  1. Welcome to STSF! (That intro message is getting longer.)
  2. Happy birthday, A9.
  3. That's not to say that you can't start investigating before you graduate. Most (all?) ships welcome players who aren't on the sim to watch quietly during their sim time. If you had any questions, you could PM the host(s). Hood is now running as an academy, so cadets can play there. If you do want to bring an exotic character onto the sim, you should definitely check it out with the GMs of the sim(s) you're interested in before applying.
  4. Hi and welcome! This shouldn't be a problem. You only need familiarity with the Trek universe. If you're more comfortable in TOS, we have 1 TOS sim (Hood). But you certainly don't need to know every episode of every Trek ever shown. When it comes time to write your own character (once you graduate academy), you should write one you are familiar with. Human is a perfectly good race. You can become familiar with other characters by reading their bios. You could always ask them what they meant by private message (PM) or PM one of the academy game masters (GMs). Our ship positions are explained in our help section, and Memory Alpha is a good resource for Trek technobabble (both linked to by Marx above).
  5. Hi, and welcome. There are a number of people here who use dialup. Once you have a Java plugin installed, it should work fine.
  6. He's also wearing a uniform from too late in TOS. He should be wearing something at least a bit more similar to the ones shown in TOS "The Cage."
  7. Not sure what you mean by "they are blank" -- do you mean the chat applet is not showing up or do you mean that nobody is there? Usually, people are only around during sim times. The schedule will tell you when academy (and advanced) games run.
  8. Hi, Welcome to STSF. You should definitely start off by reading the help page, which explains the basics of simming, the academy, the posting system, etc. You do not have to create a character for the academy. It's best if you don't. Just concentrate on learning how to sim. I'm not sure about the 9PM sim, but, please do come back for other scheduled sims (all sims on schedule are listed in Eastern and Pactific time). It is best to arrive 5-10 minutes early.
  9. Feel like you can't breathe? Have a stuffy head? Try our new cold remedy...
  10. This sim takes place in an alternate universe that had never known the concept of war. Here, Starfleet officers are adventurers who go away from their happy homes to set up new trade agreements, increase the range of communications, rescue ships in trouble and the like. Arcadia, having just left Paradisia, arrives at the planet Benoni, between the space occupied by the Romulans and the space occupied by the Federation. They had been invited by the planet's head of state, Melek, to a dinner in their honor, preceding trade negotiations. Arcadia crew enjoys their dinner until it is interrupted when Arcadia reports some new ships in the area that just appeared out of nowhere. They detect an energy surge in the ships' forward sections, and soon after, communications are lost between Arcadia and the ground crew. ChatLog.071121to071122.txt
  11. The bridge officers complete mapping the void, finding a possible way out. Westler begins to recover enough strength to be moved to a standard biobed. Lo'Ami, who had walking around sickbay now for a while, surreptitiously sticks a hypo containing a sedative into his sickbay jumpsuit. When Counselor Merri visits sickbay, Lo'Ami (whose second brain wave is now very high, but because he's off the biobed, the sickbay staff don't know that) convinces Merri to allow him to go into the counselor's office, which he verifies is private. While there, he uses the sedative hypo on Merri, and runs out of sickbay. Merri, allergic to the sedative, goes into anaphylactic shock, and is saved by Swan and Westler, who remembers to check for Merri's drug allergies. Running Lo'Ami heads to deck 2, where Captain Dacotah's quarters are, and turns off internal sensors and internal transporters using command overrides. He then enters a weapons locker and obtains a phaser. And then, he blasts down the door to the captain's quarters, just in time to find her disappearing into a space-time anomaly with Baran Arvid. he then proceeds to blast everything in sight in the captain's quarters. The bridge detects the space-time anomaly, and a crewman reports a disturbance, while sickbay reports back that the XO is loose on the ship and crazy. They send security and try to get past the command overrides. ChatLog.071114to071115.txt
  12. The mapping of the void is completed. Aaron Westler awakes from a coma he had been in since having suffered from the aftereffects of being bitten by an animal on EK-384. Lo'Ami starts walking around sickbay. Swan finds that officers are beginning to trust her. ChatLog.071107to071108.txt
  13. Lo'Ami accesses the computer from sickbay, his second pattern spikes slightly while he checks the locations of some officers. The bridge officers visit Lo'Ami in sickbay. Lo'Ami opines that the cold start is too dangerous to try without more information, especially in nonlinear space. They come up with a plan to map the void's nonlinearities by releasing probes on automatic control, and expanding the ship's shields in a regular pattern. The places where the shield modulation is detected by the probes indicates where the space maps to. ChatLog.071031to071101.txt
  14. Lo'Ami visibly recovers; Swan allows him some limited time on a console. His second brain-wave continues to exist, but is suppressed by medication. Daena reports that she found no explosive residue in stellar cartography. She asks to be removed from the investigation of the stellar cartography explosion. It is turned over to security. Eagle and Sema'J complete simulations modeling the void. They suggest blasting a hole in the void with quantum torpedoes, and a simultaneous cold start o fthe warp core, trying to overload the void. They attempt to release blank torpedoes into the void, as an attempt to map it. The torpedoes disappear from sensors, then return to Arcadia. Alces proposes that the void has nonlinear physics. ChatLog.071024to071025.txt
  15. Welcome to STSF (and back to simming)!
  16. Arcadia will be having its annual Thanksgiving dinner (more info to come on that on the arc boards and lists). The sim is optional for all players.
  17. Daena is released from sickbay. Sickbay tries a drug on Cmdr Lo'Ami to suppress his second brain-wave pattern, and he regains conciousness. Sema'J restores power to systems, and finds that the ship's chronometer is out of sync with no source to synchronize against. Bridge crew theorize about the nature of the void. They suggest that a large burst of energy from a cold start of the warp engines might allow them to overcome the void's absorbance of energy and to exit the void. ChatLog.071017to071018.txt
  18. Welcome to STSF! Hope to see you around in an academy.
  19. If that doesn't work, it would help to give more information... what browser and version are you using (eg, IE, Firefox)? on what system (eg, Windows/Mac)? Which Java plugin/version (eg, Sun or Microsoft)? Have you tried on a different browser? Do you get the same result?
  20. The ship shakes and power fluctuates wildly from the ship's entry into the spatial rift. Medical is called to the bridge to help the badly beaten Lo'Ami. When the ship stops shaking, only minimal power and life support are left running -- even the internal communications and artificial gravity systems failed. Communications are accomplished by runners. Lo'Ami is eventually stabalized by Servo and brought to sickbay via the Jeffries tubes. Alces - who is getting claustrophobic in the dark - proposes going on a spacewalk. Thoros volunteers to go with him. Alces starts by looking out a window and finding no stars. Alces, Eagle and Thoros make their way to the yacht port. Alces and Eagle are tethered by rope into EVA. Merri finds herself alone in the underpowered sickbay, trying to get some minimal power back to the biobeds. When Lo'Ami arrives in sickbay, they attempt treatment on the recommendations of the computer. Marx breaks himself out of the brig using the manual release. He heads to the bridge. After some light is restored on the bridge, Baran Arvid is seen standing near the command chair. He seems unaffected by the lack of gravity. Baran says that the Romulans have "jumped" but doesn't say where or when. He identifies himself as Dac's "consort." Marx and Baran enter a battle of words over their respective machismo. Sema'J gets himself into engineering, and begins to restore auxilliary power systems, including partial sensors, and gravity to sickbay and the bridge. ChatLog.071003to071004.txt
  21. I just checked, and the chat room does seem to be working. Can you tell us what error you're getting that makes you think it's broken? (You said "it won't load for me" -- where does it stop working?) Did you log in to the boards before loading the chat room (if you didn't, try logging in)?
  22. Repairs on stellar cartography are completed quickly. Meanwhile, engineering tries to maintain shields. Daena is taken from the bridge to sickbay. Tom Servo figures out that Marx's death was faked. Tells Thoros. Cmdr Alces has engineering prepare a Delta Wave replicator, in an attempt to use it to sync with the Romulan shields frequencies and find Lo'Ami, whom the Romulans claim to be dead. After a mysterious tachyon burst, Baran Arvid, an overly muscled [tall] man with phasers strapped across his chest appears on the bridge. The bridge crew is ordered to lower their weapons. The man identifies himself to the captain via something only they would know "the wolf's name is Fricka." Baran reveals that the ship is in grave danger (as if we didn't know already) and must leave this sector of space immediately -- having nothing to do with the Romulans. He reveals that soon there will be a tear in space right near them. Suddenly, the fissure starts opening. As soon as it's detected, Baran flashes off Arcadia. A bruised and bloodied Lo'Ami appears on Arcadia, as Arcadia is dropped into the rift. Power goes offline and lots of crunching sounds are heard. ChatLog.070926to070927.txt
  23. (via Slashdot) TrekToday reports that George Takei, who played Sulu in TOS, will appear in Star Trek:New Voyages, a fanfic Star Trek series. (note: the sites a little slow now; probably, because they've been Slashdotted).
  24. Let's face it, if you think it's too much work to search for something on Memory Alpha, you won't search for it on a ship or forum specific site either. And, chances are the specific site will not be maintained any better than MA is already. I do maintain a ship-specific wiki <http://ussarcadia.game-host.org:8080>. The primary things I try to keep up to date are the plot summaries and the roster, which are (obviously) entirely sim-specific canon. Maintaining an encyclopedia, even if it's just of sim-canon, is time consuming. It would be easier with more user-contributions (hint, hint, Arc players), but I find that (with a few exceptions), I put in about 90% of the edits. If there's something that's new to the sim and important, I'll try to put it in, but I don't write articles about hyposprayers or navigational systems. Duplication of effort is pointless.
  25. Engineering identifies the unknown part as coming from Romulan origin. The Romulans hail Arcadia and claim that an "ambiguity" in the [[Treaty of Algeron]] permitted them to claim the space for the Romulan Empire. They offer to allow Arcadia's captain to beam over to a Romulan ship for negotiations. Arcadia refuses to allow the captain to go over alone. Eventually, it is agreed that the Romulans would beam a small party over to Arcadia for negotiations, and that both sides would keep their shields down while the party was onboard. A Romulan party of 4, including the Romulan commander and three hooded individuals, beams to Arcadia and meets in the observation lounge. The hooded individuals take off their hoods and look exactly like the missing ambassador, his assistant, and his pilot, except that they're Romulans. ChatLog.070905to070906.txt
