  1. Hey there simmers, My names J, and this is my first time here at STSF. I plan on hitting up a few academies soon and getting right into the thick of it, but I feel a wee bit lost. I'm not really an experienced chatter as far as Irc/Java goes, but I have done online role play before, in a completely different universe (Final Fantasy) many years ago. For starters, is the name you play as in the chat room (eg Holodeck) always the same as your Message board account name? What I mean is, should I create a new account that says Cdt_Craven or can I change my screen name to that in the chatrooms? thats pretty much the big question I had, I'm sure the rest of my questions can be answered in the Academy. Looking forward to serving with you. -J....or I guess as I will be called: -Jack Craven.
  2. You're half right. The romulans use an "Artificial" quantum singularity in their warp drive. Actual quantum singularities vary in size from the very large to the very small.
  3. ;) Only the french my logic-driven friend
  4. Well im not sure precisely which instance you're talking about or the "they" you are referring to, but I CAN tell you that quantum singularities are, by nature, bodies of infinite curviture that is to say their density is infinite, which is what gives them gravitic pull, usually largely restricted to its event horizon. (BTW, just in case some of you are unaware, in the time of Star Trek, Quantum Singularities are the official names of what we refer to as Black Holes)
  5. Well we Canadians spell Colour with a U too! Seems everyone else just needs to catch up! ;)
  6. Thank you everyone for your immense help on my first two sims this evening (Tues) in the 2 Academy sims. I Think I'll truly enjoy myself here, and I look forward to getting to know you all. Specifically Seiban, Jami and Eagle, thanks a lot for the help and support!
  7. Lets all keep in mind that the ideas of timeline changes in the present caused by visitation, in layman's terms "the butterfly effect" is all purely theoretical. The idea of a temporal wake isn't all too far fetched if you look at it from the idea from that perspective ;)
  8. Hmm I disagree. TNG's first 4 seasons did indeed follow a re-run friendly isolated storyline, But they also did something at the end of season 4 that paved the way for DS9, VOY and ENT to create reoccurring plotlines. That thing has 5 words: "The Best of Both Worlds" For those of you who don't know, this two part episode (Wolf 359/Locutus) laid the foundation for the rest of the series, It allowed further character development, and allowed the writing staff to freely make reference to past episodes: A prime example of this took place in TNG "Lessons" when Picard spent a good 10 minutes making reference to his flute, which he got from The Kataan Probe in TNG "The Inner Light" when talking to LtCdr Daren. Anyway its reasons like this (plus the fact that TNG was my first trek, introduced to me by my father) that I vote for TNG....plus the physics in it are pretty dope, and make a lot of sense to the geek that I am. (I was once a physics major, before switching to criminology/psychology).
