-confir...te-documentary/
  12. Hey there, What is scary is the real irony I will have, saying everything works out, heading back to Hunt Valley. Unlike some, I haven't been back there since that fateful weekend in July 2002. For all of us to be back, there, seven years later? Wow...just...wow. As for Goldilocks, I reserve the right to taser his....locks. I almost had to go into counseling because of that incident!
  13. Captain's Log Captain Fred Michaels Stardate 0901.22 U.S.S. Reaent, NCC-3345-G The Reaent remains in position awaiting an eventual relocation to the Gamma Quadrant side of the Romulan wormhole. Once an ample supply of mines have been generated to begin the project, we will move into position and start the deployment. Starfleet records show that it took several days for the U.S.S. Defiant to successfully mine the Bajoran wormhole in the early days of the Dominion War. My hope is that since this phenonoma is smaller, the process will be quicker so we can begin the journey to Camelot Station. One positive news is a report that our computer systems have been successfully realigned to utilize the subspace bouy system deployed for Starfleet vessels in the Gamma Quadrant. While seeming minor, this does once again allow moderate communication with the rest of the Federation. In addition, we will be able to continue to get updates on our journey to Camelot itself. I have only started reading the file Captain Corizon provided, but it does appear our journey should be uneventful.
  14. Captain’s Log Stardate 0812.28 U.S.S. Reaent, NCC-3345-G It has been several hours since our engagement with the Romulans ended. The fact that we are alive is something my ship owes to luck and the crew of the Excalibur. Their timely arrival is the only thing that kept us from all turning into dust and floating around the cosmos for eternity. While their assistance has been a welcomed one, things have not improved that much. The Reaent still sits without resolution to this Romulan wormhole we discovered. The fact they sent ships in after us means they know it is stable, know where it goes and are not afraid to use it. Question remaining is exactly which faction of the Romulan military are we dealing with? Is this one loyal to the new government or one of the many fringe groups intelligence reports keep suggesting now exist. What’s more, what do we do about it? When we came thru, there were six warbirds in the Beta Quadrant. How many are left? Where are they? Can we even still get to the remains of the Proxima if we wanted to? Our current condition makes me question how effective we can be. Even with the efforts of the Excalibur’s crew, the Reaent remains nothing less than an utter disaster. While engineering has been able to restore partial main power and perhaps warp drive, our hull looks more like cheese than anything else. Looking at some reports myself, I’m not certain if we’ll ever get the starboard shields online again regardless of what Mr. Scherer tells me. This isn’t even talking about the fried power grids and other subsystems keeping our weapons from firing. On top of it all, the only fighters left in the hanger are the two untested medium units that are designed for tactical runs not ship defense. For all that can be repaired, there is much more that can’t. Doctor Matthews has reported over two hundred persons sitting in medical facilities or...who are no longer with us. This essentially means that half the crew is out of commission, out even though we likely have another shooting match coming up. I am starting to question whether or not there is any possibility of success here. Even if there is, how many of my crew will be alive to talk about it when all is said and done?
  15. Hey there, Since it did kind of relate to the original topic of this thread, the new website of the Reaent has just gone up.... http://www.ussreaent.com Same address but much different FTP space. :o
  16. Hey there, Today marked the start of the marketing campaign for the upcoming Star Trek movie coming out in May 2009. In addition to the below, there are reports the movie's full trailer may be attached to the upcoming James Bond movie due to be released next month. As you look thru some of the links and the like, one interesting note: 75% of all FX shots are complete and the movie is actually on schedule to be "locked" by the middle of December. Click on each image for the article relating to it, some giving some clues about what you are actually looking at. Last warning.... The Crew... The Villian...Nero Kirk...And A Pod. Don't Tick Off Spock... Oh Yes, That's The Bridge... The U.S.S. Kelvin (pre-dates the Enterprise, see article for a link with more details)
  17. Hey all, Now that the HD version of the new trailer for the upcoming Star Trek movie is online, I took some screen captures some might enjoy. Click to enlarge. Please note.....MAJOR SPOILER WARNINGS here. The trailer itself, including the HD version, can be found thru www.startrekmovie.com or directly at www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/startrek/index.html. 18. Hey there, Apparently, they have finally released the first concept image for what the new U.S.S. Enterprise looks like in the upcoming film. Below is text from the original article at EW Online: Last warning....
  19. Hey there, First... YOU HAVE NO EVIDENCE!!! :P Second, you would be surprised for how many people the time a sim takes place is the major problem. Go figure. Third, the website you reference is intended more as a global thing. The issue you run into is that it isn't really designed to be a mixture of an IC and OOC encyclopedia of information, it looks at stuff from a "real world" perspective. As I believe LoAmi has shown with the Arcadia Wiki and several other sites that just have "encyclopedias" on their websites, content is out there and could be useful. Regretfully, large amounts of history from many of our sims was lost forever when a certain Keyword was pulled down. That being said, having an avenue to create an article about Planet Q and what happened when the U.S.S. Hood visited it in the Stardate version of 1997 might be neat. Heck, I think one possibility would be (saying it was anywhere close to remotely current) is the ability for sims to add on to different things others have done. Anyway, my few cents. :(
  20. Hey there, I think it would be very good for many people to go back and watch the trailers for Star Trek II, Star Trek III, Star Trek V, Star Trek VI and Star Trek: First Contact. If you look at those trailers (especially the later ones that are more representative of modern day Hollywood's marketing formula), you'll see the trailers often focus a lot of action. Heck, from the trailer, Star Trek V looked like it could really be a good movie....never mind all the strikes that were going on in Hollywood at the time that seemed to murder it. My point is I think people have lost some perspective. It has been said this movie is for fans, but it is also for those who are not fans. The reality is that it has to be. Without new people becoming interested in the franchise, it is doomed to die.
  21. Hey there, I know I had a lot of the Reaent's and Aegis' website files stored on AOL servers. I'm actually taking the opportunity of the need to move to completely revamp the sites. Neither design has really changed in 5+ years so I figured why not. That being said, for an extended period of time I have been using Flash as a major component of the sites. It has become more and more popular in some arenas. Of course, it isn't required and there is still a large amount of JavaScript coding that can do the same thing (especially for button effects). As far as a Wiki goes, I know that has been discussed previously. While I personally would love to see one, knowing full well the database of entries that could be created just for Reaent and Aegis would run well beyond five hundred, it does take work to setup. In addition, Wikis have a horrible issue with spamming. That being said, I do remember asking our wonderful Webmaster a few years ago about if there was a method to link the usernames from the message boards/chatroom to the Wiki login system. Regretfully, the answer was no. So that being said, even if we had one, for security purposes we would probably have to individually grant people an account to use it in order to keep it from being abused. Personally, since over 85% of STSF's sims are over ten years of age or older, I think you could probably create a good encyclopedia of information. The issues would be with organization.
  22. Hey there all, Posting a followup article that includes quotes from Rick Sternbach and the new designer of the Enterprise we'll see in the film, Ryan Church: From TrekMovie.com: Big Reaction to New Enterprise - New Designer Responds This and the many other comments got the notice of the designer of the new Enterprise, Ryan Church, who has worked on the Star Wars prequels, the Transformers movies and the new James Cameron film Avatar. Church wrote in the TrekMovie comments: Sternbach replied back, noting that he has since had a chance to see a new angle of the Enterprise (lucky Rick!) Which all just goes to show you that even the pros can take different views and even modify their views, especially when given more information. So far we have only two views of the new Enterprise and we have yet to see it in motion, that is worth considering. .... The new image released this week of the USS Enterprise is not a shot from the trailer. The Enterprise is seen clearly in the trailer being constructed and also going to warp. It may also be seen briefly in some of the quick cut battle scenes, but the specific shot released yesterday from Paramount is from a different point in the film.
  23. Hey there, There is a report out saying that CBS might not have been kidding when they said they were looking to keep Star Trek: The Experience open. See below... From: TrekMovie.com
  24. Hey there, Well, I'll go with this. Leonard Nimoy refused to be a part of Star Trek: Generations because he viewed it as horrible. The man has directed many Star Trek films and if anyone could be considered the "moral voice" of the franchise I would say him. That being said, he agreed to come out of acting retirement to do this film. I think that says a lot. The man doesn't need the money, doesn't need additional fame and was enjoying life handling his photography. He has had nothing but good things to say about the script, actors, etc. So...if Leonard Nimoy seems to think that the film will be good enough for him to be in it...and almost every "sneak peak reviewer" that has viewed it says "it works and stands side-by-side with the Trek that has come before," I'll be optimistic. Anything that doesn't have Berman and Braga involved is a good thing. Star Trek: Enterprise started showing life in Season 4, but by that stage Manny Coto was literally running things and the damage was done.
  25. Hey there, Some general thoughts again. :P First, McCoy and Scotty were older by the time we saw them in TOS. One thing that never was established all that clearly is exactly "when" that crew got aboard the NCC-1701. I mean, even Chekov, it has always been implied that he "arrived fresh from the Academy" in Season 2. However, I don't believe there actually is anything to support the statement. The character could easily have been working the night shift during Season 1. We know general "ages" of the characters, but that is it. As far as the design of the U.S.S. Kelvin goes, I'll tell you honestly...it freaks me out. Why? The design is 95% what the original design of the Reaent was back in 1995 (seriously, I am not joking and have the graphics to prove it). Overall, the film is going to have to update the technology. Honestly, I don't have a problem with seeing an NCC-1701 that has modern CGI. No the hull might not be "smooth" by design, but when you think about it that seems to have been due more to 1960s technology vs original concept. No other ship seen in the entire franchise has had a "smooth hull," so I think we're going to have to give them some room there. As far as the bridge goes, again, they have to update it. This is supposed to look like something occurring 200 years from now, you don't want the audience going "They are still using bright orange buttons?!?" when we'll probably be using completely touchscreen keyboards / interfaces within 20 years or less.
