  1. In some of the books the Marines are mentioned.. they just forget in the series, although I think there was a reference or appearance by them in TOS.... but I could be wrong.
  2. You know Dac, I really shouldn't rag on how many shoes you have, or Pratt buys ya. I did buy Sammy what..... 20 or 30 pairs to go with those outfits I bought her. See??? I knew a girl needs to accessorize.. I bought her the whole dang outfit!! And what did it get me? A reputation for running around ships dressed in sheets, a reputation as a womanizing heart breaking playboy, and no wife. And my son is by my best friend who won't marry me, and I never bought her a pair of shoes!! Now I get it.. Pratts going about all the wrong way. Whoever buys the lady the most shoes.. loses....
  3. title wave? was that like spamming in the chat room?? I mean, I've heard of a TIDAL wave.........
  4. Ok, so our intrepid Captain found a copy of this outdated thing hiding in a cubby hole. And since there are so many here now who don't know of Ziggys many adventures... ok, accidents.. I thought I should update and send along. Also, for those of you unfamiliar with Ziggy and Dana's past, this will help with the upcoming sim plot. And now you new guys can see why I am Dac's personal test subject. ^^^^^^^^^^^Starfleet Personnel File^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Name: Ziggy StarDust DOB: May 27 Height: 6'5" Weight: 200 Eye: Green Hair: Blonde Distinguishing Marks: Scar above right eyebrow, mild to severe scarring on the left side of the face, scarring to left shoulder and down the left side of his back and chest. Scarring to lower back, scarring to left knee. Left eye is slightly discolored from ocular repairs. Parents: Commander Michael Keith StarDust, Agricultural Biologist and Geologist Commander Kathryn Rachel StarDust, Medicianal Botanist Siblings: Brother, David Bowie StarDust, graduated Starfleet Medical, working on Doctoral Thesis on Ramses VI Sister, Rachel Michelle StarDust, student Background: Ziggy grew up traveling from planet to planet with one or the other of his parents. His parents work with farmers on colonies to establish crops, as well as researching native plants. His father also studies the geology of planets in order to assist in better faming methods. Ziggys brother David is now working on his doctoral thesis in geological sciences on Ramses IV. His sister Rachel is still living with their parents, and has applied to Starfleet Academy. **************** General Data: Ziggy applied and was accepted to the academy at the age of 19. His parents travelling had precluded an earlier entrance. An exceptional student, he did have difficulties adjusting to life in the Academy. Used to assisting his parents on sparsely populated worlds, or on starships, his *assistance* in class was not always welcome. His older age and experience also made it dificult for him to fit in with his peers. Because of his parents work in the sciences, Ziggy excelled in zenobiology, hydroponics, and zenobotany and was tapped to be a science officer. Ziggy had no desire to follow in his parents footsteps, and worked very hard to excell in other areas such as defense and tactics, as well as piloting and flying fighters. Because of the great distance he was from the Academy at the time of his acceptance to attend, he was a semester behind his class, and graduated later. He graduated with honors, and was given his choice of assignemnts. Although there were openings for helmsman and security on other billets, Ziggy took a posting on the Arcadia as a science officer. ************* History on the USS Arcadia - (since someone doesn't keep track of dates) Ziggy was posted to Arcadia as an assistant science officer. He worked in this department for several months, before putting in a transfer to helm. As helm officer, Ziggy showed his profeciency, and was promoted to Chief, Lieutenant Junior Grade, and Lieutenant. After serving the Arcadia as its helm officer for a year, he was transferred to security, where he was promoted to First Lt. During this time, the Arcadia was on a training mission where Ziggy was injured and severely scarred. A small, obolete, broken down ship was set to engage in training against the Arcadia. A group of officers, including the Arcadias XO, Commander Bree Sullivan, Dana Quest, and Ziggy, were chosen to repair and use the smaller ship. During the battle they were surprised by some private enemies in cloaked ships, and the small ship was severely damaged. (It was winning at the time!) Ziggy's console exploded, and a he was flung into it. As it melted, his face was burned into the console. In order to rescue him, Dana had to forcibly remove him from the melted console, leaving half his face behind. During the healing process, it was discovered that Ziggy was allergic to the derma patches and his face was left horribly scarred on one side. Later surgeries repaired the damage to some degree, but his face will always be scarred. During his time in security, Ziggy became frustrated with his position, and after many talks with Ltjg Marty Umberti, a former enlisted Marine, Ziggy put in for a transfer to the Starfleet Marine Corps. Over the objection of Captain Moose, he was accepted and left the Arcadia. Ltjg Umberti and Ziggy left the Arcadia in a shuttle, bound for the Marine Academy, but were lost and presumed dead. The USS Raptor found pieces of the shuttle in a remote area on their flight path. Six months later, Ziggy was found in a small pod, floating in an area of space near to the debris field. He was returned to Starfleet Command, where he was rehabilitated. Ziggy stated that he had been captured by pirates, the leader of which was the daughter of Thomas Riker. Using Ziggy, they had freed Thomas Riker from a prison. Ziggy reported that Marty had been killed by the pirates to gain Ziggys cooperation, but that Ziggy was sure Commander Kelutrana Quest, along with other members of the USS Falcon, were in the same prison. Starfleet Command determined that his information was inconclusive, and he was ordered not to act on any information by attempting a rescue, or mention this information to Captain Moose. (Moose's prior history with Kelutrana Quest was believed would make him likely to attempt to a rescue.) Because of the events that had happened, Ziggy's application to the Marines was denied and he was reinstated to Starfleet. He was returned to the USS Arcadia as a security officer, where he was later promoted to Lt Commander Shortly after his return, Captain Moose was appointed Ambassador, and left the Arcadia. During a mission that took them to DS9, Ziggy and Dana had a drunken rendevoux, and Dana concieved their child. Although Ziggy asked Dana to marry him, because of his past romantic dalliances, and her past history with Marty, she did not accept. Ziggy proposed again after Michael was born, but was turned down. During a later mission, Ziggy was sliced by a sword, and paralyzed from the waist down. After stasis repairs, he was sent to Starfleet Medical HQ for rehabilitation and reconstruction. Around this time Ziggy began to remember more about his time with the pirates, and came to believe that Marty was not dead, but had been placed in the prison with Kelly. Unsure how this information would affect Dana, he did not tell her, but waited for the right opportunity. When the other Captain Moose became captain of the Arcadia, Ziggy began wondering if because he was not the same Moose, he could tell him about Kelly. However, since he wasn't sure about this Moose's attachment, he kept the information to himself. After the new Moose came on board, it was decided to change the Arcadias security compliment to a Marine contingent. Dana, Ziggy, and the other security officers were transferred and given equivelent ranks, making Ziggy a major. ******************************** Off the record info: Just for the crews edification: Ziggys mother did her graduate dissertation on the medicianal uses of certain plants used by the Terran Lakota Soiux. (This enabled her to use them on other planets.) Ziggy spent four years as a child living with his mother in a Lakota village. One of his playmates was Dana Quest, who gave him the scar on his eyebrow. Dana's Aunt Kelly was like a hero to Dana and Ziggy growing up, and Ziggy and Kelly were very close. Ziggy did his best to watch over Dana growing up. Throughout his childhood he returned several times to live with Dana's family, or his fathers family in Texas. Although he is older than Dana, because of his later start in the Academy, she graduated ahead of him. Her posting to the Arcadia was the reason Ziggy chose to his posting there. Ziggy had been engaged twice. He and Samantha Riker (daughter of Will Riker, and former medical officer on the Arcadia) have had a torrid affair, including two engagements and three breakups. During one of the breakups/makeups.. Ziggy proceeded to leave sickbay in nothing but a SHEET!! (Not a Hawaiian towel Dac!) Their romance was cause for much snickering and bets among the crew, as well as creating a great deal of friction between Captain Moose (the first) and Ziggy.
  5. Ziggy floated in the strange place, watching memories zoom past him and around him like holovids. Some he remembered, others he had to concentrate on. He could see himself, but he didn't remember the scenes he saw flashing by. He wanted to stop them, look closer, but he was distracted by the sudden appearance of a lightening bolt floating in front of him. Then the bolt was not in front of him, but inside him. It was the strangest sensation. He knew that he was still Ziggy, but he was suddenly not Ziggy. His conciousness was pushed to the side, something else was controlling his physical actions. As his body walked down the hall he could tell the entity was searching him.. his body, his memories, his personality. The scarring on his face from having it ripped off a melting console that Starfleet Medical could never repair, the scars along his shoulder and back from plasma burns, his sugically repaired knee and back. Old wounds were knitted and healed, he knew they would never hurt again. Yet when it got to his face, the entity stopped at merely smoothing out the rough edges. Somehow it knew that Ziggy had learned to live with his mangled face, and would not be who he was if his face was healed. They.. Ziggy was no longer himself, but twinned with the entity.. came around a corner and found LoAmi. Ziggy heard his voice speaking to Lo'AMi, but it was if it were a long way off. As they continued to move down hallways and through the ship, Ziggy could feel the entity continuing to search through him. Then they were in engineering, and he knew what was wrong. But the entity inside him couldn't find the right words to tell Lo'Ami what was wrong, and with no control over his body or voice, Ziggy couldn't either. After a fashion, the entity knew Ziggy was trying to help as well, and gave him some control back over his body. As he and Lo'Ami worked to repair the ship, Ziggy found memories long repressed and forgotten suddenly as strong as if they had just happened. He continued to help the entity inside with the job at hand, but was overcome with the emotions brought up at the memories. Ziggy never noticed them phase in and out with the Arcadia, he was too distracted. As he felt the entity leave him, there was a message in his head.. "Go find them, and bring them home." Suddenly he was standing in the Arcadias engineering section, dazed and confused, and he knew it wasn't from the knock on his head, that was all healed. The towel with the loud print was now a soft blue, and faintly glowing. He heard Lo'Ami speaking, then saw him using a console. It was all so confusing. "Sensors are online. There is a starfield, one ship, and one planet...." Ziggy knew were they where, and why. The Vogarts, using his mind, had sent him to take care of unfinished business. As Lo'Ami approached, Ziggy looked at him. "Kelly..." And then he slipped to the floor, out cold.
  6. In a non-STSF sim I was in, we did develop a full ranking system for non-coms. We based it on the modern ranking system. There was a thing on a ST website at one time where the question was asked about O'Brien and the ST production people who are in the know stated that the Chief rank is both a rank and a title, but when they created the character they really hadn't planned on it being a reoccuring character so they had to modify things as O'Brien became a regular character There was also Kirks yeoman in TOS. Yeoman is not a rank, but a title, but crewman was supposedly a rank. Go figure. For the Marines on the Arc (the NPC's) we have given them ranks equivelent to modern marine ranks, right down to the enlisted. We even had a regular SF officer (NPC) in security who was a former enlisted SF Marine.
  7. Dac once had a slave organize her shoe closet. I think it took three weeks. I feel sorry for those guys.. they'll be covered in polish and need medical attention for the blisters on their fingers. You would think Dac would own a power buffer.. one that holds like 10 pairs of shoes. And for you guys polishing.. I think I bought two or three pairs of those shoes, so be careful!!! Whats amazing is that there is space on the Arcadia for all the shoes, and that it can still manage to fly. No wonder we are always having to fix the ID system!!
  8. Life could be entirely too confusing sometimes. Ziggy wasn't sure if he had had a knock on the noggin, was caught in the strangest dream he had ever had, or had eaten something hallucinogenic. All were quite likely, and there were times when he didn't feel like there was a ton of cotton stuffing in his head, and then he wondered why he had felt so confused. It just made things more confusing. Did that make sense? Ziggy shook his head. There were times he remembered something about being in a void and needing to take a shuttle to investigate. And then he could swear he was on the mission to the Diplomatic Planet, in disguise, with Jeremy and Dana. But for some reason Jeremy wasn't a Vulcan anymore, and Dana wasn't there at all, and he was eating some green pudding stuff with a strange woman. And then the woman was gone, and they were on a hillside, and he was dressed only in a towel. A rather gaudily printed towel at that. Thank goodness it was a large towel, and was firmly wrapped around his waist. Before he could accurately figure out what was going on, he remembered that they were trying to find the Arcadia. And he knew where they were. Grabbing the person with him, a Trill in uniform, he pointed. "They're that way!" And then Ziggy began to jog over the hill. Before he knew it he was with Moose, and Dana, and Dac.. who was blushing.. "Think of home," Moose was saying. The first thing that came to mind was the last home he had shared with his parents. It was a water planet with very little land. His mother had been working on a desalinization hydroponics to grow standard crops, while his father studied the geology of the planet. The colonists had adopted a seafaring existence, building small fishing craft, to large schooners for travelling amongst the small archipelegos that made up the planets land mass. He was on a ship, wearing only short pants, sunning himself while he waited to pull in nets on the days catch. "... the bridge..." Oh.. the Arcadia. At mention of the bridge Ziggy scrolled past his posts, but his real thoughts were on where he had spent most of his time.. the holodeck. Not that he was an escape junkie, but he spent many hours there training, both himself and his security teams. Not to mention doing routine weapons readiness trainng on all crew members. And many hours in the holodeck had been spent designing and testing tactical menuevers for the helm when he had been the Arcadias pilot. Yet where he was now was not the holodeck. It was a strange black void, where he seemed to float. Above him he saw flickers of memory, as if someone were playing his thoughts on a screen. It was very confusing, and rather unsettling. Was he still dreaming? Did he have a knot on his head? And why was he in a towel? Oh.. for a bottle of tequila......
  9. Wow Moose!! I had forgotten what a colorful character you are!!!
  10. ROFL Boost!!! More like was trying to impress the parents with my date.. and after 5 phone calls to the missing date, we finally had to go to the resteraunt as the reservations could only be pushed back so far. And no one ran off to Morrocco...
  11. Why couldn't Dac have thought of me in clothes? Or instead of a Hawaiian print towel, why couldn't she have remembered me in the actual real white sheet?????????? I'm with Dac.. next time we gotta think ourselves someplace, lets make it Risa!!!
  12. Happy Birthday Marsovac! I got stood up on my sweet 16.. so I don't remember it fondly.
  13. Why do I have the feeling that Lo'Ami and I are going to be left behind like Flora and Fauna??? And on a planet where they have names like Wiper of Bottoms and Lover of Goats. Can I be Lover of Horses? Or would that be Lover of Tequila? Wait! I bet they don't have tequila!!! I'm doomed!!!!!!!!!
  14. I am watching the news, waiting to hear that New Orleans exploded from a frenzy of Mardi Gras celebrations. At least somewhere in this country people are drinking, having a great time, and not wasting time talking about whether or not we should go to war. The smart ones are drinking tequila!!!!
  15. Interesting discussion. First Contact had numerous contradictions, from # of decks all the way to the money issue. I mean, you have gold plated latinum mentioned throughout the series, yet they don't have money? The point about gambling in Quarks, not to mention that Quark charged for holodeck time. IE:Money. And Garak didn't give his clothes away. There were TNG episodes where money was mentioned. And if they bartered on Voyager, then they obivously had an idea of monetary value. Yeah, I am sure they are trying to point out that the Federation is a utopian society, free of greed, but I don;t think so. WE can't do it.. I don't see how that will change in a few hundred years, as much as we might like it to.
  16. Hey now!! *I* didn't kill Tulip off!!!!
  17. Yes it does!!! But I am only your favorite cause I am the only one who spends more time in sickbay than on duty!! :)
  18. Moose!! What wonderful suggestions!!! And a captive audience to boot!! ::staying tuned for round 2::::
  19. They all had good points. TOS, as has been pointed out, did a lot with an amazingly small budget and very little faith from the powers that be. I liked the idea in TOS that not all the aliens were humanoid. And while the acting is a bit on the well.. bad side, over all it has an awesome presence all its own. TNG.. What can one say? They brought sci fi to the masses, and turned people who had no clue into Trekkies. Yeah, there were some very formulaic plots, and there were times the characters were more annoying than real, but it grows on you!! I missed a lot of episodes when it originally aired (imagine having to work!!) and so I am catching them now. Even the ones I have seen before I see in new ways each time, and sometimes it just surprises me what the real message was, or how I missed an amazing plot line. DS9-I refused to watch this series when it originally aired cause I was so upset that they were going to take TNG off the air for it. I started watching in season 3, and then later caught up on season 1. I still am missing lots of episodes, but I catch them when I can. I also missed the last season because we had no UPN. I think DS9 had lots more depth than TNG. They really plumbed some awesome storylines with this series. Yeah, there were plotlines that were solely to try and keep people interested since they didn't have planets to visit and the like. But we got to see lots of new things on the show, and the more I see of it, the more I like. I'll have to check and see if the local video store is carrying it on DVD.... Voyager -- I probably shouldn't comment. I only saw the first season in its entirety. The rest of the series I caught here and there, but I have never watched the final episode since I think it would spoil things for me. I am waiting for it to start airing again locally or on TNN to see the whole thing, then I'll make an opinion. What I have seen I liked, including the episode where they went back to 20th century Earth. Enterprise-- Well, I was so excited to see a new series. ANd I was so disappointed to see Scott Bakula as the Captain. He still can't act. I haven;t seen all the episodes but most of them, and I like the ideas. I have to say they are really pushing the envelope. It's like since they decided to go back before TOS they have to do something to catch our attention and make the special effects budget worthwhile so they are doing all this help from the future stuff. I don't like it. I have really liked the ones where they meet up with races we know little about for the first time. That's been really interesting. I am not sure I like this Sulabon storyline, the continuing bad guys, but I'll keep watching and see how it shapes up. Can't comment on the comic series, never got a chance to see it.
  20. I'm tuning in to watch Picard ghost!!! At least the ghosts aren't spamming the room. I kinda like em.. makes the place a little bit homey, like we have a friendly watcher or something. :)
  21. Gosh.. how to sum up Ziggy?? The Tequila Master? Dacotahs personal test subject? A Marine with a Death wish? ... Wait, thats redundant. Horseback Ridin' Tequila Swilling Marine Yeah!! Thats it!!
  22. Where Are We Going? Major Ziggy StarDust USS Arcadia Marine Detachment As he slid down the chute towards the Captains yacht, Ziggy felt like he was sliding through time.......falling ............falling.................falling. The landing pad was dark except for two dull motion lights that winked on as he hit the floor. With minimal power on board, the landing pad hadn't been kept lit, and he hadn't thought to have it turned on. He hoped the power umbilical to the yacht had a manual release. Just as he was thinking this he was slammed from behind by the science officers, and went sprawling across the deck, his 6'5" frame providing a good landing pad for them. Ziggy slid into the side of the yacht and felt his head connect with a resounding thud. In the quiet, powerless room the thud rang across the walls. "Um, sorry." Kawalas looked sheepish and quickly dusted herself off. Lo'Ami glared at her in that Vulcan haughty manner, then moved moved around the yacht, looking for the door. Rubbing his head, Ziggy pushed himself to his feet, trying to make the room quit spinning. Using the wall to balance himself, he worked his way to the umbilicals and manually disengaged them, then switched the releases to ship control. Turning around, he used the wall to move back around to the access port, trying to determine which yacht was the real yacht. "C'mon Zigs.. get it together, " he mumbled softly to himself as he reached the port. Letting go of the wall, he more fell in, than stepped. Lo'Ami had already arranged himself in the co-pilots seat and was powering the shuttle up. Kawalas was moving around, inspecting the ship. "Not bad," she smiled approvingly. Ziggy stumbled to the pilots seat, trying to walk more or less steadily wasn't working. "You ok Major?" Kawalas asked. "Um, yeah." Why was she calling him major? He was an Ensign! Or was that their cover story? He couldn't remember the details, but he thought they were masquerading as students, but then, he didn't remember the briefing all that well. "Power online, preparing to release umbilicals." "Sir, you did that already." Lo'Ami looked at him strangely. "Oh yeah. Ain't she a great little ship? I picked her up for next to nothing, but boy can she move!!" He grinned like a schoolboy. Turning back to the control panel, he tried to figure out the displays. It was strange, but he wa a pilot! He could figure this out. Carefully he disengaged the clamps, and then felt the ship drop away from the Arcadia. "Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!" "Careful, Major, we're flying blind." Lo'Ami had pulled up the full sensor array and was preparing to use it. "Please make sure your seatbacks and tray tables are in the upright and locked position. Arrival time at the Diplomatic Research Center will be in 26 hours." Ziggy grinned back at Kawalas. "Hey Dana, theres tequlia and cards in my bag. Once I get us on autopilot, we gotta teach this Vulcan here how to play!" Kawalas stared back at him. "What?" "I think this puppy will do warp 4.. but maybe I should just go for 3. You got those coordinates Jeremy?" Ziggy looked at LoAmi. Lo'Ami stared back, suddenly realizing they had a problem. Their pilot was out of his mind, and they were flying blind, possibly inside a Dysons Sphere. Somehow, this was not what he had had in mind...... ???
