1. Around a year ago, I had the board set to display more topics per page, but there were complaints that the pages all took too long to display on a dialup connection.

It was asked that we cut the number of topics down per page. So I had made that change. If increasing it is something everyone is interested in, I'm sure it can be arranged. I just want to get more than two opinions on it first before making the change.

  2. The 0 New Messages part at the top of the screen?

I recieve SEVERAL PMs from folks here on the boards. Ranging from requests to questions about the site/boards to propositions to marrage. (Yes, I had one person PM me asking if I wanted to get married. lol)

Private Messages here on the boards are a feature that are not as utilized as they COULD be... but they're used. I do not directly read any PMs sent (as they would not be private anymore would they?)... but I do have reports on usage. So far there has been over 5,000 PMs sent though this board since it was first online.

But they're a great way of communicating with folks in the forums other than e-mail. And if a moderator pulls a post, or needs to warn someone for something that happens on the board, that information will be passed onto them via a private message.

  3. The dots are more for board moderators and administrators. Generally when editing is done in the thread, it's marked with a dot so we know there are edited sections inside.

The most common reason for the dot is for when a moderator merges a topic with another topic. There are many times it's more practical to just combine two topics into the same.

  4. Folks... I've been combining several topics relating to this one into this thread. Please keep all discussion regarding non-santioned events to this thread.

Originally discussion of non-santioned events were not even permitted on these boards, but we're trying to be a little more accomodating. So please try to keep general discussion of it in this thread and any reports you wish to post about it in the other thread remaining open on it.

Thank you for your cooperation.

  5. The problem right now with getting the logs posted to the boards is not the fault of the GMs. It's the fault of the new chat system.

While the rooms are very functional and have several nice features... one area that is lacking is the logging system. There is only one log generated per day for it. That means GMs have to go in and strip each log to have only the comments from they're events in there.

The rooms are powered by a 3rd party technology, so it's not something I have direct control over. But there are changes in the works for it. It will just be a while before it's ready to go live.

I have a copy of ALL master chat logs available to me. If you are curious about an event, PM me.

  6. Hi there,

Sometimes there is not a lot of time for GMs to keep notes about what happens during a sim as far as the plot goes. The GMs are generally busy trying to coorindate the sim, help new members understand how to sim, deal with any issues that arise during the event, as well as keep notes on cadet's progress towards graduation.

Logs of each event are kept by the GMs, so if anyone has any questions about what happened during a particular Academy, please let me know. I will dig up the log and you can read it. <_<

  7. They may not be a "super force"... but they can still be a threat like any other species. The Romulans, Cardassians, Gorn, and so on all are not massive super scarey forces... but they can each cause quite a bit of problems if they want to.

One of the things that really sucks is when there is a ALL POWERFUL species/being on a series/sim. Q was handled well, since there were still checks on what he could do. Heck... Q even was powerless for a bit. We don't allow it on our sims, and I don't think they can last long on the shows.

Sure... they can SEEM unstoppable for a while, but EVENTUALLY you learn more about them, how they operate, and what makes them "tick". Once you reach that point, you learn how you can stop them. <_<

  8. Here's a question...shouldnt it be...Congradulate STSF Precip...not Welcome STSF Precip since Precip has been around for quite a while already?

If a GM is posting a "welcome" message to him, it's most likely in reference to "Welcome to the ranks of the GM", not welcome to the forum. :)

  9. OK..fair enough...perhaps bickering was too string a word overall...however, I think you can agree there have been some....really strongly worded posts of late..not necessarily in THIS thread..thats all I was saying...

    censorship..bad

    free speech...good

Regarding topics being closed and removed... When posts are moved, they're never really deleted. They're moved into a hidden forum. During the past year, we have had a total of 21,572 posts made to these boards. Of those 21 thousand plus, only 101 posts have been locked and removed. That means less than 0.5% posts are removed from the site.

The MAJORITY of those 101 posts as I glance through them are either MAJORALLY off topic posts (such as abortion debate that got out of hand), spam posts (join my new Star Trek RPG), or duplicate posts.

I'd like to think the people who have access to the board's tools are pretty open and fair with they're use. If you think a thread you have posted in was closed unjustly, please let me know. I'd be happy to look at the thread and discuss it with you.

And regarding strong words and bickering being posted... if someone is posting something you feel is inappropriate, please click the REPORT button (see below for image) and let us know.

report.gif

We will deal with each situation on an individual basis. The GMs have tools at they're disposal to warn, moderate, and ban individuals who feel they can only cause trouble on the forums. But as you most likely have already seen, we're not folks who go around every chance they get warning people or banning them. In fact, we have yet to EVER actually ban someone from the boards.

My door is open if anyone has any questions at all regarding STSF that I can help with. I just ask that you remain civil, and keep the tone here on the boards in a positive light. The boards are meant to be a place for people to enjoy themselves. Each of us are people that contribute to this virtual home. So don't litter it up. LOL
