  1. It is a nightclub run by Joe Manning, where you have the opportunity to relax with other people. You chat in character, and there's only one job, bartending, and you have the opportunity to volunteer, or not. Though if everyone goes for the or not, Joe will choose someone. It's a great deal of fun, and no stress! Drop in sometime! Then you can stick around for the TOS era Academy thereafter.
  2. Can't it be both? :P
  3. Oops, the way I did that seems to have squished the screen, so I deleted the previous version... Welcome to the Star Trek Simulation Forum! I found the following resources helpful when I started out: Tips from the Moose How to Sim The Rules Hope to see you in the Academy!
  4. I don't think I can compliment someone again for at least a week until I recuperate from that!
  5. Found another one... >>Sorry, wasn't aware that re-opening these old topics was taboo, my apologies<< I've always been the most fond of the Voyager unis. Many of the other uniforms say to me: "Hello, I am a uniform designed to look pretty for a TV series, not for productive real life use." The Voyager unis look comfortable and like something you'd be able to wear everyday to do a variety of tasks.
  6. I'm having fun resurrecting these old polls... >>Sorry, wasn't aware that re-opening these old topics was taboo, my apologies<< Now that the show is over, and we've had plenty of time to see the characters through the end, [and some time to catch the reruns if the original airdates were pushed away for sports, like mine were], why not catch back up on the NXers. My vote goes to Trip. Many reasons, but primarily his personality just... pops out of the screen, and is adorable.
  7. Talk about pulling a topic out of the depths, it's been a few years since this one has graced the "New Posts" section. >>Sorry, wasn't aware that re-opening these old topics was taboo, my apologies<< As to the question, it's very difficult to try to compare ships of different eras, but I chose the Sovereign Class, NCC-1701-E, primarily because, more than any other Starship Enterprise, it had a distinct advantage in performance over other vessels, not just in the Federation but other fleets as well.
  8. The problem with Enterprise, in my view, was that it was a UPN show. Having to mold the show for the network and trying to maintain the ratings forced the show to veer away from the real Trek ideal. If there is ever another Trek series, it should be syndicated, like TNG and DS9 were.
  9. After trying Firefox for the first time, I fell in love. :P My main problem has been with Firefox not responding, but heck, that happens with YM, AIM, Thunderbird, etc. etc. etc. That's just my computer being naughty. You should have heard all the swearing when I was using IE.
  10. =/\= Personal Log Ens Sendai Riko I finally left my quarters today. After receiving a communique from Cadet... no, Ensign T'Prel, now... Anyway, she, in her usual Vulcan way, reminded me of how illogical it was to sit around waiting for a communication that could easily be recorded should I be away. She's on a shuttle for Vulcan, now, as usual. Her parents must be very proud... I mean satisfied with her. She whooped up on me academically, of course. I'll miss her very much, she was always that calm voice that I needed. Hopefully our paths will cross again. I found myself walking around campus today, looking over the places that I had enjoyed very much, or had always hurried past on may way here or there as I was running behind schedule. Ensteins quote about relativity comes to mind, thinking about my time here at the Academy. At times, I felt I would never escape this place, but now that I am done, it seems that I spent little time here at all. I remember how... artificial this place seemed when I first arrived here. I suppose it has grown on me, for I have a little fondness for it now. It is the people that I'll miss the most, though. T'Prel and her cool logic, Thad and his unpredictability, my professors, terrifying or kind, and in some cases both. I still have heard no word from Starfleet Personnel. I try very hard to remain patient, as my mother always scolded me, but it is hard to sit here, knowing that I can finally be out there, amongst the stars. I suppose it will come soon enough, and that in no time I'll be wishing for the simplicity of being a cadet. A far less enjoyable task still lies before me, but I will wait until I have final news... My parents will be very disappointed that I will not return home, but I hope that they understand, Prophets willing. Oh, there's Thad. We're heading out to dinner, some place in Oakland, I believe. Computer, end log. =/\=
  11. Wow, that's quite a poster. :: considers spot on wall where one would look lovely :: It's an intriguing concept for a Trek movie, let's hope they don't screw it up.
  12. She kills many cadets with a knack, How many shoes she owns, she's lost track, Skilled at role-playing, As I was saying, Happy birthday to you GM Dac! << You may now boo my effort at limerick :P >> Happy Birthday Dac!!!
  13. lol !!! Not enough chlorine in the world for that.
  14. :: eagerly awaits the "Rest of the story" ::
  15. If you would kindly oblige me to have: > Irregularly Insouciant I would be most grateful. Thankee,
  16. Personally, if it doesn't have chocolate somewhere, it's not worthy. :P
  17. I hope you're not including Trek films in that blanket statement! :P
  18. Sendai Riko stood in his dormitory room, looking out of the small window overlooking the campus. Behind him his trunk stood open, its contents neatly packed away. It had not even been a week since his graduation, and already he had dispatched his application to Starfleet's Personnel Director, never one to lay in sloth when there is work to be done. Sendai hoped that he would receive a posting before he had to vacate his room, as he did not relish the thought of seeking a temporary living arrangement on Earth. Stepping away from the window, Sendai grabbed the PADD from the nightstand next to his narrow bed. He again read the short letter from his parents. Congratulations, Riko! We are so very proud of you, and you know that we would have come to the ceremonies if we could have. We're looking forward to throwing a big party for you when you come back home. We love you so much, Mom & Dad Sighing, Sendai flipped the PADD back onto the nightstand. He had yet to send his parents his reply, as he did not want to see the look of disappointment on their faces. Bajor was a long way away: any time he spent in transit would be longer than his stay. Lying back onto the bed, he stared up at the ceiling, thinking of how to break the news to them. Suddenly, his console began to chirp. He launched himself off the bed and ran over, taking a moment to wipe the hair out of his eyes. Noting that the communication was coming from San Fransisco, Sendai muttered a little prayer to the Prophets that it would be the Admiral. Reaching out, he pressed the accept button on the console. A lively young human face popped up onto the screen, smiling broadly. "Heya, Riko! We're heading over to the Rec to play some volleyball, you want to come join us?" Asked fellow graduate Ensign Thaddeus Meier. "No," Sendai said quietly. Though Meier was one of his best friends from the Academy, he had no desire to speak to anyone that wasn't brass. "I'm expecting a communique, Thad, sorry." "Well, all right," Meier replied. "I'll see you later, then, maybe. Meier out." The viewscreen flashed off, returning to standby mode, with the symbol of the Academy popping up on the screen. Sighing, Sendai walked back over to the window, and resumed his unfocused scan of the bright, well-tended campus.
  19. I found the following resources to be quite helpful to me as I was (and still am) starting out. :P >>Tips from the Moose >>STSF Rules >>A good log resource from the Challenger Feel free to ask more questions!
  20. That depends on the Wal-Mart. A lot of them aren't stocking anything but the newest, most popular PC games anymore because of the success of console gaming.
  21. Greetings and Salutations, Shirai! Indeed, one must go through the Academy if you want to join an Advanced Sim. The Academy is a great deal of fun, and it's a great way to meet people from many different sims. Also, if you have the time and inclination, I'd recommend reading through the various Logs, Briefs and Bios, just to give yourself a better understanding of what goes on here, and also dropping in and watching the Advanced Sims. All of the above were a great help to me (I just graduated myself). I look forward to seeing you in the Academy, cadet! Most sincerely,
  22. Well, I'd say one of the most promising Star Trek games, at least in concept, hasn't even hit store shelves yet. It's a MMORPG from Perpetual Entertainment. Go here to see more about it. Unfortunately, it is still in development, even though it was supposed to start beta testing this year. :: sigh :: Hopefully we intrepid Star Trek fans won't be dissapointed again by a game with a lot of hype but mediocre gameplay.
  23. QoD Messnr was kind enough to run an Acad for those of us who didn't make it to the message board to see this, and much thanks! And it was a good night to die... the Romulans found that out! :D
  24. I just want to thank all the existing graduates for participating in the Academy this last week. After my first week in the Academy, I've had a blast, and it would be hard to do without you guys and gals (and other various assorted genders and species) coming in to sim with us cadets. I'm planning, on that sunny day in the future when I graduate and get a post, to follow your examples and continue going to the Academy to do all that I can to help out, and not to mention have a lot of fun at the same time. I can't forget the GMs, of course, who patiently put up with our ignorance and mistakes, and help point us in the right direction. Thank you for all the effort you put in, and I look forward to simming with you well into the future, pips or no pips. To all my fellow cadets, it's been fun, and I look forward to more good times. Thanks so much, everyone! P.S. Thanks for all the advice, too!
