  1. Conundrum Security's detention area was fairly quiet at 20:00. Only a few officers were on watch, some standing by retaining cells and a few monitoring the corridor. Normally the captain would be in CnC finishing reports and reading dispatches that were required, boring, and had nothing to do with Aegis. This evening she was in the security complex, watching the gremlins play. Since they were docile and inquisitive, all six that had been found on station were in the same holding cell, and all had been given tablets. Extra berthing had been furnished, but apparently a bunk bed was not their style. After extensive pulling and wrapping, they transformed their bunks into nests. Gremlin chatter was a mix of humming, clacking their teeth, moving their lips in various ways, and hand waving. Occasionally, a few examined the force field by touching it—not exactly the best thing to do—or tossing an energy bar at it. One examined it extensively, possibly wondering why he could see through it but could not walk through it. Following Gramil’s directions, they painted pictures of female gremlins, families, homes, night skies, and one starship, which was interesting enough to give Kirel pause. Lt Jeremy Garand, Security’s Interim Chief, walked up next to Kirel. PADD in hand, he waited for her attention. “They're small, Lieutenant,” Kirel began without turning, "like very young children. They're docile. They scramble easily through hidden parts of the station, much like the Ghost Squad. And, like children, they love chocolate.” Garand chuckled. “Can’t blame them, Captain. Chocolate's my favorite too.” “I see,” she replied, lifting a brow as she glanced in his direction. He shrugged. “It's the same with most humans, ma’am. That’s why the energy bars are locked up. They’re too tempting.” “Of course.” She nodded. “However, I can understand enjoying it, but making it their staple could not possibly be healthy… or so I have heard. They have been offered vegetables, fruits, edible plants, and a few other things, but they are not interested. However,” she mused, “energy bars do furnish nutrients essential for survival.” “True, Captain. And the air is clearing. I’ll bet that the chocolate—or whatever else is in the bar—might have something to do with it.” “Hm…. Possible,” she mused. “Or engineering has found a fix.” “Or that, ma’am.” "You have something for me, Lieutenant?" she asked, turning away from the force field. “Yes, ma’am. Word from Starfleet Intelligence.” He handed her the PADD. As she paged through it, her expression changed from relaxed to concerned. “Well, it seems that they will be our guests for a while. Thanks to Gremil’s sketching, we pinpointed their home world. However, it is inside the nebula ring, and very close to Drakel’a. It would be dangerous for them and for us to attempt....” After a long, contemplative pause she glanced at the gremlin that was still painting the one starship it had worked on for a while. The ship was vaguely familiar. After passing the PADD back to Garand, Kirel pulled her tablet from its clip and began to page through it. “Lieutenant, has security discovered how these beings came aboard?” “Not so far, ma’am. The last report said they came aboard somewhere on deck 188.” “On a ship? A shuttle? Another means?” She continued to thumb through the tablet. “None of those, as far as the report indicates, ma’am.” “Isn’t that a little odd, Lieutenant?” Having found what she was looking for, she stopped to wait for his answer. He seemed stymied. “I will take that as a yes, Lieutenant. “To get the beings aboard, they could not have used a transporter beam. Therefore, there must have been something and someone to bring them aboard. The someone is what we are looking for. If the beings respond to any of these images we will have much more information.” Holding up her tablet, Kirel approached the force field. The gremlins were absorbed in their play and didn’t seem to notice her standing there until one looked up. Its eyes widened, it poked the others, and they approached the force field. The image of a Terran woman dressed in leather, a sword at her side, bat’leth in hand, and several other weapons draped across her chest seemed to intrigue them. Her expression was challenging, almost deadly. The gremlins were more interested in her face, hair, and clothes. Their heads tilted, they chattered and pointed for a while then looked up at Kirel. She flipped to the image of a massive, threatening male humanoid of mixed species. He was similarly dressed, held different but antagonizing weapons, and his expression was challenging. Again, the gremlins were interested, tilting their heads, chattering, and pointing to various areas of the image. Nothing more. Excitement grew as they waited for the third image. As soon as it appeared, they gasped, backed off, and went into high-pitched screams. Their screams alerted the officers on watch. Within seconds, a Quick Reaction Force raced down the corridor. By then, the gremlins had huddled together in their nests in silence, some whimpering and shaking, definitely traumatized. Kirel had closed her tablet within seconds of their screams, but it took them a long time to settle down. Garand had backed off and covered his ears. When the noise subsided Kirel turned to the reaction force and ordered them to stand down. The tablet revealed the horrific image of a tall, massive humanoid clad in leather and carrying some of the most deadly weapons in the galaxy, ranging from disruptors and handmade plasma weapons to explosives and assorted caustic acid bombs. Several knives glistened in the ambient light. Kirel sighed and took a deep breath, wishing she had not shown the image, but glad they had furnished the information. Now she had something to go on, as horrendous as it was. “Gentlemen,” she began, flicking open the tablet, “if you are not familiar with this person, you soon will be. His name is Kran Magkor, Ragor Tal’s primary assassin and a master of torture. "According to Starfleet Security, his ship is highly advanced, probably furnished by the Alien Alliance. From the gremlins’ reaction, I would say that they are very familiar with him, which means that these small, innocent beings did not wander here, they were either brought here or sent here. They were used. They were ignorant of their purpose, and they will be given sanctuary. “Lieutenant Garand, security is now at condition yellow. If no one has identified the purpose of the metal stored in the storage room on deck 188, the Ordnance Disposal Unit will examine it immediately. Deck 188 is now off limits. Our cover will be that we are refurbishing the area. Everything will be done quietly so we do not begin a riot on the station. Understood?” “Understood,” he replied. "I will inform Starfleet Intelligence and Aegis Command. Questions?” “No, ma’am.” “Very well. Ensign Schmidt, inform Dr Pavilion that the gremlins have been traumatized and need attention. If she questions the purpose, send her to me. If nothing else, carry on. I will be in my office.”

  3. Mission Brief | Sky Harbor Aegis | 6 September 2019 23 May 2388 - Stardate 2388.144 TBS is 1 hour. The time is 0900 hours (9:00 am) Aegis Local. For the most part, work on the station has run smoothly. USS Toronto is in orbit; her task force is in the area. USS Calgary and task force will arrive soon to take Toronto’s place. Gremil is making progress in communication. His friends have found him and are making the best of it. Unfortunately, their odor leaves quite a bit to be desired. In an effort to help the station, the Ghost Squad is out and about. Jake and Billy were trying to find out how the gremlins sneak into the station, and they had a close encounter of the gremlin kind. The gremlin’s surprise resulted in a skunk-like spray that will stay with them for some time.
  4. Gremil & Company Chirakis Kirel For the last few days, work on the station had run smoothly. Then came the stench: a rancid smell that seemed to grow exponentially, filling the station with the odor of our little gremlin friend, now known as Gremil. The more frightened he became, the more odor he produced. The more relaxed he became, the less odor he produced. A few days ago Dr. Pavilion’s gentle hand—augmented by chocolate—had relaxed him enough to attempt communication. She sat with him for several hours and made exceptional progress not only in communication but in his desire to learn. He was inquisitive by nature. For the most part, his stench had subsided. But now? The stench had become unbearable and the atmospheric scrubber had reached its limit. The captain would have opened the windows if possible, but that’s not exactly a good thing to do in space. Instead she stood by the window, arms crossed, and allowed her mind to wander. Aegis’s fighters shot from the bay in combat formation—some to relieve the watch, and some for maneuvers. In the distance, USS Toronto orbited, ready to defend if necessary. Soon USS Calgary would take her place, giving Kirel the opportunity to visit Captain DeVoll and Commander Wexler for a while. However, she doubted that they would enjoy visiting the station without gas masks. After all, station personnel had resorted to gas masks, and anyone who was due for liberty decided to take it—off station. And that thought broke her mood. She sighed as she returned to her desk, settling in to pull up and page through the latest reports—at least those that mattered. “Captain Chirakis, ma’am?” The voice of Ltjg Brody calling from the brig broke her train of thought—not that it mattered since she hated dealing with reports. Putting aside her tablet to engage the viewscreen, she noticed that he seemed flustered. No, he was flustered. “Yes, Mr Brody?” “We’ve… uh… figured out where the smell is coming from.” There was a long pause. “And?” “It’s coming from down here, ma’am.” Which is what she expected, since no other creature or concoction would produce such a smell. At least, she hoped it wouldn’t. “Is Gremil excited or anxious?” “I’d say so ma’am. Not as much anxious as excited.” Not as much anxious as excited. “Is Doctor Pavilion visiting, or Doctor Davis?” “No ma’am. They haven’t been here for a while.” After a moment of thought accompanied by finger-drumming on her desk, she replied, “Very well,” with a casual gesture. “Lieutenant Garand has a stash of chocolate energy bars in pantry five. That should settle him down.” “Oh, I would, ma’am, except that the lieutenant is dealing with a situation, and we don’t have the code.” The code. Of course. And we coded the stash because it seems to disappear very quickly. Noting the pile of reports that had come across her desk in the last 24 hours, she wondered if leaving them undone would be appropriate, or passing them on to her executive officer. Then she remembered the more pressing issues that Commander Coleridge was dealing with at the moment and decided otherwise. “Give me a few minutes to sort a few things out up here and I’ll be down” “Yes, ma’am. We’ll try to keep them occupied.” And that caught her attention. “Them, Mr Brody?” After a slight pause, he took a deep breath and replied, “Yes, ma’am.” “Just how many are we talking about, Mr Brody? And how in Sto'Vo'Kor did they get in?” She growled, pressing the security alert button on her desk. Brody winced when the alarm sounded and the security complex became a combat zone. “So far we have three, ma’am. And we’re tracking down their entrance, but we...” “I’ll be right down.” * * * * * * * The Ghost Squad was back in business. Jake and Billy—who skipped school today because ‘they didn’t feel good’—were on the hunt, their faces and arms streaked awkwardly with camouflage colors, determined to “save Aegis from the gremlins”. And it was exciting. “Gees, Jake. We shoulda gotten some of those masks, like… you know… gas masks.” Jake tossed Billy a determined look. His eyes narrowed while he listened for any sound in the crawl way below decks. “We’re on a mission, Billy,” he whispered. “We need to find out how they get into the station. I mean... if they can get in to the station, anyone and anything can get in, right?” Billy’s face scrunched and he nodded. “Yeah, I know that. But just the… what is it…?” “Kefiya,” Jake replied with an eyeroll. “I got a larger one called a shemagh, but couldn’t find it in the closet. I think my mom might have thrown it out. She said it smelled.” “Yeah. Okay. Kefiya. Like they use in the desert on underdeveloped planets, right?” Billy’s eyes brightened. “Or when Special Operations needs to look like the natives?” “Yeah,” grinned Jake. “SpecOps, like what we’re doing. Anyway, we’re using 'em ‘cause if we get gas masks, they’ll know we’re not really sick.” “But we aren’t sick, Jake. We coulda grabbed a mask on the way out.” Another eye-roll and Jake continued his crawl. “And deal with El Tee Garand. Right.” Billy sighed and followed along, turning corners and climbing into hatchways toward the storeroom that was once their clubhouse. The closer they got to the storeroom, the more potent the smell, making it almost unbearable. But they pushed on until Jake froze and flung his arm back, pinning Billy to the wall. He put a finger to his lips. They listened. Not far away and around a corner they heard scratches, then mumbling. Inching forward as quietly as they could—which wasn’t very quiet at all—they came to a corner and stopped… just in time for a gremlin to turn it, meet them eye to eye, and give a high-pitched screech and a powerful skunk-like spray that coated the two boys head to toe. The gremlin scampered one way. Jake and Billy scrambled the other way, to the closest hatch, flew it open, and dived through it to the next level, and then the next level, finally coming to a stop they thought would be safe. Jake wiped the sweat from his forehead, smearing his camouflage face paint. Billy wiped it off with the sleeves of his camo uniform. They both leaned against the wall to catch their breath. And of course, since the gremlin sprayed them, they couldn’t smell it… but everyone else definitely would. “Gees, Jake. We gotta tell the El Tee,” said Billy as soon as he could breathe. “Forget the El Tee, Billy. We gotta tell the captain.”

Cdr Wyatt Cayne: :: clears throat :: How good are you folks at alterations? Scott Coleridge: ::standing next to Chirakis' desk:: Chirakis: Indeed. Commander Coleridge, proceed. Scott Coleridge: Dr. Pavilion, following the briefing yesterday, you now understand the precarious balance of power in this region? Chirakis: ::her expression is dour::: mimipavilion: ::nods:: Dacia Sandero: Alterations? Like changing one's appearance? Tarisa: ::Takes the PADD she had grabbed, and headed for the lift once a replacement crewman arrived.:: Fletcher Jackson: ::Jylliene:: Coffee, ma'am? :::stands to refresh his cup::: Scott Coleridge: Starfleet Intelligence will be tasking additional resources to this region soon. Captain Chirakis and I have decided that we will need someone with the appropriate clearance and track record to review the daily reports that will be arriving from now on. Jylliene: That would be welcome. Fletcher Jackson: You got it, ma'am. Donut? mimipavilion: ::gets a little suspicious:: Alright? Jylliene: Gladly, if there is one. Fletcher Jackson: Yes, ma'am. Chocolate? Sprinkles? Jelly? Tarisa: ::Takes the lift to Life Sciences level.:: Jylliene: Surprise me. Jylliene: ::grins:: Scott Coleridge: ::Chirakis:: Would you say Dr. Pavilion has sufficient experience, Captain? Has she served on Aegis long enough? Fletcher Jackson: ::smirk:: You sure about that, ma'am? Cdr Wyatt Cayne: :: to Sandero :: I'm thinking something so I can pass a scanner. Jylliene: I am. Jylliene: ::chuckles:: Chirakis: ::considers that a moment::: I would say she has more than sufficient experience, Commander. And it's not a matter of time served on Aegis, it is a matter of control, discipline, and focus. Tarisa: ::Enters the Lab.:: Dacia Sandero: Okay. A very good scanner, I imagine? Well, I think it's possible Scott Coleridge: Good point. Chirakis: Although, she does have considerable time served. Jylliene: ::returns attention to the console:: Nijil tr'Korjata: :: to himself :: I feel like Atlas from my daughter's Cultures of the Federation class. Fletcher Jackson: :::chooses her favorite donut, wraps it in a napkin, and fills her cup::: mimipavilion: ::looks between the two:: Chirakis: Proceed, Commander. Scott Coleridge: That being said... the position would take up a lot of time. And we know you're already quite busy as the chief medical officer. Scott Coleridge: So we will be finding another. Cdr Wyatt Cayne: I may need some alterations on a genetic level that may be... challenging to undo. Fletcher Jackson: :::steps down ,trying not to spill anything::: Here you go, ma'am. :::sets it down next to her::: Jylliene: Thank you, Mr. Jackson. Jylliene: I appreciate it. Fletcher Jackson: Any time, ma'am. Scott Coleridge: Instead, we've called you here to recognize your long and dedicated service to Aegis by promoting you to the rank of full Commander, with all rights, responsibilities, and perquisites thereof. Dacia Sandero: ::glances at Cayne:: Hmm.. I see. What'd you have in mind? Chirakis: ::Hands him the box::: mimipavilion: ::surprised:: Scott Coleridge: ::takes the box, opening it to reveal the solid gold pin:: Cdr Wyatt Cayne: I don't want something on the friendly side, something on the adversarial side.. :: shakes head :: Something I'll have to practice. Common. Tarisa: :;Walking around the lab, stopping at a few projects that were in progress.:: Fletcher Jackson: ::goes to fill his own mug::: Scott Coleridge: If I may, Doctor? mimipavilion: ::nods:: Scott Coleridge: ::removes the black and gold pip and pins on the new gold one:: Congratulations. mimipavilion: Thanks. Just to let you know, I've been a Cardassian. Chirakis: By the authority vested in my by Starfleet Command, I give you Commander Pavilion. Tarisa: ::Taking interest a project at the end of the table. It was in an incubator.:: Jylliene: ::grins at attention:: Dacia Sandero: Hm. What was that like? Sorry, never mind. Anything particular in mind? I dunno.. Species 8472? Cdr Wyatt Cayne: I was very convincing. Chirakis: Thank you, Doctor. :::to the rest:: As you were. Dacia Sandero: That's nice. Tarisa: Miana> ::Eating her breakfast as well.:: Chirakis: :::Scott, just as she turns to enter her office::: Commander... that is a very strange and potent smell. Chirakis: ::slight cough::: Very potent. Dacia Sandero: Err, probably not unless you took lessons from Odo. mimipavilion: ::leaving and hears Chirakis:: Chirakis: Inform engineering that there is a problem with the internal ventilation system. Scott Coleridge: What? ::shifts over and sniffs:: Oh. Oh yes. mimipavilion: ::enters the tl and orders it to medical:: Fletcher Jackson: ::his headset was on, so he didn't notice anything until he sipped his coffee:: Dacia Sandero: But, I think we have the tech on hand to perform a pretty good guise. I hope Dr. Pavilion is more familiar with this aspect though. I've never done anything like this before myself. mimipavilion: ::arrives back in medical and goes to find Dacia:: Scott Coleridge: If there's nothing else, I'll get back to reports and updating duty rosters. Chirakis: Very well. Carry on. Fletcher Jackson: ::sniffs the cup, puts it aside, then smells the air::: Alexis McFarland: ::reading a note from her parents, that they should be arriving sometime next week. Cdr Wyatt Cayne: Something for the future Doctor. Fletcher Jackson: ::doesn't want any more coffee::: Nijil tr'Korjata: +Ops+ I'll have to get the environ teams on the case. Fletcher Jackson: ::or donut, or whatever:: Jylliene: +Eng+ The more quickly, the better, before everyone up here gets sick. mimipavilion: Ok, we'll just need to discuss in detail to decide whether or not it's a no go. Chirakis: For those of you who are not familiar with Dr Pavilion, she has been on Aegis for 596 simulations, missing only one when the power went out. Chirakis: You do the math as to the number of years. Chirakis: That said, TBS will be 1 hour. Tarisa: How many gold leaves are cluttering the closet? Chirakis: Too many. Her closet is overflowing. We'll have to get her a new one. Chirakis: Commander Coleridge, words for the crew? Scott Coleridge: Nope Chirakis: Comments or questions from the crew? Chirakis: Seeing none... Chirakis: Crew dismissed. Be well. Be Safe. Don’t forget your towel.
  6. Mission Brief | Sky Harbor Aegis | 30 August 2019 23 May 2388 - Stardate 2388.144 TBS is 17 hours. The time is 0700 hours (7:00 am) Aegis Local. At the urging of Starfleet Intelligence, Captain Chirakis has revealed classified information to the command crew. According to intelligence reports, The Alien Alliance is taking over planetoids and large asteroids in strategic positions and forming a cordon around the Joint Allied Powers. They will then assume control of Aegis, use it as a base of operations, and conquer most of the Alpha Quadrant. Border Patrol Strike Forces led by USS Missouri, USS Iowa, USS Toronto, and USS Calgary take turns supplying Aegis with a physical presence and a formidable defense. Aegis’s defense grid has undergone extensive upgrading. Aegis Security is planted throughout the station, watching for signs of infiltration. Our gremlin’s ability to communicate is improving. He has shown no hostility and seems to be very interested in the varied species on Aegis. At sim begin, everything is moving smoothly—a welcome change from the last few weeks.
  7. =/\= Aegis Mission Brief 8/23/2019=/\= 22 May 2388 - Stardate 2388.143 TBS was 24 hours. The time is 1400 hours (2:00 pm) Aegis Local. The crew of Aegean has returned to duty. At sim begin, everyone should be in the conference room waiting for Captain Chirakis to arrive. Chirakis: =/\=BEGIN SIM=/\= Chirakis: =/\=BEGIN SIM=/\= Jylliene: ::in the conference room, waiting, etc.:: mimipavilion: ::in the conference room:: Chirakis: :::finalizing a few things before entering::: Tae'Lynn Dran: ::also in conference room, waiting:: Chirakis: ::stands and leaves her office, accompanied by Lt Garand:: Chirakis: ::As she enters, the captain is exceptionally focused as she approaches the table. Lt Garand is behind her and stops outside the door as it closes.::: Chirakis: ::after taking her seat, she pauses to consider::: Dacia Sandero: ::in the conference room as well:: Chirakis: ::a thoughtful sigh escapes before she begins::: What I am about to tell you is highly classified. What is said in this room will stay in this room. Anything said here will not be discussed outside of this room, even in private. If this information does not remain private, the results could be disastrous to Aegis and to the Federation. Is that clear? mimipavilion: ::nods:: Jylliene: ::nods:: Chirakis: ::checks the room for reactions::: Chirakis: Very well. We will proceed. Save your questions until I have finished. Chirakis: To begin, the disappearance of the Breen freed millions of enslaved species. Most are friendly and are looking for lives of peace and prosperity. However, the disappearance of the Breen created a void. Where there is a void, there is someone ready to fill it. Several nefarious groups have stepped forward. Some are still in Breen space, but others have begun to explore the galaxy, especially the Alpha Quadrant. Chirakis: So far we have uncovered several plots, the first being the use of the nebular string that leads from Breen space through the Alpha Quadrant into Allied space. Nijil tr'Korjata: :: Sitting :: Chirakis: ::She swivels her chair to face the conference viewscreen. The nebula string is prominent. Several planets, planetoids, and large asteroids are highlighted. Two planets in particular stand out.:: Chirakis: Most aliens within the nebular string are hostile. The planets we know of are highlighted onscreen, the most important being An-Ward and Drakel’a. Most of you are familiar with An-Ward. As for Drakel’a, it has always been a way-station for organized crime, but their most recent growth points to the Alien Alliance. Other highlighted planetoids and asteroids have bases that point to the Alien Alliance. And... as you will notice... form a circle within the nebular string. Chirakis: ::the screen zooms out to reveal Aegis's position, which is close to the nebular string:: Chirakis: Most of the Joint Allied Power’s command centers are inside that circle. Aegis is just outside it. We believe that their plan is to take over the station and use it as their command center to conquer the Federation and Joint Allied Powers. Dacia Sandero: ::looks at the screen:: Chirakis: ::she pauses to allow that to sink in::: mimipavilion: ::nose flares a bit:: Dacia Sandero: ::rubs chin:: Jylliene: ::is not terribly thrilled with this news:: Chirakis: Yes, we may be in great danger. However, we do have task forces and other means to protect ourselves. Chirakis: Given this information, you should understand why it may not be spoken of outside this room. Cdr Wyatt Cayne: :: Listening :: Chirakis: ::turns to Cayne::: Commander Cayne, have you anything to add? Cdr Wyatt Cayne: What is even more disturbing is our lack of true intelligence within that circle. Chirakis: Explain. Cdr Wyatt Cayne: Federation personnel are harder to place in places of interest. Chirakis: :::thinking of his encounters on Drakel'a::: Chirakis: True. Cdr Wyatt Cayne: Humans are rather rare in their space and we can be easy to spot. Cdr Wyatt Cayne: It might take some doing to get inside their space Cdr Wyatt Cayne: I've done some of this before, but... this would be different Cdr Wyatt Cayne: For now we are securing the station, increasing our patrols along the perimeter and beyond., Cdr Wyatt Cayne: :: walks :: Keeping this from the station at large will be...difficult. Chirakis: Indeed. That is why only a few have been given clearance. Chirakis: However.... Chirakis: We also suspect that there are a few on the station who are tampering with equipment... testing the waters, as Terrans say. Chirakis: Security and Engineering are on top of that. Chirakis: ::slight wave of her hand::: Anything else? Dacia Sandero: ::glances around the room:: Cdr Wyatt Cayne: Other than I am looking into more drastic methods of gathering intel, no. Chirakis: ::she nods:: Thank you, Commander. ::she turns to Lt Dran:: Lieutenant, have you information concerning the star you were investigating? Nijil tr'Korjata: :: Gives Jylliene a look :: Tae'Lynn Dran: Testing is still underway. Of the matter that I believe concerns this meeting, it is a little harder to answer. Chirakis: Perhaps I should rephrase... Tae'Lynn Dran: We have not determined if the pulses from the star are completely natural or not. Tae'Lynn Dran: But, all evidence shows that it has been underway for sometime. If it is not natural then it was started very, very long ago. Chirakis: :::she nods::: Tae'Lynn Dran: Anything beyond that at this point it speculation. Chirakis: Understood. Chirakis: ::then she turns to the rest of the crew::: Questions? Nijil tr'Korjata: We should have plans in place if things go...badly. People off the station. Chirakis: ::tr’Korjata:: Agreed. And Security is tasked with that, Commander Korjata. If you have any ideas, voice them, and if they work, we will implement them. Chirakis: Also, each family should prepare. However, if done station wide it will be called a simple security test and nothing else. Nijil tr'Korjata: :: Nods :: mimipavilion: Does the visitor in security have anything to do with the Alliance? Chirakis: Dr Pavilion, we do not know if the visitor in security has anything to do with the Alliance. mimipavilion: ::nods:: Dacia Sandero: ::listens and nods:: Chirakis: However, considering your medical complex, you are always prepared for attacks. I suggest you continue your training as usual. Chirakis: :::Dacia:: Questions? Concerns? mimipavilion: Of course Dacia Sandero: Not at this time, that hadn't already been answered Chirakis: ::nods and turns to Jylliene:: Commander Kital? Jylliene: None, ma'am Chirakis: ::looks around the room::: Anyone else? Chirakis: Very well. All of you have been given the highest security clearance to be read in on this information. Therefore, I repeat.... If this information does not remain private, the results could be disastrous to Aegis and to the Federation. Dacia Sandero: ::nods:: mimipavilion: ::nods:: Nijil tr'Korjata: :: Has a thought regarding Annisha... :: Chirakis: Crew dismissed. Return to your duties as though we had an ordinary meeting. Guard your expressions. Chirakis: +Garand+ Release the door. Chirakis: ::the door is released so anyone can leave... or stay if needed::: Tae'Lynn Dran: ::stands and moves for the exit:: Chirakis: ::she stands:: Commander Cayne, you have the con. Jylliene: ::rises, returns to her station in the CnC:: Dacia Sandero: ::ponders everything that was said though as she returns back to the sickbay:: mimipavilion: ::stands and leaves:: Tae'Lynn Dran: ::moves to the science station and checks the latest reports:: Cdr Wyatt Cayne: :: Reading something on his PADD :: Cdr Wyatt Cayne: Aye Captain. Annisha and I are playing a game of galactic conquest... perhaps if I model the game to our current situation it could provide some insight to tactics we have not thought of...she'd play the villain of course. Cdr Wyatt Cayne: ::: Has the con :: Chirakis: :::she wanders by Commander Korjata::: Commander... a word. In my office. Jylliene: ::is somewhat glad Chirakis did that. I understand your concern for your family. We all have those concerns. However, you must guard your words and your expressions. Your daughter is very cognizant. Only two words and you would have to explain when she asks, "What current situation." Not that you would say that, but it might just slip out. Chirakis: Guard your words. Nijil tr'Korjata: Did I say I would say that to her? Chirakis: You did not. However, in CnC, in the presence of other officers, you said it Chirakis: If not now, they soon would wonder what you meant when you asked your bondmate about "the current situation." Nijil tr'Korjata: Fine Captain. Chirakis: Two words. That's all it takes. Nijil tr'Korjata: I think it takes far less than that. Chirakis: ::she nods::: Very well. Dismissed. Chirakis: Chewing on it and saying is could be the same, I agree. Again, wording. Chirakis: Anything else? Chirakis: Very well. Crew dismissed. Be well. Be Safe. Don’t forget your towel.
  8. Mission Brief | Sky Harbor Aegis | 23 August 2019 22 May 2388 - Stardate 2388.143 TBS is 24 hours. The time is 1400 hours (2:00 pm) Aegis Local. After several days of rest and recuperation, most of the crew has returned to duty. Science continues to examine their lab results. Medical is completing their records. Engineering and security are keeping a close eye on equipment malfunctions. The captain has called the crew (everyone) to the conference room to reveal a classified situation regarding the Alien Alliance, its threat to the Joint Allied Powers in general and Aegis in particular.
  9. On the 18th of August in the year 1985, Starbase Aegis was born. Then located in the Canar System, it has since undergone two incarnations: Deep Space Aegis, and the present Sky Harbor Aegis. The station and its crew have endured the Dominion, the Klingon, and the Cardassian Wars, plus countless other threats from within and outside the bounds of Federation space and that of the Joint Allied Powers. The Breen have disappeared, a byproduct of their experimentation with subspace travel. However when one oppressive tyrant is destroyed, another is always ready to take its place. As we open Season 25, the date is 21 May 2388 - Stardate 2388.142. Sky Harbor Aegis is a new station. The old one has been removed for scrap. She is now a strategic base that stands watch between known and unknown space. Several species who were former slaves of the Breen are now free and have formed what we know as the Alien Alliance. Led by a powerful group whose resources and abilities have yet to be revealed, the Alien Alliance is building bases on asteroids and planetoids within a string of nebulae that allows them stealth passage from their space to that of the Joint Allied Powers. Presently, their aim is to form a cordon around the Joint Allied Powers, take over Aegis, and use it as a staging ground to conquer the Federation and the Joint Allied Powers. Happy Birthday, Aegis. Q'plah!

Chirakis: ::looks up to Cayne, blanks her screen and moves to the commerce deck window::: Alexis McFarland: Yeah, you're really good at it Miana. Chirakis: Well, now... It is a celebration. At the center is a one deck high cake of Aegis? Alexis McFarland: (oooh!) Fletcher Jackson: ::blink:: Cake? Cdr Wyatt Cayne: Sounds like a lot of clean :: sees her leave, follows :: Jylliene: That explains those requisitions. Chirakis: And we are to attend. Tarisa: ::Looks up.:: Jylliene: ::glances at Jackson:: Might make sure you take it easy on the cake. I don't yet have the bat'leth to otherwise dissuade you. Chirakis: So.. clip your screens to your PADDS, set them to alert mode in case there is one, and attend. ::nods to the crew::: Fletcher Jackson: ::yl:: Commander, I think I'll have to take it to my quarters for later. No way could I eat anything more. Chirakis: ::chuckles at Jackson's comment::: I should make you eat it, Ensign. Fletcher Jackson: ::swallows hard::: Tarisa: Miana> ::Perks up.:: Nijil tr'Korjata: +Jy+ You sound appealing...I, err. I'll make arrangements. Alexis McFarland: Mm? ::Looks at Miana:: Chirakis: ::smiles as she turns to enter the lift:: All crew are to attend. You heard the admiral. Tarisa: Miana> ::Sniffs the air as her ears twitch.:: I hear something. A celebration. I smell sweets too! Fletcher Jackson: :::groan::: Alexis McFarland: Hmm. They did close off a portion of the commerce section didn't they? I wonder if that has anything to do with it. Tarisa: ::Puzzled at first, but chooses not to question. She goes to the lift.:: Chirakis: Action> All Starfleet personnel head to the commerce deck. Civilians only if they are part of a Starfleet family. Annisha: Au hear something? Tarisa: Miana> I want to see. Jylliene: ::to Jackson:: You'll be fine. ::heads there:: Dacia Sandero: ::get the announcement to head to the commerce deck:: Something going on down there? Alexis McFarland: Yeah, me too, Alexis McFarland: What did you hear Annisha? mimipavilion: ::gets the announcement as well and heads to the commerce deck:: Not sure? Tarisa: Miana> ::Gets a beep on her tablet.:: Oooo.. Jylliene: +Nijil+ On your way to the event? Dacia Sandero: ::reads about it on her PADD:: Ooh. Annisha: Na, it's Miana's hearing.. I mean my hearing is good. :: points at pointy ears :: But I did not hear that noise? My birthday is not today, so what gives? Nijil tr'Korjata: +Jy+ What? What event? Tarisa: Miana> I think we can go too. ::Shows the tablet.:: Alexis McFarland: ::Gets it too:: It's something to do with the station. It's birthday? We're invited since we have family in Starfleet. Annisha: Just like someone, get us all in one place... Jylliene: ::forwards the info with the command to attend:: Tarisa: Miana> Yay! Alexis McFarland: ::gets another beep:: Dacia already said to meet her down there. Jylliene: +Nijil+ There's cake. Dacia Sandero: ::heads down to the commerce deck:: Jylliene: +Annisha+ Meet your father and I when you reach the commerce deck. Alexis McFarland: Mmm. Lets go. Tarisa: Miana> ::Tail swishes as she gets excited.:: Nijil tr'Korjata: +Jy+ I have been so involved in my work.. I'm in an empty tube working on a project. Alexis McFarland: ::the students get dismissed by the teacher and they make their way to the commerce section:: Jylliene: +Nijil+ Orders from the admiral. Jylliene: ::arrives:: Tarisa: Miana> :;Sees the giant cake as the get close to the party.:: Wow.... Nijil tr'Korjata: +Jy+ Admiral who? There are so many. Tarisa: ::Was already there, mingling.:: Dacia Sandero: ::arrives shortly after and stands next to Jyliene:: Jylliene: +Nijil+ Admiral Morris. Come on. Chirakis: ::making her way through the crowd, enjoying their presence::: Chirakis: :::amazed at the food they have spread out::: Dacia Sandero: ::to Jylliene:: I figured if Annisha was going to meet you here, Alexis wouldn't be too far away. ::her gaze turns to the impressive cake station:: Jylliene: +Nijil+ There's food and cake. Jylliene: About time. ::chuckles:: Nijil tr'Korjata: Oh good, the shuttle did not misplace me. Alexis McFarland: Yeah.. no wonder they need a cake so big Nijil tr'Korjata: My feet are tired, and I can't see straight. Jylliene: ::rubs his back:: Annisha: :: With her friends :: Dacia Sandero: ::smiles:: Tarisa: Miana> I smell familiar people though. Alexis McFarland: ::looks for Dacia in the crowds, connects with her telepathically:: Ahh, she's next to your parents Annisha. mimipavilion: ::walking through the commerce level:: Alexis McFarland: Yeah, I guess they're all here. Nijil tr'Korjata: It's my feet, but not here... So what is this about again? Chirakis: :::though she does not really enjoy such food, she accepts a very small sample, nods thanks, then moves on::: Alexis McFarland: I'm sure Tarisa's around here somewhere too. Tarisa: Miana> ::Nods.:: I can smell her too. Jylliene: An anniversary, you might say. Jylliene: ::indicates the writing on the big cake:: Tarisa: ::Tilts her head a moment, as she catches something. Walks casually through the crowd.:: Alexis McFarland: ::sees Dacia and Annisha's parents and heads their way:: Chirakis: ::::moves to the edge of the crowd and ponders the 24 years:::: Nijil tr'Korjata: It's been a year for us already? Chirakis really goes all out. Jylliene: ::glances at Nijil,:: Fletcher Jackson: ::wanders through, taking a little here and a little there, boxing them up for tomorrow:: Tarisa: Miana> ::Following Alexis, till she stops when someone puts a hand on her head.:: Tarisa: ::Smiles as she pats Miana's head.:: Alexis McFarland: ::stops next to Dacia and still near Miana and Tarisa:: Tarisa: Miana> Neemah! ::Hugs.:: Dacia Sandero: ::pets Alexis' head as well:: Chirakis: (Let us hope that Miana's hands are clean) Alexis McFarland: Mmm, neemah! Keeheehee.. Chirakis: (Not covered with cake, that is) Tarisa: ((hehe she hasn't got that far yet.)) Chirakis: I suppose that was a surprise for everyone. Chirakis: And it is true. On the 18th of August, 24 years ago, Aegis was christened. Chirakis: We are now on the edge of the 25th Season. Chirakis: Some of us were there, and some of us were not. I do believe, though, that it is one of the best sims, and that we have one of the best crews. Thank you all. Chirakis: So... TBS will be another 24 hours, making it the afternoon of the next day. Chirakis: Hopefully you will not be so full that you cannot move. Chirakis: Anyway, questions or comments? Dacia Sandero: Can we take home leftovers? Chirakis: Of course. Chirakis: Mr Jackson is so full that he has to save his for later. Fletcher Jackson: ::cough:: Chirakis: Anyone else? Chirakis: Thank you for being the best crew I have ever had. Chirakis: And with that... Chirakis: Crew dismissed. Be well. Be Safe. Don’t forget your towel.
  11. Mission Brief | Sky Harbor Aegis | 16 August 2019 21 May 2388 - Stardate 2388.142 TBS is 29 hours. The time is 1300 hours (1:00 pm) Aegis Local Well into the second day of recovery from Aegean's near disaster, the crew is settling down to a normal routine. Aegean has been taken to the shipyard for repairs. Medical is tending to crew members who became ill from radiation and/or anxiety. Science is examining examining the samples of stellar radiation from the rogue star, and families have been reunited. In short, it has been a quiet day.
  12. ~~Season 24 Premiere~~ Mission Brief |Sky Harbor Aegis | 18 August 2018 29 April 2388 - Stardate 2388.119 TBS is 9.5 hours. The time is 0700 hours (7:00 AM) Aegis local. Alpha Watch has begun. Aegean successfully intercepted the science ship, Toq-Pan-Jri. Both ships are about to dock at Aegis. As a precaution, Task Force Aegis remains on standby in docking orbit. An inquiry into the cause of Toq-Pan-Jri’s change of flight plans will hopefully uncover the cause of the navigation problem that Aegean and Task Force Aegis encountered.

  14. Mission Brief | Sky Harbor Aegis | 9 August 2019 20 May 2388 - Stardate 2388.141 TBS is 24 hours. The time is 0700 hours (7:00 AM) Aegis local. Aegean and Regulus docked. Those aboard have been cleared for duty. Regulus has returned to Starfleet Security Base. The crew of Aegean have been commanded to rest for at least 24 hours, and more if needed to recuperate. Test samples from Aegean’s science lab are secure in a restricted area of the science lab to guard against radiation poisoning. Those entering the lab must be geared up against radiation. Our gremlin still prefers chocolate.
  15. Unsung Heroes Dr. Pavilion nodded and stepped a bit closer. “You get some rest as well, and that’s not a request.” “Yes, ma’am,” said the captain with a slight grin. ~Aegis chat 2 August 2019 It was a mutual agreement. The doctor was just as worn as she, and yet she ordered the captain to retire to quarters. The captain could have easily ordered the doctor to do the same, but she did not. In essence, each could order the other off duty, hence the smile and, "Yes, ma'am." It is generally understood that the chain of command aboard a ship, on a space station, or on any starbase ends with a captain, an admiral, or any officer who has been given the task of directing a crew. This is not necessarily true. Case in point, although Captain Chirakis is commanding officer of Sky Harbor Aegis, Aegis’s chain of command does not stop with her. One higher than she is often overlooked, and that is the station’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr Pavilion. At any time, with the concurrence of another command rank officer, Dr Pavilion could declare the captain unfit for command and remove her from that position. With that in mind, Kirel often spotted the doctor in stealth mode—worthy of an SI-5 operative. The doctor would enter CnC, step to the side to watch or log onto a free console—similar to hers in the medical complex—and begin to work. Stealth mode. On this particular day, however, Kirel's blank stare at the tactical view screen verified her exhaustion and drew Dr Pavilion’s attention. Aegean and Regulus would arrive sometime within the next 24 hours. At the doctor's orders, she left believing that she would only rest. Instead, she fell into a deep sleep. In full uniform. Only to awake fourteen hours later. * * * * * Having heard that Aegean was about to dock, Captain Chirakis stepped out of the command lift at the quarantine level. A young security officer stepped next to her, SOP in such matters. At his request, Ltjg Yorkowski had just transferred from Starfleet Operations to Aegis. As soon as he was available, Kirel tapped him for her security details. A third degree black belt Karate master did not belong behind a desk. Within the quarantine area, a prominent medical officer wandered among her assistants, checking and rechecking equipment. “How long has Dr Pavilion been here, Lieutenant?” the captain queried as she watched. “She arrived shortly after oh five hundred, Captain.” “Have you any idea why she came early?” “Well, ma’am, she’s been walking through, checking everything, counting suits, checking scanners, verifying codes, examining contamination suits, shifting equipment, checking the radius of the quarantine, readjusting just about everything. She’s pretty damn meticulous, ma’am.” Nodding slowly, she verified, “Indeed she is, Lieutenant. Since five hundred?” “Yes, ma’am.” Half an hour later, the crew of Aegean began to exit via the docking port and wander wearily toward the decontamination area. The injured exited first. Some walked. Aegis’s medical personnel approached others who needed assistance. Some stumbled, exhausted from the battle against what was now known as the rogue star. Some were carried off. Most had radiation contamination, many were disoriented, and a few had a look of disbelief that they had returned alive. Kirel was all too familiar with their facial expressions. What it would have been like to be burned in the gravity well of a star? Would it have been a slow, agonizing death? Would it have been a quick snap? Would the radiation have gotten to them before they even felt the heat? Dr. Sandero paused just outside the ship to page through her tablet, checking and rechecking her patients, making sure that all were accounted for. Her blonde hair, normally twisted into an impeccable bun for duty, was somewhat frazzled. Her face, so often admired by passersby, was pale and worn, and yet she pressed on, constantly watching for the slightest sign of crisis. Though her exhaustion showed, she did not allow it to keep her from her duty. As commanding officer of Aegean, Commander Coleridge exited last. No doubt he had walked through Aegean to assure that no one had been left behind. His exhaustion showed as he approached the senior officers and presented himself as though it were an ordinary day. “File your reports by the end of the day,” he said, “but then I want you taking at least a day off before you go back on duty.” From there, they were transported to the medical complex to be washed and given new uniforms. As soon as Kirel received notice that all were well and accounted for, she relaxed, but only a little. The crew returning was a different crew than the one that had left a few days ago.

  17. Below Decks Senna Matise poked her head out the entrance to what had become their quarters in the unfinished section of Aegis known as Below Decks. She heard the children chattering enthusiastically, but couldn’t quite understand what they were up to, so she rounded the corner to find out. A group of pre-teens sat on the floor half way down the corridor, fiddling with what looked like metal. She and her husband Glen, both undercover security, blended well with the natives. They scavenged for the comforts of home: a bed, a worn out carpet, a few chairs—none of which matched—a small table and replicator, and other paraphernalia. They got to know their neighbors, most of whom were congenial. Senna had left her teaching profession to join Starfleet Security, but Below Decks lacked a teacher, so she volunteered for the younger group. Since Glen was smart—according to the neighbors— they snagged him to teach the older group physics and advanced mathematics—along with basic defensive tactics because the teens said it was “so cool”. Eventually the defensive tactics class added what they dubbed "scramble teams", a little wrestling and a lot of just plain scrambling on the deck. They enjoyed that part more than anything else. Today Glen had his teens in their makeshift gymnasium working on defensive tactics. As Senna moved around the corner to check on the younger set, Glen came up from behind. His towel barely absorbed the sweat dripping from his scalp to his forehead, he smelled of gymnasium, and his workout clothes were in desperate need of washing. Senna’s how did it go look elicited an eyeroll and a whispered, “Pretty much like skipper’s training. Damn, they’re good,” he sighed. Another swipe of the towel and he leaned against the wall to watch. A gaggle of giggles preceded, “No, no, no,” that came from down the corridor followed by “Let's change it around, Benji. That way they don't clang together and make such a weird sound. We can use… let me see… wood! Yes, wood will do it!" A few clanks against several metal objects echoed in their direction. Somewhere the children had found different sized sections of metal pipe, strung them together to make a rudimentary chime, and hung it between two chairs. “Yeah, Penny. That’s lots better,” said Benji, excited. “Can I try it out?” “Sure.” She shrugged. “You’re the one who found ‘em.” Benji grinned, looked at the chimes, and considered the smooth piece of round wood, holding it as though he was a conductor. “Okay, so… um….” Benji scrunched up his face to think, then took on a serious expression. “How about... Mary Had a Little Lamb? Mrs Matise really likes that one.” The others nodded agreement and began to sing as he played. Sitting on the decking cross legged they launched into Mary Had a Little Lamb in full voice. The metal pieces didn’t respond very well, but the children seemed to enjoy it anyway. They rocked to the meter and shouted at the end. “Bravo! Bravissimo!” Senna clapped vigorously, admiring their enthusiasm as she walked toward them. Within seconds the children surrounded her, talking excitedly all at once as she sat on the floor next to them. Glen hung back, still leaning against the wall near their quarters, beginning to smell himself. The children waved. He held up his towel and waved back. They obviously understood. “Did you like it? Did you really, really like it?” Really, really, really???” “Oh, of course I did. Excellent job. In fact, I would give it an A plus. And the chimes? Oh, Benji, you are worthy of a concert conductor. But where did the metal come from? Not from someone’s cabinet, I hope?” “Oh, no. You know that play room two decks down? The one we use for our clubhouse? We went to play in it yesterday and could hardly get into it. It’s loaded with stuff. You know, boxes of equipment, lots of different sized pipes. Like I said, lots of stuff. These sawed off pipes were in a trash bin—at least I it looked like a trash bin—so I took them for play.” Benji stopped suddenly. His eyes widened. “Was that okay Mrs Matise? I mean, it looked like…” Senna smiled. “I’m sure it’s okay, Benji. Don’t worry about it. But it’s best to stay away from there, just in case.” “Oh, I’m not going back in there. It stinks. I mean, it really stinks.” The children pinched their noses with an “Ewww” After a shower and clean clothes, Glen moved into a back room, engaged a small unit, and called quietly, “BD base, BD 7. Information incoming.” “BD 7, BD base. Go ahead.” “BD deck one eight eight, room three seven, contains unknown equipment, possible breach.” “BD base, BD 7. Stand by.” Glen relaxed in his chair, notating information as he waited. A few minutes later, “BD 7, BD Base. Confirmed. Quarantine that area. We will monitor. Copy?” “BD 7 copy.”
  18. Mission Brief | Sky Harbor Aegis | 2 August 2019 19 May 2388 - Stardate 2388.140 TBS is 2 days. The time is 0700 hours (7:00 AM) Aegis local. Aegean and Starfleet runabout Regulus have entered Aegis space and are preparing to dock. USS Missouri escorted them as a precaution against the Alien Alliance. Aegean and Regulus will be heavily guarded and under quarantine when they dock as a precaution against radiation poisoning. Access to them will be at the discretion of Dr Pavilion. As soon as the crew of Aegean is released from quarantine and pronounced physically fit to return to duty, they will debrief and begin work on their observation and data regarding what is now known as the rogue star. Below decks, within the unfinished area of the station, evidence of alien incursion has been found. Security is monitoring it closely.

  20. Interesting Alien Chirakis Kirel 20:00 hours and no word from Aegean. Third watch had commenced. All was quiet in CnC, and if the captain paced on the carpeting one more time her footprints would be permanently embedded not only in the carpet, but on the floor beneath. She sighed. "Captain." Lt Cdr Sherman, Officer of the Watch, had stepped up beside her and she hadn't even noticed. She glanced in his direction. "Yes, Commander?" "Due respect, ma'am, but you need to rest. And I doubt that you have eaten since first watch." She regarded him a moment, then turned back to stare at… nothing, actually… but a minimal smile did appear. She had known him for decades and considered him one of her best officers: strict but understanding and revered by those he supervised. He also reminded her of Cdr Lei'ri, the Qr'var whom d'Ka called "his watchdog",... and a good one he was. "Captain?" he repeated quietly. "Yes, Commander," she replied with yet another sigh as she messaged the back of her neck. "I understand, and you are correct. I leave CnC in good hands, and," she turned and stepped close to him, "no need for 'due respect'. We've known each other long enough." "Yes, ma'am." He chuckled, watching her leave. Before going to her quarters, she entered the security complex. Since she was not expected, the young duty officer almost upended his chair when he snapped to attention. "As you were," she said while the computer recognized her presence. "How is our little gremlin?" "He’s… uh…. still pretty sad, ma'am. Won't eat. Just sits in the corner and fiddles with some of the things Lt Kenyon brought." "Um…" she mused. "I will need an escort and some energy bars, if there are any left from last watch." “Yes, ma’am, there are, but they’re all chocolate if that’s okay.” “That will do.” The security complex was quiet this time of night. Surveillance was on duty, but otherwise the watch was quiet. Her boots made a faint tick on the decking and the corridors sounded hollow—which she found odd. Perhaps the sound was new, or perhaps she was otherwise occupied and never noticed it. She preferred the latter, and continued on with her escort a few paces behind. Why the escort? She was not sure of this alien, and found it discreet to have backup. The alien was definitely an interesting specimen. No more than a meter in height, its exterior was a smooth gray thick skin with occasional tufts of hair. When it turned, it was obviously a male, and Kirel wondered if it longed for its mate. Its eyes were a deep gray, its long fingers ended in impressive musculature, and it stood erect on humanoid legs. It's entire body could slip easily through a 16" pipe, which Kirel surmised was the reason it navigated below decks so easily. Inquisitive in nature and quite docile, its curiosity pushed it toward Kirel as she stood outside the enclosure, so she crouched to its level and watched. It seemed very interested in something as it came closer, its eyes seemed to dance from her to the officer behind her, then it pointed. “Lieutenant Rathers,” Kirel said without losing eye contact with the alien, “are the energy bars visible in your pocket?” “Yes, ma’am. You think it might be hungry?” “Let’s find out,” she said, her hand outstretched over her shoulder to maintain eye contact with the being. The alien seemed excited. “Drop the force field,” she ordered as she peeled off the wrapper. Rathers gasped. “Captain, we have no means to recapture should it escape, and the odor, ma’am… it’s…. it’s….” “Lieutenant?” She said, still smiling and without turning. “Drop the forcefield.” “But… ma’am….” “That is not a request, Lieutenant. That is a direct order.” She heard him swallow hard into, “Yes, ma’am. Dropping the forcefield.” Startled, the alien moved back as the forcefield dropped and Kirel offered it the energy bar. There was a heavy stench for a while, then it seemed to slowly diminish. It took a while, but eventually the alien slowly approached, tilted its head as it regarded her questioningly, then took the energy bar, sniffed it, and took a bite. Then another. And eventually devoured the entire bar. “Another one, Lieutenant.” He passed it over her shoulder, and Kirel offered another one, which it took enthusiastically. “Have you another, Lieutenant?” “Yes, ma’am. One more.” “Pass it to the alien and secure the force field. I will inform Lieutenant Kenyon and Dr Pavilion of what transpired here.”
  21. Mission Brief | Sky Harbor Aegis |26 July 2019 17 May 2388 - Stardate 2388.138 TBS is 4 hours. The time is 2100 hours (9:00 PM) Aegis local. Aegean is still under repair as the star threatens to draw them into oblivion. USS Regulus is outside the star’s gravity well, desperately trying to make contact so they can attempt a rescue. Also outside the star’s gravity well is a massive Alien Alliance ship at stationkeeping, reason unknown. On Aegis, Lt Kenyon and Dr Pavilion are collaborating on a way to communicate with our strange, small alien we call the Gremlin. It was caught below decks bringing electronic equipment aboard Aegis, reason unknown. So far it has been harmless and sad as it sits in solitary confinement. Otherwise, in CnC, Captain Chirakis is wearing the carpet down and might have to replace it.

  23. Mission Brief | Sky Harbor Aegis |19 July 2019 17 May 2388 - Stardate 2388.138 TBS is 2 hours. The time is 1600 hours (4:00 PM) Aegis local. Aegean continues repairs from the star’s explosion that neutralized most of their power. They have few options for survival. With a possible two hours of shielding against radiation and a questionable option of using the AQS to power shields, they decide to focus on the star itself, to neutralize its pulses permanently. Meanwhile, their backup vessel, Runabout Regulus, is using everything it can to locate Aegean. A modified torpedo passed by and pointed them toward a possible location. Regulus is responding via Morse code. Tension rises on Aegis as time passes with no word from Aegean or Regulus. Because sending rescue parties toward the rogue star could lead to more losses, command’s decision is to sit tight and wait. The biggest question is still whether the rogue star is natural or is being manipulated somehow by an entity, possibly the Alien Alliance.
  24. Passing Through Aboard USS Kole at stationkeeping Nebula 236a USS Kole’s Surveillance Deck Officer of the Watch Lt Gonzalez had been busier than ever this morning: checking logs, verifying requisitions, and dealing with shift changes—always a pain. And now he was hunched over a monitor that decided to do its own thing. Since engineering was busy with "a more pressing issue" the job fell to him. Great. Just what I wanted to do. "Uh… El Tee?" came from across the deck. His exasperated sigh came from half way under the console. "I'm busy right now in case you didn't notice, Ensign. It'll have to wait." "But sir… I think you should see this." "Hildebrand!" he growled, exasperated with the kid interrupting his work. “I’m tired of your ‘buts’.” He pushed himself away from the console and rolled to a stand. "This better be... good." He froze. "What... the hell?" he muttered, staring at the forward viewscreen. A massive ship passed slowly through the nebula a little too close to Kole, bringing everything on the Surveillance Deck to a standstill. No one moved. No one made a sound as it floated past. Spreading its delta wings from one side of the nebula string to the other—or so it seemed—it made Kole look like a tiny dot in space. Resembling earth’s 21st century B-2 bombers, it was dark and imposing, floating through space as though it was part of the scenery. It took Gonzalez a while to get a grip, but finally he barked, “Let's go people! I want scans, top to bottom, inside out. Complete detail. Armaments, personnel, species, complement, interior hull, exterior hull, specification and design, propulsion systems, communication, food, clothing… everything you can think of. Wiggens, paint it and track its course." A series of, “Aye, sir,” came just as Cdr Jim Maron, Kole’s Executive Officer, entered and stopped short. "Hell of a big ship, sir," Gonzalez replied with a look of disbelief. “Probably Alien Alliance. I'm going to say three times the size of an Akira, maybe more." "Big ship?” said Maron, approaching the viewscreen. “I’d rate it a damn big ship. Where the hell did it come from,? Is this the first sighting?" "Second sighting, sir," Gonzales replied. "First time was two days ago on the other side of the nebula. This is the first time we've had a really good look." "Transmissions? Communications?" Maron asked as he made a visual scan, still a little overwhelmed. "We had one transmission on our first encounter. It was pretty garbled, either like someone blowing bubbles or a bunch of languages pushed together by a little kid. The computer couldn't make sense of it either, so we passed it on to HQ. McNamara has a handle on this pass-through." "Good. Good,” the commander replied, nodding. “Any show of hostility?" "No sir. It just seems to float through, sending out that strange transmission." "Other sightings reported?" Maron crossed his arms to watch the ship slip by. "Yes, sir, one. Aegean and Regulus are doing some scientific investigating near a star in 259b. Got one report from Regulus about this ship, but they said it passed by without stopping, pretty much like it’s doing now." Giving a slow thoughtful nod he continued to watch a while, then turned. "Anything else?" "No, sir." "Very well. Keep an eye on. Report when ready. Carry on." * * * * * * * "Well, I'll... be... damned," Cdr Jim Maron muttered as he thumbed through the preliminary report from Gonzalez. Captain Jira Adley looked up from her work, which was considerable ever since Kole took stationkeeping just outside the nebular ring. "Careful, Jim" she quipped. "It just might happen one of these days and then won't you be in a fix." Maron raised a brow in her direction then responded with an apologetic grin. "Got a point there, Captain. I'll be more careful to keep my words in check. Want to take a look?" He held out his tablet. She sighed and put her work aside. "Sure. Just throw it up onscreen." "Brace for impact…." he said as the forward viewscreen lit up with images and information on the delta wing ship that had been floating through the nebular ring for the last few days. Nudging her command console to the side, she pushed herself to a stand. "So that's what they've been talking about," she said. "Yep." Maron joined her. "Surveillance Deck says full complement is 1500, give or take. Three different species of humanoids. Medical is working on the information now to see if they can pinpoint the species’ origins. Their interior and exterior hulls are similar to ours, and the technology doesn’t seem to be very different. Armaments? Loaded for bear but similar to ours.” “Any evidence that they know we’re here?” “None that they showed. If they do know and they’re ignoring us, either they don’t care or they’re waiting for the right time to attack. But if they attack, we don’t have a chance.” “What about that strange transmission? Anything on that yet?” “No, ma’am. We sent it to HQ, and haven’t had a response. Any ideas?” “Oh yes," she replied, pensively. "A few. Just a few.”

How can we do this without tearing apart the ship? Tarisa: There is one thing that may be fortunate...in a sense. The Aegean is equipped with an AQS. Chirakis: ::Tarisa::: And....? Nijil tr'Korjata: @ +Coleridge+ The containment is sealed from the factory. I have no control over it. Are you planning to destroy the AQS core? Tarisa: I am afraid anything with a standard warp core would not be able to do the same, which is why we lost the Warren. CdrBrown: ::looks over at Tarisa:: And if containment wasn't maintained? Nijil tr'Korjata: @ +Coleridge+ The AQS is a powerful, but somewhat delicate power source. It's a risky method of faster-than-light power that has only been refined over centuries. Chirakis: ::nods, listening::: I would think that Commander Korjata would be aware, but that is a positive idea. Tarisa: ::Frowns, looking to Brown.:: If containment was lost, then a search would be futile. Annisha: What are they doing out there :: Sits next to Alexis :: CdrBrown: if it was totally lost, yes. What about a partial loss? would that give off any type of signal we could pick up? Tarisa: But I have not detected a blackhole in the area, so that is a good sign. Alexis McFarland: They are running. Alexis McFarland: Teacher says I can do a lap in my hover chair. We should do one. CdrBrown: ::nods:: Tarisa: Miana> ::Noting the new kids sticking in a group.:: Annisha: :: Stares at Alexis :: How is that fair? Alexis McFarland: It's just laps. Chirakis: # LtCdrDayson> :::lets out the breath he was holding:: They're gone. Apparently they have no interest in small ships or they don't know that we are here. Annisha: :: Hops on :: I'm not hoverly-abled... Tarisa: I know everyone is...anxious, but in this instance I fear the most we can do is keep watch. Commander Korjata has been in this same situation, and Lt. Dran is familiar with the nebula. I believe they will succeed. Any sort of rescue attempt on our part could lead to more trouble. Annisha: I can do nice... Dacia Sandero: @ ::setting up triage centres in sickbay and other areas if needed:: Alexis McFarland: Nice. Scott Coleridge: @+Nijil+ Let's not think of it as "disabling" containment then. How about poking some holes in it? Alexis McFarland: ::holds onto Annisha and Miana if she's on too, and steers herself around the track::: Weee.. Chirakis: ::hearing Tarisa::: Agreed. mimipavilion: ::listening:: Nijil tr'Korjata: @ +Coleridge+ Au are venturing into areas I was told not to read in the textbooks. Scott Coleridge: @ The torpedo was a good start, but even if our ships find the torpedo at the right time, tracing it back to us might not work. I want us to show up on subspace sensors. Alexis McFarland: ::She quickly does a lap around the track, faster than anyone:: Nijil tr'Korjata: @ In any even we'd have to remove the AQS from the housing and move it to a shuttlebay. Chirakis: # LtCdrDayson> Okay... let's see what we can find. Scott Coleridge: @+Nijil+ I've got the subspace theory knowledge, but I need your expertise with AQS systems. Think, Nijil. How can we use our captive black hole to get some attention? Non-destructively. Nijil tr'Korjata: @ +Coleridge+ It's also rather heavy. We'd need to drop gravity all over the ship to move it freely. Nijil tr'Korjata: @ +Coleridge+ Destroy it far from the ship. Tarisa: Miana> ::Cheering Alexis on.:: Scott Coleridge: @ +Nijil+ Oh, I really don't want to have to explain to Starfleet how I detonated a black hole inside a nebula in unaligned space. This place already has one subspace anomaly too many. Alexis McFarland: ::completes her lap and goes back to Miana::: Nijil tr'Korjata: @ +Coleridge+ Depends on how badly au wish to leave. Alexis McFarland: Hehehe. Chirakis: # LtCdrDayson> Damn... it's coming back. Go dark. Everything. Scott Coleridge: @+Nijil+ What if we bombarded the AQS with polarized nadion bursts? Nadion emissions can cause gravity waves in singularities, right? If we modulate them precisely, can we get waves strong enough to show up on sensors but not so strong they destroy us? Chirakis: # LtCdrDayson> ::shuts down everything as the alien ship moves close, then stops. Tarisa: Miana> Yay! Alexis McFarland: That was fun. Cdr Wyatt Cayne: @ +Coleridge+ They would have to get through the shield casing that contains the singularity. CdrBrown: ::looking at the flight paths of the Alien Alliance ships as they joined their formation:: Scott Coleridge: @+Nijil+ Right. The shield casing. Hmm. ::ponders audibly:: Ok, maybe we're going about this the wrong way. Chirakis: % Alien Alliance Ship> ::slowly moves through the nebula like it's looking for something::: Cdr Wyatt Cayne: Captain, this region of space is not typical..I can't place my finger on it, but things are just not like a typical chunk of space. Chirakis: # LtCdrDayson> (w) Don't. Even. Breathe. Alexis McFarland: ::Hugs Miana:: mimipavilion: ::moves a bit closer to Wyatt to listen:: Cdr Wyatt Cayne: Doctor... Did I miss a physical? Nijil tr'Korjata: @ +Coleridge+ Consider this, any ship we know of will likely have the same troubles we are, well, perhaps the Borg could adapt. Chirakis: ::turns to Cayne::: Throw out any ideas. Dacia Sandero: @ ::hopes we can get rescued though:: Scott Coleridge: @+Nijil+ We tried sending up a flare, so to speak, and that might or might not have worked. We won't know until someone knocks on our door. We can't abandon ship because our escape pods and shuttlecraft don't have shielding. So we can't leave, and we can't attract attention the conventional way. Cdr Wyatt Cayne: Bombard the area with probes? no risk to people? mimipavilion: ::shakes her head:: I'm just listening. Annisha: That thing is dangerous Lexy. :: gets off :: Pretty sure I'll have to run it myself though., Scott Coleridge: @+Nijil+ What if we make this area safer? What if we neutralize the star's pulses, permanently? Alexis McFarland: @But it's fun... Alexis McFarland: @ I think we all eventually do. I did my lap though. Tarisa: Miana> ::Giggles.:: We should paint flames on the sides. Alexis McFarland: @Yay. Alexis McFarland: Flames add 50 extra horsepower. CdrBrown: ::looks at Cayne:: I think we need to change the angle that we are looking at and listening for things. Look at these flight paths for Alien Alliance ships that passed near the nebula before assuming their current positions.... some of the paths are almost erratic, like something forced a course change... Tarisa: Miana> ::Looks in awe.:: It will summon horses? Alexis McFarland: Yes? mimipavilion: ::Chirakis:: whatever they do they need to do it quickly. Chirakis: Indeed they do.
