  1. "The Not So Great Escape" a log by MCapt. Kimiko and Haskins ----- Usually, the back roads and alleys of the capital city on Qo'nos were filled with Klingons making deals, and laughing loudly in small groups, telling stories of their times in combat. But not this particular alley. This one was almost always deserted, because this one ran alongside the headquarters of the Empire's Counterintelligence Division. Notorious for it's torture techniques, and ways of getting any information it wanted, even the bravest of Klingon warriors dared not be found around it, lest they be arrested as a spy. At the moment though, the dark, shadowy alley played host to two warriors, but not of Klingon descent. Haskins peered around a disposal bin and determined that the retreating back of a guard meant that they had ample time to get inside un-noticed. Kimiko stood behind Haskins, leaning against the wall for cover. "What now?" He looked back at her. "Now, we wait for your Marines to put on their little acting bit, drawing attention away from this side and the back of the building. At the same time, they'll have to deal with another brawl to the east, where we just planted that stun grenade. It'll project the sounds of a recorded fight, but when the guards reach it, it'll simply detonate and knock a few of them out for a while." The Marine Captain nodded. "Don't worry. They'll get the job done. Just be ready to move." Haskins smirked. "This being said to a spy....". "Shut up..." Kimi said. It wasn't long after that a band of humans appeared in the far distant. They all appeared to be drunk and looking for trouble. Haskins and Kimiko watched the group amble off to the west, starting to get louder and abrasive. Soon enough, it got to throwing punches, and a group of 7 Klingon guards moved towards them to settle the dispute. Haskins looked at Kimiko, and reached into a pocket to send a signal to the stun grenade to start what it was programmed to do. A second group of guards heading that direction was the duo's cue to move up the alley and to the side service door. Kimi stood watch at the door as Haskins began to work the lock. "Hurry up," she whispered. "I don't think our distraction is going to last much longer..." Kimko stopped talking as the door was unlocked from the inside, and an older-looking Klingon looked out. Instinctivly, the Marine drew her pistol level to the Klingon in defense. The older Klingon looked at Kimiko warily, and spoke. "Alls well that ends well?" Haskins relaxed a bit. "Alls fair in love and war." "More spy talk?" Kimi said, still not wishing to lower her pistol. Haskins pushed Kimiko's arm, and pistol along with, slowly downwards. "Let's get inside shall we?" He looked to the Klingon, who opened the door wider and allowed them in." "You could have told me you had someone on the inside..." she said, holtering her pistol as she stepped inside. Haskins looked up and down the corridor, speaking quietly. "I thought I did...." The older guard looked at the two. "This is all they send to free their informant?" Haskins gave him a look. "It is all that is necessary, and for keeping your voice down, and taking us to him, you'll be paid handsomely." The guard nodded, and motioned for them to follow him. ----- Two levels down, in a holding room, K'mar, son of Lorgh, a.k.a. Cardinal, sat in a chair, bound by his arms and legs. No one had spoken to him, or come to him since he had been arrested an hour before, and he had lost interest at sneering into the mirror opposite him. In the next room, watching him through the treated window, Lorgh, the Commandant of Klingon Counterintelligence looked at his son. Amusingly enough, the idea to use a one way mirror had come to his attention from an informant inside the Federation, and now it was going to be used to interrogate this defector. Lorgh growled at his aide. "My own son?! The traitor we have been searching for all this time is my own son?" The aide knew that a wrong word here could mean the end of his life. "General, he was found with the missing documents in his possesion, and he was communicating with the humans through this." He passed the General the small radio K'mar had been using. Lorgh looked away in disgust. The way he treated this, problem, would either allow him to keep his position, or lose his head. He moved forward towards the window, and leaned over a table, speaking into a panel. "K'mar, this is your father. What have you done?" He started with a cool, relaxed voice, one his son had not heard many times before. K'mar looked up at the disembodied voice, and realized they were watching him through the mirror. He looked at the table in front of him. "If you wish to speak with me, Father," he spat, "come and face me, like a man. Again, you hide behind your aides and tools." The muscles in the General's neck tensed, and his eyes looked as if they would implode. He punched the glass in front of him in anger, nearly breaking it. "You dare talk to me that way, p'tagh?" ----- Slowly approaching the holding areas, Kimiko, Haskins and the guard carefully traversed the corridors. Kimi quietly held the rear. She wasn't quite sure she could trust Haskins, and she damn sure didn't trust this guard that he had paid off. She quickly glanced at each shadow of every corner they came across, just waiting for a trap to be sprung. They stopped near a door, from behind which they could hear shouting. Haskins looked at the guard, who nodded. "I do not have the proper key to open this door." Haskins nodded, and began to work with the lock carefully. Kimiko's attention was turned to behind the trio, as sounds of returning Klingons could be heard in the far distance. The Marines probably couldn't stall any longer. The guard's demeanor changed, and he lost what little bravery and sense of honor he had towards these aliens. He crossed the corridor and turned on a communications panel. "Intruders in Section 6C!" he bellowed into the terminal, as Haskins finally got the door open. Kimi didn't hesitate this time. She shot the guard, dead center, with her pistol set to heavy stun. " I knew it!" Haskins swore as he opened the door and swept the room with his pistol. Inside, K'mar looked at him, then scowled. "Get me out of here!" Haskins crossed the room and saw the mirror. He called out to Kimiko, still in the hallway. "Captain! Company in the next room!" The Marine Captain quickly followed into the room where Cardnal sat. She grabed for her only stun grenade off her belt and tossed it into the room beyond. Seconds later it exploded. "Let's get the hell out of here!" K'mar stood up as soon as he was free and bolted for the door, Haskins and Kimiko right behind. K'mar stooped to pick up the elderly guard's weapon, and shot him dead. "Good riddance." "What the hell?! He was down!" Kimi said, shocked of the Klingon spies action. K'mar didn't say a word as they rushed from the scene, sprinting up a flight of stairs. Haskins looked at her. "I tend to agree with our friend here. We couldn't leave a witness behind if he turned on us.. " He stopped short as a disruptor beam narrowly missed his face. K'mar, two stairs ahead, had already coruched into position and was returning fire. Kimiko scowled at Haskins remark, following up the steps to join the firefight. Minutes later, the new trio made it to the ground level, and had the service door in their sights. K'mar, anxious to get as far away from this place as he could, made a run across the corridor, and took a shot to the chest from a lucky guard. Haskins immediatly fired back and connected his shot. "Go! I'll cover you." said Kimiko as she fired a couple shots. Haskins rolled across the floor, and got to his knees as he reached K'mar. Finding him still alive, Haskins threw open the door and dragged K'mar out into the dirt. With the alleyway clear of anyone else, Haskins peered back around the corder of the door and gave some cover fire. "Go! I got you!" Kimi started across, when she was hit in the back by a Klingon guard. As she fell to the ground, a stray shot from her phaser landed square on Haskins leg. Haskins swore as he fell back behind the door. He looked at kimiko across the way, behind a corner. "Can you make it over here?" Guards quickly made their way towards the service door, preventing Kimi from using that route. With no other option, the marine captain got up from the floor and ran down another hall. She squeezed a couple of rounds into two guards that tried to block her way. She soon burst out of the door, which happened to be the main exit. Around the corner of the open street stood a couple of the marines from the distraction detail. They quickly recovered Kimiko and made their escape together into the night. As Haskins saw Kimiko turn the opposite way, he decided he had no choice but to leave her on her own. K'mar was starting to come around, but he was injured badly. Haskins pulled up him to standing and gave him support as they struggled down the alley, and towards a safe place to hide until a shuttle could be sent down for them.

After finishing the basic schooling requried of all young Denobulans, he was accepted into Denobula's Kiklak School of Higher Learning, working towards and finally receiving his master's degree in Propulsion Engineering. After graduating, he was offered a job in a developement lab on Denobula, which he accepted. In the years before he decided to join Starfleet, he met and married his first wife, Frej. Not long after, he married Giere, a co-worker. Tensions arose soon after, as the two wives disliked each other for many reasons, most of all being Frej's upbringing from family wealth. As the years past, his two wives bore him a total of 4 children, 3 female and 1 male, with a total of 29 children in his extended family. He has yet to find a third wife. Enrolling in Starfleet Academy in 2262, Cyiv excelled in all his classes, and decided to venture out from just Engineering, taking classes in the Tactical and Operations fields, as well as some basic command classes. He was also a member of the Academy's shuttle stunt team, and was appointed the team leader as a 4th year cadet. After graduation, Cyiv served aboard multiple vessels in Engineering and some Operations capacities, slowly rising in rank. He returned to the Academy to teach for a decade (2284-2294) During that time, Cyiv was able to spend more time with his family, and consequently, he became a father again, twice over. Most recently, Cyiv was asked by Starfleet to return to active duty as the Chief Engineer aboard the new USS Challenger, NCC-2457. He accepted, and is currently serving in that capacity. Denobulan Culture: The planet Denobula was one of the first planets to join the United Federation of Planets at it's founding in 2161. Though it has produced some of the Federation's leading scientists and engineers, not many of it's citizens have joined Starfleet and served aboard starships. Denobulans are typically polygamous, each man normally having three wives, which in turn, have 3 husbands. This leads extremely large extended families. In addition, Denobulan marriages are not exclusive, and married Denobulans can be intimate with anyone they choose. The females emit powerful pheromones during their mating season. Male Denobulans often become combative during this time, and mating can require medical supervision. Denobulans typically prefer to be amongst large groups and find solitude uncomfortable. However, Denobulans, at least males, are uncomfortable being touched by persons they are not intimate with. Hallucination is considered healthy for Denobulans, it is seen as a way to safely expend nervous energy. The average lifespan is very large, with about 3 generations being born every 500 years. Denobulans also possess particulary strong immune systems, resistant to most diseases and viruses which incapacitate other humanoid species. Denobulans have a unique ability to enlarge their faces when feeling threatened, much like an Earth blowfish. They also have unusually large smiles than most humanoids, and require very little, if no sleep, except for one hibernation period each year, lasting from 5-6 days.
