  1. So...were all saying that all of the Trek shows have both faults as well as good points offered? Basically? Let alone the differing opinions of a large fan base. An intensely loyal and opinionated fan base. Although I promised myself a long time ago that I'd never be that "One Fan" at the conventions. The one that argues some silly point of contention with one of the actors? With the intro of Trek 11, here is what my Trek preference listing looks like these days: 1.) New TOS/Original TOS (combined them, easier) 2.) ENT 3.) VOY 4.) DS9 5.) TNG TNG I've been over for a long time now. DS9 is okay, VOY is okay. I'd prefer VOY. I will say it was nice to see a female captain finally in Voyager; about dang time. Enterprise, Original Trek and the New TOS movie rock out. Would I like to see a New TOS Trek TV series? Actually....yes and no. ::shrugs:: I think the movie installments are where the franchise needs to stay for right now.
  2. Is this mutiny catching?!
  3. USS Agincourt will not be meeting for Dec 23 and Dec 30. Regular Sim activities will resume January 6, 2010.
  4. 12.16.09 Agincourt Mission Update: TBS: One Hour The away team continues to investigate over on the Rihan scrap yard port. The command team heads to a tactical planning meeting with the head of the scrap yard, while the Engineers and the CSEC head off on their own to try and stumble onto answers as to why 14 Rihan warbirds have gone missing. Ship side, it's business as usual, though the bridge staff seem mildly interested in a nearby nebula that registers on sensors.
  5. I've gotten the same reaction when I have Linkin Park or some such blaring out of the car speakers. It's like when you hit a certain age or are in a demographic you havta listen to certain music. ::shrugs:: Obviously people are just not open minded.
  6. To further clarify with will's posting and your response Seton: that's good for the post Academy period when you eventually sign on board one of the Advanced Sims and can really get down to the character development. The Academy system is currently set up so all Players are Human. Even if someone does start to play as another race during the Academies, it's pretty much ignored/not doable with regard to character development as the plots are only one hour one shots. Plain old humans who get eaten by the carnivorous Fire Ants on Denebis Prime...oh wait, guys, sorry, I typed that out loud and warned some of the cadets...
  7. Congratulations to Sage who graduated from the STSF academy system Thursday 12.10.09. Welcome to the Fleet Ensign Sage. - Thursday Academy Staff
  8. Welcome to STSF Cadet Seton. This is a wicked cool site to RP on. As for dating yourself? Some of our players have indeed been around since the dawn of time. You know, the Simeozoic Era?
  9. 12/09/09 Agincourt Mission Update: Time Between Sims: Very Short The manager of the Romulan scrap yard facility gives a tour to an away team consisting of the command team, engineering, and tactical depts; tentative plans are approached regarding tracking the missing warbirds. Some practical joke hijinks of the engineering variety ensue on the USS Agincourt, while a resident sniper questions the medical officer regarding Soltan anatomy weak points.
  10. The purchase would be up to you Leila. I used EBay (also known as the Pit of Never Ending Other People's Stuff) to purchase 4 action figures and 2 vehicles from the old ThunderCats 80's show. The items are in good shape, as are the vehicles. My account has been canceled for a while, and I never tried for costumes or clothing, but here are some concerns I'd have: - Is the TWOK uni tunic really worth it, especially with the missing accessories that you would need to purchase from another sellers lot? - Have you checked out any online costume sites that might be selling a complete TWOK uniform? And a new Item? - If that costume was worn by somebody else and not new, that also might be kinda gross...toys are one thing (and can be cleaned off), but parasite bugs such as lice can't nest in plastic. - Item storage: mildew on the fabric might be a concern.
  11. MISSION BRIEFING: We have been asked, through somewhat... sort of... not entirely... official channels, to investigate the disappearance of some Romulan ships that had been destined for decomissioning and the scrapyard. CourtChatLog09_12_2_.txt
  12. 12.02.09 Agincourt Mission Update: Time Between Sims: 3 Hours The Agincourt begins the first stage of our new mission: tracking the disappearance of a number of Romulan warbirds from a scrap yard. The reason we have been 'asked" to undertake this mission? The Agincourt and her crew represent a neutral party - we can investigate what is going on without upsetting certain factions within the Romulan government.
  13. Star Trek: Enterprise did some things well, and other things went off the mark. Despite the one sided opinions winged at ENT most of the time during discussions such as these, I still like the show, didn't really see anything all that bad about it. It remains the only full Trek series that I have on DVD besides the Original Series. From a monetary standpoint, ENT is easier to collect what with four seasons as opposed to seven seasons. From a personal viewer standpoint, I like that frontier and adventure feel of ENT, and to me it is the closest modern series to duplicate the original sci fi adventure "feel" of TOS. Like the other one sided opinions, this is my own - one sided - opinion. There have been worse series (and movies) subjected on viewers.
  14. A Q TV Series? With that particular brand of wry omnipotent humor that the older members of the race seem to possess (Q, Q2)? I'd lose patience about halfway through the premier episode and start tossing random solid objects at the television.
  15. Have not played the games, have checked out the movie. Definitely the sort of film where you order pizza, get a group together, and proceed to make fun of the film....alcohol would help as well to deaden the impact of the movie. :P
  16. 9 Happy Birthday Admiral!
  17. I *was* a PC gamer for about one year (Star Trek Elite Force 2 and Wolfenstein Enemy Territory) but then switched back to console gaming. Honestly, I think console gaming is better. Less game updates, patches, map downloading, chances of viral infections. You open the game, insert the disc and boom - good to go and play.
  18. I'm a FPS and RPG gamer by choice. For FPS games, if I am able to circle a target area and employ a sniper rifle, I'm a happy camper. I'm all about keeping distance. If this is not an option, I prefer up close and personal with some sort of in game shot gun weapon. Currently, I'm looking forward to the RPG/Action game Mass Effect 2 on XBox. I would like to play the upcoming Star Trek Online, but I doubt my PC -- though newer -- can handle the game. Can't really justify putting the money out in order to upgrade the computer on the basis of one game, no matter how cool it looks.
  19. Roster Update 07.14.10 Current Openings: Please contact CO Col. C.E. Harper or XO STSF Kansas via Board PM or [email protected] if you'd be interested in serving with the Band of Brothers. Chief Science Officer (OPEN) Assistant Medical Officer (3 Openings) Assistant Science Officer (3 Openings) Assistant Security Officer (1 Opening) EDIT: Marine and Engineering Depts have no openings.
  20. Don't know about Voyager so much as Enterprise being the Trek series that is targeted as the scapegoat of the franchise...a view which I do not share much less understand.
  21. Note: the following is an off plot log set in the Mirror Universe of the ISS Agincourt storyline. 11.29.09 ISS Agincourt ICC-81762 “Klepping Personnel” Commander Kansas ‘Will’ JoNs was currently on the Marine NNC command deck and working on some Padd work in her private office. Well…working on some official Padd work and cultivating multiple personnel options off the record, that is. The Caitian was a cat with a plan, you might say. She called out her chief bodyguard on point duty outside the office, instructing the other female in a low though clear tone to enter the confines of the office. Once the Andorian female had walked the few steps into the office area and adopted a relaxed parade rest in front of the feline Exec’s desk, JoNs verbally ordered the office’s security system to close and lock the entry way door and opaque the picture window that overlooked the NNC deck from the current clear setting to a light gray to give a sense of privacy. “Lieutenant Mical. I want you to do some recruiting. Specifically, I’m interested in one of the enlisted officers currently serving within Lieutenant Caine’s department -- Mattingly.” One blue tinged antenna swooped forward in curiosity. “Mattingly? I’ve seen her around. Bajoran, usually works the receiving desk for the brig when she’s not on patrol duty. Call sign is Bulldog. Any particular reason you’re interested in Mattingly Sir?” Kansas glanced at Mical, studying the cobalt blue skinned Andorian female closely before finally deciding to share what she was thinking; the woman’s tone was honestly curious, so JoNs intended to respond truthfully to her senior guard officer. “Sit down Lieutenant…I’m interested in her mainly because of the way she handled herself during the night of the dustup with Decatur, when we all traipsed into the security offices and she was on desk duty. Kept her head, didn’t get rattled. A bit bemused at the whole incident as I recall…” Mical raised a delicate white eyebrow in equal parts curiosity and minor confusion, while her second antenna came forward to match the first one in positioning “She didn’t really stand out to me either way Commander during that night.” The golden furred felinoid purred a bit, “Well, you were busy making sure no one tried to shoot me in the back…again,” and the purr degraded into a growl at the memory; Decatur was one of Caine’s pet goons, and had attempted to assassinate Kansas on the night in question. The commander had survived the attack, though not unscathed. She was damn lucky that she had some combat backup in the unlikely form of a lover liaison for the night, otherwise the evening would have turned out much different. Then again, if she hadn’t been so, ah, distracted by the ministrations of her liaison partner in the first place, then Decatur never would have gotten the drop on Will in the first place. “And Mattingly did stand out to me that night, mainly due to a past experience I had a few years back that I can use for comparison. I was serving as a junior Ensign on the ISS Thunder Cat completing a remote site Academy training program. One of the bridge lieutenants -- a big blond haired Human with the looks to match his career sense -- was a rising star among the crew. "He was very good at his job, ruthlessly efficient, yet well liked by a lot of the crew and had amassed quite a spread of contacts and followers among the lower ranking junior officers. He was at the junior El Tee rank, but all of us knew he’d leap up the ranks quickly…” JoNs lowered her purred voice, even though it was just herself and Mical in the office and the feline had engaged her scrambler devices as she normally did to counteract any electronic bugs, “...but the bottom line was he was a poster boy for the Starfleet, that sort of over achiever officer that the Humans love to promote as a prime example of the species.” JoNs paused for a moment, and then continued with her explanation regarding the interest she held towards the Bajoran security officer. “I had the tactical console station on the main bridge, and the 2nd Officer and the Exec got into it right there in front of the bridge crew this one afternoon. The two of them had a similar relationship to myself and Lieutenant Caine, as in they couldn’t stand one another, and the whole situation came to actual blows right there in front of the bridge crew on duty before the captain was alerted to the altercation and intervened. Anyway, this Lieutenant was so flippin’ scared when our senior commanders started trying to tear each other apart, he pissed himself. Couldn’t tell, not with the black uniform trousers,” she flicked at the material of her own trousers with a claw, “but I could smell it,” and then indicated her sensitive nose with the same paw. “By contrast, when an enlisted security officer is bemused when the Ex Oh shows up in the security offices, bleeding, holding one of the junior commissioned security officers at gun point? And she gets a charge out of having to contact her chief as well as finding the whole general situation funny? Oh yeah, that’s why I’m interested in this Bulldog Mattingly.” Mical had settled herself in one of the two office guest chairs. “How should I approach the mark? Blatant or under the radar?” “Combination of the two. Don’t be obvious so that Caine’ll notice, but be up front when you approach Mattingly -- let her know that she has a place on my payroll if she’d be interested, and then leave it at that.” Will flashed a genuine smile at her chief bodyguard, her incisor fangs flashing with the gesture, and winked; Her green feline eyes were alight with the typical mischief that she enjoyed so much. “You know how the Master Chief could be. It’ll be nice to have someone on the payroll again who has a sense of humor in a situation such as that, and similar situations as they happen and come about.”
  22. And, per the special features on Star Trek 11: writers Orci and Kurtzman (who are Trek fans, yes) actually looked to the three original Star Wars films as a sort of corner stone to update/base the new Trek action (such as the firefights) in the movie on -- to satisfy the so called modern movie audience. You know, hearing the "pew ping pew pew ping" of the phasers on the Narada run and gun fight as opposed to the "stand still and fire the phaser that has a long phaser beam so the special effects can kick in"? The Original Wars films were considered by the writers...not the three newest prequel films. Personally, I agree with that because the three originals are Star Wars to me, not the three newer films....I don't know what the three new Wars films are supposed to be. Another thing, speaking of Lucas controlling Wars canon to within an inch of its life - the Wars books are considered canon. I still say Trek fiction books should be considered canon as well.
  23. Might have an answer for that: on the special features? The director of photography employed a wide screen camera lens, and from what I could gather from the commentary, this is now considered an "old school camera" method to employ, what with everything going digital. As a result, there can be/are imperfections in the shots. But, the reasoning for the wide screen method was that Abrams and the production guys wanted to have an in character gritty and real look to the film, and the wide screen allows that, and the digital does not.
  24. We *still* use our imaginations here at STSF. When I was a kid, I wanted to be a Starfleet officer, but we all know that can't really happen. Yet, as an adult, STSF enables me to RP as a Starfleet officer. Fair trade, I'd say. :D
  25. You're referring to the "I just had twins, and I'm sooooo tired, but I decided to smile for the digital camera in order to be totally nice to the proud photographer type person buzzing about my bed" look, Admiral? Indeed!
