  1. Also... while I'm thinking about it... This has been done for quite a while. Academy Chat Logs As I go back and look... this has been done for over a year. A library for both Academy and Advanced sims was created on March 6, 2003.
  2. The problem right now with getting the logs posted to the boards is not the fault of the GMs. It's the fault of the new chat system. While the rooms are very functional and have several nice features... one area that is lacking is the logging system. There is only one log generated per day for it. That means GMs have to go in and strip each log to have only the comments from they're events in there. The rooms are powered by a 3rd party technology, so it's not something I have direct control over. But there are changes in the works for it. It will just be a while before it's ready to go live. I have a copy of ALL master chat logs available to me. If you are curious about an event, PM me.
  3. Hi there, Sometimes there is not a lot of time for GMs to keep notes about what happens during a sim as far as the plot goes. The GMs are generally busy trying to coorindate the sim, help new members understand how to sim, deal with any issues that arise during the event, as well as keep notes on cadet's progress towards graduation. Logs of each event are kept by the GMs, so if anyone has any questions about what happened during a particular Academy, please let me know. I will dig up the log and you can read it. <_<
  4. They may not be a "super force"... but they can still be a threat like any other species. The Romulans, Cardassians, Gorn, and so on all are not massive super scarey forces... but they can each cause quite a bit of problems if they want to. One of the things that really sucks is when there is a ALL POWERFUL species/being on a series/sim. Q was handled well, since there were still checks on what he could do. Heck... Q even was powerless for a bit. We don't allow it on our sims, and I don't think they can last long on the shows. Sure... they can SEEM unstoppable for a while, but EVENTUALLY you learn more about them, how they operate, and what makes them "tick". Once you reach that point, you learn how you can stop them. <_<
  5. If a GM is posting a "welcome" message to him, it's most likely in reference to "Welcome to the ranks of the GM", not welcome to the forum. :)
  6. Regarding topics being closed and removed... When posts are moved, they're never really deleted. They're moved into a hidden forum. During the past year, we have had a total of 21,572 posts made to these boards. Of those 21 thousand plus, only 101 posts have been locked and removed. That means less than 0.5% posts are removed from the site. The MAJORITY of those 101 posts as I glance through them are either MAJORALLY off topic posts (such as abortion debate that got out of hand), spam posts (join my new Star Trek RPG), or duplicate posts. I'd like to think the people who have access to the board's tools are pretty open and fair with they're use. If you think a thread you have posted in was closed unjustly, please let me know. I'd be happy to look at the thread and discuss it with you. And regarding strong words and bickering being posted... if someone is posting something you feel is inappropriate, please click the REPORT button (see below for image) and let us know. <center></center> We will deal with each situation on an individual basis. The GMs have tools at they're disposal to warn, moderate, and ban individuals who feel they can only cause trouble on the forums. But as you most likely have already seen, we're not folks who go around every chance they get warning people or banning them. In fact, we have yet to EVER actually ban someone from the boards. My door is open if anyone has any questions at all regarding STSF that I can help with. I just ask that you remain civil, and keep the tone here on the boards in a positive light. The boards are meant to be a place for people to enjoy themselves. Each of us are people that contribute to this virtual home. So don't litter it up. LOL
  7. Here's the link to the member suggestion box: Member Suggestion Box - Click Here Also... I don't see this discussion as bickering. It's just questions being answered. As I've said before, if there is anything I can do for you, my private messages and e-mail is always open. :) Each person who is involved with the running of STSF care about the forum and about the members. If you ever need a virtual hug, just send me a PM. hehe
  8. I'll toss in my two cents here too for what it's worth... Anytime there is anything of consequence to announce, it's posted for pretty much everyone to see. There are not too many things that are kept in the dark from the players. (Though GMs and the GM council may know about them a few days before the players, that's to be expected, lol.) Sometimes when we say it's being looked at, or we'll take it under consideration... it may not be something that is discussed day in and day out until a decision is made. Sometimes it's things we have on the back burner and hope to address eventually. There are many things here on the website that I eventually would like to see happen. But it's not something that may be able to happen in the near future (ie as in the next few weeks/months). By posting what I think I would like to do, people start getting they're hopes and expectations up. Then if something happens where I can't deliver, it makes me end up looking bad. lol As far as "reports" or whatever... I honestly think it's kind of counter productive. Any kind of announcement that is needed to be made is posted in our forums in the appropriate area. That way if something happens, we can communicate it quickly. Why bother with a report if the info is already there. Personally I don't see a need for "minutes" of the GM meetings needing to be posted such as "we've recieved 3 applicants for GM positions, had XXXX number of visitors to the website, want to look at organizing chat logs in a different way, etc". Those are things that honestly have absolutely no impact on players or effect how they play. If someone has a question regarding site traffic, my e-mail and private messages have ALWAYS been open. Plans and such about wanting to change this or that are communicated already on the forums... and things such as reviewing GM applicants of course has no reason to be in the public. Each person involved in the "management" of STSF is available to answer questions and such if you have a question. It's just there are times when a question is asked (such as when will we add more sims) that can't be answered right away. It's something that takes a while to properly look at, and sometimes the answer requires a lot more work to be done to get to it. But I don't think it's necessarily important to share each itty bitty step it takes to get there. lol In closing... if you feel we have not been open/forthcomming/honest with you, I'm sorry. Each of us try our best to keep the forum in the know about what's going on, what changes are happening, why those changes are necessary, etc. If there is anything specifically you are interested about, please private message me. I'd be happy to talk with you a bit more and explain anything.
  9. I was actually the XO of an Enterprise-era based SIM at one point in time. We were not Enterprise itself, but rather a ship that had launched somewhat after NX-06. In a way, it was played off of them being a sister ship and our ship's CO had somewhat of a friendly rivalry with the CO of the NX-06. It's plotlines generally had little to do with what was currently on the air at the time, but instead focusing on the types of things that were going on at that time. As far as a storyline in sim interfering or not matching up with something that might later happen in the series... I don't see that as a big deal. The FUNDAMENTALS of Trek are already established. Just because your Enterprise era sim might not be in the middle of the Expanse does not mean it could not have happened during that time period or that it even has to really acknowledge EVERYTHING that happens there. For example... we don't know the day to day operations of the Romulan empire, but we still manage to play out a sim with it pretty well... or in Aegis... the official series never really mention any kind of stations that are dedicated to helping rebuild Cardassia (although the end of DS9 showed the possibility of it being lead up to.... BUT never actually fully done yet). I could see a sucessful sim being done based on the series. ^_^
  10. I have them all on DVD. ;) It is nice to turn on though when there's nothing else to watch. hehe
  11. Also.. if you REALLY do want to write a log or two, please feel free to make use of these forums. A character log would definately be appropriate for the STSF Academy folder.
  12. OK.... way off topic. I'm closing this thread. If you want to continue discussion, please start a new topic. Thanks.
  13. I have not pruned any forum or catagory. The only posts that are ever removed are the ones that are locked topics. After a couple of days, I'll cycle them off of the public boards and somewhere else into another folder. You can try using the search feature to help find the post you are looking for. It has a number of options to help you narrow down what you want.
  14. I would blow up my ship week after week.
  15. If you choose not to play the wavs, you should not ever expierence lag from it. As someone who has worked with marketing for more than I care to admit... there is a rule ya have to remember.... you can NEVER have TOO MUCH advertising. The more avenues we can promote the "brand", the more attention it keeps on us. Also... remember... search engines base they're rankings based on how other sites link to them. So if we lost links to us, that would hurt the traffic to the site with visitors from search engines. Here's a quick break down of traffic to the site from some of the major search engines (this is only for this month) - Google 648 - Yahoo 37 - AOL 33 - MSN 27 - Unknown search engines 15 - Google (Images) 9 - Dogpile 5 - Netscape 5 - Earth Link 4 - AltaVista 4 - Overture 2 - Virgilio 1 - Euroseek 1 - Excite 1 - Kvasir 1 - Lycos 1 That's ALMOST 800 unique visitors in the first 22 days of the month that have come to the site from search engines. :P So never underestimate the power of linkage. lol
  16. It's really just a reason to give A9 or myself a reason to play in the board's Administrative Control Panel. :)
  17. Ummm... see post above? LOL Anytime you want to include HTML tags such as <table></table> or <marquee></marquee>, you need to include [.doHTML] as the opening tag and [./doHTML] as the closing tag (without the period... I only include it so the board does not think I'm issuing a real command to do it.) So if I want my text to scroll using the <marquee> tag, I would use: [doHTML]<marquee>This is scrolling text</marquee>[/doHTML] Using that code would result in: <marquee>This is scrolling text</marquee> That help?
  18. Because I said so. That's why. /whip
  19. You have the right command... you are just missing one element. You need to add [.doHTML] as the opening tag (without the period) and [./doHTML] to close the tag (again without the period.) <marquee>Test text</marquee> is really: [.doHTML]<.marquee>Test text<./marquee>[./doHTML] The dohtml tag is a security measure here on the boards to prevent some of the more malicious HTML tags from being used. :) Hope that helps. ;)
  20. Not yet. I've been very busy the past several days, so I have not had a chance to watch it yet. I have been trying to watch one each night as I head to bed.
  21. Recieved my Season 1 DVD in the mail yesterday. Watched Caretaker as I curled into bed last night. Was great seeing the series again. :)
  22. I'm sorry about the problems with the site's performance today. The server it was hosted on had major problems with the master configuration file and had to be rebuilt. In the mean time, I've moved the site to another server. I've put some changes into place where I'll be able to bounce the site between servers on as little as 15 minutes notice so if there are any major downtimes, we can try to keep anything from effecting it. Again, my apologies.
  23. I had to choose Bajoran. Very spiritual, while at the same time able to go in and get the job done when needed. I've always seen them as a very pasionate people with most everything they did.
  24. As someone who has a lot of background in radio... I loved Frasier. It's a show I always enjoy watching. I don't think there has been a single show of it that I have not gotten a good laugh.
  25. You would not want to see my desk at home. LOL. I have my primary desktop setup with 2 15" LCD monitors (dual monitor setup)... my laptop on the side desk, my Cisco IP phone (so I can have access to my work phone from home when needed), along with my printer, TV interface console, radio interface, my Nomad Jukebox 3 (I plan on getting one of the new iPods soon. They're just too cool.) Not to mention my Creative Labs speakers, whatever reference books I happen to have pulled out at the moment (right now a guide on advanced Bind 9 DNS settings for Linux servers), my "book of the moment"... John Grisham's The Last Juror, and my Super Big Gulp cup usually filled with ice water or iced tea. lol I also have one of the new iMacs at my other desk (not mine, loaned by a friend out of town for a few months) for web development purposes, my digital camera, video camera, headphone microphone set, and a few other gadgets. It's just a shame I don't get to be at home enough to play with it. lol Oh... not this month... but next month... I think I'm planning on getting a new sound card. I have been eyeing the new Sound Blaster sound cards. It has been something I've been drooling over for a while now. lol BTW... I normally don't watch a lot of TV on my computer monitors. I just pipe it back to the TV. It's a lot bigger, and the sound is better that way. :D
