  1. On The Horns Of A Dilemma Personal log: Eagle,James,T., U.S.S. Arcadia NCC-1742-E The situation has become most perplexing at best as our time before the suns here at Aether are destroyed. The simulations on a proposed solution to possibly destroy the holo imaged Sam Kent have rendered that are not promising. The idea to route the energy from the induction station through the Arcadia and amplifying the energy and passing it to that abomination appears to be inadequate even with the main engines being tied in. The theory is sound were we availed additional resources in which to build up a massive power surge that would in essence overload her ability to receive and process the power and therefore shorting her out...literally. I still entertain the solution as being valid though I am not an engineer...I am very well aware though of the intricate workings of the physical realm of cause and effect as it pertains to living beings, Of course this object in my trained opinion does not meet the criteria necessary or accepted form of a true life form. The object is a manifestation of an individuals memories imprinted upon a routine in some computer housed in the caress complex. The object is merely a product of neural imprinting and logical binary code manipulated in a matrix to take on human form. The crux of the matter remains as for whatever reason this object remains in control of Aether and has a real problem with what would be referred to in medical circles as a God hood complex, perhaps there was a malfunction in the data process as the construct was being made, or perhaps memory and emotional engrams from the donor were recorded in greater detail than what should have been. The matter of how or what occurred is mute at this point. The very real concern is the manifestation must be stopped. I have been going over the data we have gotten from reports and sensor data...my original thought may still work, perhaps joined with another way of going after this...this abomination for lack of a better term. The idea of routing additional power to it may well still be in play here...just done a bit differently, subtlety instead of a en masse surge. The power beamed to it by way of the main deflector dish can be regulated...and frequencies of that power can be changed to better suit the needs. There are basic universal truths that cannot be ignored. Any form of manifestation will suffer if what it consumes for sustenance is either poisoned or changed to induce a negative result, anything from severe allergic reaction, uncomfortable physical reactions,to reoccurring bouts of lets say as in itching powder being introduced into ones environment. My initial idea to totally destroy this thing may not have to be done....well not all one fell swoop that is. Our real Mr.Kent has been going over data and has just looked back at Commander Marx and indicating she may have a possible solution as well. Perhaps a joint attack from multiple flanks may well prove victory at the end of this day. I realistically am aware of the clock and the count down we are all facing...let us hope a real solution is forthcoming as we have very little precious time remaining. Computer...End log..Beep. ;)
  2. Absolutely voted for serenity as well. You can vote once a day by the rules posted and will probably submit my write in later on...heh. ;)

  4. News Kepler Mission to see other Earths The mission will spend three-and-a-half years surveying more than 100,000 Sun-like stars in the Cygnus-Lyra region of our Milky Way Galaxy. Provided by JPL, Pasadena, California Kepler spacecraft The Kepler spacecraft is moved inside a protective container out of the Astrotech facility in Titusville, Florida, to begin its trek to Launch Complex 17 at the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. There, it will be hoisted atop the Delta II rocket that is to send it into space. NASA-Jack Pfaller [View Larger Image] February 20, 2009 NASA's Kepler spacecraft moved to its launch pad at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida, Thursday and will soon begin a journey to search for worlds that could potentially host life. Kepler is scheduled to blast into space aboard a Delta II rocket March 5 at 7:48 p.m. Pacific Time (10:48 p.m. Eastern Time). It is the first mission with the ability to find planets like Earth - rocky planets that orbit Sun-like stars in a warm zone where liquid water could be maintained on the surface. Liquid water is believed to be essential for the formation of life. "Kepler is a critical component in NASA's broader efforts to ultimately find and study planets where Earth-like conditions may be present," said Jon Morse, the Astrophysics Division director at NASA headquarters in Washington. "The planetary census Kepler takes will be very important for understanding the frequency of Earth-size planets in our galaxy and planning future missions that directly detect and characterize such worlds around nearby stars." The mission will spend three-and-a-half years surveying more than 100,000 Sun-like stars in the Cygnus-Lyra region of our Milky Way Galaxy. It is expected to find hundreds of planets the size of Earth and larger at various distances from their stars. If Earth-size planets are common in the habitable zone, Kepler could find dozens; if those planets are rare, Kepler might find none. In the end, the mission will be the first step toward answering a question posed by the ancient Greeks: Are there other worlds like ours or are we alone? "Finding that most stars have Earths implies that the conditions that support the development of life could be common throughout our galaxy," said William Borucki, Kepler's science principal investigator at NASA's Ames Research Center at Moffett Field, California. "Finding few or no Earths indicates that we might be alone." The Kepler telescope is specially designed to detect the periodic dimming of stars that planets cause as they pass by. Some star systems are oriented in such a way that their planets cross in front of their stars, as seen from our Earthly point of view. As the planets pass by, they cause their stars' light to slightly dim, or wink. The telescope can detect even the faintest of these winks, registering changes in brightness of only 20 parts per million. To achieve this resolution, Kepler will use the largest camera ever launched into space, a 95-megapixel array of charged couple devices, known as CCDs. "If Kepler were to look down at a small town on Earth at night from space, it would be able to detect the dimming of a porch light as somebody passed in front," said James Fanson, Kepler project manager at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California. By staring at one large patch of sky for the duration of its lifetime, Kepler will be able to watch planets periodically transit their stars over multiple cycles. This will allow astronomers to confirm the presence of planets. Earth-size planets in habitable zones would theoretically take about a year to complete one orbit, so Kepler will monitor those stars for at least three years to confirm the planets' presence. Ground-based telescopes and NASA's Hubble and Spitzer space telescopes will perform follow-up studies on the larger planets. "Kepler is a critical cornerstone in understanding what types of planets are formed around other stars," said exoplanet hunter Debra Fischer of San Francisco State University in California. "The discoveries that emerge will be used immediately to study the atmospheres of large, gas exoplanets with Spitzer. And the statistics that are compiled will help us chart a course toward one day imaging a pale blue dot like our planet orbiting another star in our galaxy." 6. Negotiations Duty log: Eagle,James,T.,Lt.Sg.,Tactical officer,U.S.S. Arcadia,NCC-1742-E The Marines have taken up tactical positions around the pleasure center. There has been a new development as Daena, and Torre have been able to leave the center, that leaves Archie being held captive. The data from the suns indicate the problem may become a mute point in several hours as it appears they will go nova. I am still attempting to contact the entity on Aether that has taken the form of Samantha Kent. Perhaps our Csci as well as Torre may be able to shed a bit of light on the confusion going on there. Mr.Pilot and Mr.Servo have apparently tried to negotiate with the holo image and has been unsuccessful to this point. The last communication with Captain Lo Ami has indicated they have met with some success in reducing the power feed to the center and hopes this may prove to be a bargaining chip in negotiations given we can establish communications with the self proclaimed maniac posing as Mr.Kent and obviously considers itself to be the absolute power that now rules Aether. Personal evaluation based on the data we have so far in my opinion this will only lead to possible additional injury or death to either residents there,or possibly our AT as this for lack of a better description Maniac has demonstrated wanton aggression and a distinct lack of care or compassion for any others on Aether. The thing has only demonstrated to this point a desire for power and to dominate without regard to others. I have been going over the data we have garnered on the ship so far and it still may be a possible alternative should any negotiations go bad or prove ineffective. The path of a peaceful resolution to this situation is of course preferred over that of a full assault which would undoubtedly end with more injuries or death. The path of negotiations towards a mutual understanding and agreement that would be beneficial to all parties concerned is the first line of pursuit, It is not however the only and last resort and that Maniac needs to be well aware of that as well. End log:...beep.. ;)

  8. Of Men And A Megalomaniac Tactical Log: Eagle,James,T.,Lt.Sg.,Tactical Officer, U.S.S. Arcadia NCC-1742-E Time is of grave importance as this situation on this mission has once again gone to hell in a hand cart. The marines have been dispatched to their crafts and standing by for possible assistance on Aether as it pertains to a hostage situation involving crew of the Arcadia, perhaps god knows how many others. The Captain and Executive officer along with our Ceng are in another location in what appears to be some kind of artificial enclosure...and certainly in potential danger. I have managed to establish comm badge triangulation and lock on both teams should the need arise for an emergency beam should the systems on the station totally fail. The reports coming in from science are not very promising at this particular point laced with concerns from our science officer on board. Conferring with Commander Marx and applying various scans and communications I concur with the comm's and data from the station...We appear to have in my estimate a clear and dangerous entity referred to as what appears to be a duplicate of science officer Kent. The origins of this being while unclear at the moment in no way diminish the real threat to the station crew as well as to those of Arcadia. The communications between the security forces on station and that being as well as the coded comm from the Csci confirm the suspicions of what we are dealing with and apparently the delusions of grandeur it is exhibiting. The observations and data from science align and confirm tactical scans of the binary stars here, The power demands from the centralized point on the station...in this case the being and surrounding area are placing a very lethal demand on at least one of the suns. Taking time to evaluate our immediate position in a more tactical view we do have the ways and means to rescue the team referred to as @ team A.,we have cleared all moorings and are standing by to follow the immediate recovery of @ A. Running the data as well as it pertains to team#B and providing the present parameters of engagement we are in present more than a few alternatives to gain control of this situation preferably peacefully...however we can resolve this situation in a clearly controlled application if need arises. The data does indicate one star is being drained at a higher rate than the other if the data from science is accurate, and in that aspect it does present a viable alternative. The solution would take some engineering and sciences participation to a large degree...however it is a very sound alternative. The combination of various implements at our finger tips and those of the surrounding space reveals practically a fool proof alternative as well. The actions relayed to us both by comm...and by sensor feed do indeed demonstrate the volatility of this being on the station and reinforces her/it as a true Megalomaniac indeed. this ships compliment have faced greater odds and a wide assortment of self proclaimed dictators, rulers, even self proclaimed Gods in our journeys among the stars. This new apparition or manifestation if you will simply takes out the option of cognitive and reasonable approach and negotiations as was demonstrated by the communication and reasoning attempt by Mr.Pilot. The possible conflict with the prime directive is not in this case even in question as this malevolent entity has taken upon itself to attack, kidnap, hold hostage and even terminate Federation members with little or no regard ergo exhibiting and literally making the first of many aggressions against the federation. The alternatives are simple from a tactical point of view...Immediately cease all aggressive or hostile actions and begin a peaceful resolution to this madness, Or continue the present path. The choice is mute actually as there will be and end to this situation. The choice clearly resides with the being there...however the alternate reality resides with men. ;)

  13. Fresh Fruit, Fresh Veggies, Fresh Threats Duty log; Eagle,James,T.Lt.Sg.,Tactical Officer U.S.S. Arcadia Computer begin log:Beep...:: Supplemental Command log,Lt.Eagle recording in temporary command. I have ordered dual security teams to board the station and investigate possible danger to our away teams (@)Alpha,and (#)Beta teams based upon data garnered by both our science officer Mr.Kent,as well as the coded reply from Chief Science officer Mr.Nouvelle at a impromptu query on overdue status reports. I have not queried as to why the teams have not been in regular contact as mandated in fleet regulations. The probe launched into one of the stars to gather data at my arrival back to Arcadia has as well revealed disturbing data...enough to initiate a necessary intervention on the part of this crew to safely return the Alpha team members to a relative point of safety instead of dangling in close proximity of a star in the event there is cascading failure of the systems here in use that manipulates energy plasma. The Alpha team containing the majority of the Command team I do deem as a priority for retrieval. The reply from our officer on Beta team as well confirms suspicions something is amiss and team members possibly in danger. I have been advised Mr. Servo has rejoined Arcadia and at a most auspicious time indeed...much welcomed . The sec teams are to coordinate and investigate. I have ordered emergency beam locators for all crew in the event the worst occurs and instantaneous beaming is required. The data gathered from the station while I and my children were on board does indicate a possible flaw and a real danger present in the event of systems failure. The central portion of the station is real matter, nuts and bolts if you will. The real concern at this junction is the outer portions that are imaged and reproduced additions...all containing other living breathing life forms,as well as a certain bubble hovering over a certain star...I am in hopes this situation can be rectified without conflict or loss of life. I sincerely hope whomever or whatever we are dealing with will cooperate and come to a peaceful resolution to this situation...I also have my duty, and will follow my duty...whatever end that duty leads to. This crew is once again called upon to respond above and beyond the normal mission that one does hope for. The ride onward to glorious strife once again pervades into the most mundane of missions. *Personal note* Computer upon completion of this mission please remind me to gather the crew at main mess to enjoy the fresh fruits and vegetables I have gathered off ship and cleared quarantine..that is if this crew survives once again. End log supplemental report...Computer end log,and encode,Command staff only...:Beep.. ;)

  22. Twins,Ice Cream,And Swans Personal log: Eagle, James,T.,Lt.,Tactical Officer, U.S.S. Arcadia The return to the Arcadia to retrieve the twins for an impromptu tour of our new destination to allow them to observe another culture and the wondrous achievements they have been enabled to build and survive in this part of the system was without incident. Moving along the corridors on the seat,The twins tucked in snugly..I watched as they observed the varied colors of the transparent walls and corridors as we sped along the station looking at different individuals going about their daily task. The conversation began soon enough with an ongoing deluge of questions ranging from how do they do what they do, To actual scientific curiosity concerning the power applications of Aesther Station and controlling the power fed by the plasma ejected by the dual stars and subsequent inherent pre requisites of massive hardware, computers, and software to control such power. I am pleased with the children, and love them very much as any father should. The thought has crossed my mind at times to get the children more involved with play time if you will instead of purely scientific pursuits. I made a mental note to discuss the twins recreational time with the nanny back on Arcadia when availed the opportunity. Apparently T'Linna needed little time in figuring out the way this system here worked as did Sotak...The sudden convergence of thoughts from them both had an unexpected result on the chair as we had been moving smoothly along. The chair shuddered...became erratic and started to dart to and fro as if totally confused. Looking at the twins I did interrupt their thoughts with a few of my own..Sotak looked up innocently as did T'Linna with those dark puppy dog eyes, Those same eyes that did not dissuade me from my next thoughts. Both almost on que sighed and simply stated yes father we will stop. Again focusing on our destination we began to once more move along smoothly unhindered. Sotak my son,T'Linna my daughter it is not good manners to play with others technology in a mental tug of war to get ahead of one another. You must understand the children irregardless of what some boast and ascribe to as the stoic unemotional state of Vulcan's, Obviously had forgotten to mention the children do in fact exhibit sibling rivalry at times as all other children do across the galaxy. The thought and memory of my beloved entered my mind at that moment...few really have had the actual personal pleasure of knowing personally the great depth of passion and emotions that race really does have, though repressed. The journey to the central gardens and park went smooth as silk again without incident. The side trip to the Ice Cream Vendor in the park was interesting to say the least as neither Sotak,Or T'Linna had ever experienced this delicacy. Watching the two as they experimented with the frozen desert and their reactions to the varied flavors the vendor had placed in the "Boat" as he referred to it along with a split in two Banana along with chocolate syrup and ground up nuts. The item he referred to he called an old fashioned Banana split. Speaking to the vendor all the while watching my two was interesting indeed. Our banter was most revealing as I had inquired as to the need for a vendor when from what I has observed a simple focused thought could produce the same results. T'Linna was the first to speak.."Father that would just not work...it would only appear to be the real thing". Curiously I looked at her and was about to apologize to the vendor when he laughed and proffered how smart my "kid" was indeed. The vendor went on to explain that food stuffs along with other things would not be practical as when the imaged product was done with the matter was merely returned to it's previous state...ergo no actual dietary requirements being met resulting in what one might imagine as starving to death surrounded by food. I found this bit of information very interesting and possibly valuable. T'Linna was looking up as I could swear she cracked a knowing smile as if to say told you so. Smiling at her I simply said I love you too... Now come along lets see the ducks and swans in the pond. Sotak looked as we walked towards the azure blue waters and the fowls that paddled around the perimeter moving gracefully, Quietly along. Father we have seen this type of water dwelling fowl in our studies,However it is pleasing to see them in their actual habitat close up ...even if they are replicated energy for our comfort and viewing. I was taken aback just a bit, How do you fathom they are not real? They are real in the physical sense and appearance...however as sister had stated before father...they are merely fanciful renderings. I must admit the next few hours were wonderful as I was finally being afforded the rare chance to spend some quality time with Sotak and T'Linna instead of the relative short times we have on the ship. The adventure and tour had the final effect a full day of exploration might be expected to have on their still small bodies. The fatigue of their new discoveries and experiences had began to take their toll. Making our way back to the chair which by the way automatically made accommodations and adjustments to accommodate the extra bodies. I focused once again for the docking port to Arcadia and the chair gently turned as if sensing the tired state of the twins and began the smooth return. The port loomed just ahead...The chair came to rest without ever so much as a shudder. Taking Sotak up in one arm,and shouldered. Taking T'Linna up in the other arm and shouldered the hatch slid open as ident was confirmed we re boarded Arcadia. The trip back to quarters was quiet, Both asleep on my shoulders as we entered our home aboard ship. I handed Sotak over to our nanny as I took and tucked in T'Linna..kissing her goodnight watching as she snuggled into her covers. Dropping by to kiss Sotak goodnight and looking at the nanny on my way back out. Take a bit more time for their recreation time please..they do need to be kids,I know they are Vulcan and are usually more intent on studies, I know as well they are part human as well...and today they had Ice Cream for the first time and saw a swan up close. The Nanny bless her soul looked on as I exited and headed for the docking ring. The look from the nanny appeared questioning and a bit puzzled, No matter she is excellent and I am just as sure when my little ones awake she will be the benefactor of their joint adventure...that should clear it up nicely. Speaking of benefit I should contact the Captain and Commander on my new discoveries as well. End Log..... ;)
