About Cyiv

  1. "Chaos and Hectic Times" a Seiben and Cyiv log ------------------- For the 109th time that day, a shuttle landed on one of Utopia Planetia's many landing pads. The Denobulan passenger collected his bags and exited the craft, making his way for the main corridor, and some kind of information or assistance as to where he could find his destination. Twenty minutes later, he found himself outside an office door in a wing off the main facility. Captain Rolf Seiben, the placard read. "Well, better go introduce myself..." Cyiv rang the door chime. Rolf, who by now was finishing unpacking heard the chime. "Come in, please"" he replied as he adjusted a picture on his desk. Cyiv stepped inside, setting his bags down and moving to parade rest. "Lt. Cmdr. Cyiv, reporting as ordered Captain." Rolf looked at the Denobulan. "Welcome. Well, I have to say, I am a bit surprised Starfleet would assign me an Engineer so soon. But anyway, welcome aboard Job 1363769, or soon enough, the USS Challenger...But it's nice to meet you though" added Rolf. Cyiv smiled, nodding. "I believe the Academy wanted to send me off as soon as possible. I was becoming to popular with the cadets...." He chuckled. Rolf smiled. "I know what you feel. I'm sure the crew of my old ship, the Cherokee felt the same way about me" The Denobulan tilted his head as he searched his memory. "Ah yes, the Cherokee. Mostly cargo runs for you then, Captain?" Rolf was impressed by the Denobulan's knowledge of his ship. "Yes. Mostly to colonies and outposts, plus the occasional gold run now and then," of course referring the the Fort Knox run last year. Cyiv nodded. "I hope we'll have a bit more of an interesting voyage than you're used to then." "I hope so too" smiled Rolf. "Perhaps you could visit the Academy again with lots of stories to tell" The 68-year old engineer nodded. "I plan on doing just that Captain." "Great. I'll be sure not to let you down then" replied Rolf. "Anyway.. if you're free, I suppose you'd like to see the ship itself? She's still a bit of a mess though" Rolf moved from his desk. "Want anything to drink or eat first?" Cyiv shook his head. "No thank you. I ate on the ride over, surprisingly." He smirked. "They don't train these young kids how to fly shuttles properly anymore..." Rolf, a former shuttle pilot himself, could only laugh. "That's a shame. They don't teach them like they used to" Cyiv laughed with him. "Onward to our mess of a ship then?" Rolf nodded. "Yep. Let's go" Rolf led Cyiv down a set of stairs to the lift. Ascending a few levels down, they arrived at a small hangar. Rolf made his way into a transport vessel and motioned for Cyiv to follow. The engineer walked in, taking a seat. "I havent been here in ages..." Rolf started up the transport's engines. "Oh really? First time here myself. Though my brother's been in here a lot." Obtaining clearance to depart from the controller, Rolf piloted the transport towards Challenger. Cyiv nodded. "Admiral Hans?" Rolf nodded. "That's him. He served as a former Engineer, aboard the Hood, and the Lexington, so I'm not surprised you know about him." "Indeed. He's guest lectured in many of my classes." Rolf nodded. "Yeah, he told me. He says you have a good class" He slowed down as the transport reached the Challenger, complete with gaping holes in the hull. A group of workers were now trying to weld the nacelles into place. "Here we are. Our future home sweet home" Cyiv nodded and got up to unlock the hatch, motioning Rolf out before him. Rolf nodded and exited. He handed Cyiv a safety vest and a hard hat. "You'll need these" With the transport safely inside, the two men stepped out onto the Challenger. The hardhat perched on his ridged face, the Denobulan engineer looked around. "Well...." He frowned a bit. "And we only have how many weeks?" Rolf sighed. "We've only a month really. I don't know what Starfleet was thinking, really. I have no idea how they could get this ship up and running with full equipment and crew in that short a time" He adjusted the hardhat and vest, and ventured deeper into the ship. Workers were seen everywhere installing consoles, lighting, etc. He had to watch his step so as not to trip on anything -- or anyone. Cyiv ducked under an open ceiling panel as he followed Seiben. "Well, I can't say that I've put too many extra shifts in recently...It'll be good for me..." He smirked. "At least we'll be busy." conceded Rolf. Cyiv picked up a spanner, twirling it with his fingers. "I don't know about you sir, but I can't stand having nothing to do..." Rolf smirked and nodded. "The same goes for me too. So, I welcome the hectic scheduling" "Chaos and hectic times, indeed." Rolf smiled and nodded as they rounded the bend to Engineering. "Yep. But I'm up for it" "As am I..." Cyiv paused as they entered the room. "...amazing." Rolf took a long look at Engineering himself, where technicians were still working on the warpcore. "That it is.. to think it'll be yours soon" "She'll do Captain... She'll do." "Aye.. that she will," replied Rolf <<END>> -------------------------------------------------------
