  1. You watch these apes all day and see how long YOU keep a full head of hair!
  2. My understanding B5 ran it's course, it wasn't cancelled. Now the Crusade spin off thing, that stunk and lasted longer than it should have. Usually I want to know how even a bad show resolved it's running issues...but with Crusade, nope..don't care...let Earth die... less painful than having to watch this mess. As for quotes, I know I liked the show and it's many one liners but I can't think of any off the top of my head. Have to look an episode or two up on In2TV.
  3. Maybe The Sci-Fi Channel could use the open slot in their schedule to pick up Enterprise and give it a second shot.
  4. If you had a chance to design a sim from the ground up, what would you do? I'd like to hear and share some ideas. Poster retains the rights to any ideas...so no swiping anything for yourself GM's. One idea I've done but didn't get very far cause the sim group I was in had a poor recruiting staff was: -USS Athena. This was a TOS movie era sim. A Klingon D-7 cruiser's crew vanished. It's next crew kept complaining of system failures and finally decided the ship was cursed. So, they added it to the next batch of cruisers-for-cloaks exchange with the Romulans. It served the Romulans well until a supply mission to a hidden base within the Federation frontier where it suddenly lost it's cloak and all main power right as a Starfleet patrol came into the area. While the Romulans managed to destroy the base before being captured the ship's self destruct system would not arm. Starfleet now had an enemy ship that could operate in both Romulan and Klingon space. She was made to run Federation, Romulan, or Klingon system configurations with a holographic comm system that could give a number of false images. This was before the ban on Federation cloaking systems so there was no issue at the time about retaining that piece of equipment. Outer hull markings were exchangeable to fit the theater of operations they were in. The ship was used for Black Ops and patrolling inside enemy boarders. There was a catch to the ship that explained all the odd malfunctions the Klingons and Romulans experienced and would one day test the moral fabric of it's Starfleet crew. -TOS Starbase. Set shortly after the TOS episode "Arena". A starbase is set up at or near Cestus III. It is a joint operation between the Federation and Gorn to help establish a secure boarder between the two peoples. It's crew has the mission of exploring the worlds along the boarder and selecting which are best for Federation colonist, Gorn colonist, or joint colonization. Local trader ships cause problems as they look for revenge on the Gorn's attack of Cestus III. The Orions aren't really happy of their hold on trade in the area slipping into a free market either. Some Gorn don't quite trust the Federation yet. And the Klingons are more than willing to throw a few wrenches into the machinery of peace (seeing as this area is outside of the Organian treaty zone). The sim would have a Starfleet and a Gorn scout craft for support ships. A combined marine detachment would also be located at the station. I've dubbed this as "Aegis, the pre-quill". Okay, there's a couple of ideas I've had. How about y'all. Am I the only one who things about this stuff?
  5. I've made one like that before. USS Eagle, Constellation class, (righth when the class of ship is first launched). It was assigned to patrol the Klingon boarder, aid with the continuing relief effort to Qronos, and be one of the first ships to do scientific work in and past Klingon space. It also had a marine attachment. I loved this sim because I created it but then gave it to someone else to run and I played a normal character. So, I could enjoy it and not worry about running it. Also my marine character was in the K9 division and my dog quickly became the ships mascot (and outlived my stay on the ship actually).
  6. This brings up something that has troubled me with the way ST has been seen for a while now. Star Fleet is not military in any current form we know. TOS' whole "5 year mission" was exploration and diplomatic. Ship Captains are the primary diplomatic core; making first contact, negotiating treaties and trade agreements, settling regional disputes, and the like. This had alot to do with the optimistic TOS view that the fleet wasn't something to be threatened by. The "military" wasn't held in check by some powerful governmental body, it was held in check by the basic moral fabric of the Federation as a whole. And miring a sim in legalism can destroy the fun of the game. But so does characters doing things Star Fleet officers never would do. Usually one creates the other and then you have a trial sim which are the WORST.
  7. You should try a starbase sim. Also you'd probably like this.... Aurura Trek. It's a CGI Fanfilm set in the TOS era onboard a private freighter. While they only have the first part up it's intended goal is to "seeing what life's like for everyone else".
  8. Can't speak for others but any ideas of mine you want to submit, go for it... I just want to be in the loop so the idea doesn't get butchered. That's kinda what happened to the Athena sim I mentioned. We were on our own, joined a group, had some issues with them, and had a lot of trouble when we left because they were claiming name and concept rights to the sim.
  9. What was that? Ensign Ramson stood at the computer console outside of the science lab. She looked at the scans of the room beyond the blast doors, which now finally were working again. Whatever it was it now wasn't here. The gaping hole in the side of the ship was proof of that. She looked again at the scans. "Sir, forcefields are holding and the lab is repressurized. We have lifesigns still in there." Atleast somesort of lifesign, one she wasn't familiar with. One inwhich her empathic senses could tell was hurt. Waiting further orders Kallah began to compile all the sensor readings together. That thing's dampening field left most of the records a wash of static. But, even the static itself might give clues. She gathered data from the edges of the effected areas, maybe they could figure it's frequency and power by these. She added the residual energy patterns left in it's wake. Again, perhaps some clue to it's operation could come from this. Dissipating radiation patterns from the blasted bulkheads, subspace field stresses to the local area and matter, EPS energy fluctuations in the local grid, audio records, visual, olfactory, anything and everything she could think off she recorded and saved before they faded into nothingness.... just as the thing and it's captives had. They wanted more information about the Scorpiod, they had best start gathering it now.
  10. That is an old publicity photo doctored up. No, I'm not old enough to remember when that photo first came out... but I do know which photo it is. While an Excellent job you can see the rank stripes on Spock's wrist and the new movie is suppose to be them at the Academy. And no that wasn't a meteor shower. that was Roddenberry's ashes turning over in their orbital grave.
  11. Sky Harbor Aegis is a space station in the Cardassian system. It has support craft but primarily action takes place on the station. http://www.skyharboraegis.com/ is their webpage and any further information can be seen there.
  12. That is just all kinds of wrong.
  13. I don't quite understand the universal love of the Akira class. It's a nice ship in it's video game incarnations. I'm not a big fan of the later ST: Encyclopedea artwork but in that style the Akira is the single most ugly ship in existance.
  14. It does all depend on the situation and who you're doing the log with. There are those whom I feel I know what their characters would think and do so I feel comfortable writing the whole thing and letting them edit. Those same people I'm usually comfortable letting them write the entire thing and I'll edit. Others I'll leave places blank for comments and adjust anything that's needed. The worst are with those who you've not known for long. Then it's usually best to do it in a chatroom or AIM. But it always seems hard to edit those into proper looking logs. They always have a "chatroom" look to them for some reason.
  15. Actually, I liked the Mirror Universe NX-01 as far as design. What's better than a menacing statship... a menacing starship with a cool paint job!
  16. I voted ST:TOS as my favorite. But best...they are two totally different stories so they aren't comparable. As for technology, that's a little hard to say. Star Trek weapons seem to have alot more kick but Star Wars hyperdrives can go anywhere in the Galaxy. ST shielding seems alot better that SW. SW capital ships are larger but ST are more manuverable. If the two universes went to war, early on SW would be winning with greater numbers and able to excape to anywhere in the galaxy to regroup and repair. Then ST engineers would come up with something and that would be it.
  17. I'll take campy TOS over gloomy DS9.
  18. Of the submitted entries, I like Kansas' best. Not that any were bad I was just waiting for something to get me rolling on the floor.... like seeing pig boy in the first place.
  19. Ensign Ramson stepped into Excalibur's main engineering, the place abuzz with activity. The urgency of the preparations was evident as each officer and crewman moved quickly and diligently about their jobs. Moving herself with all due speed she came up to Commander Xavier. "Sir," pausing for a moment for him to acknowledge her presence, "Here is a manifest of all fighter equipment and parts that have just been brought onboard." Still half giving orders to those around him Crispin took the PADD into hand. There seemed to be a slight frown on his face as he looked over the list. "Hmmm. If this is the best we can do for now, so be it. Let's go take a look where we should start to butcher my original designs." He said with a smirk. After a quick motion for Crewman DeSanto to take his place the Chief Engineer moved towards the nearest turbolift. Kallah followed closely behind. "I understand this isn't how you wanted to unveil your project." Xavier simply hummed a displeased sound, more polite than a grunt but with a similar tone as one. "Cargo bay one." He finally spoke to the turbolift. Waiting for the doors to close, "This should though prove the feasibility of the technology." She could tell that didn't comfort him much, She could tell that even if she wasn't a telepath. Commander Xavier remained motionless with his eyes fixed on the turbo lift doors. "I have worked long and hard on this project, every aspect of it. It was difficult enough coming to the realization I needed to bring in outside help." He glanced back at the Ensign. "To have it suddenly altered beyond my control is..." He let the sentence die there. He was too well trained of an officer to let personal emotions effect given orders, but the emotions were there. "Sir, have you ever heard of an ancient Earth vehicle called a JEEP?" Xavier blinked oddly at the Ensign. "Aah, yes." He thought back to his escape from Nazi Germany. He had killed an American soldier and had taken the Jeep and drove across Europe to hide in Spain. The memory was not pleasant as he had reformed from the murderous Juhdia, he was. Or had he? There was an odd emotion she suddenly felt from him, one she couldn't quite understand without a more inappropriate search of his mind. Shaking it off she continued. "It was developed by a small company during a desperate world wide war on Earth. It was exactly what the military needed. Unfortunately, the company that invented it was too small to make enough to meet demand. The whole design was given to another company to build. It ended up making a fortune for them and probably was pivotal in the final victory." "I think you just made me fell worse, Ensign." Smiling as sweetly as she could. "I understand. But they won the war. That little company with an idea won the war. Few people in the galaxy may have ever heard of the American Bantam company, but they changed the galaxy. And, at least one person... on the other side of that galaxy.... some 500 years later knows what they did. Isn't that enough?" With that the doors to the turbolift opened and Kallah Ramson stepped out and down towards the cargo bay. Crispin pondered for a few moments. He still wasn't happy. But... he knew what needed to be done. And he would do it, too
  20. With a quick mechanical whirl the workbee latched onto the last of the cargo containers. The deck crews hurried about their jobs checking and securing the cargo for transit. Ensign Ramson and crew chief Sakaki turned from their careful watching of the procedure. Behind them the cargo laden workbee lifted slowly from the deck and started towards the open spacedoors. "That's everything." Sakaki said as she stepped into an area of large crates that had become a makeshift office for the cargo bay turned flightdeck. With one hand she turned the desktop monitor around. "Here's a full manifest of all parts we're sending over to Excalibur." "Good, I'll deliver it personally to their Chief Engineering." Kallah held her PADD out infront of her and turned slightly so the other women could see it's ID number. With a quick keystroke on the desktop unit the information began to scroll onto the PADD. Watching it's content Kallah nodded as it completed the download. "That should do it." "We'll start sending over the customized parts as they're fabricated." "Let Camelot's crew focus on that. I need you to get the rest of the fighters up and running. Squad two needs to be up and out on patrols with squad one by tomorrow. Use a spare frame to make up for what we're sending to Excalibur and have squad three ready for action as quickly as possible." "Understood. I'm assuming we're going with wartime configurations." Kallah nodded, "I'm afraid so. It's quantity over quality for the moment." Ramson paused for a moment. "I need something else." There was a hesitation in her voice. "Ma'am?" "I need you to submit a list of all your crew that have flight clearance. As soon as a fighter is available, transfer them to flight crew." Sakaki paused for a moment. "Are we doing that badly?" "The pilots scheduled to arrive ...... haven't. Whether they ever made it into the quadrant is unknown. I've filled some spots from the fleet but they're running thin on personnel too. It looks like it's just use." The crew chief looked down, fidgeting with a random tool pulled from atop one of the crates. "I'm worried." "You're afraid." Sakaki lifted her head up with a look of momentary realization towards the telepath. "I'm just as scared. We all are, trust me." She smiled and tapped her temple lightly. "But we have what we need to make it through this. I trust you. I've seen you do more with less." "I'd just rather have more." Sakaki let a smile form on her otherwise troubled face. "You get me those fighters up and running and I'll get you you're more. I'll give you every ship in the Alpha quadrant if I have too. All I need are those fighters to keep this base safe until then." "I can do that, ma'am." Kallah Ramson smiled and nodded in return. She just hoped she could keep her side of the promise.
  21. The following is a summary of the upgraded Lancelot Fighters now assigned to the Camelot Starbase. This is not a complete overview of the entire craft. This information simply covers the upgraded portions of the fighter and it's key systems. . The basic spaceframe is the same as the original Lancelots with the addition of a detachable Warpdrive pod and some cosmetic differences The key to the control system is the combined Navigation/Tactical computer, sensors, and holographic HUD display. These work in tandem to give the pilot all the information available for all flight modes. In addition there are two engineering computers within the heart of the fighter which control the internal operations of the craft. These are accessible through shielded cover panels on the dorsal surface of the fighter. Subsystems include the navigational deflector arrey, subspace communications pod, and life support. The primary sublight propulsion system has three main parts. Fusion reactors provide energy which is directed into the plasma converters. The high energy plasma that is produced is used to power the subspace constriction chamber. Here a reversed warpfield is generated. Propellant is then pumped into the chamber and heated beyond it's vaporization level. Because of the warpfield however the substance remains in it's current form. At the exhaust point the propellant exits the warpfield. Now well beyond it's vaporization point the substance provides a sudden and extreme energy release used for forward propulsion. The magnetic vectored exhaust can be used to further constrict and direct the jet of released energy. The warpdrive is the latest development to come from the Voyager Reports. While not achieving true transwarp, it is capable of sustaining high warpspeeds for extended durations. It's exact performance statistics are currently restricted information. The shield system is of a standard design with the addition of some regenerative capabilities. An additional defense measure are the holographic decoy launchers. The decoys produce a fake warp signature as well as full EM spectrum facsimiles of the fighters. Because of the power needed to do this the decoys usually burn out within 10 second of launch. Lancelot Weapon systems. Two narrow arc forward firing burst phaser. Two wide arc forward firing standard phaser banks. Port and Starboard wing mounted internal micro photon torpedoe launchers. There are four hardpoints, two on each wing. These can be equipped with mission specific ordnances ranges from phaser banks, additional torpedoe launchers, full sized photon and quantum torpedoes, bombs, sensor platforms, and many other pieces of equipment.
  22. sometime after Kallah has finished up in the Stellar Cartography Lab with Captain Sorehl...... It was a lot to digest. The overall plan was disturbing and she had serious doubts about the chances of one ship capturing something as formidable as a Scorpiod starship. What advantage they would get from the nebula and the device Corizon spoke of Kallah didn't know. She felt more than a little luck would be needed. Then there was the matter of the fighter. Luckily, Lt. Commander Xavier had let her in on his ideas shortly after Excalibur had returned from battle. She had read up on every text and research paper concerning metaphasic fields since then. But still Crispin's ideas were well beyond anything postulated to date. But, she wasn't even sure the field dynamics would hold on his proposed space frame, let alone a stock Lancelot chassis. Ensign Ramson already knew at least half the weapon systems would need to be removed for space and power. And then there was her primary concern, the defense of the station and planet. She trusted Sorehl's plans. Kallah was starting to really understand the respect her father had for the Captain. She knew from her father's memories the Vulcan's abilities but there was never anything quite like witnessing it for one's self. Now if she could get the fighter wing ready. And that was truly where her concerns lay at. Her's was the only fighter shipped in tact from the Alpha quadrant. Squad one and two had been completely assembled but squad 3 was at half strength and none of them had been fully tested. And then there was the matter of pilots. Though maybe in a bygone era a fighter pilot was a glamorous profession but today the best of the best sought postings at the helm of the mighty Sovereign or Galaxy class starships. When the call had come up there just wasn't enough volunteers. And of those that did, over two thirds were just completing certification in the new models....back in Sector 001. She already had the crew manifests of every able bodied pilot in the fleet, searching for candidates. And, adding to the mix was the mystery of the Scorpiod themselves, of their servant races, of the Dominion's withdrawal, the recent battle, what battled lay ahead. Kallah's mind was swimming by the time she stepped into her quarters, boxes still laying about in her unfinished attempts at unpacking. Then the silver frame caught her eye. She lifted it out of the box, the cloth covering it falling aside. There in the frame was a picture of her family. It suddenly hit her. She was cut off from them. It was very possible she would never see them again. It was too much for the young women. She suddenly wished to be that child of eight resting against her mother's side back on Canar. Kallah longed for her father's smile. She wanted to be anywhere but here. But her she was.
  23. Currently I'm a fighter pilot. I enjoy exploring some of the unusual posts.
  24. Something else that might have happened, your original signature had an image of a TOS communicator, correct? If you linked to that image from another site and they updated the pic to incluse the banner for the other sim then, naturally you're signature would have the new picture.
  25. Here's one just to pass the time cause it made me laugh. In case it's not clear in the pic, it's a Tellerite in bad makeup wearing a pimp shirt standing beside...I'm not really sure.
