  1. Mr Drankum, now that our governments have sounded their trumpets and made a good show of things perhaps we can get down to the issues at hand. A sizable fleet of Federation ships is approaching our boarders and, for once... awaiting our clearance to enter. They can be properly delayed as needed, if we can be made aware that they are not needed for the protection of Cardassian interests.

While we may or may not have found faults in the Federations approach to the treaty, Cardassia was getting what it wanted with the removal of Starfleet from our system. We have never stated that they had to take the station with them though on this point we don't have much real concern either way. If we knew the true goals of the Ferengi fleet we could find flexibility in our current stance. Much flexibility.

I desire to engage in negotiations in secret before any official meetings with all parties involved. I think we can both agree that knowing how far we each are willing to go to achieve our ultimate goals would be beneficial. An alliance at this time could be most profitable to your interests... if we can be made to see the value in it as well.

    Kith Ghemor.

  2. The Cardassian Union as of this moment decrees that a state of conflict exists between it and the Ferengie Alliance. We firmly disagree with the interpretations of the Aegis Treaty by the Ferengie Alliance including but not limited to: Violations of current treaties by treaty member UFP, ownership of the SkyHarbor Aegis facility, and the "nuetral" use of shipping lanes. The Cardassian Union holds now that the lack of cooperation in recent negotiations and current hostile actions revoke all rights and privileges of the Ferengie Alliance stated in the Aegis Treaty.

The following actions will begin unless there is an immediate removal of Ferengie shipping from the Cardassian System. All Ferengie assets within the Cardassian Union will be seized and subject to nationalization. All debts between Cardassian nationals and Ferengie nationals are officially frozen. All Ferengie accounts within Cardassian markets, banks, and lending agencies are officially frozen and subject to confiscation. The free movement of Ferengie nationals and ships registered through the Ferengie Alliance is revoked.

The Ferengie fleet now in place in the Cardassian System will remove itself at once to a position of no less than 5 lightyears from Cardassia Prime and any other Cardassian occupied planet. Failure to do so will be deemed as an invasion of the Cardassian Union and lead to the official declaration of war between the Cardassian Union and Ferengie Alliance.

Hostile actions taken by any Ferengie ship upon any Cardassian ship, planet, station, national, asset, or investment will be taken as a declaration of war. Hostile actions will include but not be limited to: damage, threat of damage, and seizure of the above.

The Cardassian Union reaffirms it's partnership in the station know as SkyHarbor Aegis and do declare that the Cardassian Union's percent interest in the station falls under all of the above declarations.

The Cardassian Union now asks the Ferengie Alliance to return it's diplomats to their embassys so that this situation can be resolved in a peaceful and timely manner. Failure to engage in diplomatic conversation will be seen as a refusal of the above declarations and will be responded to in an appropriate manner.

  3. The damage was done. Whether the Federation's actions had nullified the treaty or not the Ferengie's surely had. But, even the fleet of nearly a hundred ships wasn't Ghemor's primary concern right now. He was already seeing long term ramifications of this days events. A large fleet, Ferengies of all creatures, had once more penetrated to the very heart of Cardassian space. It didn't matter what their target was because it showed the weakness of Cardassia's military to protect their boarders. It showed the weakness or unwillingness of the allies to be the protection they lacked. It showed moreover the willingness of one or more of the allies to keep the status quo firmly in tact.

All of that was more than enough proof for the militarists to reaffirm their stance. Ghemor would have to agree with it as well. For all of his faith, his desire for peace, his need to amend for his own involvement in the war he could not dismiss the weakness of Cardassia and the need to fix it. Treaties had been broken and gates would be set wide open for the rearming of Cardassia.

Could he at least direct the winds of these events to avoid the mistakes of the past?

  4. Ambassadors,

To the issues the Federation seems to be having at the moment the Cardassian Union is silent.

To the interpretation of the Aegis Treaty we find The Federation acting through Starfleet as specified in the treaty. How the chain of command is being implemented would fall under our first statement and we stand silent.

To the more pressing issue about the Breen, it is of great concern to the Cardassian Union. In response to each of your points, Ambassador Joy:

    1. If an outside force has moved in on the Breen then we are deeply interested in investigating this matter. If an internal conflict has occurred then we wish to know what implications there will be on our territory. If a natural disaster has befallen the Breen we again are interested. We do not care what methods or tools are used in this investigation. The Aegis station is an available asset for such a mission.

    2. You seem to be implying the Aegis station would be commanding all missions and activity that might occur along the Breen boarders. Any investigations taken on by the Cardassian Union will be commanded by us but we welcome a safe port of call. We believe the diplomatic facilities of Sky Harbor Aegis can be used in discussing what implications arise from findings within Breen space but the management of the station has never been under the control of the Cardassian Union. We feel Starfleet is a adequate steward of any Cardassian interest until such time that we are capable or required to step in.

    3. The Aegis Treaty seems to have affixed itself to the station more than the world it was established to aid, namely Cardassia Prime. We do not feel the Aegis station should be continually bound to the Aegis Treaty once it leaves the operational territory implied by the treaty, namely Cardassia Prime and the Cardassian systems and to a greater extend Cardassian territory.

    4. Again we see the spirit of the Aegis Treaty to be specifically focused on the reconstruction efforts of Cardassia Prime. That treaty can remain in effect without the station it was named after hanging in our sky. Whether fact or fiction, the impression of Aegis' current placement in the eyes of Cardassians is that of an overseer. We wish the peace between us to remain and only the impression of hostility be removed.

The Cardassian Union would like to suggest the negotiation of a new Treaty of Alliance between all interested parties in an effort to face this unknown possible threat from the Breen or other entities within Breen space. We hope that lessons learned from the Aegis Treaty might aid in a more accommodating alliance for all.

  5. Interesting question. The answer would depend on WHY they had my life in their hands. If I'm part of the crew or part of a mission I'd have to say either TOS or TNG. All the others my death would probably lead to some hard learned lesson about life or something. If I was just random crew then TNG, I think they killed off less Redshirts. If I'm the focus of the mission then TOS all the way. It's kinda hard to answer this though.

Perhaps a better way to look at it, "if you're the evil alien enemy, who would you least like having to face off with." Voyager would be the hardest to predict their moves, DS9 has the most combat experience, and TOS is like playing RISK with someone who always roles 6. Luck is a pain to counter so I'd have to give the nod to TOS again.

And finally, whether I lived or died I think I'd rather hang out with the TOS folks as well, with Enterprise second.

So, answer seems to be Kirk and crew.

  6. Here's the diagram I did a while back. I submit it again for review. :-)

How about going with the 8 wedge shown here but only 6 are occupied by diplomats. Suite 1 could house security and suite 8 medical. Either 1 or 8 could also house a diplomatic dedicated transporter room. Thoughts?

  7. Actually it's a plot point that they pulled most of their ambassadorial staff out of the Cardassian Region, as well as the joint Federation-Klingon-Romulan-Dominion Project Camelot in the Gamma Quadrant, as they're in a period of instability on the homeworld. Given the Romulan tendency to occasionally go into near complete isolation, it would be feasible for such an occurrence. :(

However, as stated in my own earlier post, it wouldn't be prudent to assume that would continue to be the norm. It could be possible, if the Romulan government so chooses, that a larger ambassadorial staff could be sent. Till then though, the IC reality is somewhat similar to the OOC ;)

While it's nice that sims can share events and such I'd hate to make this prevent someone from taking the Romulan lead on Aegis just cause it doesn't "mesh" with what another sim is doing.

  8. As the player of the former Gorn ambassador I'd have to first give a good grunt to the idea that the Gorn aren't a "Major" power but honestly Aegis should be the diplomatic interest of the powers involved in the war. Cardassia should have moved on enough that they can interact with other nations without having to go through the occupying powers first. So, having a presence on Aegis would just duplicate existing embassy's. That doesn't mean they would never come to Aegis just that they do not need a permanent presence there.

As for the Romulans, I can not say it's realistic that they have pulled so much out of Aegis. But, we have to deal with the OOC reality of not having a regular player to represent them. It's a shame the idea of the crew itself being made up of all the allied powers didn't last. I imagine the Romulans as a presence and active just not visibly. Cardassian space is probably just far enough away not to be of interest for taking territory but close enough to wish to make stable. In that manner they would support the same ideas as the Federation for Cardassia, if just for a more pragmatic reason.

The Federation embassy should represent all Federation worlds but also be open enough for each member world to pursue their own agendas. From something said in an TOS episode the member worlds act on their own but are required to end aid to one another. I think that this could be extended to foreign policy in that each world can interact with other powers as long as it doesn't endanger other members or infringe on their rights.

  9. <<having problems getting images to show up, will edit the post later when I get it figured out.>>

I've made a 3D model of Aegis and the saucer width was 200 meters.

I've also done a cross section showing decks.

There's not any real detail to the internal arrangement beyond the decks.

I think the pie section set up would work better. With this each power has an identical space with no one being above or below another.

The extra midway would be good, allowing a little more docking area (realisticly, this type of station should be limited to shuttles and very small transports and nothing bigger "physically" docking), more secure diplomatic docking, and better access between command and diplomatic levels.
