  1. Agreed. BIG difference between in-character and out-of-character interactions. In-character conflict shouldn't be taken personally out-of-character, and vice versa. It's just a game after all.
  2. ::grins:: I actually thought it was much more recent, which was the only reason I went looking. Apparently you're not repetitive, I just have a bad memory.

  4. Foul! Repetition, one-love!
  5. Generally speaking, part of the process of learning to play a chief properly is to learn to strike the balance between listening to the suggestions your subordinates make and making your final decision. If the subordinate feels they are being ignored but that they are able to contribute something useful, they will want to take matters into their own hands. If someone questions your orders, listen to what they have to say, acknowledge the suggestion, and then make your decision and follow through on it. Given that this is a collaborative game, striking the balance between being a firm leader and working with the people under you is important. If the player under you is more experienced, then they probably have good suggestions to make, and it's important not to take this as an assault on your authority. You're allowed to be firm in your decision whether or not to follow through on their suggestion but it is definitely good to listen to them.
  6. Six o'clock, TV hour, Don't get caught in foreign towers. Slash and burn, return, Listen to yourself churn. Locking in, uniforming, book burning, bloodletting, Every motive escalate, Automotive incinerate. Light a votive, light a candle, step down, step down, Watch your heel crush crush, uh oh This means no fear, cavalier, Renegade, steer clear, Tournament, tournament, tournament of lies. Offer me solutions, Offer me alternatives, And I DECLINE.

On its last day of surveys, the shuttle has been caught in a violent weather pattern over the planet's equator, which shorted out its systems and caused it to crash catastrophically in an equatorial jungle region, where it now sits, leaking in the pouring rain.
  9. Just sent my registration in as well! W0000000t! (And I hope y'all appreciate it too, 'cos the mailbox area was crawling with huge bees. ::whimper:: ) :P
  10. Welcome to STSF, Phil! I hope you enjoy roleplaying here as much as I have. Feel free to ask if you have any questions and I look forward to seeing you in the academies! (P.S. Totally with you on the Defiants. They rock...give me a small maneuverable ship over a big Sovy-class any day. <_< )
  11. MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
  12. Testing...? Testing...? <_<
  13. Welcome to STSF, Shakalu! I hope you have a great time RPing here. I look forward to seeing you in the acads. <_< There are some similarities between STSF simming and D&D, though from what I understand they're not exactly the same. If you haven't already, I recommend you take a look at the Tips from the Moose and How to Sim, which are both good resources for new players to help explain how it works. You can also check out chatlogs of old games here. If you have any questions, feel free to ask around or ping any of the GMs. We're a friendly bunch. :P See you in the sims!
  14. Whoooo, happy birthday, Sakura! ::waves a little flag, does a little dance:: Hope it's a good one. :P ((Mmmmm...doughnuts. <_< ))
  15. AMEN. ::waves a little "Web Standards" flag::
  16. Select "My Controls" in the top right corner of the screen, then "Board Settings" along the left hand side. The first item there is changing what time zone you see the board in.
  17. Happy Pi Day! Here's to much pie and revelry. Or whatever one does on Pi Day. :P TKAR> Pi is a mathematical constant (approximately 3.14159, though the digits go on infinitely in random sequence) which is used in tons of different ways in math, and since it starts out 3.14, it's a joke that 3/14 is pi day. They used to have celebrations at my school. <_<
  18. I'm really excited that I"m not the only person to think this. I love DS9, it's my favorite series out of the five, but I've always felt that Brooks was the weakest part of it. He always struck me as very wooden and his diction is too overly precise to seem unrehearsed and natural. I actually saw him live in a production of Tamburlane in DC a couple of years ago and honestly felt pretty much the same about it, though I feel like his acting handles better on a stage where things are a little more spread out and you have to have that kind of over-the-top preciseness in order to carry to everyone in the room. Interestingly, though, no one else (until now) that I know of who watches DS9 has ever commented about this. So I'd kind of come to the conclusion that I was being oversensitive. ;)

  21. 20 credits on the Vulcans. Even though there's no ice on their planet. They're just that good. What they don't know is that I know of the existence of half the songs I'm playing tonight because I heard them at SLE. ;)
  22. Welcome to STSF, Whickfield! I hope you have a great time RPing with us! I highly recommend you have a look at the Tips from the Moose and How to Sim areas on our forums/website; they'll help you get started on how simming works in our community. We have one-hour practice/training "Academy" games for new players every night, so feel free to stop by those games and the GMs will help you get set up as well; the schedule is available at http://www.stsf.net/schedule.php. Feel free to ask around if you have any questions. See you in the Academies! ;)
  23. So I've been hired to DJ a party. For money. Apparently someone is under the mistaken impression that I'm cool. ;) Not that I'm complaining.
