  1. Captain Weyl reveals just how much his Hexaco Drive sucks (about six years of his life for each jump, thanks to his secret alien artifact that powers it) and that he will be accompanying Manticore home in order to make the drive work for us. Reactions ran the gamut, from Surprise (Alt-Brutus) to Revulsion (Jami) to Anger (Faldek) to Interest (Escher) to Concern (Kyle) to Distrust (Precip) to Sadness (A9) to Stony Silence (Sovak). 110221.txt
  2. Interesting stuff, Scooter, made even more interesting by Manticore's regeneration machine - which now seems more possible than ever. There is a story on Organ Regeneration in the March 2011 issue of National Geographic magazine. The full story can be found on their online site - National Geographic.org - do a search on "Organ Regeneration." As the article mentions, the impetus for this research was returning soldiers and their need for replacements. Here's an ear they have produced. A small start, but a start nonetheless. Above: The synthetic scaffold of an ear sits bathed in cartilage-producing cells, part of an effort to grow new ears for wounded soldiers.
  3. =/\= USS MANTICORE BRIEFING #648, STARDATE 51102.14 =/\= In searching for the USS Coxeter, a ship testing the Hexacosichoron 600 Engine as part of the Tesseract Drive project, we found that we never made it home to our real universe. We had been in an alternate universe since before the ion storm that sent us into the Arcturan War. What was left of the USS Manticore of our current universe was only a stationary 5,000 meter "cloud" of 15 cm metallic spheres. Apparently the Alt-Verse Manticore got too close to a Coxeter test. We are now working with the Coxeter crew to install the Hexaco drive on our Manticore in the hope that it can get us home. 110214.txt

We also found a stationary 5,000 meter "cloud" 15 cm metallic spheres that turned out to be what is left of the Manticore of this Universe (it is clearly dangerous to be the Manticore!) We are now working with the Coxeter crew to see if we can use their experimental engine to get us home. 110207.txt
  7. Operations Officer’s Log, Stardate 511102.06 Cmdr JFarrington, MD, PhD USS Manticore NCC-5852-A The PADD on the desk in her quarters loaded with psychological files was enough to make Jami consider retirement. Again. But not in this universe. Not until they got home. If we ever do. “Computer, begin recording,” she said, her tone taking in all the fatigue and not a little frustration of the past few weeks as she accessed the first case file. “With the knowledge that we are still not ‘home’ - in our home universe, the one in which we began a few weeks ago - has come an increase in Counselor Asteria Jaxa’s case load. Actually, it’s doubled, but that’s not much of a surprise.” She stopped paging and began to read. But it only took her a minute to put the PADD aside. “This is the second time we’ve landed in the ‘wrong’ universe - or a different universe, whichever you prefer. The first time we landed smack dab in the middle of the Federation-Arcturan War - which never happened in our history. As soon as we realized something was wrong we traced our jump to its source and tried to jump back the way we came. Quantum physics being what it is, we must have been one quark or one neutrino or one whatever off, because we landed here. In another one, one of an infinite number of possible realities. “Talk among the crew has run the gamut from ‘we’ll never get home’ to ‘let’s stay here and see what we can make of it,’ mostly because in both universes the ship that carried the name Manticore was destroyed. In the words of security officer McFly, ‘The good news is: even if we don't get back to our original universe we now have two others that are Manticore-free we could occupy.’ Resignation to our fate? Putting a positive spin on the situation? And how many alternate realities are there in which the Manticore was destroyed? How many are there in which the Manticore was not destroyed? “There has also been talk of accessing the Federation database to see how our ‘alternate selves’ performed - or if they ever existed.” Jami gave a sigh as she picked up the PADD once more and accessed the quick reference database. “Ensign Greg Mancuso, age 22, stellar cartography... recent Academy graduate cum laude, posted to Manticore just before our jump to the Federation-Arcturan War. Newly married, wondering if he’ll ever see his wife again, ever see the child she is carrying....” She flagged his file and moved on. “MCPO Katrina Harvester, age 35, structural engineer, career officer, several commendations. Mother is terminally ill. She wonders if her mother is alive in this universe, has already died, or if she was ever born. On the edge of mental breakdown. Computer, flag file for immediate attention.” Over the next half hour, Jami had narrowed the field to five urgent cases. She forwarded her findings to Counselor Jaxa, to keep her up to speed and to verify the choices. “As for ship operations, we’re in the process of collecting the pieces of the Hexacosichoron 600 Engine from the USS Coxeter to see if it will work on the Manticore. If it does, there is a chance we can return to our universe....” Or another one. “Computer, end log. Encrypt. File.” Putting her now-cold coffee aside, she picked up the first case file and exited her quarters for engineering, hoping she could find the right words for MCPO Harvester.

We also found a stationary 5,000 meter "cloud" of 15 cm metallic spheres that turned out to be what is left of the Manticore! In further analysis of the spheres, we realized that the reason there are two Manticores is that we are not in our correct universe and that we never made it truly "home" after the last experience in an alternate universe and the Arcturan War. 110131.txt
  12. =/\= USS MANTICORE BRIEFING #645, STARDATE 51101.24 =/\= The Manticore has found the USS Coxeter, a ship testing the Hexacosichoron 600 Engine, as part of the Tesseract Drive project. It is able to travel in four dimensions and arrive at any destination instantaneously. Having first found a stationary 5,000 meter "cloud" of 15 cm metallic spheres, we then discovered the Coxeter herself. It now seems certain that the cloud of metallic spheres is what is left of the Manticore! The senior staff of the Coxeter is coming over to the Manticore so that both crews' command teams can try to decipher how it is possible for the Manticore to have been destroyed and still exist whole. At least now we know why the Coxeter Bridge crew reacted to our presence the way they did. Now how do we all react about this? 110124.txt
  13. The Cadets of the elite Red Mace Squadron, currently assigned to the USS Fort Mifflin ( Steamrunner class), are on deep space assignment manuevers along the frontier border lands of the Alpha Quadrant. While on patrol, the USS Fort Mifflin encountered a cascade systems failure due to a problem with one of the standard computer programs. For now, life support and gravity are still functioning, though we have limited access to the systems. Other systems thoughout the ship are compromised as well and we are drifting. =/\=Starfleet Academy Roster =/\= =/\=1/25/2011 =/\= Game Master (GM) - Capt Calestorm Game Master (GM) - Cmdr JFarrington Mission Commanding Officer (MCO) - Capt Calestorm Mission Executive Officer (MXO) - Caden Finlay Helm/Operations Officer (HOPS) - cdt. A Manticore away team, onboard their ship, has found a Bridge recording showing them testing their engine and turning another ship into that field of metallic balls. 17. USS Manticore Mission Update for January 3, 2011 We have found the USS Coxeter and made contact with Captain Hermann Weyl, whose reaction appeared to be nothing less than a spectacular mental breakdown. They have disassembled their tesseract drive and, for some reason, believe they can outrun the Manticore via impulse, which tells us that neither the ship nor the bridge crew is operating on all thrusters. Believing there may be some connection between their aberrant behavior and the tesseract drive, or that they have encountered some kind of mind-altering infection, an away team in full EVA protocol has boarded the Coxeter. Only one bridge officer, a Vulcan science officer by the name of t’Pak, seems to be unaffected by the problem. After passing three levels of security protocol, Captain Sovak will be given access to their logs and all scientific data pertaining to the tesseract drive. TBS was 10 minutes. On the away team are: * Captain Sovak * Commander Precip * Lt Cmdr Kenickie * Security NPCs Bauer, Bull, and Sleet * Lt Cmdr Faldek * Engineering NPC Manny * Counselor Asteria Jaxa * Dr. Vilanne Chalice

  19. =/\= USS MANTICORE BRIEFING #642, STARDATE 51101.03 =/\= The Manticore was sent to find the USS Coxeter, a ship testing the Hexacosichoron 600 Engine, as part of the Tesseract Drive project. If successful, it would be able to travel in four dimensions and arrive at any destination instantaneously. The Coxeter has not reported in for weeks. Following a trail of anti-neutrons, we arrived at a stationary 5,000 meter "cloud" of 15 cm metallic spheres that we feared was the remnants of the ship. We then discovered an impulse engine trail that has lled us to...the Coxeter. When we hailed them, they reacted with abject fear and are trying to run away at impulse speed. 110103.txt
  20. A Happy, though belated, New Year to everyone! Be well. Be safe.
  21. The Unexpected It wasn’t exactly the reaction she expected. Even his reputation for weirdness didn’t prepare her for it. Jami Farrington had always wanted to meet Captain Hermann Weyl. Though his work was always hush-hush super-secret and no one ever knew exactly what he was working on, his reputation had grown within the scientific community as one of the most creative innovators in the field of starship propulsion. And he was reclusive, which garnered all kinds of rumors bordering on legend, which, in turn, made meeting him all the more intriguing. Reclusive and creative was one thing, but this? Even in the glorious 3-D HD technicolor of Manticore’s viewscreen, Weyl’s face showed stark white and his eyes widened in... terror? His hands clutched the arms of Coxeter’s command chair as if in a death grip just before he recoiled, bolting out of it, trying to hide. Coxeter was traveling on impulse, and tactical sensors showed their tesseract drive had been disassembled. It looked like they’d have a long trip home if Manticore didn’t make like a tug boat, or at the very least see if they could help. And they’d been sent to find them, so they sent a hail. Weyl’s anguished scream echoed as far as the Delta Quadrant, lingering well after he stopped and curled into a semi-fetal position behind his command chair. A palpable silence fell on Manticore’s bridge as the crew stared at the screen, trying to process what they’d just seen, to put it into context and come up with some kind of reasonable explanation, after which came Admiral Atragon’s tentative query... “Captain Weyl? Is everything all right?” ...followed by Commander Precip’s dry Bolian report. “We are still at red alert status, Admiral. And I am glad to say that.” Jami was glad as well, as she took stock of Coxeter’s bridge crew via Manticore’s viewscreen. Behind Weyl, Coxeter’s chief engineer seemed frozen in place, his hands on the main engineering console, his expression mirroring Weyl’s, though he had yet to assume a fetal position. Jami half wondered if he’d faint, and if he did, if he’d hit his head. To the right, the operations officer sat, mouth open, her face almost as pale as the captain’s. On the left, the helmsman knelt beneath his console, access panel in hand, caught half-way to inserting it, his eyes a blank stare as though he couldn't process what was happening. The same scene played across Coxeter’s bridge, emotions from dumbfounded to abject fear, with the sole exception of a Vulcan science officer who blocked the entrance to the lift as she furrowed her brow in concentration, her eyes fixed on Jami. Weyl’s last words came as a shuddering, frenetic, “No....” ...at which point communications were cut and a quiet query came from T’Prise at Manticore’s science station. “I assume that this sort of behavior is abnormal for Captain Weyl?” “His reaction was severe, and no one on his bridge thought it was unusual. And they are taking apart their ship’s engine,” Atragon said in reply before ordering an away team to investigate the possibility that the tesseract drive had caused some kind of mental aberration. Jami relaxed at her position and puffed out a long sigh. This was not the way she imagined meeting Captain Weyl, and definitely not the reaction she expected.
