  1. I wouldn't know. I've gone to the chat rooms once in a while to see if anyone wanted to just chat ... or perhaps to 1:1 RP some miscelaneous irrelevant character developing stuff. No one was ever there, so I assumed that misc. chat was against some rule I was unaware of. Perhaps that is what happened: we newbies show up not knowing any better, and since chat pretty much is empty except for RPs we assume that the way it is = the way it aught to be. It's a logical falacy, I know, but it is a course of assumption which is often taken.
  2. The message came, but none remained to receive it: Rosencranz And Gildenstern Are Dead.
  3. Welcome Cadet - I hope to see you in an academy sim soon. It is pleasant to encounter new individuals.
  4. The question comes down to ... can they come up with an original idea? One of the best SG1 episodes ( in my opinion ) starts with Daniel and the delightful words "... that's just how I feel. What do you think, Jack?" I wouldn't say that there were no good episodes in the later seasons: only that the good episodes were the ones that they stepped away from the Mega-Enemy Arcs and went into situations where we got to see the characters be whomever they were. Those are the fun ones.
  5. I love that cake! Best of days, Random!
  6. If you don't like hyper-impossible villains with hyper-impossible odds ... it only gets worse.
  7. Neither a Constellation or Enterprise class heavy cruiser made a good model in any form of plastic or foam rubber. The pylon structure was wholely inadequate such that the engine pods were forever at cockeyed angles. Now that I've thoroughly demonstrated my geekdom, welcome among us.
  8. Well, considering that before you can have a 'Wrath of Kahn' you have to have 'Space Seed', one would hope that this is unlikely. A) In trying to discover a new Vulcan homeworld ( investigate new colony, establish a science outpost, etc ), the Enterprise runs afoul of the ( Tholians, Gorn, insert odd race here ... ). Kirk must discover that there's more to being a starfleet captain than shooting things. A series of outposts are under attack ... let's say, Enterprise vs the Orions ( Gorns, Klingons, Tholians, Romulans of this timestream, new race, etc. : no hyper-cosmic all-powerful entities, please ). C) The Enterprise is studying a nebula with a small race of beings inside it. Thing is: the entire nebula is alive, and the beings are the nebula's anti-bodies. D) Sub-plot: Story begins with the Enterprise performing routine tasks under which Kirk chafes - itching to do something 'relevant'. By the end of the story, Kirk learns that 'relevant' things rarely happen without the loss of at least two red-shirted crewmen - leaving Kirk with a growing concern for his crew. E) Take a variant from Diane Carey's 'Dreadnought': Enterprise is sent to chase down a renegade cruiser stolen by a faction of cadets, only to discover that the 'renegades' are patriots looking to save the Federation from the goals and ambitions of a renegade Admiral. F) Run a 'Prime Directive' Senario where the Enterprise needs to rescue ( someone / something ) within the confines of the Prime Directive - which means not interfering or even revealing themselves to an undeveloped civilization. Complicate the matter ( if you wish ) by adding in a race ( Klingons, Romulans, Tholians, whomever ) with no such compunctions. Save the world from devestation while not significantly revealing yourselves - that should be a good trick. That's enough work for fifteen to twenty minutes. G'night all.
  9. Naughty spot - bad spot! No treat tonight!
  10. "... for their own Finnish purposes ..." Why does that sound evil?
  11. "i love to have a good time, and drinking romulan ale. " While the former is all good and well, the latter is known to reduce your lifespan considerably. Welcome.
  12. Hmm ... pretty good description regarding the Antietam, though I'll have to get an image of the phaser cannon. I gave up on TNG years before the series ended. Yes: the Revenge is simpler - but again I will need to work on developing baseline knowledge. I'd love to work on this over the next few weeks: I'm just saying that things won't be drilled out immediately. ----- Question: what kind of secondary hull would you like for the Revenge? The Daedalus had a very basic cylinder; I would assume ( perhaps incorrectly ) that you would wish something a bit more stylized? Question: I think I found your cannon for the Antietam ... the spacing of the nacelles now becomes a question. Would you like a secondary hull placement like "All good things ...", or would you like one positioned on the primary hull like the '75 Tech Manual version of a dreadnought? ( Also seen on the cover of Fortunes of War - Book 1: DREADNOUGHT by Diane Carey ). The primary hull shuttlebay you requested could be split by the dorsal strut.
  13. Well, not looking to make more than it is. It seems that there are three primary elements to Federation starship design: the primary hull, the secondary hull, and the engine nacelle. Once you have those three patters it's a question of mix & match: how to configure them in order to produce an efficient vessel. All I need now is to model a secondary hull, and I'll be ready to build up some variations or modify the basic models - infinite diversity in infinite combination, as one might say.
  14. Ah, if only ... An introductory sketch, but it demonstrates a basic 'saucer' and engine pattern.
  15. I'm a CAD designer - among other things. At the moment I have a number of starship variations written out on paper. A careful moment could get them transferred to a PDF file. Of course, I would much prefer creating digital renditions. If I can ever get a CAD or drawing program to work on my machine, I'd be happy to take you up on your challenge. Actually - with a little practice, I could probably get PC Paint to give me a rough rendition ...
  16. Comedians - there's one in every crowd. :P *hugs*
  17. Are there any horror film afficianatos here? I saw a clip of a movie one time where a woman falls down a flight of stairs and catches a pipe of running water in the back of her skull. Scene ends with water & blood running out of her mouth. The only way to exorcise this image from my mind is if I know where it came from. For the Love of God, please somebody help me: where did this come from?
  18. Today I hope to get my scooter working again ... or maybe this week. Depends on whether or not I have money for the extra gas bottle and fuel pump.
  19. There is nothing so interesting about philosophy or psychology that a high school or college class cannot ruin it utterly.
  20. "Your stupid cloaking device hides the plane, but not you." "What - you can't see the plane, but you can see me?" "That's what I said." "Oh - that's just stupid!" "Real stupid!"
  21. "... save your skin ..."? I beg to differ. That pumice scraped off an outer layer - which is why it worked so well. It removed the most stubborn grime: skin & all. I liked it too - I like anything that really works. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Practically all forms of behavior can be reduced to conditioned response. We effectively live our lives the same way Pavlov's Dog did ... until we are aware that we are doing so. At that moment: whether we accept our actions or strive against them, we are living fully sentient lives.
  22. "They thought walking on water was cool? Wait'll they get a load of me!"
  23. Which means I have time to offer my best wishes as well. I hope you have the happiest of days.
  24. Not having the money for such extravagence, it's hard for me to say. I will say that I dislike all the 'remastering'. It looks fake; at least when you look at the original series, the effects match the television era they were made in. The result is a comfortable ( if not always impressive ) mesh of space, location, and interior scenes. 'Flashier', or 'technically superior' does not always mean 'better'. Of course, if you wish to make up your own mind then go to YouTube and search 'Star Trek Remastered'. Take a look at the clips and make up your own mind. I will say that the visuals are impressive.
  25. Aside from the fact that you're limited to their 3 or 4 options of any one feature, the d$ thing doesn't run on my system - most likely an incompatibility from Windows '95 to now. Of course, I can't get SecondLife to run on this machine either, so I probably shouldn't judge.
