  1. A note to the GM's from the Admiralty: Please don't traumatize our new cadets by killing them EVERY week! (Every other week is quite sufficient)
  2. Moose's post, as usual, is a good, thorough, and easy read to get the basics. Or you could do like I did so many years ago, and just show up to watch a few academies. Just check the schedule, and be there at the right time. Watch the interaction between the players and GM's for a while, then read Moose's post to get the details. It's nothing you have to rush into... but if you DO want to play right away, send a PM to the GM in charge, and ask for a post! If you make a mistake, they'll help you along. That's what they're there for!
  3. True, but I always got the impression from the movies and shows, that site-to-site transport was reserved for emergencies, and much less reliable than using the transporter room. I'm with Admiral McCoy on this one. Scattering your atoms across space is no way to travel!
  4. The folks at Star Trek.com will be the first to point out that the Holodeck is not for the exclusive use of STSF, though we do have scheduled events there that reserve certain times for our use. Anyone is free to sim there during non scheduled times. Do be aware, that just because you say you are "practicing" for STSF sims, that you have no right to tell other players who may already be using the room, that they must leave. The Holodeck is a first come, first serve room (with the exception of those times reserved by STSF on the official schedule). Feel free to run some practice sims with your friends if the room is unoccupied. If you get a large enough group, invite them all to come to one of the scheduled academies! That's how we get our new players!
  5. The third one is a biggie, and particularly apropos to your question. The GM has to commit to do one to do sims EVERY week. Lots of folks count on them showing up, so we are careful, especially when starting up new sims, to be sure it will be a long term commitment to our players. Now, if we have some GM's that are willing and able to do a 2PM weekday sim, every week, of course we'll do it!
  6. OK... One wish, huh? I guess it would have to be... Seat belts. ???
  7. Though I may not be up to Huff or Blurox's standards, I too have a room in my house that is covered with Trek paraphernalia, from well over 100 figures on the walls to ships hanging from the ceilings, to a string of light-up Christmas lights that are miniature TV's with still shots from TOS on them. I have an entire shelf dedicated to the Trek paraphernalia I've received from my online buddies. I have light and sound-working models of tricorders, phasors, communicators from all species and eras. Several of my items are autographed from the Trek Stars, and I have a signed copy of a radio script in which I performed in front of hundreds of fans with William Campbell and Mark Leonard. (To prove you are real nerds you should know who these guys are without looking it up!)
  8. I trust the celebration of the anniversary of the day of your Birth was adequate and enjoyable.
  9. Hmm... maybe one is too many for me, then. I forget stuff that is happening in the sim all the time! Thank goodness for PM's! I can always send a quick message to a friend in the sim, "Hey? Did we already arrive at the planet last week, or are we still on route?" or "Hey? Do you happen to remember where I was?"
  10. Maybe we can stop the Message Board Top Dog from coming somehow? I already know you can't stop the fat, bald man, in the red (OK, maroon) suit. I've tried!
  11. We noticed the rooms in place, and though there were a few people who used them for informal sims from time to time, there were no organized sims, on a regular basis. We contacted paramount (several times) and said, let's organize something, whatdya think? They answered, "A good idea!" From there we hammered out the details and here we are!
  12. True, however, just because you sim as one character in the Academy does not meat you cannot choose another for an Advanced sim. (We even have some people that sim multiple characters on different advanced sims!)
  13. Not to mention, Video Games!
  14. Vote for your favorite First Officer of the Star Trek Series
  15. Nice Hawke! I would love to have one of the Manticore! (Nebula class)
  16. Be sure and check the schedule from time to time as it can change. We are currently considering moving one of the Academies due to GM availability.
  17. Gotta be the Telasians with the love potion tears... And, of course, T'Pol should be the one she cries on! ;-) Now THERE is drama!
  18. And, you know, the writers love it when there are opposite sex CO/XO teams. Rodenberry wanted it from the beginning (he was such a visionary!) when he made Majel the XO, but the stuffed shirts at the time wouldn't have it. If they had only known where that was heading! Some of the best drama of the entire genre! They tried to make light of the Chakotay/Janeway thing, but the fans always secretly wanted the two of them to get together. And don't forget Riker/Shelby, when Picard became Locutus! Riker told his other officers that he needed them right where they were, and that was the reason he made Shelby XO. SURE he did! ;-) And now Archer/T'Pol? The writers are having a field day! (And I imagine Bakula doesn't resent it TOO much! ;-) )
  19. Welcome, Dac. ::Hands her a key to the Executive Washroom:: Sorry, that's the only perq. Now get to work. ::o:
  20. Great, Trek Fan! Just stop by one of the academies on at the scheduled time, and when prompted PM the XO and ask for an OPS spot on the roster! We'll see how good you REALLY are under fire! ::o: Seriously though, simming at the academies is easy. If you have any questions, the GM's will be glad to help! (Be sure to read the "help" section of this webpage before you go!) Welcome aboard!
  21. You are welcome anytime, Hawke! Stop by and SGV sometime! ::o:
  22. Ever since the opening of Star Trek II: the Wrath of Kahn, academies have been notorious for killing officers. The famous Admiral Kirk line to Spock, "Aren't you dead?" is an oft-muttered phrase heard after STSF Academy simulations. ;-) That's the great thing about Holidecks. You can live to sim another day.
  23. If you are talking about the "blank" sims on the schedule (i.e. the ones without GM's listed) there is really no way to tell who will be substituting for them (if anyone is at all) . We do hope to fill the slots quickly, and are still hoping they will be filled soon. In the mean time, stop by and see if there is an academy going on at the given time. (Kinda like checking the window instead of the weather channel to see if it's raining! It's much more accurate!) ::o:
  24. For me, it was just magic. One week I couldn't get into the room, the next I could. I never had a problem at all when I had an old dial up modem, but when I got cable access, it must have been too fast for the room. Last week, it all got better. It's enough to make a Vulcan shrug! ::shrugs::
  25. ..and pay no mind to those thermometer watchers. It's always exactly the right temperature in the Academy classrooms. ::o:
