This planet's atmospheric properties constantly regenerate the DNA of its inhabitants. The native people keep a private, quiet life, considering their village a sanctuary of life; they have not taken advantage of their 'immortal' circumstances beyond living a healthy, long life. Vastia, though happy with his life, felt the urge to make a difference and help others, and felt this restrained by life in the private Ba'Ku village. When Vastia was 16, the events concerning the Duck-Blind Mission, the So'Na race and primarily the U.S.S. Enterprise (See Starfleet mission records file ∑115.6-B for reference) took place. With this introduction to Starfleet and the Federation, Vastia saw possibilities for his desires to make a difference. At the age of 17,after discussing these motivations with his family, Vastia approached the council of Elders of the village and requested to leave the planet and study Science and Medicine at the Starfleet Academy. This caught the entire village off guard and there were extensive and varied reactions. After 6 months of deliberation, the council of Elders agreed that Vastia's motivation to leave was of worthy cause. After contacting Starfleet with the little equipment they had left intact for emergencies, a shuttle was dispatched to Ba'Ku to pick up Vastia and transport him to Earth for Academy entrance. (Based upon Entrance Consultation) Physical and Psychiatric Summary Vastia is in excellent physical shape due to both active physical training and the regenerative properties of his homeworld. Upon leaving his home, his physical condition should not decline substantially provided he keeps up a healthy lifestyle. He has had no major medical incidences to date; small childhood injuries have healed completely. Psychologically Vastia has an extremely focused mind. He is highly disciplined and perceptive, yet this rigid focus does not seem to tense his social state, that is, he can maintain this focus while being in a very relaxed state. He holds the unique ability to embrace any temporal/spatial event with extreme focus, seeming to prolong that moment (without affecting real-time) and take note of every minute piece of sensory information in his surroundings. Vastia was at first somewhat apprehensive around the technology presented to him in his Starfleet training; this is a result of his upbringing. He has however embraced the scientific technology because of the insights it has given him and has developed a general comfort with other technologies Vastia is in (more than) adequate physical and psychological condition to serve aboard a starship. Before leaving his homeworld, he had spent 10 years in an apprentice program crafting glass for both artistic and structural purposes. He entered this program after showing stunning work in this as a young student. He is also skilled in music, playing the Ethei (an ethnic wind instrument similar to a modern flute), and has skills in painting. He is rather advanced in math and science, particularly chemistry. Vastia's Uncle, Tournel, is one of his village's doctors. From him Vastia gained some knowledge in introductory medicine as a child which served as good preparation for the Academy and Medical School.
