  1. That's a really interesting idea Fred ... I never thought of that. At first when I read your post the thought of not having another Trek movie for a couple of years really disappointed me. But now that I think about, I don't want a new one for awhile. Nemesis really upset me. It's the only movie that's ever made me cry! I'd rather have Trek put on hold for a little while and wait for them to come out with something that's really worthy of the name. I don't know if I could wait ten years though, Vatric. In the meantime, at least we have STSF!
  2. http://www.ex-astris-scientia.org/gallery/bridges1.htm http://www.ex-astris-scientia.org/gallery/interiors1.htm Have you guys seen these? I just discovered them and I think they're pretty cool. It's basically the layouts of all the Star Trek bridges (not just Federation ships) and then some of the other rooms as well. I don't know if anyone else gets excited by things like this. Now I have a better idea of what Engineering on a Sovereign vessel is like!
  3. Okay, so the Academies take place in the chat rooms. I think it's always in the subroom "Holodeck" actually. You can follow the "Chat Room" link at the top of all the pages (look up! it's there!) or you can go directly to http://www.stsf.net/chatroom.php which is what I do. Just make sure you go when there is an Academy scheduled (http://www.stsf.net/schedule.php). Sign in as Cdt_Locutus235 or whatever you would like to sign in as. Just make sure you put in the Cdt part. And make sure you join the proper subroom, which like I said before, is usually the Holodeck. Moose is awesome, and this post helped me a lot before I started my first Academy. http://www.stsf.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=1850 My advanced sim is on tonight (the Arcadia) so feel free to stop by and watch. Just make sure not to interrupt any of the advanced sims while they are in progress. Hope to see you around! Hope I haven't confused you even more ...
  4. BluRox- I have a paladin on Blackhand, and a mage on Shadow Council, an RP server. Unfortunately it's not my game and I started school again so I won't be playing for awhile. And, sadly, I'm Alliance. ::hangs head in shame:: I made an undead Rogue that looks awesome but I haven't gotten to play her. My boyfriend's thinking about building me a computer, so maybe .... Anyway it's a good thing I have to stop because I was getting obsessed. I went on a rampage after the Defias and their linen. I needed to be cut off. This way I have time for STSF! Vatric- I've seen info on the Star Trek one coming out. I was totally new to all of this like a month ago, so I wasn't sure if it was analagous to WoW. If it is, then I'm in for some serious trouble.
  5. I know this is a really old thread but I couldn't resist. My boyfriend has WoW and while I'm usually content to watch him play video games, I had to try this one. It's so addicting! I made a human mage and made it up to level 12 before I realized it was his game and I was taking over. I've never played a game like that before, so I definitely think it's good for a beginner. You just have to read up on some of the stuff first and not try to advance too fast. I want to get it, but I don't think my computer could handle it! And how cute is it that you can have a Panda as a pet with the collector's edition?
  6. hey Tinner ^_^ I'm sure we'll run into each other more soon. In the meantime ... lay off the synthehol!
  7. Thanks for pointing those out, Fred. I especially like the sickbay on Reaent and the control tower of Aegis. They really went all out! It's nice having a more complete picture of things, at any rate.
  8. I think I agree with a lot of what Tachyon said. I had been looking for something to up the Star Trek in my life. Honestly, though, STSF is enough for me right now so I don't know if I'd be as quick to jump on the interactive book thing. I enjoy writing, so I think I'd have more fun creating them than reading them. A big thing is also how closely the books fit the series. If it was free ... that's another story.
  9. Kestra studied the picture she held in her hands. It had been taken several years ago, when her sister Kavita graduated from Starfleet Academy. At the time, Kestra had just recently gained entrance to the Academy. The two sisters were facing the camera with identical smiles, proud of each other. It was hard for Kestra to believe that her own graduation was already behind her. She had been on Risa for several days, waiting to report to the USS Arcadia. Tucking the picture into her traveling case, she glanced around the room one last time and contacted the ship for transport. Even as a child, Kestra had been fascinated by transporters rather than fearing them. Now for the first time she found herself nervous as she shimmered onto the Arcadia. She nodded quickly to the transporter chief and checked into OPS to find out which quarters she was assigned to. “Deck 11, Room 124,” Lt. Meriva responded. Kestra dropped her bags off and saw that she had been assigned to the Alpha shift. She left immediately to report for duty. After what seemed like an eternity, the turbolift dropped her off in Main Engineering. Kestra had been mentally reviewing the picture she had seen of the Engineering Chief, Lt. Cdr. Trichon Light. She knew he would be on duty, and hoped to recognize him. There were always plenty of horror stories floating around the Academy concerning superior officers. Kestra tried her best to ignore them as she spotted Trichon near the core. “Ensign Kestra Miral, reporting for duty as ordered, sir,” she said, offering him the padd bearing her orders. He seemed to recognize the name and complimented her on her Academy record. Blushing inwardly, Kestra tried to brush past the compliment and expressed her desire to get to work. She shouldn’t have been so eager. Reviewing a routine diagnostic quickly turned into preventing a virus from taking over the ship’s computer. The rest of her shift rapidly escalated into even more madness. She aided in a computer core shutdown, tried to keep intruders from taking over Main Engineering, and worked on restoring backup programs to undo the damage caused by the virus. She was running a diagnostic and contemplating what to do after her shift when reality hit her. The Arcadia wasn’t just some place where she was stationed temporarily. This ship was supposed to become her home. But it wasn’t, yet. Her family had spread in different directions several years ago. At Starfleet Academy, it hadn’t been hard to meet people and get situated. There were plenty of cadets as new as Kestra, and she always had a roommate to keep her company. The Arcadia was different. There would be no one waiting in her quarters here. Just a couple of bags waiting to be unpacked. Kestra suddenly felt very alone, and allowed herself a moment of self-pity. Then she recovered. She knew it was her hard work and dedication that had gotten her through the Academy in the first place. There was plenty of time to meet people later. Right now, she needed to catch up on learning the ships systems. Her console beeped, indicating her diagnostic had finished. Kestra sighed quietly to herself. The Arcadia was a large ship, and she definitely had her work cut out for her.
  10. Anakin Skywalker 61% and so on ... I didn't even like Padme in the Sith. She seemed kinda worthless, in my opinion. I was hoping for R2D2 or something like that! ::sigh:: maybe if there were more major characters that were female ...
  11. My brother told me about this ... Apparently there's a book that's a Starfleet Surivival Guide. I'm a nerd about all sorts of Trek books, and I was wondering if anyone had looked at it themselves. Let me know if you've heard anything about it! http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detai...=glance&s=books
  12. I have a copy of the Rules of Acquisition also! I got it the first time we went to the Experience in Vegas. I've seen the cookbook, but only online. I think it's on Amazon (I'm addicted to Amazon.com). I was eyeing it because we did this random Star Trek murder mystery--which was totally ridiculous and I wanted to make a dinner that at least bore some resemblance to the cuisine of the Trek universe. I didn't end up getting it because the recipes didn't seem very interesting. You can look at a page or two here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/reader/0671000225...001#reader-page I did end up getting the Survival Guide. I couldn't resist. It's good, in a really funny sort of way. I'd tell you it's not practical but that should be fairly obvious. There's a trick or two I could use as an engineer in the sims though. I'm also having fun trying to figure out which episode each section is referring to. Some are more obvious than others.
  13. I was just curious about what everyone else does. My family knows about (and my siblings share) the obsession. My close friends know, but I don't really tell a lot of people because I am easily irritated by any sort of comments or judgments they make about Star Trek. Especially when they say "Really? You don't look like the type to be into Star Trek." It's so ridiculous. Oh, and if you choose "Combination" make sure you tell us what combination it is. Thanks!
  14. I've only read a couple of other Voyager books myself. I generally stick to TNG. I picked up "Homecoming" just before going on a trip, and was somewhat pleasantly surprised. It's actually continued in a book called "Farther Shore" I believe, so you have to get those two together. Spirit Walk One and Two come after Farther Shore. I don't think it's absolutely necessary to read the Homecoming and Farther Shore first, but I think it made it much more enjoyable. I liked both the Spirit Walk books for the most part, but it kinda fell apart for me at the end. So to clarify, this is technically the order: 1. Homecoming 2. Farther Shore 3. Spirit Walk (Part I) 4. Spirit Walk (Part II) Let me know if you read any of them!
  15. TJ- I think I like the shorter hairstyle more. Maybe I'm just biased. You asked for the opinions, so I hope that helps!
  16. That's so hard. Maybe Dark Mirror? I have to admit, I prefer Trek books that are less serious and slightly ridiculous. I'm thinking of Balance of Power (the auction) and Q-in-Law. They would be horrible for canon, however. I think Imzadi might be a good choice as well. It seemed to fit in with everything pretty well, and was surprisingly tolerable for someone who doesn't really like Riker or Deanna that much. Okay, so I honestly have no idea what I would pick. I'm not sure why I'm even posting here. ;)
  17. I read the entire series. I got sucked in, although I can't say I loved all the books. I think it just wasn't really my style--none of the books were really bad though. And they were definitely interesting. I'd love to know what you think if you read any of the others. Have you read "Homecoming" by Christie Golden? It's a Voyager book I just read. I was disturbed to find out that Tom and B'Elanna's child was named Miral, because that's my character's last name.
  18. Isn't it crazy? I'm glad you enjoyed yourself. I wasn't prepared for the speed the first time I did it. You'll get used to it faster than you think. Well, welcome to STSF! Hopefully I'll see you around the academies!
  19. Welcome to STSF! You're going to love it here. See you around!
  20. Hi! I'm glad you enjoyed your first Academy. Isn't it crazy? Welcome to STSF--I'll see you around!
  21. hi

Hey, welcome to STSF! Hope to see you around the academies! ;)
  22. I wasn't sure if I should post this in the Academy forum or here, but seeing as how I haven't even tried the Academy yet ... I've never done any sort of RPG before and I felt that even the "help" section of the site didn't fully prepare me. Are there any particular posts I can search for that may help more? I'm pretty well versed in Star Trek, I just don't understand the whole online role-playing thing but I really want to be involved. I'd appreciate any tips. Sorry if this is too vague!
  23. Tom and Jerry. I have great memories of renting them and watching them at my grandfather's place in India. Enterprise D or Enterprise E?
  24. Hi! I've been here less than two weeks myself. Everyone is great though, and the sims are addicting. See you around the academies (or maybe even RedStar ;))!
  25. Margarine ... it's better for you and I personally think it tastes better. Hamlet or A Midsummer Night's Dream?
