STSF_Scooter -> Understandable then. Shalin -> :: Peeks behind the Captain, suddenly curious ... :: The lights came up, revealing the Captain’s At Sea cabin. It wasn’t much anyway, just a single bunk and a locker for spare uniforms; it gave Audraya a place to rest during extended alert conditions or when patrolling a particularly nasty portion of the border. “I guess it’ll do. But needs a different shade of paint in here. The ‘Battleship Grey’ is going to get really depressing, really fast. “Now then, Mr. Shalin, how quickly can your staff reconfigure new quarters?”
  7. Moonshines Diner Dusty Ford, New Topeka 1130 hours, local SD 2261.362 Audraya slid into the booth and settled down on the vinyl-covered bench. Moonshines, in Dusty Ford (a misnomer of a town name, since it was on the coast), was your typical, cliche’d 1950’s diner- good, cheap food; decent service, lots of shiny chrome and easy to clean vinyl. She’d found the place while scoping out sites to retire to. Audraya was, as she was fond of pointing out, not getting any younger. She was a week into her three week leave before going TDY to one of the Epsilon stations. The waitress, Margo, had just placed a mug of coffee on the table, after taking her order. A sip passed Audraya’s lips, the hot caffeinated beverage waking her up even more than the early morning call from the realtor’s office. “Commander Wesley?” She looked up from her mug, and narrowed her eyes. “Major Mulder, I see Starfleet Office of Special Investigations has gotten a new tailor. What do I have the misfortune of your visit this time?” “We want you to return to T’tooine.” “Excuse me, Major, but I recall barely getting out of there the last time alive. And with two members of my crew kidnapped by my late brother. Which,” Audraya’s voice dropped since she wasn’t sure how much of their rescue mission was and/or wasn’t classified, “resulted in our ‘participation’ in Operation Whiteout. And let’s not forget the last time you came to debrief and interrogate me.” Scully spoke up. “Commander, we’re not sending you in to be an agent. We’re sending you to bust J’bba’s wide open. Mareena, and some local assets, have provided quite a treasure trove of information about that establishment. Slavery, narcotics, weapons trafficking, fencing; you name the vice, J’bba has his hand in it. We believe that your aunt wants him shut down.” With the a snarl forming, Scooter looked at the two OSI agents. “I don’t care what Mareena wants. She and I haven’t seen eye to eye since Commodore Wesley rescued me, considering my own family sold me as chattel.” Mulder tossed a tablet on the table. “You remember Juverna?” Audraya nodded. “Seems J’bba’s got something in store for her. And it’s not pretty. That Augment you were working with, Log’n, tipped us off that there’s to be an auction in a few weeks.” “Dos srowSscha*,” she growled at Mulder in Low Kolari. “How dare you bring that up.” “Commander,” Scully said, placatingly, “my partner wanted to make you aware of J’bba’s trafficking. We want you to lead a crack team of agents to liberate his sentient merchandise, destroy his warehouses, and bring him back for trial.” “Senger vel'bol oolos nindolen dhynen tlu*” Audraya muttered. “You think it’s going to be that easy? Walk in, capture J’bba, free the slaves, and destroy the warehouse? By the old gods, you people live in a white tower.” “Commander, your current orders have already been rescinded as has your leave. There’s a Vanguard-class shuttle waiting to take you and the team you’re to lead at the airport,” Mulder said. “Do I at least have time to tell Commander Kvar what’s happening?” “You do,” Scully said. The redhead did understand, even if it wasn’t 100% protocol for this. “Thank you Major.” Mulder looked put out as he retrieved the tablet from the table. “Shuttle leaves at 1330, Commander, pad 34. Stay in your civilian clothes.” ~~~~~~~~ Scooter sat in the parking lot of the local coastguard station, tablet in hand. “Dearest Tifa, I don’t want you to worry about me. OSI is really starting to annoy me; they’ve ‘volunteered’ me again for one of their operations. It’s a planet that we both know far too well, kind of a white out world. I don’t know when I’ll be back, but I’ll still try to write while I’m gone. “The ship, I don’t know if you’ve heard, is in spacedock for a full rebuild. Hopefully, you’ll be assigned to Wile E.’s office for the duration. She could probably use the help. “Your ever loving, Audraya” ________________________ Dos srowSscha- You scumbag Senger vel'bol oolos nindolen dhynen tlu "Lord what fools these mortals be!" 8. Malcolm Reed Memorial Airport Dusty Ford, New Topeka 1315 hours local With heels striking the duracrete tarmac, Audraya strode towards the shuttle, the breeze coming off the bay ruffling the hem of her skirt and hair. She paused when she heard “Commander Wesley, I presume?” coming from from behind her. A redheaded Vulcan was catching up to her. “I am Commander T’Mir, your medical officer for this mission.” “Pleased to meet you, Doc. Kinda surprising to still see a Vulcan in Starfleet; I only know of two- Commander Spock and my own ship’s surgeon, Dr. T’Aral.” The two officers continued to walk towards the shuttle, watching the MACOs loading the underslung cargo pod with gear. “There are still some of us who feel that the needs of Starfleet outweighs the needs of our own people. Ambassador Spock is very instrumental in reminding us of that.” The two continued to walk towards the shuttle. “Commander, may I ask you a question?” “You just did, but feel free to ask another,” Audraya replied. T’Mir raised her eyebrow. “Why were you accepted for this mission?” “I wasn’t. I was ordered on to this mission by a pair of OSI agents who seem to enjoy harassing me when they find it convenient. The last time they sent me to T’tooine, it was without so much as a ‘by your leave, here’s your contact, be safe and don’t do anything stupid’. There are times I really wonder just who is running Starfleet.” “Nominally, it would be the Commander in Chief, Admiral Mendez if I’m correct. However, the undercurrents of just who, as you asked, is running Starfleet does make our orders illogical.” Audraya nodded. “On that, I heartily agree Doctor. Especially since OSI is the one who approached me, although I do feel someone completely outside the chain of command is pulling even more strings. From what I remember of J’bba, even if he’s got his pudgy fingers in everything, he’s still small time. Not even enough of a threat to my...loving aunt, the Syndicate as a whole, or the Federation…” T’Mir held her hand up for a moment. “Your aunt?” “Mareena. She’s taken over one of the organizations, the Black Kris. While she’s moving them away from all the usual Orion trades, I still hold no love for her, or her daughter. Litasha, her daughter, hounded our ship and crew and with my late brother, kidnapped two members of our crew for processing.” T’Mir nodded. “I’ve had my own experience with Orion slavers when I was aboard the Hood. It was not a...pleasant experience. Nor is it one I like recalling.” Audraya nodded again as they approached the ramp. “I’m sure you don’t. There were many experiences during my time as a slave that I don’t enjoy recalling. I do, however, prefer to recall the times I spent with my adopted family on Earth, even if Commodore Wesley spent most of his time away with Starfleet. His loss at Vulcan was a shock to our family; so much so that Bruce resigned, and joined the relocation and rebuilding efforts on New Vulcan.” T’Mir nodded. “About this mission, are we going to launch straight to T’tooine?” “I doubt it. And if we try to, as mission commander, I’ll push for several training opportunities. You’ve never experienced ground combat, other than the usual landing party shenanigans. My ground combat skills are, in general, rusty.” “That is logical,” T’Mir replied as they boarded the shuttle. The two senior officers headed forward into the cockpit and buckled in. “Ensign,” T’Mir asked as the shuttle lifted off, “what is our initial destination?” "Sorry, ma'am, I'm not able to disclose that location." With that, he clammed up, and jumped to warp as soon as the shuttle was clear of the atmosphere.
  9. STARFLEET COMMAND UNITED FEDERATION OF PLANETS STARFLEET ENGINEERING COMMAND 2261.310 TO: All Sector and Department Commands RE: Kelvin-class Heavy Frigate Life Extension Program 1. Starfleet Engineering and Bureau of Ships (BuShips) has identified, based on preliminary findings of the Accident Investigation Board into the loss of the USS Kerr, that all Kelvin-class starships have a potential for accelerated stress fatigue in both upper and lower structural pylons. Chief Engineers of forward deployed ships are required to conduct a structural survey of both pylon hard connections to the saucer, secondary hull, and nacelle. Any structural deficiency is to be reported up through the chain of command. 2. Starfleet Engineering and BuShips have identified that the Kelvin-class heavy destroyer design has not stayed consistent with ship classes coming currently online and future designs. Starfleet Engineering and BuShips has determined that the Constitution-class heavy cruiser planform combined with the Miranda-class heavy frigate saucer extension as the optimal planform for the Kelvin-class heavy frigate. 3. Starfleet Engineering and BuShips has also identified that the current nacelle design creates an inefficient warp field, leading to shorter time between refuelings, increased wear on warp field coils and warp plasma conduits. 4. It is the determination of Starfleet Engineering and BuShips that the refitting of Kelvin-class starships will require 12-18 months in drydock for stripping of the existing spaceframe down to the structural members and keel, and replace existing components with all new components. Forward deployed Kelvins are to report to their sector headquarters for refit; Kelvins currently in reserve status will not be subject to this program unless brought out of reserve status. 5. BuShips will transfer the necessary vessels to supplement those departments whose sole or primary assets are Kelvin-class ships with other Starfleet assets. SIGNED: /s/ J. 14. Set in the two hour TBS before Monday's sim- Audraya made her way through the corridors of the ship to the Arboretum, the whispering silk of her gown at odds with sound of her pumps on the against the metal deck. While Tifa had been dealing with some pre-departure out-processing, the ship's XO had gotten dressed to the nines. Making her way through the greenery to the gazebo in the back, activated a small recorder and audio player, spending the 15 minutes in proving *why* she'd been a hit a J'bba's, before returning to their quarters and pulling out a piece of stationary. My dearest Tifa, I know you've been upset with me over this temporary duty assignment to the Command School, and I don't blame you one bit. Yeoman O'Reilly still screwed up when he stuck that endorsement letter for my signature in a stack of the usual administrative bull you've seen me muddle through. And his annual evaluation will reflect that. Anyway, the reason for this note is not because of that. It's because I love you deeply, and you've been an anchor for me. And you should fear for the crew while you're gone, because you've kept me from going "Martinet" on them. So, when you feel lonely or lost, pop this micro-cassette into the reader in your billet in San Francisco. Your loving Audraya Sliding the referenced micro-cassette into the envelope with the letter, she tucked them both in Tifa's luggage.
  15. Losses During the 8 hour TBS Released from sickbay, Colonel Marx stood in the officer's lounge, looking out through the viewports, but not really seeing anything. 2261. I've been asleep for almost 250 years, and the universe has changed. He ran his hand through his now normally short hair, courtesy of Ens Khole and a pair of clippers. I've lost everything, my family, my life, my crew...he felt a hand on his shoulder, and looked up. “Penny for your thoughts,Colonel,” Scooter asked, pulling him out of his ruminations. “I'm trying to adjust, Commander...Wesley, is it?” She nodded, as she gently guided him to a low table and comfortable chair. She settled down, across from him. “Its a lot to take in. The last thing I recall, before waking up, was ordering Lieutenant Yoshida to set the autopilot and cruise on the Hasslein Drive...our sublight drive, and headed down to the cryotubes. “I lost everything, Commander, and I have no idea why I'm even still here.” He paused for a moment, as he realized something. “You're not human, are you? You're not related to Bruce Banner's cousin, Jennifer Walters, are you?” Audraya chuckled at that. “No, nor am I related to Gamora. I'm an Orion, we're from a region of this quadrant of the galaxy called the Delphic Expanse, and yes, this is our normal skin tone. Normally, we're traders and slavers—with females usually as the commodity.” “So how did you wind up in the starfleet?” “I was raised a slave, by my own family, until I was 'purchased' by my step-father, Robert Wesley. The Wesleys helped me recover my humanity, and raised me as their own. "And Colonel, you're in good company aboard the Creek; we all know about loss. I've lost friends, subordinates, and even lovers, although the worst was when I lost my father and virtually all of my shipmates at the Battle of Vulcan, as did most of Earth-assigned Starfleet; Doctor T'Aral lost her entire planet, save for around 10 thousand. And then there were the three terrorist attacks a couple of years ago. “I still have nightmares about the Battle of Vulcan, and being trapped aboard an airless, heatless, dark as a tomb derelict, with vacuum just on the other side of the bulkhead.” “But,” the Colonel countered, “you still have your friends and crew. I have no one. Hell, I have no idea how my wife took it when she was told of our loss. This mission had already strained our marriage to the breaking point.” “Well, I would say go back to the time you came from since the future is not what it used to be, but that's not really going to work. Join Starfleet, help make a difference.” “Problems, I take it?” “Just the usual, for any power. Someone once joked that the future should have been labeled 'Some assembly required.'” “Commander, its very tempting. But I'm a fossil. What I learned about command was 250 years ago. What I know is horribly out of date.” “Command styles never are, Colonel. Except for the ones that are totally inept. But then, those captains tend to Darwin themselves out of existence. And, unfortunately, their crews. I've read your record. You accorded yourself honorably during the Augment attack on your base; Silver Stars, as I recall, weren't handed out like candy during the Eugenics War. Nor was it your fault that Sydney was nuked, so that stigma doesn't hold true any more.” She stood. “Colonel, I do hope you join Starfleet, but if you don't at least I'll understand. When we get to back to Harrington Station, I'll talk with Admiral Coyote about reactivating your pay account and getting your back pay. Almost two hundred and 50 years worth ought to be a tidy sum*. “We'll begin preparations to tow your vessel back to Harrington in the morning. I know you've gotten plenty of it, but you'd best get some rest or at least down time.” Marx nodded. “Good night, Commander. And thanks for the chat.” “You're welcome, Colonel,” Audraya smiled, as she walked towards the hatch. _________________ *Based of of the 2014 Defense Finance and Accounting Service 2014 military pay chart, and assuming no adjustments to annual pay and allowances (Family Separation, Aviation, Submarine/Space duty), a lump sum of roughly 41 million. 19. A View from the Captain's Cabin Aboard the United Nations Spaceship Bounty Audraya floated out of the bridge, and into the rather small captain's cabin...probably the equivalent of an old At Sea cabin from the days of terrestrial navies. A desk and chair, a couple of cabinets with a bunk between them, a private head aft with a largish chunk of blue ice floating with several orbiting fragments. Chuckling quietly to herself, she floated back and turned her attention to the desk area. A couple tablets sat secured to the surface, batteries long since drained. Several photos of a middle aged male and an attractive brunette, presumably his wife, were taped to the bulkhead, including one taken after some semi-official function, with friends photobombing it. At least that was what Scooter thought she was looking it. Granted, the fact that he was wearing an Air Force dress uniform added weight to that hypothesis. “I want to know where they were headed, why they were in cryo sleep, and what happened,” she muttered. Leaving the captain's cabin, Audraya floated quietly out.

  21. Bissote Salvage Stardate 2261.130 Audraya limped into the offices of the deep space recovery company at Harrington station, leaning on her cane. "Can I help you, Commander," the perky young girl behind the counter asked. "Yes, I'd like to know why the Comanche Creek hasn't been brought in to one of the drydocks yet." "Ma'am, we're not scheduled to recover your ship until Tuesday. At least that's what the contract signed by Colonel O'Hara says." She pulled it up on the monitor and showed it to the Commander. "Look, Britanny is it?" She nodded. "That's my ship out there, floating abandoned and dead in space. The faster it gets back into a drydock, the faster it can get repaired, and the faster we can get out of the station's management's hair.” “Ma'am, we'd like to help you, but the contract states that recovery of your ship is scheduled for next Tuesday.” “Even though Comanche Creek was left abandoned and drifting into shipping lanes?” “The contract states...” “Next Tuesday. Yes I get it. Thank you.” Audraya turned, and hobbled out of the contractor's office, cane clicking against the polished metal deck of the station. Grumbling under her breath in Low Kolari, she made her way towards the spaces that the station commander had granted the crew as temporary offices and quarters. “Looks like it'll be next Tuesday...”
