  1. Hi everyone :D A while ago I asked you all about your careers. Well I was wondering now, if some of you could give me some advice or insight. It's getting to be that time of my life where I have to start coming up with a "plan." Well here is my dilema :D . I know I love science and math, high stress levels, fast paces, always different, and solving puzzles. I know I am not a person who could devote my life to research and I am not a teacher. For a while, I thought this would fit very well for a trauma surgeon, but now I am not so sure. So where I once started planning on what to do, I know hvae a one of back up plans (not that thats a bad thing), but there are all very different from each other. Among my backup plans are: toxicology, forensics, and vet school. I know many of you have had numerous careers are are situated in one. Could you please give me some thoughts. New ideas are welcomed as well. :D
  2. See, now I feel great that I am a bio/chem major  After high school I took time off before I went to college. Was the best thing I ever did and it helped work as a guide. I quickly realized how much I loved (and cared for) science. So at least it helped narrow huge funnel of possibilities. Although as many of you know...science encompasses a great deal. When I entered college I was no closer at knowing what I want to do, so I decided the best thing for me to do was to become a double major. This way once I graduated I wouldn't have the problem of--"I found this great new job that I love but it requires a bio major instead of a minor. Oh shoot now I have to go back to school." I have to get on the ball fast, and to be honest a great deal of why I seem to be in a rush is because I want to be out there where all the excitement is. I don't want to become a permanent student...not that there is anythng wrong with it, it's just too expensive and not me. I want challenge...and I want change. Oh do I want change! I like so much, and I don't excatly know what I am passionet for. I know what I am not passionet for...that's easy. I definately need to set up appointments to job shadow...that's for dang sure :D oh and ps you guys...I never want to grow up. Life is as fun as you make it and that makes for happiness. Besides your only as old as you act and I would like to act like 21ish for ever...serious when need be, but knowing how to enjoy what you have and what you share :D
  3. Lol...I know what you mean about crunch time. This is my junior year of college. If I wanted to, I could graduate this year with a chemistry major and math minor. But instead I am going for a double major (chem/bio major, math minor). If I take the MCATs, I would like to do it this summer. I guess there is just to much I like ::D:
  4. Thanks Huff. I have tried (and haven't stopped) look through resources, but most of it has left not helped me narrow down my ideas. I am trying to look at colleges and seeing if I can job shadow. Unfortunatley, it was my advisor as well as faculty members that got me thinking. They seem to think that I would get too bored being a trauma surgeon. And your absolutely right..asking freinds is interesting as well as fun, which is one reason for why I poseted this topic :D
  5. lol this topic is become a show... :D
  6. You missed earlier that my family and I moved to Nebraska 4, almost 5 yrs ago from Buffalo. and its because of Canada that we get all the lake effect snow ::D:
  7. :) :D :D Just because your jealous doesn't mean you have you to be mean about it... ::sighs and walks away:: ::D:
  8. or Western NY
  9. see, you don't even have to know what it is like to have stores open 24hr... You can just see how much better life is ::D: Especially when you need gas at 4 in the morning and then realize you are SOL because gas stations close at 11pm in rural NE. ::sigh::
  10. To be honest I don't know, never paid any attn to that stuff, and thankfully I have a poor sense of smell. Besides, isn't that like nearly eversmall town in NE? But I can say I really miss 24hr shops!!!
  11. hey I know you ::D: Just so everyone knows..:starts to whisper: she's a princess... ::D: Welcome to the boards Lucy! :D
  12. Let's see I have 2. A ham sub on toasted bread...add light onions, banana peppers, red wine vinegar. YUM! One other type of food I miss that Nebraska doesn't have: cappacola. My second sandwich is a fried cappacola sub. Double Yummy! :D
  13. ::laughs:: Cars powered by hydrogen...noble thought. ::starts to reminice :: When I think of hydrogen gas, I am reminded of my 1st year chemistry teacher. He would always inform his students that if the building ever caught on fire, that we should run like hell! You see, "long ago," our school used hydrogen gas (what for, I forgot) but with the build up of the flammable gas over the years...well lets just say it would be a tearful and joyous occasion for a pyro. ::looks back to the crowd:: I just don't think an automobile powered by H2 gas would be very safe...
  14. more dangerous?? How??? good lesson in responsibility though. I can see now... "hey dad, I have a hot date tonight...can I use the horse?" "Sure kiddo ::dad hands over pitchfork::, but make sure you clean out the stall before you leave." hehe
  15. And Buffalo wings! Don't forget them. From Buffalo to Nebraska? Man, that's culture shock! I sympathise. In high school I moved from literally a stone's throw from the Pacific Ocean to Omaha. That really sucked! How bad did it suck? Well, I joined the Army right out of high school just to get out of the state. There is only one thing worse than Ft. Leonard Wood, MO as a soldier, and that is Omaha as a civilian. Oh God!!! How I miss my native food--especially my wings!! And for everyone else :D If they say buffalo wings or hot wings, they are not the real thing unless they are from Bflo, NY. :D Van Roy, I totaly agree about Omaha . I am in Omaha for college, and as soon as I graduate next year I am out of here and headed west .
  16. Its sad to learn that a Jingle stays in your mind forever. Anyway, I learned that jingle from growing up in Buffalo, New York...beloved home of the Buffalo Sabres :D (what can I say--I am a loyal fan :D). Fours years ago my family moved across the US and I have been living in Nebraska ever since. (Did you like my song, Seiben?...Im sure you've heard it too :D)
  17. OK, just for the fun of it (I know this isn't Toronto, but...): ::starts to play music:: In NIagra falls Onatario, marineland is the place to go...Seeing friends you miss, a great big Kiss...Everyone love Marine land....::takes a bow:: :) :D :D
  18. Hey there I hope you still come to the acedemies. :D I know what a schedule can do to for a person and the sims. I am barely able to attend my advanced sim and even sometimes I still have problems. Good luck for now...I hope the scheduling problems UNpersist :D Good luck :D
  19. Hello everyone :D . It seem like a lot of ppl I have talked to are in school (whether it be HS or college it doesn't matter). And then there are the handful of wiser than I  ppl who are no longer in school and most likely have a career of some sort or another... ...So, the purpose of this poll is to see what type of careers members have (past), studying for (present), or dreaming of (future). If your feeling brave :) give details since I tried to get general areas up (ex-medical-->dr). For students what schooling level (ex-High School (HS), College, etc) and what you would like do when you are all done with school. Well, lets see what we got ps...Sorry I never thought of list business (which is a popular one)
  20. She had a bad feeling about this. At first Anika thought this mission would be relatively simple; they would be actors and actresses on a reconnaissance mission. Sounded simple enough and fun too. It didn’t take long before she realized the group was in a lot more trouble than previously thought. Accents, dress, skin, hair, and eye pigmentations...those could all be altered rather quickly thanks to modern day science. But what about mannerisms, character, attitude? Anika looked from comrade to comrade, from Dana to Ruca, from BJ to Sieben. Could they pull this off as a group? Had Andrea been right all along? Dana seemed to be doing just fine with her character, no doubt the best person for “second born.” Dana was a warrior by spirit, heart, and soul. Anika knew that warrior class was a natural role for Dana; she had learned that in command games. Dakota had a regal and commanding air about her as well, no doubt a great deal of it from command experience she had in the past, including the command games as well. Anika wasn’t so sure about the rest of them...especially herself. Anika grew up independent, relying on no one and never special treatment. She had built that barrier around herself and it had remained for years. And now here she was on a world, where that barrier had come back to haunt her. Not only did she have to let the men behave as gentlemen, a concept that had eluded Anika for years, but she had to expect it without reservations as well! She wondered how well Seiben, her last-minute “escort,” was taking this in, and if he had come to the same conclusions as her. Seiben had showed up at her door on the Arcadia with dark brown hair and brown eyes to match. She wasn’t quite sure of how he knew she hadn’t “found a man” to “escort her” to the planet. There were only two good ways he could have learned of such information—either someone on the command staff informed him or he found out through the Arcadian grapevine. Either way, Seiben had showed up at her door, ready for the mission, asking to be her “escort.” Before Anika had the chance to utter a word he mentioned Cpt. Moose and Cdr. Dacotah said it was okay for him to join the mission if Anika would allow him to be her “man-slave.” Anika knew that he really wanted to be a part of the away team, and said yes. Now planet-side, she almost felt bad for him. Seiben’s newly died hair was itchy, and he was being put through circumstances she was sure he was unaccustomed to. If they had the chance, she would try to talk to him when they were alone. If not, she hoped Seiben would understand that her change in attitude was nothing personal. It was time for Anika to try and get into character now that she understood what the character was. Maybe Andrea was right. If the mission of the away team didn’t cause damage to the pre-warp society, the mission might cause emotional repercussions for the away team. She wondered just how busy Andrea would be when the mission was over, and just how many of her patients would be men from the away team...
  21. Anika's mind wandered back to earlier that evening when she looked in her mirror right before she left. The thought made her smile. The colors of her outfit were so bright and vibrant. She smoothed down her outfit one more time. The body of the outfit was a bold blue with the dark red, as well as a, dark green trimmings. The outfit seemed to shimmer. The colors went well with her dark hair, and seemed to bring out her dark brown eyes. She hadn’t been able to tell if her eyes seemed to sparkle because of the dress like outfit or because she of her excitement. Her long locks caressed her neck and her hair was in a style that showed off the length but kept the hair form her face. She felt like she should be attending a prom—in a medieval sort of way. Anika’s thoughts brought her back to reality. Some of the inhabitants could be seen outside now. That meant it was time for her to start paying attention...she would need to learn how to “act like a lady.” Well in this culture anyway. Dr. Pierce also knew that it was time for her to get to work. The probe had been causing people to get sick. All of the away teams that have been planet-side had already been inoculated. She looked around, she didn’t “have a man,” but it felt weird to “own” a guy. She decided that if she had to any problems, she could use the excuse she was “shopping around.”
  22. Kinda reminds me of the praying mantis or black widow... ::D:
  23. Then that's wonderful because it means I am in great company. :D
  24. I was thinking that same thing. It seems very comical to me that a movie which at the time haad no idea Arnold would go into politics, is coming true. Before we know it there will be an admendment to the constitution allowing aliens to be president and before you know it, there it will be: The Schwarzenegger Library" ::D:
  25. Van Roy, that is a very cool picture :P
