  1. I plan to be there again this year as well. Instead of a table this year, I'll be pushing to just split the cost of a cabana for the weekend. :)
  2. A couple of my favorite memories from Shoreleave West... -- Bouncy balls! It was really funny seeing the head of the convention walk by the table... pass us taking a quick glance over and then stopping by the table where we had the bowl giving them away, then say "So THATS where those things are coming from. I've been seeing them everywhere!" -- Tattoos! I did not get any pictures of the new tattoos the Admiral brought, however some of us took the cheap route. <3 Huff -- Brent Spiner! No, he did not quite stop by our table, but he WAS right next to ours. He's always been one of my favorite actors. As I only had my RAZR with me, I did not get many pictures. However some of the experiences were too good not to mention... -- Dinner at Dave's Last Resort. Bubbles and Blow Bubbles. Priceless. -- Real STSF! Thanks KBear for the REAL superior turf from STSF.com. -- Wandering the strip with Dac and Mackey. Yes... A9, Sketti, and N'Dak were there... but this was about the women dangit! So many shoe stores... so little time. (The Miracle Mile in Planet Hollywood had more there than I think most cities have.) -- Gagh and warrior cookies with dinner. Seeing Fred go face first into the gagh will never let me look at a Klingon the same way again. -- The cabana... it would not be a real Shoreleave without it. -- Seeing the Captains all signing autographs. (As a Rear Admiral, I'm not important enough for autographs.) -- The USS Wesley Crusher recognized! Will Wheaton signs a photo for STSF. (Speaking of which... someone needs to send me the scan of that pic!) -- Visitor> "What class ship is it?" Dac> "Uhhhh... that's a good question. I don't know that." Visitor> "Arn't you the Captain?" Dac> "Yes"
  3. Souns like a cache problem. Clear your cookies and temp internet files.
  4. It depends on if Huff is on the ship or not. 2 for the ship, 1 for Huff. :D
  5. I'll be doing good enough to make it to Vegas this year. :D
  6. Tolls are mythical creatures found in the land of fantasy. Online those annoying people are SNERTS. :)
  7. I registered the domain. :) Who would have thought what would happen within a few years.... it's been an interesting ride.
  8. Muhaha... the place is MINE now! :)
  9. The hamsters got free. Someone forgot to close the cage all the way after feeding them. No.. seriously... a stick of memory in the server went bad. As it was more than just press the reboot button to fix, it took a bit longer than normal to come back up.
  10. I don't take credit for the end solution. Just for posting it. SYMPTOMS: ======== If, when loading the chat room, the blue loading bar appears for a very long time, and the chat room applet never comes up, the following may help you to immediately resolve the problem. This problem is also associated with very slow page loading using Firefox, and slow eMail sending/retrieval using Thunderbird. The following solution applies to Windows Vista users only. SOLUTION: ======== The Windows Vista TCP Stack has been re-written. The following solution appears to correct many internet-related issues with Windows Vista, and seems to resolve the problem. There should be no negative effects from performing the following; but we have provided you with instructions for undoing this should you feel it necessary. Part I: Disable TCP Autotuning -------------------------------------- 1. Click the Start (Windows Logo) icon 2. Select 'All Programs' 3. Select 'Accessories' 4. Right-Click on 'Command Prompt' 5. Click 'Run as Administrator' 6. A dialog box will ask you to confirm. Click the 'Continue' button to proceed. 7. Type: netsh interface tcp set global autotuning=disabled 8. Press 'Enter' 9. The message 'Ok.' should appear. 10. Type: exit Part II: Empty your Java Cache -------------------------------------- 11. Visit the chat rooms. 12. The Java icon will appear in your task icon list in the lower-right hand corner of your screen 13. Right-click the Java (coffee-cup) icon and select 'Open Control Panel' 14. Under 'Temporary Internet Files', click 'Settings' 15. Click the 'Delete Files...' button 16. A window titled 'Delete Temporary Files' will appear. Make sure all options are checked and click 'OK' 17. Click 'OK' to exit the 'Temporary File Settings' window. 18. Click 'OK' to exit the Java Control Panel Part III: Empty your browser's cache -------------------------------------- 11. Clear your browser's cache. 12. Shut down all instances of your web browser. That's all. You may now try to load the chat applet. This issue is likely to work itself out in the near future as future updates of Windows Vista and Java are released to the public -- once these updates have been released, your users will not be required to go through the above procedure. How to Un-do the above steps ============================ If, for any reason at all, you need to undo the above procedure, follow these steps: 1. 7. Type: netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal 8. Press 'Enter' 9. The message 'Ok.' should appear. 10. Type: exit
  11. I'm using 64 bit version of Vista Ultimate with no problems. ;) Been running it since 2/2.
  12. There have been a number of questions regarding avatars here on the boards lately. I'm going to try to answer as many as I can remember off hand in this thread to help clear up any remaining issues. If you have any questions regarding Avatars, please post them in this topic. Any questions asked in other topics will not be answered and may be possibly deleted for being off-topic. Question: I had an Avatar before we moved to the new board and now it's gone! Where did it go? Answer: When I moved the Avatar database over from the old board, there were several images uploaded that were absolutely HUGE. Before the board would simply just resize the avatar, even though it's still loading an image that is sometimes up to half a megabyte in size. As you can imagine, this is not very effective. It's something that has been changed. So for the new system to work, I had to wipe all Avatars that were previously on the server. Now when Avatars are uploaded, they're automatically resized upon upload. The board also now does a better job of enforcing size limits on the images. (See later question for more details.) Also, if you do not have a copy of your Avatar still, and REALLY REALLY REALLY need it again... I can send it to you since I have an offline copy of all files that were on the old server. Question: Can I still have an Avatar? Answer: Absolutely! Here's what you do: Click on the MY CONTROLS link found at the top, right hand side of the board. Find the PERSONAL PROFILE section on the left hand side of the page. Click on EDIT AVATAR SETTINGS. Choose your Avatar. (You can upload an Avatar or browse the existing library to pick one.) Click on the UPDATE AVATAR button when you are happy with your choice. You will notice there is now an Avatar Gallary. This helps me organize Avatars in a little more efficient manner. You will notice there is a "Base Gallary", a "Trek Gallary", and a "Smiley Gallary". Given this is a Trek forum, I'm personally betting you will like the starter images I have placed in there for your use. Question: Can I UPLOAD an Avatar? Answer: Yes, you can. Follow the steps above until you get to the part asking to you choose your Avatar. Then find YOUR IMAGE AVATARS towards the bottom of the page. You will be able to link to an Avatar already uploaded somewhere online, or you can click on the BROWSE button and upload an Avatar to our server. All images must be less than 40k in size. Question: What is the largest size Avatar I can have? Answer: We are now limiting all Avatar sizes to 125x125 pixals. If you attempt to upload an image larger than that, the board will say you are not allowed to upload it. Try resizing the image, and then uploading it again.
  13. There is some vicious rumor floating around online that I'll be making an appearence in Vegas this year....
  14. Earlier tonight I attempted to upgrade the board to the latest version of the IPB software. Unfortunately there were errors during the upgrade that could not be corrected that left the board in an unacceptable state. I attempted to revert back from the backup of the site I took just before the upgrade was done, however there were issues in rolling back from it. I had to instead fall back on my daily backup that I keep. This means posts from Thursday 12/21 from from 1:21AM ET were lost. Unfortunately I will not be able to recover them. I apologize in advance for the inconvienence and on the next upgrade attempt, I'll attempt to verify my mySQL dump first to make sure I get a good export. :P
  15. I know normally we don't post links, but I could not help myself on this one. :P http://www.elfyourself.com/?userid=e1e81f8...99f092G06122218
  16. Unfortunately the majority of the folks who exploit these things are not the brightest of folks. It's ONE person who finds out how it's done, then it's the billion other not-so-bright ones that go out and exploit it to kingdom come. Half the time, it's not even THEM doing this sort of thing. They try to find vulnerabilities using search engines, etc. Then just automate the crap.
  17. YIPE! :::hides after being spotted:::
  18. Oh so many memories...
  19. PM me with your needs (space, bandwidth, etc). Doing business on the board here is bad form, and would be unprofessional on my part. LOL.
  20. No. It was a stock image. Trust me... ya DO NOT wanna see our mug shots plastered on the website. It's a quick way to chase everyone away.
  21. At this point, no. The mailing list was removed since it never recieved a lot of positive feedback with it. Maintaining the software that ran it also was a major thorn in my side. There were security issues announced regarding it almost weekly, so when the site was redesigned... the mailing list was removed. Instead announcements were posted on the message board and on the front page of our website.
  22. It's always fun to go back and look at things done in the past. Yes, that was STSF's very first official website design. I had done about 5 total concept designs before that was settled upon. One of the designs ended up used elsewhere, the rest of them never was seen publically beyond a few people on the GM Council. I have done more than 40 different mockups for STSF's website template over the years. Most of them end up just being saved somewhere on a hard drive and never see the light of day. Regarding what real life stuff some of the GMs are involved with... I will never share real life personal info about someone without they're permission. But regarding what I'm involved with now... in real life I am a network administrator. I own my own website hosting, design, and consulting company. I have been involved with STSF since it's inception. From creating and managing the website to working with the other founding members on promotion and growing the group. I have run a few events in the past, but do not currently host an activity. Real life keeps me quite busy for right now. But I do frequent the chat rooms under various names. Many of you have chatted or simmed with me, but may not have known it. And there are times I visit the room as a recognizeable name... it just depends.
  23. :::whistles innocently:::
  24. Also... if your warning level reaches 100%, you automatically lose your posting rights. The only ones who can change that would be A9, Sovak, or myself. Generally it's not that big of a deal though, as 95% of the people here don't break the rules and get warned for doing so.
  25. If we're famous, when do I get to start collecting my paycheck? :D
