  1. Before the last Reaent sim we were making quite a bit of fun of the Croc Hunter. Well, atleast I was. Now, I just read that he has died of a sting ray barb to the chest. I always questioned his style (and sanity) but he did have a passion for his work. His luck finally gave out.
  2. Did some more research. While I've never been able to get into them a forum or email based sim would give the freedom from bad scheduled timeslots. I don't see this as an answer to the Euro-Sim question but it would give an option rather than waking up at 3am. Just a brief aside and not a discussion to distract us from the current subject.
  3. I don't believe you can look at the guest counter on any given day and make a judgement from that. A time may be good for folks but they don't all check in on the same day. And as others have said since they know there's not alot of activity at those times they don't usually check the boards then. As for the hybrid sim, I've never heard of it tried so I can't say how well it would work. As long as the GMs kept up with things I can see it working. Fred brings up something about us being linked to StarTrek.com. Has anyone tried to find us through there lately? I did a few days ago and found nothing. It might be something you wander onto easier that activing seaching for... or I just don't know where to look. I have also looked for sims currently running based in Europe. Again, I found nothing. So, I think there's some value to the idea that they just don't know about us or simming in general (unless they call it something else).
  4. Introducing the new place kicker for the Cleveland Browns....
  5. I did put out a poll. There were 8 results in a range from 9 to 12 in the London evening most saying the weekend was best. What I think would work would be 6pm central time, 12am London, 8am Tokyo Saturday. That was the specific time with the most votes (tied with another 3 votes for a general evening in Europe). This touchest reasonable times for most areas. While some may be thinking of this as opening a door for a few already in our group.... I think of it as opening a door for all those outside. The big catch is the GM issue. I've simmed since 1994 and hosted sims before but I've only been back here for a couple of months. So while I'm happy to spur this on and help build the sim it will be awhile before I fit the "official" qualifications for GM.
  6. It all comes down to what you like. If they add a space shot of the Gorn ship in "Arena" then I'll like that but if they replace the Gorn captain with a CGI critter then I will be upset. It's the same argument as when colorization of old black and white films became popular. I'm not against re-editing things as long as the original is still easily availible and respected. But people will always prefer for the most part what they grew up with. Case in point, Tom Baker will always be THE Doctor to me while this current generation will claim that of...whoever it is doing the part right now. The fear is that if this generation grows up with the enhanced Star Trek then it will be hard to get them to watch and respect the "original" Original series.
  7. A9, how would you suggest we go about this? I'm hearing what we can't do but not what we can.
  8. A couple of things to think about: We would need the existing STSF Euro members to drag in their friends. While their friends may not have been insain enough to get up a 3am to sim... maybe they'd go for a more reasonable time. Something that made Aegis so great early on was Sorehl. Beyond being the best simmer I've ever had the pleasure to serve under... he brought in atleast 4 or 5 people he RP'd with in RL. If the 2 or 3 current members brought in just one person we'd have enough to make a go at it. Which, brings me to point 2. We may be spoiled with the size of most of the sims. It doesn't take 15 or more people to have a workable sim. A Romulan sim I've been apart of for over 10 years has always had an active crew of 6 to 8 players. I've seen STSF sims cancel for the night due to low turnout with that same number. While we need as many as possible to start with, if a reliable "core" group can be maintained then the sim can survive. I think it would be a good idea if someone from recruiting contacted some ST fan groups based in Europe and made ourselves known to them. This wouldn't be a bad idea for the Americas as well. I may post a poll later on asking how many friends you think you could enlist. I'll also ask later on if you're part of or know of any ST groups that could help spread the word.
  9. Normal rules aren't going to work as well for getting an idea like this off the ground. While an academy would be needed eventually I think the first sim in this venture would need to be something inbetween an academy and advanced sim. A "training vessel" with a small set crew and open to visiting "cadets". So, the regular cast would be considered in "command training" to be department heads and the rest are regular cadets. As the sim grew it could lose it's "training vessel" status and pass cadet training to a normal scheduled academy. Or, we could look around to see what existing sims at these times exists and see if they'd like to join up with us. I have no idea what STSF's policy for admitting pre-existing sims is. I'm not one who thinks "pre-preplanning meetings to plan the planning session's plan for planning the planner's parking spots" is in anyway helpful. So yes it may seem like I'm jumping headlong into this idea. I know things like this Don't pop up overnight. This is just the way I aproach things.
  10. I think a sim set at a time for those not in the Americas is totally possible. Here's where we find out, by the numbers. There are ALOT more options in the WHEN category but I've listed what I thought were some good and varied possibilities. The what is also open to alot for discussion. The where can be catchy. If no GM can host this I still see no problem with us gathering and doing it ourselves. We would just need the GMs to let us "talk" about it openly and perhaps meet in the STSF chatroom lobby or something. How hard would it be to add a chatroom titled "Non-Sanctioned Events"? We would REALLY need the GMs to be lenient and not let legalism kill this project before it could even start. Assuming we'd have enough interest to make a project out of it. Okay, with the WHERE question, sorry...didn't know you couldn't leave a question blank. Please choose "NOT A GM" to finish the pole. GMs, either just post you answer to WHERE so as not to mess up the numbers for the other questions with random answers or post what your answers were so we can modify the numbers. But, of course answer the above if you answered "willing to host".
  11. The original Aegis, in my opinion, was not as dark as DS9. While we followed the events on DS9 and had more direct interaction with the Maquies than they did, most of us retained the higher values of Star Trek. The current Aegis is.... it's own thing. Here's a link to the "Aegis Chronicles" which cover about the first 4 or 5 years of the Aegis sim, before it became "Sky Harbor". Aegis History part 1 Aegis History Part 2
  12. It wasn't a job he liked, questioning fellow officers. But there was a reason they'd asked him to do this; his old ties to the name Aegis, his years in security, his current responsibilities as chief of tactical operations in the nearby Canar sector, his empathic and telepathic abilities, and his experience dealing with civilian and Starfleet interactions. D'Mysus looked at Commander Muon and proceeded with his job. "Who gave the order to hold the Gorn ship?" Muon hesitated before answering. "Commander Hawke." She replied tightly. "And where was Hawke when she gave the order?" A frown crossed Muon's lips. "She was in sickbay with Captain Ayers. It was right after he had been attacked by the Rixian." Continuing quickly along, "Where were you?" "I was searching the Captain's quarters with JoNs and then I went down to sickbay to ensure the Rixian was secure, see how the Captain and Ethan was doing, and to question Ethan about the attack. The Captain was unconcious at the time." "Who gave the order to beam the Gorn crew off their ship?" Tightly and with another hesitation, "Hawke." "Did Ambassador Joy, DURING the events, inform anyone of the diplomatic and legal consequences of these actions?" Muon raises an eyebrow as if a new thought had occurred to her: "No. I don't believe so. As a matter of fact, after the incident I had to kick that Mudd Ambassador off the CT. She was snooping around, looking for information." "I will be wanting to ask her some questions as well." Commander Ramson relaxed back in his chair. "Too much happened too quickly and I think some judgements were come to just as quickly." D'Mysus stood. "I thank you for your information, I won't tell Drankum you didn't charge me for it." With a wink he turned back towards the door. Muon let out a snort. "Don't try to get on my good side Commander." Stopping just before the doorway the Commander turned his head. "One last question, How much warning did the Admiral and Captain give of the incoming presence of so many diplomats? Was ANY diplomatic training or refresher courses even offered?" Muon sighed tiredly. "We hardly had anytime to prepare and no, no refresher training or courses. You have to understand that Aegis has recently become more of a diplomatic hub rather than a military presense. We all, meaning the command staff, should have remembered to have diplomatic training and some refresher courses." "I see." Ramson turned and looked down in thought. Without saying anything else D'Mysus continued out the door.
  13. On Starbase 405 Commander Ramson stood by the operations station in the command center. As the aft turbo lift doors opened he knew before turning around it was his wife. He smiled at Sara as she stepped down towards him. "I'm beaming down to the ranch." "Okay. My shift is up in a little bit." Giving him a kiss, "See you at home. Um, have you heard from Kallah lately?" "No. She's probably busy. You know how she gets wrapped up in things." Saraina's face took on a worried thoughtful look. "I guess." "Don't worry. I have a holo-conference with her Thursday about the latest test flights. I'll remind her to call home." ..................... The screen was blank except for the one blinking line of text, "Unable to connect." Commander Ramson glanced at the engineer he'd drug in to make sure nothing was broken. The man shook his head with a shrug. D'Mysus turned back towards the blank screen. "Unable to connect" blinked on with ominous urgency. ..................... "Computer, engage security seal." The viewport glass shaded to completely black, lights dimmed, and a faint hum resonated from the door as the office went into lockdown. Ramson turned around to the large status monitor behind his desk. He inserted a quick series of commands into the comm panel. After a few moments Commodore Ellis appeared on the screen. "Damn you telepaths, I was just about to contact you." "Would it have anything to do with the Gamma Quadrant." He peered at the Minaran for a few moments. "How much do you know?" "That my daughter missed a holo-meeting which she never does. That I can't make contact with anything past DS9. That I'm watching right now starships passing through the edge of this sector all enroute towards Bajor." "Then let me fill you in on the rest." ..................... Commander Ramson exited the office after a brief meeting with the Captain and moved quickly to the OPS station. "How many Epoch class destroyers have we in dock?" The Ops manager looked up, "Four. Anno Domini, Deluge, Gregorian, and Meiji." "How many can get underway right now?" Briefly puzzled, "Um, the Deluge just docked less than an hour ago. Anno Domini hasn't entered drydock yet but it doesn't have a crew. Gregorian and Meiji are in the middle of their refits." "Recall the Deluge's crew and man the Anno Domini with station personnel, I'll take command of her." Glancing over to the Tactical station's status board. "Have Blue Squad scramble, we leave in 20 minutes!" "Leaving to where?" "Bajor." "Oh hell, what now...."
  14. Aegis' was great. It was a small compact foreign made vehicle called a VW (Vicious Wind). So, it sounded like we were touring the galaxy in a VolksWagon Bug! Thinking about it, we should have named the second support craft the USS Pinto. Oh well.
  15. I've played every post, including communications officer, marine K-9 specilist, and resident stow-a-way. I've been head of each department, Second officer, XO, and CO. My most fond memories are of simming on Aegis and being given command of one of the support ships. Commanding a Bird of Prey on the edge of a time eating vortex of doom... no other rush like it! And, in that situation I got to command but didn't have to host. That's why I loved being Second Officer.
