  1. If this is permissable Randy I'd like to use the simple custom title: STSF Simmer That's all ;) Precip
  2. Can't echo that any better Vile.. I pray in time our wounds heal...and we return to space..where I think we do belong. Precip
  3. One of the amazing things about STSF is quality of the CO's and XO's that run the boats. I have simmed elsewhere in different organizations and upon comparing my experiences so far with the COs of STSF to those I have had in the past I can only share compliments. Every CO in here has helped me from day one...I can't express my appreciation with that. When I first started in the Academies..I couldn't get the format right, the academy GMs..politely steered me the right way. After I graduated the academy when I experienced a bit of ...okay where am I...hello...I'm here guys...a few PMs to senior officers in my specific Department and XO got me rolling on Manticore. And I have had a blast since. Moose is right here..every player can help get an ensign on track. So my advice to anyone taking their first steps is to follow that axiom...Seek and you shall find, knock and the door will open...aka..ask and there will be help. Use that private message button..It helped me. Precip
  4. Personal Log Ltjg Mitar Precip Security Officer USS Manticore "Round 2" ::looks over a master systems display diagram in the security office:: Computer begin log... I am currently awaiting for LtCmdrRoget in the security office to debrief me on what is now occuring in the senior staff meeting the Commodore has called. After narrowly escaping with our lives from the Kurtz installation I am curious as to what was accomplished by Colonel Eason and Doc Suberance. In sickbay I did get a chance to see Faldorn, whom appeared to have recovered from his injuries sustained in the crash and ...by something/someone else on the surface. He apparently used some Thesian meditative techniques in order to survive his ordeal and recover. Regarding his ordeal...I thought it would be inappopriate to ask in sickbay what happened on the surface..until an official debrief. I recall on the Griffyn before our hard landing on the Manticore, Doctor Suberance appeared rather roughed up..What had happned down there? Did this Kurtz himself take liberties while Eason and Suberance were held prisoner on the surface? If so...I want a piece of this guy...even if he is SI or not...the Doctor has been a great friend for me on Manticore...and to see him like that...was infuriating. It is odd...that my guilt over alerting the complex below to the away team's presence has been replaced by the will to finish this rouge Kurtz off...and his base. I guess again I have Doc Suberance to thank for pointing out despite my err...everyone made it back. Now I can only think of payback... ::stands and looks at the ceiling holding the log PADD:: This isn't what they taught me at the academy...my line of thinking.. I am supposed to be like a Vulcan in this case..but I am not Seeing my crewmates returning onboard the Griffyn having been tortured is a difficult sight to repress..If I am unqualified to return to the surface and go up against these SI rogues in their own game...I'll be more than happy to be the officer at the Tactical Station firing Photon torpedoes on the man's own little resort he's built. Round 2 will be the end for this nefarious individual's plans whatever they may be... ::slams PADD on the Table infront just as the secuity office doors swishes open...:: Computer end personal log.. Mr McFly? How may I help you?
  5. Seems during my sim experiences, and in the lounge...after about 40 minutes my text screen begins to flash. This makes it extremely difficult to continue simming and I find myself having to disconnect my ISP, reconnect, login ...and finally I am back in. In the process I am out of a sim for about 2-3 minutes. I was wondering what causes the text screen the flash in the chat room. I do know I am not the only one who has this problem. I also was wondering if there is a remedy to my problem. It's a bit frustrating! Precip
  6. Was your image posted on StarTrek Australia Yvon? I saw that in the upper right of the ship image... Nice work... Precip.....(another person looking for a Nebula ship image as well...gotta support the Manticore!)
  7. Heh....that would be great to come up with some ship-based avatars. With regards to a cadet ship...wouldn't something based on the graveyard scene at Wolf-359 fit the theme? Precip
  8. LtJg Mitar Precip Security Officer USS Manticore Personal Log "Impact" ..Returning to the USS Maniticore via the Griffyn The shuttle rocked from a direct hit shortly after Commander Roget informed us the Griffyn's cloak had failed....I Futilly attempted to reroute some power to the cloak...even thought Mr. Garnoopy was no doubt trying to do so as well. It didn't work...the shuttle was hit again...this time direct aft...probably from a planetary defense phaser emitter obtained by Kurtz somehow. This hit took out our shields... At this point Commander Roget was furiously trying to keep the shuttle on course towards the Manticore...All I could do was try to keep up with Roget's instructions...and to pass on to the Manticore of the seriousness of the situation. We could make out the Manticore's aft section...the familiar "T" with the saucer behind it when another impact apparently hit us just as the Manticore initiated the tractor beam for what would of been a smooth recovery. Everything went to the Underworld after that impact...for Roget had to bring her in manually and we had no choice to make it a quick landing for one more hit would take us out for sure...given Kurtz's accurate planetary phaser emitter. I could hear Mr. Garnoopy frantically trying to get some systems back on line, as well as some Trill curses I have never heard before... The next few seconds were a blur....The Manticore appeared to fire on Kurtz's base...The Griffyn and all of us were suddenly on the deck of the Manticore....how on Bolias Roget pulled that off I dont know..but the landing was uncontrolled due to systems damage sending us straight for our sister shuttle the Wyvern!....The impact was horrible...and everything went blank... Waking up briefly i found myself on the deck of the shuttlebay..glancing at the wrecked shuttles...my eyes stinging from blood and debris....suddenly another explosion..from the Griffyn which sent me...I believe in the air momentarily...the last thing I saw was the a mangled Griffyn...probably lost...I tried to move..but I couldn't...and suddenly I couldn't help but drift into unconsciousness...
  9. Hey Trum don't worry about death and the academy..they are both linked together in sort of a harmony...they're meant to be together... I can't recall how many times I have been a chief of a department in an acedemy and have had my subordinates killed...For some reason I can't recall that speech Kirk gave Savek in the turbolift regarding the Kobayashi Maru...but it sums up the academys wonderfully..hehe As for this particular academy sim...it was particularly heinous....given crewmembers contaminating eachother and such with green yuckies...Hadn't seen that before from a GM...totally ruthless... Funny some cadets may of survived that one...survival is rare as mentioned earlier in this thread. I doubt Dacotah will spare anyone next time....::starts placing bets.....:: Precip
  10. ::applauds:: Oh man that was moving..where is a tissue? PS. Ill try to keep people interested on Sunday Academies...:o Precip
  11. FredM's comments make me think there is an STSF Politburo in place. Why when I look at this topic I am reminded of a Cartoon with Dalmation's in it. I wonder which Politburo member best fits the role as Curella. :o Precip
  12. Pictures? Hmmm.....best stay in Hiding ...My grill is so bland it would be a diservice to show up.... Precip
  13. Howdy Webmaster, Curious if you would provide a link to where one can download java tools. My computer always has had a hard time handling the chatroom even before the server's illness...a software download would certainly help! Precip
  14. Funny I will actually be in Las Vegas on that date just by coincidence! I ususally dine at Quark's on my usual visits to the Vegas area, but with a convention going on ....yikes! I love vistiting Star Trek: The Experience...just for the atmosphere (okay...I confess..it's the giant ships that lure me there..not the ride..I get dizzy on that thing) shopping, and always hoping I'll see some Star Trek Trading Cards for sale there, NOT!!! Curious....to ask..what is the admission or is there any website advertising the event..? Precip...
  15. I dont think he meant it that way FredM, he just wanted me to sign on to his idea me thinks.... But as for a ship full of security officers...hmmm..I can imagine in TOS...the whole ship full of redshirts...I wonder how long that vessel would even last....I wouldn't say it would be boring.....rather..quick myself. I'm wondering if the name of the vessel would be USS Future Morgue. As to a Prometheus Class Vessel being a platform for a sim..I think that would be very challenging. A) Creating an agreeable rulebook for the ship, B)Limiting the use of MVAM (it would be complicated to sim three friendly vessels..even when you have pre-programmed attack patterns which you would have to describe...C) somehow keeping a ship on shakedown out of combat. Precip
  16. What's this about security officers not having anything to do? ;) LtjgMitarPrecip Security Officer USS Manticore EnsMaxPrecip Security Officer USS Hood (ah...Goat you crack me up)
  17. Hey FredM...darn good rebuttal! And....hehe to the crew of the Hood...congradulations for somehow bribing the producers to getting the ship on the Fleet Map shown in the movie..::notes his pocketbook is lighter:: Precip
  18. Vanroy makes some observations here that are correct. And as a Star Trek fan I find these errors...kinda disappointing in a way...However, typically Star Trek films simplify things in a vain attempt for those who don't follow Star Trek to not feel "clueless". This mainly applies to technical issues(shields/transporters) Also movies are "constrained" by time to not explain things. (Note to Vanroy: A entire scene with Wesley was left on the cutting room floor Ref: star trek the magazine) Your point with Worf is another valid observation...how long would it of taken to explain his apparent return to Starfleet? The movie would of been quite longer explaining your points away to the audience.... Finer details were sacrificed in my opinion in order to build up he bad guy Shinzon(msp?)...which had to be done. Complex villians lead to better stories. Was this the best Star Trek film of all time? No...but one of the better ones. My few cents, Precip
  19. Congrats to the STSF team! Clearly you guys have something special going here, keep up the good work! Precip
  20. I am just as curious as to your reasons for the obvious "thumbs down" on Nemesis Vanroy :) I liked it....I sort of wondered if just "anyone" would understand some of it.(what Dominion war?) And as with most Star Trek Films...some technical things were overlooked to achieve various actions in the film. (The E running out of torpedoes in a battle like that?) Nonetheless..this movie in my opinion has been bashed by critics unfairly....and I plan on seeing it again. Precip
  21. Vanroy brings up a darn good point. Do I as a graduate...hog up space in academy sims? It seems by the replies...that this is not the case. I generally send a PM saying anywhere but sickbay (cuz..I feel...I'd sim lousy as a CMO..I just dont know Star Trek Medicine). Nonetheless based on Vanroy's observation, I'll stick to my sim-anywhere PM and won't beg for a Tactical position in the future. As for advanced courses...the idea is intriguing..and I have no idea how one would do it. Just a thought though.. An advanced sim...not based on sim arcs like the others..but a one night only story...that would be darn challenging to pull off! Talk about zero tolerance for deviating from the GMs! aye caramba! But I must defer to the obvious, more academys and GMs are needed on different days...and it appears the STSF is working towards that Goal. Precip
  22. I find the use of SGV (special guest villains) Fun.. These Guests...often nefarious GMs who run academies on other dates :) Make the cadets face a skilled simmer, and create a team enviornment in order to survive. (of course with Fred...Survival isn't an option :o Precip.....the simmer who usually ends up like a bugsmear on a ships viewscreen when all goes to heck...
  23. Grrr...I need to take a course in iB codes... Precip.. PS..voted for The Nebula Class...predecessor of the Akira Class
  24. [/move]Akira Class[move] I love this class of starship, I would of voted for..this torpedo loaded starship! Precip
  25. While surfing I noticed the Manticore website had undergone some changes. I was curious who made the fantastic bridge layout graphic. Perhaps I missed this one before on previous viewings...shame on me!..In anycase well done! Precip
