  1. File 197-804FB6 Emergency power re-animated this unit once life forms were detected on board cube 1087-56C. I had been keeping myself in a suspended state up until now to reserve the little power we have left. The life forms that boarded were mostly unremarkable, except for one specimen from species 1637. Her designation was Hayden Dacotah. I sent communications out on several frequencies for which her species was known to be sensitive. Her mind is not as guarded as others of her race. Her sensitivity to the thoughts and suggestions of others allowed her to hear me, and my promise to help her control those voices kept her with me. She mentioned previous contact with the Borg, but I can not spare the power to access our data files for a cross-reference tag. Whether her trauma came from us or from others is irrelevant. She is a suitable candidate. She expressed a desire to help her companions in their mission, and I have allocated all of our power reserves to that task. The life forms have provided far better proof of our mission than I could have arranged on my own. Their actions were haphazard and chaotic, even when in agreement on their task. Their petty disagreements and bickering, their confusion due to different experiences and points of view, these all highlighted their lack of order. She had no implants, so I granted her access to an external neural amplifier. She first used it to provide data to them in response to their queries. From there, it was a simple step to using our equipment to guide their actions. Yet they still resisted, and were unsuccessful even though she laid the answers down in front of them. She is awash in data, trying to provide them with as much information as she can. But it will prove to be too much for them to process. She will soon see that the only way to help them is to think for them. Only one mind can be allowed to choose, to interpret. Only one mind can unify disparate life forms and coordinate them in harmony. Only one mind can bind them into a force stronger than its parts. She is on the verge of accepting this decision for herself. Once she does, she will be ready to accept the implant from me. After that, I can allow my present biological material to expire, knowing that the collective will still function. I estimate it will do better than that. The collective will thrive. Commit data.
  2. To join in an academy, all you need to do is show up. There is a schedule link at the top of this page that will let you know what time to come. Announcements will be made as to who is assigning posts. Tell them you want to play and you're in. You may play in the academy as many times as you want on any night you choose to come. The academy games take one hour to play, and new positions are assigned in each game. Once the hosts are satisfied that you're comfortable with the rules and conventions of the forum, you will graduate and be invited to attend one of the "Advanced" games. Advanced games meet at the same time every week, have continuing stories, and you are assigned a permanent post. It can take several academy sessions before you "graduate" to the Advanced sims. Don't get discouraged, just hang in there and keep playing. Good luck. : )
  3. There are other forums??? Who's idea was that? ;-)
  4. Hmmm.... a drunk chainsmoker or a man in bad drag. I think there's a little more essence around here than that. Especially during musk season.
  5. In Chicago, they rerun Enterprise at 9 pm Sunday night. That's usually when I catch it. Next Generation used to air at 5 pm on Saturdays, and it found its audience. So I wouldn't worry about the time slot so much.
  6. Sue him for inciting frivilous lawsuits. : )
  7. Mission Brief, Stardate 10405.12 A transwarp conduit has taken the Arcadia to an unknown area of space. Battered and broken, the ship's only hope lies in obtaining spare parts from an abandoned Borg cube. But is the cube really abandoned? Or will the crew's scavenger hunt lead to their own assimilation? Cptn Moose USS Arcadia, NCC-1742-E
  8. "A Voice From The Past", Stardate 10405.09 Moose stared at the Borg cube on the main viewer. Inert and lifeless, it still scared him to death. There was something about the design of the cube that always inspired that feeling. Perhaps is was the harsh, angular lines or the perfect symmetry in its dimensions, but the sight of a Borg cube always froze the blood of its beholder. Moose wondered if it was by design, or whether its functionality accidentally reflected the soullessness of its designer. The last time Moose had seen one, he had been very critical of his command staff. This time, he was Captain. It was his turn to make the mistakes. Was it wrong to send an away team to investigate? No, they had no choice. The Arcadia was dead in space. The warp engines were irreparably damaged unless they found an outside source of materials. And there was nowhere to go within impulse range. There was no place to go, period. Except to the Borg cube. If it was as abandoned as it looked, then it would be literal smorgasbord of technology and spare parts. If not ... Moose didn't want to complete the thought. Self-destruct was as inoperative as the warp engines. And the structural damage to the hull was so severe that defense was impossible. Those monsters would carve the ship apart like a Thanksgiving turkey. So for the moment, there was nothing to do but wait. It had been years since Moose had last encountered the Borg, but it felt like yesterday. He recalled the electrified smell of ozone that filled the corridors, and the erie green/blue glow that engulfed everything. Every sound echoed as if the walls didn't exist, and no matter how hot it was, you always felt chilled. Moose rarely accessed his personal logs. Once they were recorded, they were done. He wasn't sure what possessed him this time, but before he knew what he was doing, the playback had started ... Personal Log, SD 9703.30 It appears that I have the lounge to myself this evening, which is surprising considering the circumstances. The Captain's assimilation into the Borg Collective has brought morale to an all time low. Bad times on the bridge are usually good for business in the lounge. Counselor Raishel joined me for a brief time, but left empty-handed. She sought me out to scold me, since I hadn't stopped by her office to discuss my feelings of grief and guilt. As Chief of Security, surely I must be feeling some responsibility for events? I'd known Captain Neva for longer than most. I had served with her for years. I assured Raishel that I didn't have any guilt and tried to get her to talk about her own feelings, but she resisted and didn't believe me. She left muttering something about denial and office hours. But the truth is that I do not feel responsible. Had I been on the bridge when the Borg arrived, I would have been powerless to stop them, just as Cdr Davis and Lt Marx both were. Instead, I was twenty decks away escorting Raishel safely to engineering, where her research into the Crystalline Entities and the Borg could have been used to develop a weapon to destroy them. As I recall, I was the only one looking for ways to destroy our foes. Everyone else wanted to study our predators... learn how to communicate... make friends with them. Since our experience with the Jania, I have been carrying around the memories of their chancellor, Ronan. Until now they have just been images in my head, like long forgotten holo-stories. For the first time, however, I am beginning to recognize and understand the frustration Ronan felt. As chancellor, he was involved in most of the major events of his people. He had a very clear sense of their needs, and of what was in their best interests. But his brother, Otar, was the king, and Otar was executing a more hedonistic, more emotional agenda. Ronan was so close to power, yet not close enough. He was forced to develop less obvious ways of achieving his goals. Given time, he could have built the Jania into one of the major races of the galaxy. Like Ronan, I also had a clear idea of what was best for my people. Raishel's research had determined us how use the Crystalline Entity to destroy the Borg. Cdr. Davis was too emotional to act. Instead, he sent an AT to the Borg cube. And as I predicted, we ran out of time. We couldn't save Captain Neva, and our opportunity to destroy the Borg was lost. Nevaka of Borg is freely roaming the galaxy, and the secrets of the Federation are roaming with her. My only fault was that I was not fast enough with the antique projectile weapons we were using. I had Neva directly in my sights and could have saved her from her fate if I had been a split second faster. But one of the Borg drones stepped into the way and gave its life to protect her. Neva will certainly suffer in her new form, but it will not be in vain. Her abduction has taught me that I must find a way to act on my instincts, and to protect the people in my care from themselves. I will not make that mistake again. Cdr. Moose Chief of Security USS Arcadia, NCC-1742-D Moose pondered the words he had spoken so many years ago. They were so harsh, so bitter. In retrospect, Raishel had been right about denial. But was Moose in denial now. He had just sent an away team to the Borg cube. He was no longer that angry young man in the recording, but had age mellowed him so much that he'd grown soft, and forgotten the lessons so painfully learned? Moose knew better than to second-guess his command decisions. Once they were made, they were made. Period. But this was different. His voice from the past was disparaging his actions in the present. Moose could only hope that age had made him wiser, and not slow and careless. Cptn Moose USS Arcadia, NCC-1742-E
  9. I just want to say how disappointed I am with all you red-blooded american boys. This thread started talking about how hot Sigourney Weaver is, and ended up veering off towards Sean Connery and Keaneu Reeves. I can understand Huff wanting to see Gary Sinease, but Gentlemen ... please ... stay on topic. ;-) What is Pamela Anderson up to these days, anyway?
  10. Mission Brief, Stardate 10405.05 In a desperate ploy to evade destruction, the USS Arcadia has entered the Transwarp Conduit they discovered in Romulan space. Reportedly, the conduit leads to the planet Paktar in Coalition space, but that remains to be seen ...
  11. Zar Alces swore aubibly as sparks from the shield re-modulator singed his uniform. Not only did it hurt, but now he was going to smell of burnt synthetics until he could get a decent shower. And considering the beating that the Arcadia was sustaining, that wasn't bound to happen soon. "What is happening? Does anybody know?" he called out in general. Engineering was in a state of organized chaos. Efficiency experts would call it pandemonium, but on the other hand, efficiency experts wouldn't know which end of a screwdriver to use if it wasn't labeled "This End Up". Everyone had a job to do, and it looked to Alces as if they were skillfully staying out of each other's way. It reminded him of the ballet on Windsor III, except that everyone was dressed. "We've been attacked by a Romulan warbird," an unidentified voice shouted back. "We're going to try to enter the trans...". The hiss of a the faked warp core breech drowned out the sound. Did Alces hear that right? Was Captain Moose going to enter the transwarp conduit? It was insane, and it wasn't fair. The ship couldn't withstand that kind of stress, especially with the shield re-modulator taking shots at him. And Moose had no business entering the conduit while Alces was anywhere on the ship. The last time that happened, Alces spent 10 years stranded on an unreachable chunk of rock in the Devil's Nebula. He wasn't supposed to be in space again, he was supposed to be retired on Risa ... planetbound. But that manipulative Captain Raishel had forced him back into service. And then that ... that Moose, had gotten him involved in that whole Coalition thing. If Alces hadn't been on the Arcadia to take Hayden to meet the Coalition Ambassador, he never would have been dragged on the Romulan mission. He's be on a Starbase somewhere, playing dom'jot and cheating cadets out of their wages. If this conduit stranded them somewhere undesirable, Moose was going to owe him big. But Alces knew that now he was the one who wasn't being fair. And his debt to Moose went back too many years to repay on a single mission. Hundreds actually, whether Moose knew it or not. He doubted that Moose was aware of his ancestors involvement in the NX project. But Zar had lived it, as Mirona Alces, and no matter how bad his memory was there were some things you never forgot. Like this, he thought, as the evacuation klaxon sounded. As he was ushered out of main engineering, he thought again of that decade in the Devil's Nebula. Old debt or not, Moose would pay for this one.
  12. Well done, Mr. Precip. Welcome to the team. Moose
  13. When all else fails ... pull out the man in drag. God bless Milton Berle.
  14. They'll serve anyone, Tovan. Especially if you're gambling.
  15. Well, I must confess that I haven't been watching Enterprise much lately. But for some unknown insomniac reason, I was clicking through the episode guides on startrek.com one night and noticed that the guest cast of "Damage" listed the name Josette DiCarlo. I did plays with a Josette DiCarlo back in college. How many of them could there be? I thought "how fun" and made a point to see the episode. Well, heck ... Josette played the "Sphere Builder". She was the only woman guest star, so it had to be her, but I doubt that her own mother would have recognized her under the featureless latex head. Still, loyalty is loyalty, so I went back to the startrek.com to see if Josette was going to be a re-occurring character or a one-shot wonder. While looking for her, I discovered Kipleigh Brown was playing Crewman Taylor in "The Forgotten". Kipleigh's mother and her sister and I had also done shows together, and her mom and I had been in an improvisational comedy troup together. So I had to see that episode too. And I was very pleased that I actually got to see her (I thought she did a great job). But Enterprise is in the middle of this continuing story arc, and I love continuing story arcs (the Dominion War kept me watching DS9 for years), so now I'm hooked again. Truth be told, now that I have no expectations, the show is pretty good. I don't mind getting hooked again and I'm looking forward to summer reruns.
  16. Actually, truth be told, the crew of the Arcadia had been holding their summer get-together in Vegas long before STSF was a twinkle in a rebel's eye. While the rest of you were chasing down autographs in Baltimore, Dac and I were storming the $3 blackjack tables at the Sahara, sweet-talking ticket takers into backstage tours of the Experience (before they caught on and started charging for bridge photos), and wandering aimlessly down the strip because no one was willing to make a decision on where to go (which is where the phrase "herding cats" originated - with apologies to Huff's amoeba analogy). And even all the stories about how accomodating Huff and Blu were to strange men who dropped into Baltimore at the last minute were not enough to get me to change coasts and use my hard earned vacation dollars in a city without a Trek themed casino. Vegas ... accept no substitute.
  17. "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above ..." James 1:17 Happy birthday, Grommy. M. : )
  18. Mission Brief, Stardate 10404.28 Deep in Romulan space, the damaged and crippled Arcadia has discovered the enterance to a Transwarp Conduit. The conduit reportedly took Ambassador Moose and the Federation Delegation directly to Paktar, a three month journey otherwise. The Arcadia must prove this theory before wearing out their welcome with the Romulans. Cptn Moose USS Arcadia, NCC-1742-E
  19. Has anyone been watching "The Practice"? Shatner has been doing a brilliant, brilliant job as a charasmatic, high profile lawyer. It's great fun to watch and you should check it out if you're a Shatner fan. However, he's aged since Generations. Even 'Q' isn't going to be able to bring that man back. I think we all need to accept the fact that Kirk is gone, except in the books. : ) Moose

  23. My advise would be to join an existing group (hint hint), either a live play or pbem group. After you get to know people, you'll have a pool of players to approach about your idea. It just so happens that the STSF has a live action Romulan sim, the RES Talon. You should check it out.
  24. ick ... No wonder you're all green. ;-) I know that I am now. Moose
