  1. I remember that movie. I think it was called "A Woman Falls Down a Flight of Stairs and Catches a Pipe of Running Water in the Back of her Skull."
  2. I love being on conference calls with colleagues back east in the winter. Inevitably someone will talk about how crappy the weather is where they are and then I will chime in with "Well, it is 80 degrees and sunny out here." at which point someone says "Oh, you can shut up now."
  3. Back in my college dorm days I was eating lunch in the cafeteria with a friend of mine from China. They had a "Chinese Food" lane that day, and it looked better than the other options available, so that's where I went. Halfway through lunch I told my friend that the Chinese food there really sucked. She said "Yeah, they need to hire some Mexicans here. They make good Chinese food."
  4. I got a free carne asada quesadilla from a taco truck today. I ordered it, they made it, I gave them the money and they said don't worry about it.
  5. I guess California's earthquakes gradually move the San Francisco shipyards to Iowa. (By the way, I live about 50 miles from SF. SF has lots of piers, but most of the major ship construction sites are in the East Bay shores closer to Oakland.)
  6. Got a little Captain in you?
  7. Look at me I'm White and Nerdy...
  8. 3 days, that's it? Boy, let me tell you about NTC or Team Spirit some time.
  9. We don't know what stage of the filtration cycle they were at where Scotty materialized.
  10. Hopefully the next movie will have one then. Come on, admit it, some of those were stinkers.
  11. One of my frat brothers had grey hairs at 20. (He was Asian as well so every gray hair stood out.) You would prefer an old chalk board? There aren't too many snipers in space. How many cars without drivers tend to go in a straight line? Not too many. The Kelvin was still so far away that simply setting the engines on maximum would still not guarantee an impact. Kirk Sr. needed to hit the Narada at its most vulnerable spot (as best as he could ascertain anyway). It was a very advanced mining ship. Remember, it came from about a generation after Voyager in what was probably the early 25th century and was now in the 23rd. It was a civilian ship, but I could take the civilian version of modern weaponry to the 18th or early 19th century and kick butt with it. For all we know it might be common Romulan practice to arm their civilian ships the same as military ships. Whatever needs cooling. The impulse drive is a good possibility. We know it burns gas / plasma and gives off an exhaughst from The Undiscovered Country the way an internal combustion engine does, and internal combustion engines are water-cooled. For all we know, however, the water might have been the thing being cooled.
  12. They put air fresheners in public bathrooms now?
  13. We would be better calling it "Highlander 2 - There Should Have Been Only 1" I liked the 3rd one, the TV series, even Endgame which almost everyone else hated, but that 2nd one was just out of place.
  14. Here we see an office pogue in his natural habitat. (For those who don't know, a "pogue" is a soldier who does a job that could easily be done by a civilian. This includes many aspects of supply and logistics, mechanics, finance, cooks, etc.)
  15. There was one sim where I played a character, the ghost of that character when he died, and a blob of goo that oosed out from the first dead character. If I recall, the blob of goo ended up saving the AT.
  16. I think Pike's comments were to suggest it is *possible* to get a command in 8 years if the conditions were right, not that it would happen every time. I also think he meant to imply it was 8 years after graduation. He also might not have been thinking exclusively of capital ships. There are plenty of transports and freighters out there that wouldn't necessarily need a Captain by rank to command.
  17. Hey, if you were harassing me on the toilet I wouldn't want to shake hands either. And I really hope for your sake you meant IN the toilet, not ON it.
  18. Possible, but remember that Beverly Picard wore a red command uniform when she commanded that medical ship in All Good Things... She was rated as a command officer but I'm pretty sure that even in the early 23rd century Starfleet wouldn't put someone not rated for command in a command position unless they had no choice. It is also possible that in the Kelvin's time they were in a "strange uniform period" like in The Motion Picture. As for the time span of their mission, even if it was a scientific mission that still doesn't address how long that mission was scheduled for.
  19. It is hard to compare starship size without comparing it to something of known size, like a starship we are already familiar with. And we really don't know what mission the Kelvin was on before Nero appeared.
  20. I was wondering why green trutlenecks were so popular with simmers.
  21. I have no problem whatsoever with naming names: brinklerg nurguzik
  22. How can you tell if Ms. Kent is lovely? She's got no face! Even if the GMs don't mind it, it would be hard to explain how someone who is anti-Federation and anti-space exploration would end up serving voluntarily in Starfleet.
  23. Why is balance important in a zero-gravity environment? Being symetrical isn't that important in the space traveling function. Look at the Breen ships or the Millenium Falcon. They do all right without "balance".
  24. I always thought the single nacelle idea was just dumb. You can generate a warp field with just one, but what if something happens to it? You have no backup. Plus it just looks weird.
