  1. Good stuff!
  2. 7:00 PM Thursday... ;) Got my tickets this week. I was surprised it wasn't sold out. Then again, I live in the heart of NASCAR country...
  3. When I came in the earth cake directly under the enterprise. I got nervous that the enterprise was going to somehow come crashing down and destroy the earth, so I moved the earth. And yes, she is definitely a keeper.
  4. In honor of my birthday and the new movie, my wife went all creative on me. ;) Yes, the cake is suspended off of a hanging light.
  5. Thanks guys! :D I get to celebrate by taking a final exam tonight! ;)
  6. Feel free to PM Atragon9. He's always open to your thoughts and ideas. But don't be surprised if they're unwilling to change a system that's worked well for over 15 years. ;)
  7. These pre-premieres are all a part of marketing. Especially in an era of new media, even though only a handful (in terms of the U.S. population) have seen the movie, their thoughts, praises and quickly spread around the net. It helps build anticipation if the movie is good. If it's bad, well, then such previews can hurt a movie. I do think the hype of this movie has been very well executed, as compared to, say Star Wars: Episode 1. Perhaps though, I'm biased because I thought Episode 1 was just plain bad. The video game industry does this in a similar way with demo disks, though, video game companies have much more stringent rules on release dates (like movie DVDs). Companies can get fined for putting out a release before its launch date. Years ago, when I was a teen and worked in the Toys R Us video game department, I remember management threatening that we would be fired if we sold something before its release date. Maybe a little over the top, but I understand the reasoning.
  8. I'm pretty sure you're a senior citizen at this point. Too bad that doesn't get you a discount at Drank's. Happy B-day. ;)
  9. LOL, that's why they offer it seven days a week. ;)
  10. A little chime in on Trek on the web. In case you didn't know, most (all?) of TOS episodes are available for free streaming in CBS.com. Too bad that's the only series up there.
  11. Welcome aboard, Allen. Hope you enjoy your time here. :D
  12. Welcome, welcome! Great to have you here. Look forward to seeing you around! :D
  13. Welcome to STSF! :D Hope you are enjoying your time here.
  14. I always forget what the YouTube policy is precisely here, but here is a link to a great 2 minute video explaining Twitter called "Twitter in Plain English". These guys do a lot of other videos on social networking and internet-based applications, though my personal favorite is "Zombies in Plain English." As Sam said, Twitter is for people who really are interested in the minutia of your life. In the the realm of politics, where I work, it's a great source for information sharing, breaking news, etc. It can also serve as an alternative media medium like blogging currently does. Alternative media in the last decade or so has transformed the way the traditional media does business, in part, by providing them more sources and in some instances, placing pressure on journalists to reduce bias in reporting. In general, though, I think Facebook has much more staying power.
  15. I like Twitter and all, but their site can be horribly slow, especially during the work day.
  16. Space warfare in Trek always seemed incredibly strange to me. I often wondered what happened to all those stray shots. Would a photon torpedo keep traveling until it met with another object? What about beam weapons? Would they dissipate over time? Maybe some of you can shed light on this subject.
  17. So um... yeah. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,515899,00.html
  18. Welcome to STSF! Look forward to seeing you around...and I caught your G&S reference. "I thought so little, they rewarded me, by making me the ruler of the Queen's Navy." :o
  19. You put those kind of specs into any machine and you better experience "sheer performance." :o
  20. Welcome back. :o
  21. This picture wasn't as exciting as when I first saw it... so I'll give this one to Sumo. Runner up, everyone else. ;)
  22. Welcome back, TKAR. ;)
  23. Welcome to STSF!
  24. What? How dare you question the infallibility of science! ;) The problem with science is not science, but the humans who practice it. ^_^
  25. What, you're not going to tell him about the tattoo?
