“Convening Contradictions” Captain Talsia Sundown idly twirled an empty coffee mug on the desktop surface. This simple physical action was assuring: the mug was slowly turned in the same pattern over and over, causing the slight scraping sound from the bottom of the mug as it moved across the surface. It was unfortunate that the current situation on Aegis station was not assuring in the same way. The only discernable pattern regarding the legal situation here was one of chaotic navigation and plenty of speed bumps. Sundown’s own thoughts were as well unpredictable, going back and forth between volatile and confused. The information on the desktop viewer was paused with yet another report regarding the case, and various Padds as well as flimsy portfolios and reports relevant to the case lay scattered across the desk surface. It looked as if a small tornado had flown through the office. The convening JAG officer let loose with a frustrated sigh as she stood up from her seat behind the desk and wandered over to the view port window of her assigned quarters aboard the Yorktown. Her gaze was drawn to the Aegis work bee shuttles as the automated robots shot this way and that around the starship and went about their pre-programmed repair parameters for the various civilian and commercial ships docked at the busy station. Something is not right here. Sundown understood that while Sky Harbor Aegis was undoubtedly a strategic and diplomatic necessity here in the Cardassian sector of space, the station was still (and Sundown had to be careful and keep this delicate opinion to herself) in the back end of nowhere. There were dozens of other up and coming colony worlds, space stations, and ground based stations that could be considered more important with regard to legal cases. So – why the rush on this particular case? Admittedly, the charges - which ranged from hazarding of a vessel to conduct unbecoming an officer - were very serious. But, again, there were dozens of other sector wide cases to be considered more important then this one case involving the Ferengi commanding officer of some backwater frontier station. Again, why the rush to transfer Sundown and the other convening officers here to this case? The defense as well? The intended officers for the prosecution hadn’t even had enough time to review all of the case information per their own admission. There should have been more of an inquiry stage, and definitely more prep time; the required and full operating procedures had not been followed with regard to this case. Talsia reluctantly pulled away from her vantage point, resigning herself to another session with the desktop terminal and the myriad of Padds and flimsies. She had been studying the various charges against Captain Muon Quark, commanding officer of Aegis, bio's of the deceased crew of Endeavour, most notably Captain Savage, mission logs, and the like. There was more to this… or was there? There had to be a logical explanation as to why this whole case reeked of unease. Sundown settled in at the desk again, and decided to again access the available mission files of the now scuttled Endeavour and her deceased crew, starting with the commanding officers profile. At times, the deceased members of a case were deceased for a reason. “Captain Savage. Let’s see what tales you can tell me as a dead man…”

Well, Halloween is done, and we are launched full force into the Christmas holiday rush/markeing schtick - the commercials are on, and I've already spotted decorations at local stores/malls. (And I love holiday music just as much as the next person...but make it stop. Please. My ears are bleeding. It's too early - I don't wanna hear about the stupid red nosed reindeer this close to Turkey Day!) Thanksgiving has been totally dropped into the Netherverse. ;-)
