  1. I got to sit in Fred's chair once, and it had two buttons, Red and blue.  Now we know what the red does but what does the blue do?  My theory?  It secretly injects him with morphine to keep him from murdering all his crew.  His chair in the acadmey doesnt have it, and thats why his cadets always die.

And vanroy WHAT is that avatar suposed mean?

During his first mission, he and medical officer Rocko Studly created a cure to the Mji sickness, caused by a simplistic virus that the species had never encountered before.

On Stardate 0309.25 curent Chief of Sciences Lieutenant Sivuk was recalled to Vulcan on alligations of treason against the Vulcan Goverment. Travis was promoted from his rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade to a full Lieutenant, and assigned as Temporary Chief of Sciences, pending the end of Sivuks trials.

Stardate 0310.03: Apon leaving DS6 after completing scheduled shore leave, the USS Reaent encountered a probe which pulled them to the edge of the Beta quadrent, over 25,000 lightyears from home. Durning that time, Travis and the crew of the Reaent found a "subspace river" that the probe used to travel the galaxy, and some rudementary trial and error, the stream deposited them in a number of places, including the Gamma Quadrent, and the edge of the Andromeda Galaxy. It was during this time Travis defied an order three times, to prevent the possible destruction of the ship.

After mastering a way of traveling through the stream, the Reaent returned to the Beta Quadrent, and eventually to Earth. On Stardate 0404.15 Travis was formally demoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade, due to the events that took place on Stardate 0402.05. However, due to a lack of capable officers during the Reaents time at Earth, Travis was given the status of Chief of Sciences, permently.

On Stardate 0407.29 Travis was repromoted to the rank of Lieutenant, reclaiming his lost postition.

  3. All right...Where to begin....ah!  I know!  ::grabs the microphone::

Ok...It has come to my atttention over the last few weeks that people are pming asking how to play with the ACTION statments.  (for privacy i wont name names)  Or the come to me complaining that they're getting yelled at for not following the plot.

Well I'm here to save you.  Well some of you.  I'll first show you an example of an all to common thing i see in the academy...Then I'll teach you what I've learned to play by these mysterious and hard to understand actions.

EXAMPLE 1:  The USS Example is briskly flying through space heading to a peace conference on Rigil 13 ((too many of them))  when all of a suden the peacefull silence is broken by an AENG trying to get some spot light.

CO>  So commander, what do you think of these Pandarians we have been sent to deal with?

XO>  I hear that they are a brutish race that have mysteriously destroyed several starships, along with kipnaping and possible murdering several away teams.

CO>  I trust that the ship is capable of handleing the threat of these aliens?

XO>  Of course sir.  A complete diagnostic was run before we left space dock, every thing should be running in perfect order...

AENG> +CO+ Sir the warp core is about to breach!  But if you'd like I can fix it.

Alright lets stop right there.  I know many people don't think this thing happens but it does, ask any GM or fellow crewmember who makes apperances in the academy.  Now this is mostlikley the worst way to get on a GM.  This is the worst way to ruin your chances at graduating for the night, if ever.  The GM's know that your there and see what you do, even if it's as simple as scrubing plasma conduits.  They dont want to see you jump to the ocasion when it doesnt fit the plot.  Trust me when I that every cadet has his day, and eventually something will happen that will give you the chance to be a hero.

So the bottom line is, the GM's notice when you play well, even if there's seemingly nothing to do.  Save the away team if it stays in the plot, just dont try to do it from cargo bay 3.

In this example the USS Example is under atack by those dasterdly Pandarians, a torpedo breaks through the shields and causes the contament field around the warp core to destabalize.  These next two example show two possible things you could do.  Both are considered right, by standerds of playing in the plot but we'll find out why the AENG from example 1 most likely wont be graduating tonight.

CO>  ACTION: a torpedo breaks through the shield and hits near M.E ((main engineering)) causing the contament field around the warp core to desabilze.

AENG> ::Notices that the core is destablizing and puts a contanment field around it::

Wow.  Real orignal, makes you wonder where the CENG was.  Many cadets protest that since the CENG wasnt in engineering they didn't have to contact him.  Well lets take a look at a better way to handle this.

CO>  ACTION: a torpedo breaks through the shield and hits near M.E ((main engineering)) causing the contament field around the warp core to desabilze.

AENG>::looks at his terminal relising that the core is about to breach, quickly thinking of an idea he hits his commbadge::  +CENG+  Sir!  That last torpedo caused the contament field around the core to destablize!

CENG>  +AENG+ Set up a contament field around the core, and do it fast.

AENG>  ::looks down at his panel finding a problem:: +CENG+ Sir!  We dont have enough power, should I reroute power from the holodeck?

CENG>  +AENG+ Do it, take what power you need and get the field up before we're all killed.

AENG> +CENG+ Aye sir.  ::taps his panels rerouting power and finaly sets up the contanment field.

Definetly better.  He contacted his chief and informed him of the situation, he also found a way to affect the sim with out going out of the plot lines, by draining power from the holodecks.  The GM's create actions like this to see how you handle when forced to think on your feet.  The universal answer to all engineering problems isnt to put a force field around it.  A core breach can't, and shouldn't be taken care of by simply puting a force field around it.

The bottom line is, that when a GM finaly gives you a chance to do something important, don't waste your 15 minutes of fame by only spending 10 seconds puting a force field around it.

Well thats all for now, I hope I helped some, and I seriously hope that you've learned not to hail the captain with a core breach every sim.
