  1. A tender, elderly hand lowered a lit match and gingerly touched each of five large candles. With a short flick, the flame danced up into the air and dissipated in a trail of smoke. The elder Vulcan set the spent match onto a small tin plate. She steepled her spread fingers before her as her ancestors did in deep meditation.

Closing her eyes, Una Knollwatcher began her vision quest. The dimly lit room she occupied began to dissolve to a place of the past. What was once the walls of the meditation room became long reaches of red sand. What was once a stone cobble floor was now the path towards Vulcans ancient and sacred temple. Within the sacred temple stood the familiar visage of Surek, meticulously carved in marble and poised high above an alter.

Unas sandaled feet were deliberate and even as they climbed the alter stairway. Her mind was clear, purging itself of negativity and alteration, preparing itself for the strict logical teaching it was about to obtain. Tossing her sandals aside, she stepped onto the stone flat before the idol. In a deep, even tone, she spoke the only words to be spoken here:

"Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations." Then the elder Vulcan kneeled, clasped her hands together, and closed her eyes slowly.

Just as before, the scene around her changed, and drained like line of paint into the past. Though now, Una stood in the corridors of the USS Arcadia. Her grand daughter Andrea led her down towards the ships sickbay by the elbow. With even strides, Una closed in the space between herself and the sickbay entrance.

"Just a few more steps, Gram. Ill be on the bridge. This is the ship Starfleet assigned me to helmsman. If you need me, you can comm me, or you can just ask for the Chief Medical Officer or the Counselor."

Una nodded. She stood before the doors of sickbay and waited for them to open. However, when they did, what scene was before them was not that of the sickbay, but of Vulcan again. She was at the alter again, though it was different somehow. Like before, she knelt before the alter and strained to speak:

    "Definite Intricacy in Definite Contortions."

Una looked up at the figure before her in shock. That was not the national symbol.

    "Infant...Infancy..adversity...conflictions..."

Once again, the room faded into the sickbay of the Arcadia. The staff were bustling about in a frenzy to help a new mother who had just given birth. Una raised a brow and stumbled as the realization settled in that she actually knew these people, though she was sure she had never met them.

She grasped her head in pain. "No! Illogical. It is ...Illogical!"

Trying to keep her composure, Una nearly lost consciousness as the pain level elevated. She cried out in agony as a tingling sensation overcame her. It felt as if she was being separated into categories like the dashes and zeros of a computer program. Then, with one electric jolt, Una faded out like a tube.

Andrea gasped. With a flash of the mind, her Grandmothers Katra exited though the nerve endings in her fingers and into the Ark. The ornate box received the elders essence and then closed and sealed itself in one motion. The Medical Chief exhaled completely and collapsed in a heap on the floor.

Only a quick breath brought recovery to her meditation as the pain slipped away.

    And the Ark calmly rests.

    Lt. Cdr. Andrea Knollwatcher

    Chief Medical Officer

    USS Arcadia NCC 1742E

  2. That was done by Jami back when we were already meeting at an ST convention. I don't think anyone wants to wander around Orlando wearing a nametag. Unless we suddenly get 35 people showing up, I think we will just have to remember each other's name as we have done in Vegas.

Thats true. Ill just wear my dogtags. There have been plenty of new players since those were hammered out. I wonder if Jami did (ordered) those too.

  3. Just had a thought, how about a new angle point, but still in a Star Trekkie era. How about what life is like here on Earth? You know how Star Wars showed not just space goings-on, but battles on Earth, too? Star Trek could dedicate a series to Star Trek: Earth, and have all the nuances of what we love about Star Trek. OK, now dont say, "They already did with DS9." Its not the same! =0]

  4. OK, here goes.

"In other news, Lexington Middle School plans on ending on a high note this year as its complete 245 compliment will be subjected to annual exams. Principal Skinner says he's looking forward to Summer break, where he can pass through the clean anals of the school corridors once again. Back to you, Jim."

  5. I assume that like Roddenberry himself, many members of the Star Trek community are either atheist or agnostic, so naturally some are going to have an aversion to the Bajorans and DS9 as a whole.

My favorite parts of Star Trek are the Orb Experiences, the Vision Quests, the Klingon Rituals, the visits to the Temples on Bajor and Vulcan, etc.

My parents are actually hippies but even if they were Christians, there's nothing wrong with handing down the sacred traditions of your culture to your children. My point is whatever you put your faith in, there should be some tolerance for the mystical dimension of Star Trek without making a thinly veiled mockery of someone else's ideas or rejecting them outright.

Well, without getting into a religious discussion, I have to say I am Christian (In that, I mean I believe Christ died for my sins). I enjoy Star Trek, not so much for the visions or rituals, but for the fact that medicine is so much less invasive than in our reality. Though, Im thinking we arent too far from the Star Trek era. Now, they are using lasers to zap vericose veins, cavities, and vision problems. Pretty cool, eh? =0]

  6. However, while brainstorming a couple days back, an idea struck me for a Trek Mini Series. Set in the movie era, with the cold war with the Klingons. You could have a dashing conflict as said randomship stands on the brink of starting a galatic war between the Federation and Klingons.

Oh yeah, interesting concept. How about a whole series from the perspective of the Klingons or Rommies or whomever. Just like we have a Klingon SIM, we might just enjoy a ST: Klingons? Personally, I really enjoy Klingons and Vulcans, and would love to see more of them, but in more of a ST:TNG setting.

  7. Actually, those are my favorite kinds of log writings. I have written several logs about Ensign so-n-so going on about his or her normal StarTrek life, doing mundain tasks as the goings on of the main characters (ours on our starship SIMs) carry on around them. Then, I can write their observations. Or, if we happened to visit a planet with a new civilization, Ill write about a family living on the planet meeting up or hearing about this strange landing party in red, yellow, and blue pajamas. I also gives me a break from my characters progression and a chance to pretend to be someone else's-someone else for a change. =0]

  8. You know how all these forensic science shows hit it off pretty well? Well, I was thinkin, maybe they should create a Star Trek : Forensics. Or something of the sort. Maybe have a crew assembled to solve intergalactic crimes, internal and otherwise? Have some futuristic forensics involved? I would really enjoy something like that in a Star Trek setting. How about you guys? What do you think? =0]

  9. Hey there mates,

Subject does say it all. :P

For those who have ever wondered about some of the chaos of the Reaent, I'd like to point out a new feature of the sim's website.

Pleased to announce the addition of a rather large database. It's an idea gathered from several sims and one that turned out alright. Would love feedback and thoughts on it...

So if you're bored, head over to

www.ussreaent.com and let me know what you think? ;)

Wow, Fred. Absolutely wonderful! You did a great job! =0]

  10. Well, from the looks of the map, The Omni is pretty much to the west of Disney. It's far from the cliche main tourist area, but it's still within 20-30 mins in a car (Depending on that wonderful I-4 traffic) of all the major attractions in Orlando.

    Hope that helps! :P

Cool. Is there some sort of metro line? Or are we slaves to the All-Mighty Cabbie? =0]

  11. Well, I'd like to thank you all for over ridding my choice. I'll make sure to show you guys the same respect in the future.

Oh my goodness, Travis you are right. I apologize, I didnt notice until you said something.

OK, HANG ON FOLKS. ITS REALLY VATRICS NATURAL TURN. Travis Chose Vatric.

Huff, save that pic, its a good one! =0]

    Go Vatric! =0]
